Deleting future occurrences in iCal

How do I delete all future occurrences of an event in iCal?

Just delete the first occurrence of it, iCal should then ask if you want to delete all future events (assuming it is a repeating event that is).
- Edit -
By first occurrence I mean the first one you want deleted.

  • How do you delete all occurrences of a recurring event in iCal without deleting them one by one?

These events have no stopping point, and go on into eternity. How do I get them out of iCal without having to delete each one separately? I want to sync with my new iPhone, but don't want these events in my iPhone calendar. They are in my old iPhone when I synced it a couple of years ago. In the iPhone, you have no way to delete or edit these events.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    pedfogog,
... or whoever may find this post in need of assistance as I was.
I just had this same problem and successfully deleted ALL event (past and future)instances by :
    1. Click on any instance of the event in the calendar
    2. Select "Delete" from the iCal toolbar "Edit" menu.
    3. The iCal propmt asked me to choose to delete all or just the one instance.
    4. Naturally, select to "Delete all occurrences"
    I am running OS 10.6.8   iCal 4.0.4

  • Why I can't delete an item in iCal on iPad 2?

Why I can't delete an item in iCal on iPad 2? The user manual says: click on the item, choose 'Edit' or something like that and then 'Delete'.
But clicking on the item only shows the details and not any window for Editing the item.
I wanted to delete an item in a calendar that is synchronized via Google.
    Thanks for help!

If you are In the "Day"view in the calendar app, tap on the event  and a window opens up with a red "Delete Event" button at the bottom of the window. Tap that button and then another "Delete Event" button pops up. Tap that to delete.
In the week view, tap the event and then a window pops up with "Edit" in it - it is in the upper right corner of that window - tap edit, and then repeat the process described above.
I do not use the Google calendar and maybe the way you have that set up will not allow you to do this directly on the Calendar app on the iPad.

  • How to delete all events from iCal?

Is it possible to select and delete all events from iCal? Or is it simpler to delete the calendar itself? Thanks!

    Sorted now!
To clarify for people like me: type "." in the search bar
Then click on the first item in the results pane
Go to the other end of the list, hold down shift, and click the LAST item
They should all be highlighted now
    Then use Edit/Delete
NB it may take a couple of mins (or ten!) for the items to disappear from your view, particularly if syncing with MobileMe.

  • Deleting duplicate entries in iCal?

How do I delete duplicate entries in iCal (identical entries on the same date)?

    Todd,
I suspected a more serious problem because the answer was too easy.
Thousands of duplicate entries...Is this what happened?
According to, Mac OS X 10.4: Stay away from the SyncServices folder: As if it were a swarm of bees, you should stay away from the SyncServices folder in Mac OS X 10.4. Removing or modifying anything in it—or in subfolders within it—may cause unexpected issues. (This folder is located in your Application Support folder, in your Library folder, in your Home folder.)
Deleting or modifying things in the SyncServices folder may cause unexpected results such as:
    • Duplicate contacts in Address Book or appointments in iCal.
    • Data loss in Address Book or iCal.
Important: Any lost or duplicate data could propagate to other devices and computers via iSync and .Mac sync. This means data could be lost on other computers. If that is your problem, I suspect that without a backup, duplicate entry deletion will at best be tedious, and at worst fraught with frustration. You may be better off starting from scratch.

  • ISync deleted a calendar from iCal

I'm very new to the Mac world. My PC died at Thanksgiving and I'm still getting used to my new iMac. I am using iSync to sync between my new iMac and my very old Handspring Visor Prism. Things are going remarkably well except now that I have moved all my (11 years worth) calendar appts/events to the iMac, I'd like to stop storing and syncing them to the Visor, since I'm worried that it will fail if it gets too full.
My bright idea was to create a separate calendar with all events from 97-08 and then use the "home" calendar from 2009 going forward. So on my next sync, I only checked "Home" to sync so that there would be less on my Visor. Doing this, iSync successfully synchronized the Home calendar (w/my newer events), but deleted my "old" calendar from iCal. I don't understand why that happened. I thought unselecting a calendar in iSync would do the same thing as the "Do Nothing" option in HotSync (literally, don't sync, but also, don't delete!).
Is there any way to keep some events in an iCal calendar but not on your handheld device?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

The deletion of your unchecked iCal calendar would or should have only occurred if you first deleted the the matching calendar on your Palm device prior to the next synchronization event, and did not opt to reset the framework as described below. The appropriate 'reaction' of the Sync Services framework on your machine is to delete matching calendar event and task information in your truth database, and distribution those deletion changes to all other synchronized applications, devices and servers.
If you had simply unchecked the calendar in your drop-down iSync device configuration pane then reset the framework using the option in the iSync Preferences… dialog to do so and subsequently overwritten the contents of your Palm device—as opposed to merging data with it—your calendar would have remained in iCal but matching data would have been removed from the Palm device.
Whenever you seek to make a substantial change such as you did, you should back up your iCal and Address Book records using the built-in options in each application to do so, BEFORE you next execute a synchronization event. In that way, it's easy to 'recover' data when an unexpected result occurs.

  • How can i delete an event on ical without notifying

    Hello
how can i delete an event on ical without notifying. All I want to do is delete the event and not notify anyone.
    Thanks

I was just experiencing this problem on Mountain Lion. The calendar I wanted to delete was on iCloud. So, I logged into iCloud from a web browser, and selected Calendar. On the current incarnation of iCloud Calendar the calendars are listed on the left. I selected the "Edit" link at the top of that list and chose delete. It indicated that the items would be deleted, but there was nothing about notifications. Then, when I went back to iCal on my Mac, I selected the calendar to be deleted, right clicked, and slected refresh...
    ... gone.
It probably would have disappeared on it's own eventually. I'd be curious to see if theis works for others, so please confirm.
    Good luck.

  • Delete an entry in ICAL

When I try to delete an entry in ICAL I get this message
"Only the calendar administrator and any delegates with permission can make changesto read-only calendars. To make changes to the calendar, contact the calendar administrator".
    I am the account admin…T
ried Pref-Delegation-Manage Account Access still no luck

It was once a recurring event which I deleted (I thoughtj). Actually there are two events by the same name on the same day.  One has a dark blue dot to the left of it; the other has a light blue dot to the left of it.

  • Anyone know why I cant delete events on my ical?

Anyone know what I cant delete events on my ical?

It is obviously awhile back since the question was posted, but I ran into the same problem just yesterday. For purpose of this discussion, I will assume the problem is that of deleting calendars from an iOS device. You should be able to delete your own created event by tapping on the event, then scroll all the way to the bottom of the edit dialog window and tap "Delete Event". To delete your own created calendar, tap on "Calendars" tab at top left of opened iCal app (on iPad). Then tap on "Edit" tab in the dialog window that comes up. Then tap on calendar you wish to delete. Go to bottom of "Edit Calendar" dialog window and tap on "Delete Calendar".
The above directions will likely NOT work to delete a "subscribed" calendar. I tried, and the calendar kept coming back like a bad habit. It appears that subscribed calendars need to be deleted via iOS settings. Tap on iOS "Settings" icon, then tap on settings for "Mail, Contacts, Calendars". Under the heading "Accounts", find, and tap on "Subscribed Calendars". Then tap on the calendar you wish to delete. Scroll to the bottom of that calendar's dialog window, and tap "Delete Account". This worked for me.

  • HT4901 I accidently deleted a calendar in ical on my iphone5.  How do I retrieve the calendar and all its past/present/future events?

I am afraid to open ical on my iphone because I'm now in the vicinity of my Mac and I don't want all the events to delete from it.  Can anyone help me to retrieve the unintentional deleted calendar on my iphone?

About your only option would be to try to recover it from your iCloud backup.  There's a user tip here on how to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841.  Just substitute calendar for contacts and the process would be the same.  The key for this being successful is to disconnect your router from the internet (step 4), allowing you to turn off calendar syncing with iCloud and keep the calendar on your iPhone before it is overwritten by the iCloud calendar.
If you have any other calendars on your Mac be sure to back them up before trying this using File>Export>Export.

  • Deleted Mail Application and iCal Application

So I was trying to clean up my workspace and thought that the files I was deleting were merely icons. Turns out they were the real thing. So...How do I get them back? I tried to reinstall the disks that came with my computer, but they didn't come back (just turned Mail and iCal into "?"s on my Dock. I just got my computer a few months ago and this would be really annoying to continue. What do I do?
    JP

    You have two options.
    1) You can start up your Mac from the included restore disks and do an "archive and install." This will reinstall the operating system and restore your settings, documents and applications.
    2) You can use an application called Pacifist to extract the iCal and Mail applications from the install DVDs. This takes a bit of technical knowledge, but you can read about the process here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/Pacifist_Documentation/English/index.html
For future reference, don't delete things in the Applications folder unless you want to uninstall the application. As I'm sure you've learned!
