Deleting/hiding apps

Can someone explain to me the difference between hiding and deleting apps?  If you delete an app at the "shaking x" is it gone forever?  I read somewhere that apps cannot be deleted.  Is that true?  What is the purpose of hiding?  I am trying to clean out my 3 year old iPad.  Also, is there a way to tell how much space a magazine app (like Time) is using.  I think the amount listed does not include all the issues.  Thanks!

You cannot hide apps. You can delete them using the "shaking x" method. This removes the App from your iPad.
The only way it may come back is if you redownload it, or sync with a computer running itunes where the App still exists.
Hiding can only be done on the Purchased App List from iTunes.  Hiding does not delete an App it merely hides it from the Purchased list but will still exist and be visible on your iPad unless you delete it.
The Purchase list is just that, a list of all your historical purchases, so in the event you delete one you canredownload it without having to pay for it again.  It does not take up space on your iPad.
As far as usage goes:  Under Settings->General->Usage->Storage, Tap on "Show All Apps", and look for the Magazine in question. Tap on it to bring up the Detailed view. It should tell you how much the actual App uses, and how much its data and documents are taking up. This is usually what the Issues are included in.

  • Deleting / Hiding Unwanted Apps in iOS6

    I recently updated to iOS6.
Now, when I goto the App Store, under the Purchased tab I now see EVERY app that I ever downloaded. A lot of these apps were trial and/or free apps. Some of these apps are apps that I purchased and did not like. All of these apps are apps that I will NEVER use.
On my desktop Mac, I have the option of hiding unwanted apps. On both my iPad and iPhone, I can not now that I have updated to iOS6. This is a VERY irritaitng issue as I now have to wade thru 100s of apps just to get to the ones that I am actually looking for. This is compounded due to the much smaller screen than my desktop Mac.
I guess that I dont understand how Apple with their usually very clean interface would want to make something horrifically cluttered.
How do I go about either permanently deleting unwanted apps or at least hiding them?

I guess I don't understand why Apple would remove this feature and make the custombilty of this interface worse. Apple really needs to correct this issue.

  • How to delete the apps in the purchased tab in appstore which i no longer have on my ipad. They still show in the purchased tab.

How to delete the apps in the purchased tab in appstore which i no longer have on my ipad. They still show in the purchased tab.

It's not currently possible to permanently delete any items from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them so that they don't appear in the Purchased tab : hiding and unhiding. If your iPad is on iOS 6 then you will need to do it via your computer's iTunes.

  • HT201322 On iPad how can I delete an app from iTunes account

Of the years I have downloaded numerous apps on my iPad and iPhone.  Now I want to remove them from my devise and iTunes. How can I do that on my iPad?

You can't currently permanently delete any item from your purchase history, you can delete an app from your iPad by pressing and holding an app, and you can select and delete them from the Apps part of your computer's iTunes so that they can't be synced back. Apart from that you can hide them as described on the page that you posted from so that they don't show in the Purchased tab for re-downloading (hiding doesn't currently work directly on devices that are on iOS 6, though it should work via a computer's iTunes)

I am trying to reload but I'm not getting the purchased one.
    Please help.
How can I reload the one purchased in January?

Does it not show in the Purchased tab in the App Store app ? If not then is it hidden : hiding and unhiding (hiding and unhiding doesn't work on iOS 6 devices, but you should be able to see what is hidden and potentially re-download them from that list).

  • How do I delete a app from app purchased?

I want to delete from App Store purchased history I can't how do I do it?

You can't do it. It's not possible to remove an app from the purchased history. That history of all of the sales transactions that you have made with Apple and iTunes. you cannot just remove a sales transaction from anything - anywhere.
You can hide the purchases if you feel the need to do that.

  • TS1424 how do i permanently delete an app from my ipad in the purchased apps section that has already been deleted?

I am trying to delete an app I no longer want or need completely from my purchased apps history. I deleted it from my main page but I dont want it to show up any more period. Any suggestions??

You cannot delete it form your purchase history, as it is  a history of all of your purchases.  That is the point of your purchase history.
    You can hide it.

  • How can i completely delete an app from my "app purchased" account

my son purchased an app which we want to completely delete from "apps purchased" file,
can delete it fr the home screen but, its still "on" the apps purchased (but not on this device option)
    any ideas please

You can't.  The Purchased List is not user modifiable since its what Apple uses to know what Apps you can re-download without having to pay for them again.
You can however Hide the App so it does not appear on the List.

  • Ipad mini cannot delete unwanted app from the purchase list

Ipad mini cannot delete unwanted app from the puchase list . too many app there

You can't permanently delete any items from your purchase history, but you should be able to hide them via your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 - if your iPad is on iOS 7, then after hiding them on your computer you may need to log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in for them to be hidden in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on it (the last time I hid an app I needed to do that).

  • TS1702 Why cant i permanently delete an app from my iPad? I hate iTunes and do not use it unless forced to!!

I bought an app today that doesnt function as advertised. My iPad does not sync to a computer. I do not use iTunes unless forced to. Is there a way to delete an app from my iPad directly? Also, why can't I delete permanently something from iTunes??

To delete an app directly on your iPad, press and hold any of the apps and after a couple of seconds or so they should start to shake. Then press the 'x' in the left corner to delete the ones that you don't want, and when you've finished deleting press the home button so as to stop the shaking. You can't delete any of the Apple built-in apps e.g. Music, App Store, Game Centre etc. If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
As to why you can't currently permanently delete something from your account then it's because Apple don't yet allow us to (possibly because people would then accidentally delete things and they wouldn't then be able to re-download them for free) - you can hide previous purchases from your purchase history to make them less visible (and it's only fairly recently that we've been able to do that) : hiding and unhiding.

  • If I delete an app can I get it back?

If I delete an app can I redownload it again?

    Yes...
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
If you inadvertently hid the purchase, follow the instructions here > Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases
    Then try re downloading.
