Deleting images in LR5

I have downloaded LR5 Upgrade onto my PC (Windows 7). The LR5 new features work. So far the program is working as expected, except that when an image is deleted using LR5, the image disappears from LR5 and appears in the recycle bin as it should, but it does not disappear from my Canon DPP program.  LR3 is still on the computer and when an image was deleted using LR3, it always disappeared from both LR3 and Canon DPP.  Why won't a deletion with LR5 take the image out of Canon DPP ?
Thanks for any help.
John Chaille

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my puzzle. My only previous experience with LR has been with LR3. This morning I opened up LR3 and repeated the process of deleting an image (RAW this time) from LR3 by selecting and clicking the Delete From Disk button and found again that the image disappeared from LR3 and appeared in the recycle bin, and as always before with deletions made in LR3 with the Delete From Disk button, when I opened up the Canon DPP program, the image was gone from its folder.
So when I downloaded the Upgrade to LR5, I naturally expected that a deletion  in LR5 would remove the image from the disk in the same way that LR3 did and still does (ie. that the image could not be found again and opened up in another program like Canon DPP). So I am still puzzled as to why a deletion in LR5 doesn’t remove it from the computer hard drive and LR3 does.
Thanks in advance for any other thoughts you may have on this puzzle.

  • Help--how to find a deleted image

    Somewhere along the line I deleted a very precious master taken in August of 2007. When I look in my backup vault (on a Quadra external HD), I see a folder called "d2 Quadra deleted images." Inside are countless folders (and folders within folders within folders) often leading to a single image. I can open the image at the end with Preview but it would take me months to examine every image I've deleted looking for this one. Is there a shortcut? thanks, Mike

    welcome to the forum ...
    have you emptied your trash since you deleted it ??? if not, it could be right there ...
    else, use spotlight and search the deleted images folder for some specific criteria that image is known to have ... restrict the date to Aug of 2007 and you be able to narrow, then you can display in icon view and see the thumbnails ...

    here error coming "DEL IS NOT IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT"
    I have to change anything .Will It work alright?
    pls help me
    Sms

    Hi Fresherss,
    Your del is Local Variable, it can't be accessed out of the if statement. you need to declare it as global variable like below. And if you want to collect the string, you could use the List to collect, not a string.  the string will be split to chars
    one by one.
    List<string> del=new List<string>();
    for (int j = 1; j <= b; j++)
    if (arrays[j].ToString() != arr[j].ToString())
    del.Add(arrays[j].ToString());
    else
    foreach (var value in del)
    string filePath = "G:\\Projects\\Images\\" + value;
    File.Delete(filePath);
    If you have any other concern regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • Cannot delete images from LR 5

    First, my setup:
    LR 5.3
    New 2013 iMac with 3T fusion drive
    OS X Mavericks
    I migrated all of my apps, files, etc from a 2007 iMac, following Apple's procedure. To take advantage of the speed of the fusion drive, I moved my image files from a La Cie external drive to the iMac's fusion drive. (Yes, I am backed up, triply backed up with both external backup drives and cloud backup.) There were a few hiccups, but I straightened them out and now can access every one of my images, process, etc.
    But...since the migration and importation to the iMac internal fusion drive, I cannot delete images. When I'm sorting, I use the X key to mark images for deletion. Then, when I use the standard cmd-delete key combination, I get the standard window offering me the option of just removing the image from the catalog or deleting it from the disk. When I select the latter (since I don't want rejected images clogging my hard drive), a new window appears: The file named "___" could not be moved to the trash folder."
    The problem occurs only since the migration and moving of the images to the new drive.
    I have tried numerous fixes suggest in various forums—create a new folder, then delete it to create a channel for LR; check permissions; repair permissions; run various commands through terminal. It's maddening because I sometimes reject a few hundred images at a time, and there's simply no reason to retain them on my drive. Any help will be much appreciated and rewarded with a dram of virtual single-malt scotch.

    You're right, Suzanne, I had...or so I thought. I had checked at too high a level in the folder hierarchy. When I drilled down, I found the last two levels of folders didn't even have me listed as an owner. Odd. What I found, to my delight, was that I could change permissions on the master image folder, then instruct that those changes be applied to all folders within the master folder. Solved the whole problem.
    So Suzanne, Geoff, even though neither of you directly provided the solution, your answers got me to check a couple of things that turned up the problem and the solution. So thanks!

  • How do I delete images in Finder's "all my Files" when I have the same pictures in a file in Documents? It seems like a lot of duplication. If I delete the individual image it disappears in the folder. Thank You.

    How do I delete images in Finder's "all my files" without deleting the images in a separate folder I have in Documents? It seems to be so much duplication. Just set up our new Mac and am not understanding how the files work. Thank you.

    All My files is a "search folder"
    it isn't real storage location. All files within your home folder are found by the criteria set for the search folder and displayed to you In one place.
    If the folder doesn't meet your needs, remove it from the sidebar.

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    * You can see the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
    * You can see all exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
    * You can check the Tools > Page Info > Media tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)
    You can use these steps to check if images are blocked:
    * Open the web page that has the images missing in a browser tab.
    * Click the website favicon ([[Site Identity Button]]) on the left end of the location bar.
    * Click the "More Information" button to open the "Page Info" window with the Security tab selected (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    * Go to the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Tools > Page Info" window.
    * Select the first image link and scroll down through the list with the Down arrow key.
    * If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • After installing windows 8.1 all images in LR5 show up as blank grey, regardless of catalog.

    As title says, after I installed Windows 8.1 all the images in LR5.4 show up as a blank grey color. Doesn't matter which catalog, or module. This includes on import, etc.

    Broken monitor profile, most like.
    Try reprofiling your monitor, or - as a test - setting it to sRGB and restarting your machine/Lightroom.

  • PNG images revive deleted images in the form of a thumbnail, potential risk

    Saving a PNG image will revive deleted photos. To replicate this, save a PNG image, such as the ones on XKCD's "What If?", and deleted images get revived in the form of a thumbnail overlapping the image.
    This has been here since IOS 5, according to http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/11/14/bug-resurrects-deleted-image-thumbnail s-in-ios-7-photos-app-dates-back-to-ios-5
    Knowledge of this could be abused. If I get free acess to someone else's Ipad, I can just spam saving PNG images over and over to see their sensitive images saved as a thumbnail overlapping the PNG image's thumbnail.
    How do I delete the thumbnails? It seems that when you delete a photo, it saves the thumbnail. This is supported by the PNG images reviving deleted photos in the form of thumbnails.

  • When opening Bridge I get this message: Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in the cache preferences to correct the situation. I have tried this and still get this message. when I delete image

    When opening Bridge I get this message: Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cash. Please try purging the central cache in the cache preferences to correct this problem. I did this and still get this same message.Also now when deleting images they don't delete till I close and reopen Bridge. What can i do to fix this problem?

    Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
    Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
    Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
    Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
    In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
    Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
    Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.
    Reset Standard Workspaces
    Returns Adobe predefined workspaces to their factory default configurations.
    Click OK, or click Cancel to open Adobe Bridge without resetting preferences.

  • Deleting images from hard drive

    My hard drive warned me its capacity if almost full, so I deleted bunches of photos, but it made little difference in the amount of available space. Does this mean all my deleted images are still deep in there somewhere taking up space? If so, how do I get rid of them? I take piles of photos counting on beng able to get rid of them. Thanks.

    Drag the photos from the Library to the iPhoto trash, then empty the iPhoto trash
    Hitting delete in an album removes the pic from the Album, not the library.

  • How to delete images or photos from Photostream

    Is it possible to delete images or photos in Photostream? If yes, how to proceed?

    How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream in iCloud?
    Individual photos cannot be deleted from your Photo Stream. You can, however, delete all the photos in your Photo Stream by clicking the Reset Photo Stream button in your account at icloud.com. The Reset Photo Stream button will instantly delete all Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud, but it will not remove any Photo Stream photos that have already been pushed to your devices.
    How do I delete photos from my Photo Stream on my devices?
    After deleting the photos from your Photo Stream in iCloud, you can remove the Photo Stream photos from your devices as follows:
    On your iOS devices, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream and turn Photo Stream off. This will delete all the photos from your Photo Stream album. If there are any photos you want to keep on your device, make sure to add them to an album or save them to your Camera Roll first.

  • When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?

    When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?
    This is happening even with photos that were taken on another camera, not just mine.  My daughter told me that the laptop recently fell.  The yellow streak is not anywhere else on the laptop, just on the photos in LR.

    I have had this problem on my desktop.  I have been attempting to reproduce it where it can be debugged. Here are some observations/facts in my environment--no conclusions:
    1. I do not import from camera or memory stick directly into LR.  I copy all images (using Explorer) from camera to two different locations (backup location first); and then my working area. In both cases, after files are copied I mark them Read-only.
    2. Poor observation, but in any event: the issue has only occurred when I do a large number of images. Its a poor observation as I have no exact number.  I suspect when I do less than 50 always works well every time.  However, I have also done some very large imports without issue.
    3. Error only occurs with my RAW images--for me that's NEF.  I have multiple cameras--those that only capture jpg images have never had an issue in LR.
    4. Even if the file is marked Read Only issues can still occur.  I then remove the image from the disk using LR -- and then manually (Explorer) copy in my backup image -- re import again and all is well.  I think one time I exited LR and replaced the bad file with a backup and restarted LR and all was well again.
    5. When it occurs I have performed a HASH value on the broken file and on the backed up file to determine if the file contents has changed--and each time the file contents has changed.
    6. I have had this occur immediately after import, but most often it occurs like this... import large number of images; Make changes in Development Module on random image, export jpg of changes--exit LR. Open up LR and file is corrupted.
    7. I have had this issue on multiple USB drives ( okay just 2 different drives have been tested ).
    What next--fire up Process Monitor and monitor the system (specifically LR) to see if it reports any file open for write access when this occurs.  So, far I have not had process monitor actually running when it occurs--one of these days.

  • Deleting images using iPhoto and a 128GB SD card and a Sony a6000

    I am having a problem with deleting images after transfer to my mac using either iPhoto or Aperture (All newest version) under Yosemite 10.10.2. What happens is I can transfer images and video from the a6000 into my mac but when asked to delete and answering that it is okay to delete I run into an issue. When after deleting the images in iPhoto and looking at the a6000's stored images there are blanks that have the filenames but know images. I have to format the SD card to get them cleared off the SD card. I would say it is a bug. It happens in both iPhoto and Aperture. And this occurs regardless of if I use an SD USB reader or hook up the camera video USB. The bundled software called PlayMemories from Sony doesn't has a feature to delete the images off the camera. The a6000 is a newer model and I think the way Sony organizes things on the SD card is crazy but it would be nice to have the delete feature in iPhoto actually works like every other camera I've owned.

    Yes but... you really don't want to use the iPhoto delete feature.
    Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
    1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
    2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
    3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.
    But that's my 2 cents.

  • Unable to delete images in Bridge

    I am running windows 7 64 bit and CS5. I seem to have a problem in that I can't delete images from Bridge. I open up the folder and when I try to delete the image it asks "do you want to delete this image" I click yes and it jumps to the next image without deleting the original image.
    I had this problem once before and read on here about "permissions" at that time I rectified the problem. Not this time though.
    I have been into my computer, unchecked the read only boxes, checked in the security tab that all users have full permissions and still no joy!  Can anyone suggest what else I can do? I did read also on here in a past post about "running as administator" not sure what this is and how to find it.
    Your help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks

    If you are running an external dirve one can see more permission problems.  In that case shut Bridge then right click on icon and choose "run as administrator".
    Hope this helps.
