Deleting images using iPhoto and a 128GB SD card and a Sony a6000

I am having a problem with deleting images after transfer to my mac using either iPhoto or Aperture (All newest version) under Yosemite 10.10.2. What happens is I can transfer images and video from the a6000 into my mac but when asked to delete and answering that it is okay to delete I run into an issue. When after deleting the images in iPhoto and looking at the a6000's stored images there are blanks that have the filenames but know images. I have to format the SD card to get them cleared off the SD card. I would say it is a bug. It happens in both iPhoto and Aperture. And this occurs regardless of if I use an SD USB reader or hook up the camera video USB. The bundled software called PlayMemories from Sony doesn't has a feature to delete the images off the camera. The a6000 is a newer model and I think the way Sony organizes things on the SD card is crazy but it would be nice to have the delete feature in iPhoto actually works like every other camera I've owned.

Yes but... you really don't want to use the iPhoto delete feature.
Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.
But that's my 2 cents.

How can i delete images from iPhoto?

I can not delete images from iphoto. When I try to move pictures to the trash they do not move, and if I try to delete them by pressing "right click> Trash" they do not move! pretty much the only way I can delete pictures from iphoto is to delete the library.
Can anyone help me? I'm about to permanently delete iphoto from my macbook pro.

Where are you trying to move these photos from? The following are the key combinations for moving from different entities in the library:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library:
1 - from the Event or Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the trash bin as above.
If none of the above work try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the new library make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Can I write titles of comments on the picture image using iPhoto?

I will like to be able to write titles or labels in the pictures stored on iPhoto files without the need to go to another photo software.
Is it a way to write descriptive titles on the image using iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You will need a 3rd party editor like GraphicConverter or Photoshop Elements 3. Also Gimp is an open source version of Photoshop that would do it. You can find the first two at VersionTracker.com and the other thru a Google search. No matter what editor you use you set up iPhoto (in its preferences) to use that application as the editor of choice when you double click on a thumbnail. You never want to open a file directly thru the editor.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Okay I use iPhoto 6 on an older mac and don't want to upgrade past 10.4.11. Can I upgrade iPhoto without the newer operating system? For the life of me I can't get iPhoto to recognize my camera reliably - although it does sometimes. Any advice, help?

The latest version of iPhoto which can operation with OS X 10.4.11 is iPhoto 7 which is part of iLife 08. You might be able to find a copy of iLIfe 08 on Amazon.com or Ebay.com.
iLife 08's full system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor
iMovie ’08 requires a Mac computer with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0 GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9 GHz or faster)

Permanently deleting images from iPhoto and hard drive

Ok, so I have deleted the jpeg files for the images that I wanted to get rid of. I can no longer find the icons that correspond to those files/images. However, when I open iPhoto and scroll through my library I can still see them as I scroll. If I stop scrolling, for whatever reason, the files that I previously deleted disappear and only reappear when I start scrolling again. I am also able to view them as thumbnails across the top of the library when I have it open. I want to get rid of these images completely so I will not see them again no matter what.
How can I delete the files/images so that I will never run across them in my library again, scrolling or not?

I'm wondering if, like iTunes, iPhoto keeps its own reference database of your images. I have mp3s I have disposed and iTunes thinks they are still there until I try to play them. In itunes I have to hunt them down in the itunes window and delete them there AND delete them on the drive too. iPhoto may have the same. iTunes badly needs an "update library references" button and it wouldn't surprise me if iPhoto was written along the same lines.

They are on the phone. I import them as usual, and then select to delete them off the phone. Then iPhoto says "deleting" but then the photos never come off of the phone.

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I am unable to import images from my Canon EOS 1200D camera using iPhoto. I receive the message : Unreadable, The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognisable format" I also tried to install the software that came with the camera but this does not work either and a message appears "ALERT - cannot be used with this version of this operating system. Can anyone advise please?

Have you taken the card out of the camera and used the computer's card reader and just drag the photos on the card into iPhoto or use iPhoto's import feature?

Frame Images using iPhoto?

Hello, i was wondering if it was at all possible to add a frame around pictures using iPhoto?
I would like to be able to have that effect of adding a simple white or black 'edge' around pictures.
Is this something that can be done in iPhot? if not, is it possible to get an 'add-on' effect added into iPhoto from a third party?
I have downloaded the trial version of Pixelmator but I cannot figure out how to do this. Seeing how complete Pixelmator is, I presume this would be pretty simple and standard effect. Yet I cannot figure out how to do it.
Any help with this 'simple' effect would be much appreciated.
ps : can watermarks be added too?

No, iPhoto does not have that capability. You will need a 3rd party image editor link one of the following;
Image Editors that support the use of layers:
Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac - $80
GraphicConverter- $35
Rainbow Painter - $30
Acorn- $50
Pixelmator-$60
Seashore- Open Source
GIMP for Mac- Open Source
If you want iWork you can also add frames on photos there and then import back into iPhoto as a new file. You can use iWeb also.

I am currently using a Credit Card for payment methods on the ITUNES store. But my sons are now using it also, so my husband thought it would be best to delete the card and buy ITUNES gift cards instead so we dont have to keep loading this card. But it's not deleting my information. I redeemed the cards already and says that I have a balance on my account. But when we try to purchase something it takes me to the billing screen and it says there is an issue with a previous purchase because the card was declined! What do I do?? Someone please help. Using iPhoto to make Slideshow with Stills and Movie Clips

Hello--Can someone give me some tips on making a DVD from a slideshow on iPhoto. The slideshow consists of still photos plus short video clips (7 -47 secs). I have already tried making a DVD but would like to know anything I may be doing incorrectly.
This is how I have done it so far:
1--Made an Album in iPhoto and put various still pictures and 3 or 4 short video clips in the Album.
2--Clicked on the + sign, bottom left, then clicked on 'Slideshow' then on 'Create'. Entered Theme/Music/Settings.
3--Clicked on 'SHARE'/Send to iDVD' at the top of the screen.
4--The slideshow was then Exported to iDVD.
I then proceeded to burn a DVD. It turned out fairly well, except I noticed during the video clips the audio in the clips was VERY slightly
over ridden by the music--not enough to be a problem. During the still shots the selected music would play.
Questions:
1--Please comment on the above procedure if you see anything I should be doing differently, ie is this the best way to mix
still pictures and videos?
2--Can this slideshow be uploaded to You tube or would you suggest a better way.

Thanks very much for your input Terence Devlin. I appreciate your comments that the system I'm using, which at the moment I am more familiar with, is at least workable. I have found working with iMovie more confusing, but will try looking for some good tutorials that may make it easier to work with.
I understand your comments on YT music useage and have been aware of that.
When you ask for 'a better way'... a better way to what?
I have found it difficult to upload the slideshow to You Tube. At one time for instance, the upload was going to take something like 6 hours! Obviously that was a 'bit' too long so I was hoping someone may be able to give some pointers on that, however I will try working on the iMovie system and see if I have better luck.

From where did you buy this "PIN"? And did you get an actual card, or did they just send you a number? If you got only a number, then you may well have been defrauded. You'll need to go back to whoever sold you this "PIN" to resolve the problem. Apple to the best of my knowledge does not authorize any company to provide codes rather than a physical card and hence probably cannot help you if you did not get a physical iTunes card or receive a gift certificate issued by the iTunes Store themselves.
