Deleting in I Photo

Dear kind Expert / Terence / Old Frog (you very kindly greatly assisted me the other day) / etc., - I have a large library file from which I have copied only about 1/3rd of these images into various albums.
Is it possible to highlight and delete in one command all the library items which are not copied into albums in this library - 2/3rd of the original whole? I want to retain only the images which are already placed in albums - 1/3rd of the whole.
Initially I have thought to copy each individual album into a folder on the desktop and then import each into a new library file thus editing out all the unwanted library images from the initial file. This works but all the images loose their original import date and then adopt a entirely non sequential random layout.
I want to retain the original imported date information and sequential order within each album.
Any advice would be very appreciated. Many thanks. Dirkaid.

This is a curious operation - what are you trying to do?
To find any pics that are NOT in an Album:
File -> New Smart Album
Album -> Is Not -> Any
Then trash those.

Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

If Other (the yellow bar) is too big something is corrupted. The only solution (that I know of) is to restore from your most recent backup using iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).

Welcome to the Apple Community.
It won't affect any photos in photo stream but any photos within the back up itself will go.

I have changed to a new macbook and given the old one to my partner (generous?) and want to delete a lot of my stuff on the old one (iphoto and itunes) without losing safari and mail data, settings etc so I dont want to a clean reinstall.

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod. My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway. Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store. What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to. You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases. If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All. LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

Depends on which photos.
Camera Roll pics ( taken with the iphone) can be deleted one at a time from the iphone, or when you import them to your computer as with any digital camera.
Pics synced to your iphone from your computer are deleted the sam way - the sync process. Open itunes, select what you want on your iphone, sync.

If you have a Mac you can delete them with Preview. To do this, connect your phone, launch Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone..., then select the photos you want to delete and press the Delete key.

double clicking in iPhoto will open the photo.
The left and right arrow key will move between photos, as well as swiping on a trackpad or Apple mouse.

While selected or in the smaller icon view hitting the Delete key will delete the pic.
Command Z will undo the last action taken.
Periodically you have to empty the iPhoto trash. iPhoto drop down menu>empty trash

Well, I believe I found it.....
When I connect the IPhone the device name pops up under devices in the selection column. Right click on the device name and select "Back-up".....
If this is incorrect please let others know as I won't be able to because my wife will have destroyed all computers in the house for losing her data.

As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
