Can Old "Installer Cache" Software for iTunes, Quicktime & Safari be deleted?

I know the university has updated its DNS server addresses this month, but since I am using DHCP nothing is supposed to change and a test indicated that I am connected to the new servers.
It sounds like a DNS problem, all right. It can't hurt to put these servers at the top of your list:

edit: There is one shareware that is an iTunes plugin called Multi-tunes. With it you can create multiple iTunes libraries, one library called "Main" one called "Bootlegs" etc, and Multi-Tunes will allow you to quickly switch between them from within the iTunes window. Not exactly what your looking for but close.

What is the best burn software for itunes?

I have Roxio software package but it won't read some of my songs on itunes. Is there a prefered software for itunes burning?

One of the best softwares for this is iDVD, but that is no longer included with iLife. You can still buy the retail version of iLife 11 at various online resellers. It does not produce true HD although the quality of my home movies is outstanding IMHO. If you want the closest to HD you can do then you can buy Roxio Toast along with the extra HD Bluray plugin; I tried it and could not tell the difference once I played the DVD on my HDTV though, but I am farsighted and sit quite a bit farther away from it than others. I don't believe Roxio offers a free trial - I use it to burn after giving my project the final touch in iDVD with its customizable menus and themes.

Software update question for iTunes and Safari

Preface -
I only use the software update in the Apple to check for new software, then download it manually and install it following all the directions so carefully specified here by many of you good folks.
So, first some the rhetorical questions - How much does SU check? Does it look at other Apple apps running at the same time? Does it check OS (it must!)? Does it look to see if what it suggests needs to be updated is compatible with what is there?)
Background information -
I have Safari 3.2.3. Since Safari doesn't work for me and I never use it, I have not updated it. Several of you told me not to bother updating Safari since v4x probably wouldn't work if 3 doesn't (what doesn't work is I can't quit without force quitting and there appears to be no fix).
The latest SU tells me new versions of iTunes - 9.0.3 - and Safari - 4.0.4 - are available. I am running iTunes 7.7. According to the download page, iTunes 9 has to have Safari 4.
The questions -
So, why does SU tell me updates for iT and Safari are available without specifying that I MUST do both updates and do them so that Safari 4 is in place before I update iTunes (or iTunes will die?) Note - I never visit the iTunes store; I just use iTunes to transfer to my iPod my own CDs which I've copied onto the computer in lossless.
Since, I never use Safari anyway, will it cause any difficulty if I DO do the update to 4 and just let it sit in a folder unused as 3.2.3 sits there doing nothing? OR does iTunes USE Safari to access the library of CD track info when it makes suggestions for labeling tracks on CDs I've downloaded to my library?
I hope this makes sense, I fear I am rambling on here...

First of all, thank you for tackling my issue with Safari. I have to begin by saying it was intermittent, but Mr H and I have just stopped using Safari. I just tried it and it was fine - but I don't know how long that will last.
And, by the way, we have the same issue occasionally for all three of our Tiger Macs - I have reinstalled OS, done the combo reinstall - OS plus Safari (I believe that's the term - combo?; it's been a while and I can't remember exactly what I was instructed here to do - but I did it).

Klaus1 was ever so patient and the final advice, I believe, was - just don't use Safari. It was a memory hog - using what looked like even more than 100% of memory - which made no sense - and it just wouldn't allow me to quit without force quitting. Everything else works just fine...or so it seems to me and has done so for ages (except that we've been gone for several months so I can't count that...)
Do you suggest doing this first?

Possibly in the /Home/Library/Safari/ folder or a problem with the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist file or /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/ folder. Start by deleting the latter two.
Should someone move this discussion over to Safari?

As of the last update for itunes and safari

Itunes and Safari , will no longer connect to the internet, I can still get updates for some of my subscriptions, the apple store will not open, Safari will not open any websites, my friend and myself are from usa, we are both in China at differnt locations, he is running XP and I running Vista

Try resetting Winsock, it looks like it worked for quite a few people in this thread -> With iTunes 10.4 I can access iTunes store.

Installation error 2738 updating itunes + quicktime on Windows Vista OS

Every time I try to install the new V7 iTunes + Quicktime on my Windows Vista Home Premium OS I receiving the error message that the installer has encountered an unexpected error, error code 2738. Anyone else encountered this? Any solutions?

CD Cover Software for iTunes

I use to have a CD cover software called CoverStar by Autostylus to make great CD covers from iTunes. I don't have it any longer and can't find it online to download. This is the link with info on it.

It worked great. Does anyone know where I can get it, or something comparable? You could import an iTunes music folder and make CD covers with your own artwork or theirs. It rocked! But I fear they are out of business or something.
I don't mind paying for software, I just want something that was as good as this was for iTunes. Please help!

Cover Star appears to have been discontinued, it's no longer available for download and the original link to the web page is dead. I used to use it myself (in fact I still have a copy but it's becoming unstable now with new OS X releases). I agree. I've used iTunes since iTunes 9.0. The new 11.0 update is horrible. With the now missing left side menu, it's very difficult to navigate. You don't know where you are or where to go. I delete everything Apple from my computer, and inverted back to iTunes 10.7.

HT1349 how can i delete an apple id for itunes and install another

Hello, My daughter has an apple id password on my ipad 2 and i wan to delete her account off my ipod 2

I have seen folks report that they have changed the Apple ID in Settings, but when they want to buy something another ID or their old ID appears, so I have always told folks to change the ID in both places, with the proviso that if they see the wrong account to sign out.
I cannot test it here because my two Apple IDs used in the store apps are for two different countries. So when I change the Apple ID in Settings, up pops an alert that the ID that I just entered is only good in a particular country's store and then both the iTunes Store and the App Store apps pop open and make the change. I cannot test what might occur with two IDs from the same country.

Ipod touch software for itunes

Hi,
I recently had to replace my hardrive in my computer and reinstalled itunes, everything works fine, but when I connect my ipod touch to try to transfer my music back, I get an error message that says "This Ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes insatller and remove Itunes, and then reinstall itunes". Well I have done that quite a few times and the same message pops up. I'm vey frustrated if anyone can help.

Try going to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Remove the following:
1. Apple Software Update
2. Apple Mobile Device Support
3. iTunes
4. QuickTime
Restart the computer
Download & install from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

My software update for itunes showed on my pc a notice saying mobilme services has encountered a problem I reinstalled the software and still showing this problem on my PC I can not download the new version of my software for itunes.

DJ Software for iTunes in Vista

Hi all
I would like to get some (third party?) DJ software so I can create some of my own mixes with my iTunes music. I have purchsed around £700 worth of music through iTunes so I need something that will work with Apples DRM. I would also like something that will let me use my own playlists as well as create new ones.
The cost is not particularly relevant, I just need something good, reliable and that actually works !
Any recommendations?

I've downloaded it and it works up to a point, you can't use existing playlists etc., but it will work with DRM encoded tracks purchased through the iTunes store.
The reason I want to try other software is that i've tried emailing this company and have not received any replies to my questions. The software was last updated quite some time ago and i'm wondering if they've gone out of business.

Windows Installer Not Working for Itunes 64

I just got a touch and it says I have to use Itunes 64 bit. So I go download 8.02 64 from the apple site but when I try to install it a popup comes up and say windows installer could not be accessed. So I can't install it. I have vista 64bit home prem and was wondering if anyone has a solution yet? I have tried a lot of google solutions but none seem to work. Thanks

You may have to download iTunes again using Internet Explorer.

Fixing Trackpoint Scroll for ITunes, Picasa, Safari, Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Writer

The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

I have this problem too and have added the following to c:\program files\synaptics\syntp\TP4table.dat right below the similar text:

This did nothing for me though (I have saved and rebooted) How do I know what to put in there? The two programs I am trying to scroll in are Steam and Rhinoseros 3D.
Btw, should not this be fixed by Lenovo?? Are there Thinkpads that don't have this problem and what makes them different?
