Deleting iphoto duplicates

Help, I have too many duplicate photos in iphoto and I'm not sure how it happened. I can't imagine the task of one by one comparing them myself. Any suggestions?

three choices from best to worst
1 - go back to the backup from just before you mistakenly imported an iPhoto library into your iPhoto library - you NEVER import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library
2 - If you were trying to convert a previous library and there was nothing useful in your new library delete the bad iPhoto library and convert properly - drag the old iPhoto library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto
3 - purchase duplicate annihilator - http://brattoo.com/propaganda/ - and hope it catches the duplicates

How do i delete duplicate photos in my iphoto library.  i imported them (1500 pics) twice and don't want to manually go through them all.  Is there a way to get iphoto to compare photos and delete the duplicates?

There are two apps, actually one app and one Applescript script, for finding and removing duplicate photos from iPhoto. They are:
    Duplicate Annihilator
    iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates

  • How do i delete all duplicates in my iphoto ?

I have so many duplicates of photos on my iphoto on my macbook pro and on my iphone and I want to find an easy way to delete all duplicates in one easy step instead of going through 4,000 pictures.

There is no way to compare for duplicates across threetwodevices running two different OSes and applications.
Some apps for dealing with duplicates in iPhoto on your Mac:
    iPhoto Library Manager
    Duplicate Annihilator
    Decliner
    iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner

  • Automatic Delete all duplicate photos in IPhoto ?

How can I delete all duplicate photos in my I Photo ? I have 6000 photos with many duplicates.

Where are you seeing these duplicates? In iPhoto or via the Finder? If it's in iPhoto then try using Duplicate Annihilator. It can detect and identify duplicated image files that have been imported into iPhoto.
If it's via the Finder then it's very likely you don't have true duplicates like you think you do.

  • IPhoto duplicate deletions with 2 Libraries

I want to designate my iPhoto Library to an external firewire directory. (I do this in iTunes without issues) Yet it seems this features does not exist in iPhoto 6.
Now I have an iPhoto library on my external firewire drive and on my iMac both named iPhoto Library (or whatever the default name is) So consequently I have a multitude of duplicates. My first thought was to delete my iMac library...but I noticed I have a 2006 folder here and not on my external. Which got me thinking when in 2005 did I make the switch…can't remember and now I'm worried about losing photos with a library deletion.
iPhoto discussions tells me there are 2 options for duplicate deletions.
1: Duplicate Annihilator from Brattoo Software
    or
2: iPhoto Diet (which currently does not work on iPhoto 6)
    Are there any other solutions?

    André:
You can use iPhoto Library Manager to merge two libraries or move photos, albums and/or rolls from one library to another. Once you get all of your photos into the library on the external HD you can delete the other one. Once you have merged the libraries you can use Duplicate Annihilator to cull out any duplicates that may exist.

  • I have a lot of duplicate photographs in my library. how can i delete the duplicates automatically?

I have a lot of duplicate photographs in my iPhoto library. It happened while our EIS were saving a computer breakdown, but now i would like to know how to selectively delete the duplicates, without doing it individually. That is, can I set up iPhoto to automatically search for and delete duplicate photographs in the library?

  • How do I Delete all Duplicate Photos?

I have several copies of the same photos in iPhoto and under Pictures in the HD. I am not sure how they got duplicated in the first place, but there has got to be a simple way to delete all duplicates, right? I have like 10,000 images and many of them are duplicates, and many of them are images from my text books that I do not want.
I have iWork and MobileMe if that helps at all...

I don't know. They all claim to find duplicate files. The poster will need to read the Read Me files to confirm if the duplicates inside the iPhoto library folder are included.

  • Iphoto duplicates in images and documents

Is it normal for images to be stored in all images and all documents,
I would like to reduce the amount I have , but first want to be sure I do not delete the originals. Surely I am using double the space?

am I ok to delete duplicates? from documents and images
    NO
or am I best leaving well alone?
    Yes!
All Images is just a list of files and being in the list does not indicate en extra copy
All images is just a list and DOES NOT indicate duplicates - it is like having three copies of your bank statement - that does not give you three times as much money
    All documents is the same
Likewise all documents is just a list and DOES NOT indicate duplicates
And if these photos are in iPhoto you must NEVER move or delete them from these lists - it will corrupt your iPhoto library - Photos in iPhoto must be managed ONLY using iPhoto
Do not ever delete iPhoto photos from the All images or the all documents lists these ARE NOT Duplicates - they are just a list of files

  • After I run duplicate annihilator do I have to delete the duplicate photos?

I am a novice IMAC user so please forgive me. I ran duplicate annihilator to remove dulplicate photos from my IPHOTO albums. Do I need to delete the duplicates or did the annihilator do it for me? Thanks M

You need to delete them, after reviewing them to make sure the app got it right.

  • I duplicated all the pictures in my library. Is there any way to delete the duplicates at one time without going and deleting them one by one

I duplicated all my pictures. Is there any way to delete the duplicates without deleting them one at a time. I now have 44,000 pictures and have 22,000 duplicates

Easiest solution: restore from your back up.
Other than that: For dealing with duplicates in iPhoto check out Duplicate Annihilator or Decloner

You can use one of the apps:
    iPhoto Library Manager

My personal favorite is the same as Larry's, iPhoto Library Manager.

  • IPhoto duplicates all of my photos and doesn't recognize new folders.

I am using a Macbook pro, Mountain lion, and Iphoto.  What a nightmare!  Iphoto duplicates every photo or folder I import.  If I create a new folder it cannot find the folder or the photos within.  I have tried updating IPhoto but it appears my IPhoto is up to date.
Is there a fix for this?
If not what is the easiest way to export my photos and uninstall Iphoto?

Unfortunately I have the same problem as DFMitchell.
Whenever I import photos from either my Nikon camera or my iPhone, either the device (which doesn't seem likely given they are two completely separate devices made by two different companies) or iPhoto itself creates a small thumbnail duplicate of the image. The name differs slightly to :*number*.jpg instead of *number*.JPG. as such, when I navigate through Finder to All Images and look at my images in the source folder, I can see a duplicate of every image. When I navigate to the same photo through iPhoto itself, I cannot see that duplicate.
I originally thought this was a problem and so began to manually and painfully delete all these duplicates from the Finder window. However now in iPhoto, the thumbnail image that you can usually see as the 'front' photo on each event folder (ie before you even go into the event) has disappeared. additionally, normally you can move your mouse over an event folder (again before you enter it) and the different images in that event flicker across. Now it's just blank. However when I enter the event i can still see all the photos so I know they're still there.
Question is : why does iPhoto create the duplicate?
Second Question : If my guess is right and the small duplicate is meant to be a thumbnail image which can be seen in the events window, how do I get them back now that i've deleted them? (they're gone out of the trash too)
Note to self - Apple always has a reason for what they do. don't question and don't mess with it especially when you don't understand!!!

  • IPhoto duplicate in launchpad

    Hi there,
I have a problem with iPhoto duplicate in my Lunchpad.
I have read most of the threads here (I believe) regarding application duplicates in Launchpad, but I can't seem to find a solution.
Most people appear to have problems after osx lion upgrade from snow leopard.
I, on the other had, have just bought the new Macbook Air with OSX lion native on the system.
I have gone through the usual post unboxing update, and updated iPhoto through the app store. Since I have done this, I have 2 iphotos in my launchpad, both of which launch the same version number of iphoto. (9.1.5):
i have done a spotlight search of "iphoto", this only turns up one application in the folder
there is no duplicate application folder anyway as this was not an upgrade from an older osx
there is no duplicate of an older version of iphoto in the application folder
i have even gone so far as deleting the dock iphoto icon
i have even deleted my whole iphoto library (they're backed up elsewhere)
In short I have no idea where the duplicate is...
    Any one have ideas?

    re: launchpad DB.
Anyone else have a Macbook Air with native Lion?
I have tried searching for Library\application support, but there is no "dock" folder people are describing...
That seems to be a dead end for me.
    My Library\application support folder has:
apple, avbdeviced, crashreporter, garageband, ilifemediabrowser, proapps, scripteditor...
... folders, and that is all.

  • HT4915 When i did my itunes match, there were some duplicated albums and songs.  I have gone into my library and deleted the duplicates, but they still show up on my iphone as duplicates.  What can i do to get rid of them?

When I did my itunes match, there were some duplicated albums and songs in my library.  I have gone back into my library from my computer, and deleted the duplicates.  When I did so, itunes did not ask me if I wanted to delete them from the cloud.  They are still showing up on my iphone as duplicates in the cloud.  What can I do to get them from showing up in my iphone?

They are not on the iphone in the first place.  It is just a setting that allows you to see the songs that are available in icloud, but not on your iphone.  If you turn the setting to off, then you no longer see the songs that are in icloud, but NOT on your iphone.

  • How to delete the duplicate email address in BP master data

    Hi,
When  you get an email ids from the third party vendor and you are loading into CRM BP master data.  how to delete the duplicate email address already exits in the system.  In CRM you can create the same BP with different id.   I would like to know how to delete the email address during importing email addresses from the third party tool.
During the campaign you are sending email to all your customers, when the customer want to unsubscibe the email address from your list, how to unsubcribe the email address and how to updat the BP master data.
If you are sending the email to customer, you are using html or simple text, if the customer wants only html or simple text, how you to specify in the system?
    thanks,
    arul

    Hello Arul,
welcome to the SDN CRM Development forum.
    1. I think you should clear the data with duplicate E-Mail adresses in the external tool.
    2. Unsubscription could be done by a Marketing Attribute which could be set by using a Target Group which is created by Campaign Automation. Have a look at this Toppic. There is also a Best Practice avaliable at http://help.sap.com/bp_crmv340/CRM_DE/index.htm.
    3. Also HTML or Simple text can be mained in a Marketing Attribute. You have to use different Mail Forms to which are sent to different Target groups.
    Regards
    Gregor
