Deleting languages in 10.4.0

I had to reinstall 10.4.0 on a G4 and the installer wouldn't let me uncheckthe languages option. How can I delete them now. There are >800 Mb, andI could use the space. Plus, I don't speak Finnish:)

  • Deleting "Language files" to free up space?

I'd previously read about deleting Language files to free up space, but the one program I'd looked at on Version Tracker was complained about by lots of Intel-based Mac users. Something about not being able to use PPC-only applications afterward. I don't remember exactly.
I would like to free up some extra space by deleting the extra Language files. Any suggestions of the best way to do so?
I am using an iMac G4 PPC

Have a look at DeLocalizer. It's fairly 'old' now, but it works perfectly even now in OS 10.4.9 because it only removes .lproj resources and nothing else. Don't be put off by seeing that it hasn't been updated for a long time: it simply doesn't need updating because Unix hasn't changed and still uses .lproj resources. I and many others are still using it and freeing up a lot of space; I run it after every large upgrade/update. Be aware that it takes quite a time (allow, say, 15 minutes on your G4) to check your entire drive. The only known caveats concern Acrobat Pro and Linotype FontExplorer X – see this doc.

  • Delete Language option on the login screen?

    Hi,
It's enough to modify the instanceconfig.xml file.
you have to properly set the AllowedLanguages tag:
    <AllowedLanguages>en, it, es</AllowedLanguages>

  • How to prevent LPRemove from deleting language packs?

    Hi,
I have a problem with Windows 8.1 MUI deployment - unused language packs are disappearing after few days (weeks maybe).
As far as i know there is a task "LPRemove" in "scheduled tasks" but i don't know how it works.
    I found this link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825699.aspx#LPRemovalTimer
and there is a note about it:
"In Windows 8, the language pack removal runs on all Windows editions. However, any languages that are selected by users in the language preferences section of the control panel are not removed. Users can choose to run multiple languages and any language
packs that are not used by the user are removed from the computer"
In my enviroment I'd like to install all language packs used in company but set only one by user GPO settings. When someone from other country will logon to computer his GPO will be set and he will get his own language. But this situation may occur only once
a year (for example). As far as understand the note language pack will be deleted earlier.
So... Can I safely disable / remove this task from scheduled tasks? Or this is a bug or I'm do it in wrong way?
    Regards
    Michal

    Hi Michal,
What's your edition of Windows? Windows 8 Single Language editions can only run a single language.
If you are using non-single language edition, according to the library article "Also, any language pack that is installed by a user is not removed.", after deployment, you also need to install it by yourself with the injected language pack.
In addition, you could disable or delete that task.

  • I deleted languages now iphoto wont open

    Hi there,
I deleted all the languages from iphoto . I clicked on the iphoto icon whilst it was in finder, i clicked on info to show details, then i erased all languages( deselected english but somehow still deleted) now iphoto wont open.
Any suggestions? I thought about backing up the application from time machine but will that erase any new photos i have on current iphoto library?
    Thanks matt

    Matt:
You'll need to restore the iPhoto application using Time Machine. Restoring the application will not affect your photos. They are separate from the application. *Never delete the English module from any application or the system.*
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to maintan  and Delete Languages for Sales Group?

    Dear all,
How can we maintain Language for Sales Group?  My end user requirement is He want's  to maintain Text language and description for sales group  in Spanish language only.  But System is showing default language English.  How can we maintain spanish Language in Sales Group? and How can we delete the existing Language English from the list.
    Thanks in advance.
    Venkat

Are you looking for an option for you Mac/iLife version of iPhoto or the iPhone/iPad version of iPhoto for iOS? Since the pictures in iPhoto for iOS are from the built-in camera or synced with iPhoto on your Mac, I would guess you should look for a utility like that in the iPhoto of iLife forum.

  • Updating deleting language

I recently updated the software of a newly bought nokia 5250 using the nokia ovi suite.
When the updating finished i discovered that the phone is now in english (instead of in hebrew as before) and that the hebrew language is now deleted from the device (or atleast i can't change it to hebrew again nor i can write in hebrew)
How can i restore the language?

You will have to get the language pack installed at Nokia Care.. It seems the phone was not intended to be sold in your region, but the retailer for his own benefits added the language pack later on and sold the devices..
Keep in mind that if you get the pack re-installed.. any future Updates / Re-install of the firmware will again put you in the same situation.
Not sure where you are located, but in absense of a Nokia Care in your region....you may try getting the language pack installed at the Retailer from where you bought this phone..

  • Deleted language files + architecture

Ok I screwed up big time I think. I used Monolingual to delete what I thought were unnecessary files. I have intel version of software I use like Dreamweaver, Acrobat and Photoshop. Well neither of them want to start now. I can only put it down to me removing the language files and achitectures. I have English and English United Kingdom as my only language files. After that is the only language I ever use.
Could that be responsible for the problems with Photoshop Acrobat and Dreamweaver? Thunderbird, Firefox, Word, Excel, Xcode, ImageReady, Fireworks, Shake, Final Cut Pro and Blender all work just fine.
My computer is a Macbook Pro with 2GB RAM, Dual processor and 160GB HD 70GB of which is free space.
I have tried to install the above software so this problem really intrigues me. I am not really sure of any sort of activity monitor as I have only been using Macs for a few months. So sorry for I sound like a total newbie here.

Archive and Install will not work. It will preserve your Applications folder as-is with all the missing components. If you opt to preserve users then your /Home/Library/ folder will be preserved including any now damaged components.
Trust me I've been down this path once. When you remove all the required frameworks needed you cannot get them back by Archive and Install because the A&I will preserve parts of the installed OS that you don't want preserved.
Do your backup, but do an Erase and Install then reinstall all your third-party software.

  • I'm getting a white screen after deleting languages

I'm sure I did not delete English.  I just deleted a few unusual languages and iMac was still working after that.  But after a Restart, I'm getting a blank screen and I don't know what to do.  I'm running the latest OS version on my iMac (Intel).  What else should I do?

See this note for Mountain Lion. This Apple note for all other versions is more complete with options.
Sort of net of both ... boot into recovery mode by holding the command and r keys down, bring up Disk Utility and repair the disk. Try to boot. If still a blank screen, reboot into recovery mode and reinstall the operating system.

  • System memory low, delete languages!

Every time when I try to download any app. I get dis error, I deletes all my applications but still if I try to download it gives me same error. It says delete my world items. I got only bbm and app world on my world but it shows 6MB of 256MB free!
    Please help me out
    Thanks

    Hello nomykhan
As you have not stated so I assume you have OS6 on your BlackBerry 9300 , I know it consumes more memory then OS5 , but still it will allows us to install those native applications.
If you already transfered your media files to you memory card then do a backup of your device using BlackBerry Desktop Software then please try to this it will help :
KB11320 : How to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Device software using BlackBerry desktop software for windows.
After Reload don't restore everything from those backup . restore only your Contacts and calender entries. You can then install a fresh copy of each application from BlackBerry World afterwards . Also please note if you are running OS6 on your Curve 9300 then you have to look at your application memory frequently . Don't install too much apps at a time . Install only those that you need.
Try it and let us know if you feel any problem.

  • Remove delete language - SMLT -

    Hi,
Is it possible to completely remove a language in SMLT?
    Thanks,
    Menelaos Maglis

    No.
Languages are imported into all tables, each support packages adds language dependent data into the system.
If you upgrade, you can choose to not import a language but the data, that is in the tables, will stay there.

Yes, a reinstall is your only option. Monolingual gives very specific warnings on what may happen if you do not double check what you have asked it to delete. Unless you are desperately trying to retrieve a small part of free space, I would highly recommend not using such programs, as you have found out. A reinstall (do backup though) should install a full system including languages and leave your other data untouched.

  • How to delete or put in order a foreign language preference

I know where and how to set language preferences. A non-English language I want to be THIRD in priority keeps getting put as FIRST. I delete it from the list, close the browser and re-open, and the deleted language is back as FIRST.
Running Win 7, Firefox 28.0 on a Dell Inspiron 530

In the profile folder, there is a file prefs.js (dated 3-25-14) which is NOT read only. Then there are files prefs-X.js where X = 1 - 27 which were created yesterday and today which ARE all checked read only.
You say above "copy this pref line to the file" but I do not know what that refers to.
And I had opened the preferences_not_saved article yesterday, which had so many cross references that my head exploded :-) and I didn't know how to proceed.
