Deleting Mail accounts

Hi everyone,
I have a 10.4.10 mail server. We recently had some people leave and I would like to remove their mail accounts. Is this as simple as removing their user accounts in WGM or is there a utility I have to run?
TIA!
Andrew

Set it up again. If you didn't delete anything from the mail server, everything should sync right back up.

  • Mail continues to ask me for password for deleted Mail account

Hey guys, I've deleted an old mail account in both the Mail application itself, as well as the Accounts folder in my system preferences.  Nonetheless, Mail continues to ask me to type in the password for this old gmail account.
It's gotten so annoying that I'm not able to use mail anymore and have to use Thunderbird, which is ok, but I love how everything syncs.
A funny thing.... This is the computer that syncs with my iPhone 4s, and yet I have no issues with the mail accounts on the iPhone.
I imagine it's some old bit of data somewhere in the back of my system, but I don't know much about how these things work.
I can provide images of how my Accounts in system preferences works and how that compares to the error message if you need it.  Also I can tell you anything else you need to know.
This problem is so annoying...can you help?

  • Adding and Deleting mail accounts

    Hi all,
I have a 10.4.11 server running Mail services. I recently tried to add a user account for a new employee. The account was created without error, and the appropriate mailbox created, etc., etc. However whenever I tested logging in to webmail, I got the following error message:
    "ERROR: Could not complete request.
    Query: SELECT "INBOX"
    Reason Given: System I/O error"
At the same time, in the console I get the following message:
"Aug 22 11:40:58 od-replica imap[10718]: IOERROR: opening /Volumes/DataMirror/mailserver/mail-store/user/monicatanksley/cyrus.header: No such file or directory
    Aug 22 11:40:58 od-replica imap[10718]: IOERROR: opening /Volumes/DataMirror/mailserver/mail-store/user/monicatanksley/Deleted Messages/cyrus.header: No such file or directory
Aug 22 11:40:59 od-replica imap[10718]: IOERROR: opening /Volumes/DataMirror/mailserver/mail-store/user/monicatanksley/cyrus.header: No such file or directory"
I then went to delete the user account as I was under the impression that this also deletes the mail account. However the user entry is still in mailboxes.db. How am I to delete it completely so I can work on recreating this account?
    TIA!
    Andrew

You can use SirAdmin ( http://explanatorygap.net/2006/05/13/siradmin-a-gui-replacement-for-cyradm/ ) to delete IMAP accounts.
Alternatively, recreate it in WGM making sure you use the very same first shortname you did when you first created the account. When done, download mailbfr ( http://osx.topicdesk.com/tools/ ), install it and issue:
    mailbfr -m username
(replace username with that first shortname - monicatanksley according to the log entry)

  • 24.5.0 - deleted mail account and have issues with a spurious New Folder

    Hi
I have been messing around with my Thunderbird data, so this problem is of my own making I think.
I deleted an email account using my provider setup area. This was an email account I had set up at the start when joining this provider and contained only test messages etc. and so was of no further use.
I had set up this email address in Thunderbird and after deleting the account with my provider I then removed the account in Thunderbird. All seemed to be OK.
Now, to confuse matters. I had previously set up a list of folders under Local Folders for filtered email in Thunderbird - I now moved them up into my main account by click/drag/drop onto the account name. Although this took a very long time (and unexpectedly used an enormous amount of bandwidth), the operation finally seemed to finish (although that was really hard to determine until I finally found the Activity Monitor).
Now, for the point of this posting:
After all of the above, I discovered that a spurious folder had been created under the INBOX of my main account, called 'New%20Folder=0' which I read as New Folder-0. I don't know at what point in the above that this folder appeared, but I *think* I must have dragged/dropped one of my folder moves on the INBOX instead of the account name field.
Now, dear readers, if you have got thus far, the crux of my problem. I can not delete this folder, when I try, I get the message
The current operation on 'New%20folder-0' did not succeed. The mail server for account ******* responded folder does not exist.
I have tried a whole bunch of things, altering settings in its Properties etc but nothing lets me delete it.
Question is: how can I delete it?

    I would:
    a) check on the email provider's website to check if it had copied there, and deal with it. Your mention of bandwidth implies this is an IMAP-connected account.
    b) close Thunderbird, open its [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb?esab=a&s=profiles&r=1&as=s profile] and delete the offending folder there. You need to browse your profile for a while to understand its structure before doing anything rash.
On the whole, I discourage users from dragging folders about as you have done. By all means drag the ''contents'' (better yet, use multi-select, then right-click and "copy to" or "move to") but moving ''folders'' is IMHO an undefined operation with unpredictable outcomes. I've heard of users moving a folder from one account to another and finding that it still associates with (i.e. "belongs to") the original account.

  • Deleted Mail Account Still Sending Mail

    Hi Apple World,
Can anyone explain to me why an old gmail account which I used to have as an account on my Mac is still sometimes coming up as the from address when I send mail?
This has got me in some trouble as people have been "replying" and I have not received it as it goes to my gmail which I do not use. So my boss now thinks I just havent replied! I checked my sent box and sure enough it says sent from [email protected] however the only account I have are a [email protected] and my icloud account.
I have deleted the gmail account entirely from google but can anyone explain how this may have happened as I have deleted other accounts off my mail and would like to make sure I don't have to worry about them.
    Cheers,
    Linda

  • Recovery of deleted mail account

I accidently deleted a Mail account in the Mail application. As a result I have "lost" all the emails associated with that account.
Is there an easy way to recover those emails if I know the name of the folder that held those files? And if I don't know the name?
    Thanks
    Harry

Before deleting an email account in Jaguar or Panther Mail, the following warning message is provided (the warning message with Tiger Mail is slightly different):
Are you sure you want to remove the account “XXXXXXXXX”?
This will erase all mailboxes for this account, but will not affect any messages stored on your mail server.
This is sometimes ignored or not completely understood but is based on the Mail.app filing structure so now the long winded answer for the reason.
Many other email clients utilize a single large database file which is not dependent on individual account and associated mailbox filing.
When creating an account in Mail, an account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) is created in the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail using the Finder. For POP type accounts, the following mailbox (mbox) files are created within the account named folder when the function is used by the account: INBOX.mbox, Drafts.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, Deleted Messages.mbox and Junk.mbox (when Junk mail is set to automatic). The mbox files within the account named folder represent the account named mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk (when Junk mail is set to automatic) in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer.
When deleting an account in Mail, the account named folder at Home > Library > Mail is deleted at that time and as the warning message indicates, the associated account mailboxes within the account named folder are also deleted. You must select OK after the warning message appears.
It would be preferable for the account named folder to be moved to the hard drive Trash can which requires an additional step to delete but this is not what occurs.
Your options are not very promising.
To have any hope of recovering your data, you need to immediately stop using your system and then purchase a copy of a recovery tool such as Tech Tool Pro (Micromat) or Data Rescue (Prosoft Engineering), both of which have data recovery tools. You can download a free trial version of Data Rescue from Prosoft Engineering's website. I've not used Data Rescue, but I've seen reports that it recovers files that the others cannot, so it might be your best hope. The chances generally aren't really good even so, but short of sending your drive to a data recovery service (expensive), such utilities are your only hope.
Note that the more you use your system before you attempt recovery, the more likely it is that the system will overwrite the sections of the drive where the data you want to recover is stored, rendering it unrecoverable by any means. You should therefore stop using the system completely until you get and try to use one of the file recovery tools.
This also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a regular backup of all important data.

  • Can't delete mail account in Leopard

Trying to help my mom out and got things a little twisted up.
She was having mail issues (passwords etc) so rather then messing with all the random settings I decided to delete the account and then re-enter it so it auto-fills everything. Only problem was that when I hit the delete button it removed the account and all the stuff from the inbox etc but then popped up a messages saying something like "are you sure you want to do this as deleting everything will be lost". Something along those lines. I wasn't sure what it was talking about so I hit cancel to stop it.
Now it seems to be gripping onto that mail account half way. I can close the email program and reopen and then account shows up again in the list of accounts. If I remove it (no messages pop up) then it disappears and about 10 seconds later I get a popup message saying that the mail accounts password is wrong? Though there is no accounts listed and I've even deleted all the passwords from keychain etc. If I enter a password it does nothing (I know I have the right password).
Then, if I close mail and reopen the account is listed in the preferences again automaticly? I keep deleting it but it keeps popping back in but with no emails etc and a bunch of password etc popups bugging me. I can't seem to ADD the account again either as it just comes up with an error I think because that account is halfway in the mail app somehow.
Is there anyway to manually remove any trace of this account from the mail app or something so that I can re-add it fresh?
    Thanks!

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If saving the old Mails is important...
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist

    Hi,
I had the same problem at first, but fixed it. Read my post and see if your problem was the same as mine. If it was, there's an easy fix!

  • Deleted mail account - where to find deleted emails

    Hi there
I have done the same stupid mistake others have done and accidentally deleted my mail account. I was trying to delete my gmail account in mail but selected my primary home email account instead.(I blame the computer) Thing is, it seems a 'partial' delete, in that this morning I still receive my incoming emails, ie the account settings are still there. Also all my sent emails, and trash from that account are still there. But as for the incoming emails for the past 5 years - nothing. And in library/mail there is no record of this account folder. Where does the deleted stuff go, if it doesn't go in the trash, and why did my deleted account action not wipe all the emails, incoming and outgoing, and not the account setup details in mail preferences? I am just curious because there is a small part of me that hopes somehow i can retrieve the emails from within the computer without having to pay for a data rescue program. (there would only be about 20 or so emails that we've need to keep for work purposes)

    hi!
I have a question -- if I delete my mailbox in mail (one of them) -- which is my gmail personal account -- will it delete everything off Mail AND my gmail or just Mail Application? So hypothetically, if I delete the gmail account in Mac Mail and when I sign in that same email on gmail.com -- all my mail will still be there ?
I want to just have my work email on Mac Mail and I dont want my personal email on Mac Mail as well.
    Thank you!

  • Cannot delete mail account, it keeps coming back

I am trying to delete a mail account on my mac book air, with OS X 10.7.5.  Every time I delete it, it goes away until I restart the Mail application.  Then it reappears and reloads the email into my in box.  It is the IMAP account i set up with MobileMe and susequently iCloud
I have removed my connection to iCloud through the system preferences so I have no idea how it is reattaching itself to this account.
Any and all help will be most appreciated!

Turn off Mail and notes syncing in system preferences > iCloud.

  • Can't delete mail account from Mail

    Hello -
Am new to OS X Server.
I bought a MacMini server and have been fiddling with various settings, learning how best to deploy it in my business. Once I feel comfortable, I am planning to wipe it and start a fresh.
But at the moment, on my MBP, I have two identical IMAP accounts in Mail - both linked to the mail service on the server. I can delete one of them - but it reappears a few moments later. The second one reappears instantly.
I have "Unlinked" my MBP with the server in logon options under preferences - but this doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can delete them?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Identical problem
    - Mail service automatically configured [email protected] I allowed this in response to server's invitation. I had one local server mail account under Mail 4.1 and disabled it, instantly creating two more that I can't disable because the "Save" responds that the path (/Users/Me/Library/Mail/[email protected]) is taken. And when "-" removing them they instantly reappear. I can remove two and tell the last one not to get mail but unchecking "Enable" and save (only by leaving that account) only makes all three instantly reappear.
    - In Server Preferences, for each user, I can't turn off Mail service. Gear spin flashes. Checkbox stays off but switch to another user and back and it's checked Mail again. Deleting the Contact Info > Contact > jabber and email still won't let you uncheck Mail.
    - In Server Preferences clicking on User then Group then User again accounts started disappearing. User gone, another, all gone. Then can't run Server Preferences because it can't log in. "There may be a problem with the Open Directory Service." Restart server again. All back. Still can't uncheck Mail service.

  • Deleting Mail account without losing old messages

Hi, I'm switching Mac Books and I already set up my mail account in my current Mac. Is there a way to remove my account in the previous Mac Book with out deleting all the messages? Last time I deleted the account, I lost all the messages. No need to transfer all the emails to the current Mac. My husband will be using the previous Mac so I can always check old messages. I just don't want my messages keep coming into his Mac because it will fill up his mailbox.

I didn't have the archive option, so what I did was to just save everything to a new mailbox and then edit the mail properties to my husband's email address. Thanks for the reply!

  • Syncing with iTunes deleted mail account on iPhone

    iPhone: 5, iOS 6.1
    Mac: MacOS 10.6.8
I have a number of accounts defined in my Mac mail and when I set up my iPhone and sync'd with with iTunes, it successfully created those accounts in the Mail app on the iPhone, very nice.
However, I had to change the server parameters of one of the mail accounts on the Mac and when I sync'd again with the iPhone, the mail account was deleted on the iPhone.  The new mail server parameters had been verified on the Mac before I sync'd with the iPhone.
How do I get the sync operation to re-create that mail account on my iPhone?  and why was the account deleted on my iPhone?

Deleting one account in iPhone will result in all the duplicate accounts being erased at the same time.
The problem is that iTunes shows duplicate accounts in its account list. Syncing again brings back the duplicate accounts to the iPhone. I can't figure out how to reset this list.

  • Delete mail account on iPhone without deleting contacts

I can find no way to delete all mail at one time on my iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.2 except to delete the account. Then I get the message that deleting the account will also delete the Contacts, Calendars, and Notes—which I do NOT want to do. So, two questions:
    1. Is there a way to delete all the mail at one time? Or at least one mailbox at a time?
    2. Is there a way to delete the account without deleting the Contacts, Calendars, and Notes?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I called Apple support and they managed to solve my problem
They gave me the following instructions:
    1. Go to appleid.apple.com, press "Manage your Apple-ID" and write in your current apple-id and password.
    2. Change your primary mailadress to your OLD mailadress (your old apple-id).
    3. Log on to your old email and confirm.
    4. Now you can write your ordinary password on iCloud in your iPhone, using your old apple-ID.
    (Settings > iCloud)
    5. If you would like to keep that apple-ID, you don't have to do anything else. If you rather want the previous apple-ID, you first delete the account on your iPhone.
    6. Change back your primary email address as it was before (on appleid.apple.com), and log on to your email to confirm.
    7. Now you can type in your current apple-ID account on iCloud. (Settings > iCloud)
This solved it for me anyways!
    Sorry for the bad english
