Deleting messages from Hotmail server

I have Mail set up to receive my Hotmail emails. However, if I delete an email from Mail, and then go to Hotmail.com, the email is still there in my inbox. On a PC, using Outlook, I can delete an email from Outlook and it's gone from the inbox on the Hotmail website. Can this be done with Mail?

If it's IMAP, (I doubt now), then identical folders are needed, but should be created automatically.
If POP3 then the only choices are leaving it on the Server or deleting it on the Server once downloaded, so I don't think that is it either.
Must be WebMail, (normally only viewable On-Line), I think the only solution other that Outlook is FreePop, but haven't tried it yet...

PS. Nope, FreePop doesn't do it!

  • Deleting Messages from Pop Server

I downloaded the new software and now my phone is deleting messages from the server when I delete the message from my phone. I checked the phone settings and it was set on "never" under deleting from server. Is this a bug in the new software. Is there a fix?

    Wjosten,
    Thanks for your continued responses.
How old is the info you got regarding Earthlink settings? I went through both my account settings, and my Webmail settings, and could not find the exact settings below. In fact, this seems to be more of a setting when you set up a desktop mail client (e.g. Part of Outlook setup). See here for an example: http://support.earthlink.net/articles/email/setting-up-outlook-2007-to-send-and- receive-email.php (it is on the last screenshot)
Regardless, I only use the webmail, and I thought that if I delete mail on the iPhone, then the setting on the iPhone to delete mail from the server should do that.
Any thoughts on whether there is something buggy with the iPhone? I had another strange iPhone problem which was fixed by deleting the acccount, logging into Gmail and recreating the account. The problem was that Gmail on the iPhone would let me send new mail, but if I tried to Reply to a message, it would not work and the error was that there was no password!

  • Phone not deleting messages from the server

Please help! My Blackberry Curve 9360 is not deleting messages from the server meaning that, after returning home from a week working away, i've still got a few hundred messages to wade through on my PC.
I receive e-mails on the PC via Outlook Express. I've clicked on 'tools', 'accounts' then 'advanced' to ensure that the box for 'leave a copy of the message on the server' is unchecked i.e. messages sould be being deleted from the server when prompted to by the phone but this is not happening. Not sure what else to try or perhaps there was something i did / didn't do during the set-up of the phone.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Barry.

    Hello,
    Please check this KB:
KB05133 Email reconciliation features for the BlackBerry Internet Service
All reconciliation capabilities between your BB and your email SERVER are governed by that KB. So, even if you set the other settings (e.g., "Delete On") correctly, they will be irrelevant if your email service does not support it (as per that KB).
Further still, reconciliation between your email SERVER and your PC CLIENT software are something completely separate. Only in a very few circumstances (e.g., IMAP) does (for instance) Outlook reconcile items deleted at the Server down to the PC Client.
    Good luck!

  • How to delete messages from IMAP server but keep on computer???

    Hi
I am using Mail to receive my email messages from the University's IMAP server. My problem is that I need to keep copies of my sent and received emails for archives on my computer but not on the server because space is limited. However, when I check the 'remove messages from server' box in the preferences, it also removes them all from my Mail inbox and sent mail folders. Consequently, I'm constantly needing to go to the server (once a week) and manually delete the messages when my folder is too full and then I lose all of my messages.
Can someone please tell me how I can keep all of my sent, received and trashed emails on my computer without them being stored on the server?
    thanks
    adam

Eric is right. An IMAP account is designed specifically to keep email on line, on a server somewhere on the planet. That way you can use any machine anywhere and see your email. A POP account is designed to actually download your email to the specific machine that you are using and remove it from the server. Although there are ways around that...
So if you want to keep an email on your computer and you want to delete it from the server, you have to make an "On my Mac" mailbox.

  • No way to remove deleted messages from POP server?

I've checked around, and this seems to be like a MAJOR shortcoming of Mail.
I have Mail set to leave mail on the server for one day. This way, if I boot on my Windows partition or check webmail, my recent messages are still there.
I primarily use my Mac for checking mail. I have many rules to sort my incoming (good) mail based on clients. I also get a lot of spam and unwanted mail, which mostly winds up in my junk email folder. So I delete it immediately.
My problem is that when I check the mail from other sources, such as webmail, I have to deal with the SAME junk messages all over again.
When I used to use Entourage and other clients, there was a preference to remove messages from server when they are trashed on the local mac. Mail does not seem to have this handy feature.
There is an option to delete mail moved from the inbox, but due to my sorting rules most of my good mail is removed from the inbox (and into client-specific folders). Also, some mail is move into junk incorrectly, and therefore moved back to my inbox by me. So this option will not work for me.
This is making it hard to use mail as part of a multi-machine/platform workflow. I like it otherwise, but it seems pretty lacking in this respect, and I am disappointed with it.
    Any ideas?

What you're asking for isn't possible, not even with Entourage. You already set Mail to keep your messages for one day on the server after you retrieve them. But then you say you want it to delete them when you trash them on your Mac. Unless you are connected to your webmail server, how would you expect the server to magically discover that you've trashed something? Not even Entourage can do that; you had to have been connected to a mail server at all times in order for Entourage or any other mail client to do what you claim.
If you don't want to deal with seeing the same messages again, then you need to set Mail to delete the messages from the server as soon as it retrieves them.

  • Apple mail won't stop deleting messages from Gmail server

    Hello everyone:
For a long time I had my mail set up to delete messages from the gmail server, but recently I changed my mind. I tried changing the settings to remove copy after a month and nothing happened, i.e. immediately deleted messages from server. Now I've tried changing it to never remove a copy and it is still doing it. What am I missing?

I should say: it does leave a copy in "all mail" but deletes it from the inbox section so they are unavailable on my iPhone as soon as my laptop grabs it....

  • IMAP and deleting messages from the server

Anyone else trying to use IMAP in the default mail app and seeing that messages deleted locally are not removed from the server?
I found a lot of posts about this issue on older Android versions and devices, but nothing for the Bionic yet.
And unlike for POP accounts, there is not an option in the settings to turn this on. IMAP is all about keeping messages and folders in sync between multiple clients, so this is an annoying bug.
I have been using K-9 as a work around, but I'd rather not use two different mail programs, and don't like the look/feel of K9 as much either.

    DCZim,
Are you using IMAP or POP?  Also, are you using a popular public IMAP service like GMail, MSN, etc. that can be "auto configured" without having to manually enter the server name?
Per Google the IMAP bug (which has been fixed some time ago in the Android Mail app but not yet in Motorola's Blur mail app) is triggered by visiting the incoming server settings for the account.
IMAP's entire purpose it to keep everything in sync between multiple devices/clients.  If you want to delete messages on your phone without deleting them from the server, you should use POP3 instead of IMAP and ensure you have the client configured to NOT remove messages from the server when deleted locally and to always "leave a copy of message on the server".  This is a general concept of POP3, nothing specific to the Bionic, Blur, or Android.

  • Mail App deleting messages from .Mac server

    Hi
I haven't seen this issue on this board. Let me know if I'm wrong.
This is on the interaction between my .Mac email account and the Mail Application. I have two email accounts set up.
I have 2 computers and keep my mail on one, so I kept my previous (Eudora) mail apps set to "leave mail on server" on the other.
I don't see a setting for this for my .Mac email account in Mail.app. When I check my mail with the Mail.app recently, on the computer where I don't keep my mail, it is deleting the mail from the .Mac account. I don't think it did this before. The mail is no longer on .Mac when I check via a browser.
My earthlink pop account seems to be working fine.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Whether it's correct or not depends on the
circumstances under which mail is removed from the
server. If it's because it's being moved out of the
account Inbox and into "On My Mac" custom
    mailboxes, then yes, it's correct.
For IMAP-type accounts, mail on account mailboxes are
stored on the server instead of locally (you can
configure this behavior for mailboxes other than
Inbox in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox
Behaviors). Whatever you do to that mail you're
doing it to the mail stored on the server. If you
tell Mail to move a message out of Inbox,
that's what Mail does, it moves the message out of
    Inbox at the server.
Thanks -- so if I understand this properly, the mail is stored on the inbox on the server, but if I have a rule that moves it to a mailbox that I created locally (imported from Eudora, for example) it moves it from the server to my local mailbox *not leaving a copy on the server*. I have lots of mailboxes that I use to sort the mail and rules to route messages. So to correct this issue I should disable the rules if I don't want the mail moved off the server and into a local mailbox.
Many thanks for your help and patience

  • I don't want Mozilla to delet messages from the server as soon as I download them, I want Mozilla to wait a week so I can access those messages from my phone.

There is an option for this in the settings tab. It says something to the effect of wait at least 14 days, or until I delete the message. I have checked both boxes, but Mozilla doesn't wait 14 days. It doesn't even wait 14 seconds! As soon as I download my email onto my laptop, it's gone from my phone.

  • Delete messages from server when deleted from iTouch doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
    Two questions really...
One is that with my 2nd gen iTouch I was able to set IMAP settings and it would show all of the folders (other than Inbox) that I have created on my mail account. The 4th gen iTouch doesn't seem to let me see the sub-folders.
The second is that I have my account set to delete messages from the server when they are deleted from my Inbox, but that simply doesn't work.
This is withe the iTouch 4 and OS 4.1 (8B117)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Is it possible that I have the wrong Server Port entered? I didn't fill in that field at all. I think it was filled in automatically. I guess I would have to contact my hosting company's support team to know what the server port is.

  • How to stop iOS7 Mail from deleting messages from server?

Recently I started using an iPhone 5S after over four years with an iPod Touch. The Mail app on the iPhone deletes messages from my server. I do not want it to do this, I cannot find the option to turn off in Settings, and the iOS Mail help page at Apple Support is for an older OS version. Insight and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think I figured out a workaround at least.  It appears that the "Power Nap" feature is doing the mail checking.  Although the concise descriptions of Power Nap say it "allows your Mac to do things like periodically check for new mail, calendar, and other iCloud updates" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5394?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US), it apparently doesn't just allow these actions, it does them -- regardless of your mail settings.  I suspect this is a bug.
Turning off Power Nap (in the Energy Saver panel in System Preferences) stopped the unwanted mail fetching, but unfortunately that also means that I don't get the benefit of the other activities it does, like Spotlight indexing. There are two places to turn it off, one for the "Battery" tab and one for the "Power Adapter" tab.
Since Power Nap was introduced with Mountain Lion, but I never had the problem until Mavericks, I assume that either (1) Power Nap was off by default in Mountain Lion but is on by default in Mavericks, or (2) this is another of several Mail problems introduced by Mavericks.

  • OS2 Messages program - deleting messages from server

The email client is deleting messages from the server - even though keep messages on server is "on".  This is a big issue for those of us who download messages to our pc's.

Ive been playing around with a test account.
Upon first setting up the account on the PB, I have the "keep messages on server" set to ON.  I then checked the mail and it downloaded onto the PB.- then checked the server via webmail and the messages were gone from the inbox..
I then turned the feature OFF in the PB and checked mail again.  After that, I turned  the feature back ON and the mail stayed on the server afterward.
I'm not sure why this is - but it occurred with every new account I set up on the PB.

  • How can I set up a new account without auto deleting messages on the server?

Ive got accounts on COMCAST.NET (are those imap accounts?) and when I created a user account on Thunderbird for one of them the autocreate process immedaitely started downloading messages from my server before I was able to set the "keep messages on server" flag. (Its been a few months, forgive me if I am not using the exact right option text but you get the idea.)
How can I create a Thunderbird account that will download all the message on my server (comcast.net) and leave them all there?
That's the only thing keeping me from switching to Thunderbird. Please help - comcast's online web client is not the most bug free thing in the world.
(Note, I am setting up a new win7 system, had been using OE 6 on winXP. I assume I am better off trying this than running OE in XP in a virtual window - and even if I moved my old message bases from XP I still need to create an account that won't immediately start downloading/deleting messages from my server before I can configure it not to.)
    Any help appreciated.

Comcast only offers POP accounts, and one way to set up the account and enter all the settings before it connects to the mail server, might be to do it Offline:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/991539#answer-547878
The server settings are given [http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/setting-up-thunderbird/ here], but the method is for Online account setup.

  • Outlook 2010 not deleting messages from Deleted Messages

I have Outlook 2010 standalone on a 64-bit Win Pro system.  I have settings to empty Deleted Messages at exit and to delete messages from the server when downloaded by this instance of Outlook (POP3).
BUT ... when I exit Outlook, I get the dialogue about ok to delete messages, I accept deletion, and when I restart Outlook, not only are the messages back in the Deleted Messages folder, but the messages I deleted in the last session are back in the Inbox
and Junk Email folders!  Manually emptying the Deleted Messages folder does not solve the problem.
And yes, I have checked that I have my POP3 settings in Outlook correctly set.

    Could you just check this?
In Outlook 2010 Click the File tab, Click Account Settings, Click on account settings again, Hightlight existing email account, click change, click more settings..., click Advanced tab, in Delivery section uncheck box "Leave a copy of message on the server.",
click OK, click next, after test email has been sent click close, click finish
