Deleting messages off multiple devices

Help, I am having trouble getting my mail set up how I want to.  I have had my iPhone a year and my iPad about a week.  Side note – my e-mail is a hotmail account.  Well, on my phone, whenever I check my mail on there and delete a message, and then go to a desktop computer and log in to my e-mail, the e-mail message I deleted is still there.  This wasn’t so bad when I just had the phone but I have an iPad and it does the same thing.  So, if I delete a message on my iPad and go to my iPhone, the message is still there….then I delete it from my phone and log on to a desktop, it is still there.  I want to be able to delete a message off of one device and it is off all of my e-mail accounts.  I realize this is probably a simple fix.  I would greatly appreciate any help!

The only way to have that is to be running an IMAP email account. Last time I checked, admittedly years ago, Hotmail didn't have that.

    Go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive on all but one device and add a unique email address on each device and delete the commone Apple ID email device
    If there is also an iPhone with iOS 6 associated with the Apple ID, uncheck the phone number on all but the phone.

  • How can I set it to delete messages off my server after they download?

    How can I set it to delete messages off my server after they download?

    IMAP email is server based. The messages stay on the server and just view them remotely with an email client like Thunderbird. If you want to keep a copy on your computer you need to move a copy of the email message to a folder under Local Folders. If you delete the message off the server, it is going to be gone otherwise.
    The delete from the server option is a POP email server. It does not apply with IMAP email.

  • Macmail no longer has the option to delete messages off the server

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my macmail (6.2) no longer has the option to delete messages off the server in preferences / advanced settings.
    I recently had troubles with the mailbox quota being full (ie everything stored on the server) and don't want to go in and manually delete things.
    The research I've done suggests it should be as easy as checking or unchecking a box, however it's not there where it should be .
    Help please!

    Hi therese,
    Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors. Set the Trash section to move deleted messages to the Trash Mailbox, and then to Store the deleted messages on the Server. Select how often you want deleted messages to be permanently removed from the server.
    Also, if you have stuff in the Trash, and you select some or all of it, and then go to Edit>Delete, it will ask you at that time if you want to delete it from the Server or just the Mac.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • Deleting iMessages across Multiple Devices

    I have seen multiple posts that bring up this same question, but it appears there is no solution. My question is this: What could be a workaround?
    The problem is this: I have a work Mac, a home Mac, a MacBook Pro laptop, and iPad, and iPhone. All are logged in to iCloud and turned on 24/7. (This is required because of unrelated network issues.) As we all know, when a message comes in to one device it goes out to all devices. So when a sensitive and private message comes in and I delete it immediately, it remains on all my other devices for my children and employees to see.  This is unacceptable.
    This is ridiculous. Doesn't anybody at Apple consider this as important enough to provide protection to my privacy? These complaints have been listed on this discussion board for at least four years. We need a workaround. What do other people do?
    Can iMessage be controlled perhaps by an AppleScript so that it can be turned off when I leave one location, and easily turned back on when I return?
    I have tried managing iMessage through iCloud.com, but that is not possible.
    What workarounds are possible?? There's got to be something.

    for the   Points
    The issue of how the iMessages appear on each device and what people expect and would like has been a bone of contention since the Messages beta in Lion.
    Basically they are pushed from the server (not Fetched like mail)
    They are divided/Duplicated so theta each registered device gets a copy that is uniquely for one registered device  (the Mac uses the Serial Number to Create the Auth Token).
    That copy keeps getting pushed until accepted on the device then it is deleted form the servers.
    This may mean a iMessages has been sent to the iPhone but not to a Mac that is Off line.  However if you delete it on the iPhone you cannot get the iMessages again even if one "Copy" has not left the server.
    Only while the devices are linked (one overriding Apple ID) will the iMessages be sent to Multiple devices.
    As soon as that stops so do the iMessages.
    "Syncing" is only "Display on all devices" and no more.

  • How to delete apps from multiple devices?

    I have multiple IOS devices that share a single Apple-id.  Is there a way to delete the app from all IOS devices automatically, or do I have to delete it from each device?
    Also, why do deleted APPs come back when the devices are sync'd (via cable) to my Mac?
    Brian

    Regarding your first question, I believe you have to delete them from each device --- unless you first delete the app from iTunes, then sync your i-device using iTunes.
    Regarding the second question, the key is to delete the app from iTunes on your Mac.  That would end the undesireable behavior.

    Me and my family use the same account across multiple devices. How can I make sure they do not have the ability to view my imessages and more specifically the ones connected with my phone number?

  • Messaging With Multiple Devices on the Same iTunes Account

    My husband and I each have an iPhone 4s.  We share the same iTunes account.  We have never had any problems texting.  My daughter got an iPod Touch for Christmas.  So we set it up using the same iTunes account (since I was told you can have up to 5 devices on 1 acct).  Now when any of the 3 of us send a text, it shows up on all 3 devices.  It didn't happen before with just the 2 iPhones, but after adding the touch it does with all 3.  Even if a txt is sent between the 2 iPhones, it shows up on the touch.  And everything is set to 'off' except "find my iPhone" under on the iCloud settings on both phones Any suggestions???

    Go into Settings -> Messages -> Send & Receive on the devices that your would not like to get your text messages to.
    Then remove the email addresses that you would not like to be reached on, especially the one that is the same as your Apple ID.
    Just leave the phone number there, and then the text messages should only appear on your iPhone 4s.

    You are obviously talking about a password that you need in order to delete the iCloud account since you do not delete an Apple ID on a device, you sign out of it and sign in with the new one.

  • Messages across multiple devices

    I have a MacBook Pro, an iPad and an iPhone.
    First sign of an issue;
    I send a Message from my ipad to a friend. It is received but it says that the sender is myid at yahoo.com or any number of the other "Receive At" accounts in my Settings ==>Messages. As near as I can tell it is random, but does seem to use the last one in the list most frequently.
    Second issue;
    I changed the value of my 'Apple ID' in Settings ==>Messages==>Receive At, from my @mac account to my @me account. All the additional 'Receive At' accounts are lost. Even when I switch back to the @mac account. What happened?
    Third issue;
    Regardless of which apple id I'm using (@mac or @me) I'm not able to add the other to Settings ==>Messages==>Receive At, I get the error; "Unable to verify email because it is already in use." I've attempted this on all three devices and get the same error every time.
    In general all my issues seem to stem from the question of which Apple ID to be using. But regardless of which, Apple apprently only considers eMails to be equivalent, not Messages. Yes? No? Why? When will Apple give is a way to fix all this?

    Hi,
    I send a Message from my ipad to a friend. It is received but it says that the sender is myid at yahoo.com or any number of the other "Receive At" accounts in my Settings ==>Messages. As near as I can tell it is random, but does seem to use the last one in the list most frequently.
    I do have one iPhone set up with multiple emails
    My Organic Apple ID and TheSmokeMonster calls it, the @me.com iCloud ID linked to that Apple ID and a GoogleMail ID I was trying out.
    I sent an iMessage from Messages on my Mac to the iCloud issued ID and the Phone received it and sent replies from the SAME ID despite the fact that the older organic Apple ID was set at the Caller ID.
    I am presuming new Outgoing Messages will use the Caller ID  but that incoming iMessages will stick with the ID that was called.
    Second issue;
    I changed the value of my 'Apple ID' in Settings ==>Messages==>Receive At, from my @mac account to my @me account. All the additional 'Receive At' accounts are lost. Even when I switch back to the @mac account. What happened?
    Simple.  It wipes the slate clean so to speak.
    Usnig Messages on the Mac as an Example you have to DIsable (Untick the enable this Account box) the account
    You then go to Account Details button
    In here there is a Sign Out Button.
    This removes the Apple ID you are using from Messages for the iMessges side.
    (You can actually run Messages as an iChat style only App then)
    When you type an Apple ID back in it does it afresh and will not pick up on anythning that as there before.
    (On your Mac the .plist involved is wiped clean - presumably the same happens on the iPhone or iPad)
    Hopefully an update from Apple may allow the Sync process to include listed Emails from one device to another.
    Third issue;
    Regardless of which apple id I'm using (@mac or @me) I'm not able to add the other to Settings ==>Messages==>Receive At, I get the error; "Unable to verify email because it is already in use." I've attempted this on all three devices and get the same error every time.
    You are probably getting this as you have several devices that have different settings.
    As I suggested above the ID you link on one device are not synced to the other devices.
    So if one is using the Yahoo ID and listing an @me.com ID as an alternative Contact you will get an Error if you try to set up another device the other way round as it is, as they say, "in Use".

  • For an iCloud and/or Windstream email account, how can I delete emails across multiple devices, without having to go to each device?

    I have a friend with an iCloud email account and Windstream account on both her iPad and iPhone... She's saying that when she deletes an email from one device, it doesn't delete it from the other automatically... She's using both emails through the "Mail, Contacts and Calendars" settings under the "Settings" menu; not through apps...  I've had her check both of her email account settings to make sure that the settings were consistent... I've never had this issue with Exchange or Gmail, and I don't use the iCloud email account, so I'm a little unfamiliar with what else to look at... Can someone offer some advice, please?
    Thank you for your help!

    IMAP is the mail protocol that allows you to delete a message one place and have it delete everywhere else. iCloud uses IMAP, so it should be working. If the messages never delete, then something may be incorrect in the settings. The easiest thing to do with iCloud is to logout of the account on every device, and then login again. (Another common problem with iCloud email is people often have two Apple IDs, and thus may have two iCloud email accounts. If you get confused about which one you're using, you may think you've deleted email when you actually haven't.)
    If the iCloud messages do ultimately delete across all devices, then it could be that some devices aren't set to "Push" but are instead set to "Fetch" the newest info from the server. Fetch can be set to as long as an hour between check-ins.
    The same holds true for Windstream if she's using an IMAP account there, too. If it's a POP account, then deleting a message one place will never delete it anywhere else—that's the way POP works.

  • Messages on multiple devices. Aaargh!

    So, here's my conundrum... All my incoming text messages appear on my daughers iphone and ipad. I need this to stop!
    I also receive her facetime calls on my iphone.
    I'm guessing that the obvious way is to set myself, or her, up with a new itunes account - we currently share one - but does this mean I will lose access to all the itunes purchases that I have previously made?

    iTunes has nothing to do with messages or facetime.
    All you need to do is create another AppleID for yourself (with no payment information, just a plain AppleID) and you use it for your iMessage login and your iCloud login.
    https://appleid.apple.com
    You can both keep using the existing AppleID for the iTunes and App stores so you can share purchased items, and she can keep using that same AppleID for her iMessage and iCloud.
    You will need to log out of iMessage on your devices, then log back in with the new AppleID.  You will need to disable find my iPhone/iPad on your current iCloud account, and then delete that iCloud account on your devices.  Then login to iCloud with your new AppleID.
