Deleting movies on my hard drive

I'm trying to delete things off of my macbook pro because I am quickly running out of space. When I was looking to see what was using up the most space I noticed that movies were. My hard drive said I was using 107.66 GB for movies, so I went to my movies folder and it said I was only using 21.61 GB of space. I have no videos on itunes nor in the itunes folder. I've already deleted all of the videos from iphoto and removed them from the trash. If anyone has any ideas on how I can find the other 86.05 GB please let me know.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
  1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
  2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
  3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
  4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
  5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
  6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
Be careful not to remove any video files you find that are not in your Home folder.

  • ITunes Doesn't Delete Movies From External Hard Drive

I have all of my iTunes media on an external hard drive. However, when I just tried to delete a movie (from within iTunes), it removed the movie from iTunes, but the actual mpeg file is still on my external hard drive. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or am I going to have to manually delete content from external hard drive? Thanks.

When you delete an item from your iTunes library, iTunes will give you the option to delete the file too, but *only for items that are located in your iTunes Media folder.* So, assuming your iTunes Media folder is on your local drive, what you are seeing is the correct behavior.
The best procedure in this case is to right-click the track in iTunes, choose Show in Finder, and delete the file within Finder. Then go back to iTunes and delete the track from the library.

  • Deleting Movies off my Hard Drive...

I downloaded a couple of movies from iTunes a while ago, now I'm running out of space on my hard drive I want to delete them completely. The only problem is when I go to delete the actual file it gives me a message saying:
"Cannot delete [movie]: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
Any suggestions for how I can solve this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have some large files that you know are duplicated on your backup drive, drag one to the Trash. Empty it and try to operate the OS to see whether fit responds properly to commands. Do that repeatedly until to does. Then start tp trash your movie files.
My 2¢ worth…delete render files. I  bet you free up a lot of space,

  • Can't clear deleted events from my hard drive

I guess I'm pretty new at this. I deleted a few events by hitting the delete key but my hard drive is still nearly full. I can't find them now under events or rejected clips or in my movie folder at all. I guess I need to learn how to delete them properly. But how do I now find those (now seemingly hidden) files and delete the properly?

It's not that. My trash can is empty and re-emptying it doesn't help. The files are apparently hidden from my sight so I don't know how to select them and delete. I tried to do a word search for the title, but that also brings nothing. I had 44 gigs free before this new movie event and now I have only 5 gigs free. So it's got to be somewhere.

  • How do i clear movies off my hard drive ? the storage is almost full and i can't clear it ?

how do i clear movies from the hard drive on my macbook ?

    Hi gpzjamie,
If you need to free up space on your Mac by deleting the movies you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, then please follow the directions below for help with deleting movies.
    Mac or PC
    Open iTunes.
From the Library pop-up menu, choose Movies.
Click Movies in the navigation bar.
Click the movie you want to delete.
    Press Delete on your keyboard.
In iTunes 11 or later, the movie cover art will remain visible, but a Download  icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).

  • I need to move my old hard drive files to our new computer, how?

Hey I need to move my old hard drive files to our new computer. It is a SATA 3.5. Is it as simple as putting it in an enclosure and plugging it to new computer.
Can I do this at the start with the IMAC? I don't have the old computer, just the drive.

  • Will my files i saved using time machine still exist if i delete from my computers hard drive?

I recently had a problem with my computer. I bought an external hard drive and used time machine to back up my 15in mac book pro before sending in for repair.
I have gotten my computer back and needed to delete files from the hard drive on the computer ( close to capacity). Was I safe to do so knowing that everything is saved on my external?
My concern is that if I plug in the external hard drive it will now see those files have been deleted from my computer and delete from the external as well.
    -David

Just wanted to add to this conversation - Time Machine will keep copies of your files for some time.  It is a backup system, after all.  Deleting the files from your main hard drive will not cause Time Machine to go and delete them from your backups.
However, eventually, Time Machine is likely to run out of space on your hard drive, and it then does some cleaning up so it can continue working.  A file that is not on your hard drive will not exist on your Time Machine backup forever.  Eventually it will be deleted to make room for more recent backups.  I can't predict how long this will take, but if you have bought a 1TB or so drive for your Time Machine backups, I would suggest that you might be able to keep some months of backups online - after that, old files that you no longer have on your Macbook Pro will be cleaned away.
So Glenn is spot on - if you want an archive copy of those files, you should make a separate backup - Time Machine does not keep your files forever!
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. I had to re-rip them. How can I stop this from happening?

iTunes Match deleted songs from my hard drive. How can I prevent this from happening if I try it again?

iTunes Match can in no way be considered a backup service, this is due to the inexact nature of the 'matching process' (see https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4112, for more detail).
Loss of files from a Disk is certainly possible through media failure.  However, the extent of iTunes Match capacity is solely to influence the content of the cloud.  Perhaps there was a coincident, or pre-existing, failure of the disk which was simply exposed by the iTunes Match interrogation of the disk content.
There are certainly other services which depending upon your goal may work well.  For example, Google Play with gBeats IOS App works very well.  My use of Match is to synchronise across several computers and to drive Apple TV and an IOS device - other IOS devices still use sync for specific music and are complimented by gBeats for access to the full library when local mobile signal strength is high.
The strong advice to always start with a secure backup remains but if your primary concern is iTunes Match interfering with physical disk content you can relax - it simply does not have this ability.  (Apology to Sherlock, further investigation required).

  • DELETING FILES PERMAMNENTLY FROM HARD DRIVE AND PASSWORD PROTECTING

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO PERMANENTLY DELETE FILES FROM THE HARD DRIVE? ALSO, WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO ADD A PASSWORD TO A FOLDER?
    THANKS!

#1) Please check your caps lock key which seems to be on and many perceive as shouting your questions.
#2) Use secure empty trash when you want secure deleting.
#3) There isn't a folder password feature. There's a utility which will let you hide folders with a password, but that is easily circumvented. Then there's making password protected, encrypted image files. The second is very secure but it isn't a folder, it appears as a new volume on your desktop.

  • How do I save a web movie onto my hard drive with qt pro

w do I save a web movie onto my hard drive with qt pro

    Let the file completely download.
Depending on the play controller you'll either see a downward pointing arrow at the right end (click it to save a copy) or no downward pointing arrow (in which case you right click on the player window).

  • Restoring deleted photos from lightroom hard drive

If my photos were deleted from my lightroom hard drive, what is the best method to re-import or restore my "back up photos" back into my drive and original catalog?

I think it would depend on your catalog back ups and how the photos were deleted and how many.
If you have a back-up of the catalog before the files were deleted and it was your entire photographic catalog which was large is size , then you can do as DJ suggested.  It would probably be the fastest way.  After the photos are restored to their original location, you may have to go to File>Import from another catalog,  and then choose the folder location of your backups and select the most recent.
If you are speaking of just a few photos, or maybe just one folder, you can simply restore the files on your PC or MAC, and re-import using Add.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get my quicktime to play movies after my hard drive was accidently removed?

I accidently removed my hard drive when playing a video from it and all of a sudden now I cannot play any videos from the hard drive or my computer using the quicktime player! I have an older mac with OS X 10.4 I do not know if that is relevant? I tried to play another video from my hard drive and computer and it is not working either! I am really upset as I have a lot of home videos from trips etc that I hope have not been damaged from the removal of the external hard drive.

It is also saying when I try to play videos from my computer that there is a  I/O error. When I try to play movies from the hard drive it is saying 'This file is not a movie file."
