Deleting music in ios8

Hi All. Just updated to ios 8 and not able to delete music off of our 2 iphone 5c's, or 2 ipad mini's.  Tried songs individually and through settings - (general<usage<manage storage).  Music app isn't even listed under "storage".  Any ideas?

Wow. I have Music under Manage Storage, but when I touch it (on both iPhone 5 and new iPod touch) Settings crashes completely.

  • Question about managing itunes match music in ios8

In ios7 I was able to keep track of how much music was being downloaded via itunes match as it streamed from my phone, and I could see how much space was being used as I listen to music.  I'm not seeing the same ability in ios8 - I assume all the music I "stream" that gets downloaded to my device but isn't showing up in music usage is going into "other" - but I don't see a way to determine how much space this is actually using on my phone other than guessing by how many gigs "other" uses when I connect to itunes.  But I don't see a way to see this directly on my phone.  Neither by looking at how much space is left on my phone (this doesn't seem to update by playing itunes match music), or my looking at the actual music files on my phone, which are only showing songs that I physically downloaded vs. playing from the cloud.
Also, can I delete all the music on my phone that is stored from playing on itunes match but I didn't actually hit the download button for?  In ios7 I was able to have the cached music automatically go away by turning itunes match off - I got mixed results when I did this yesterday and had to reformat my phone to clear out the "other" space - and I"m just guessing at this point that this is why my other got so large.
Any clarity around how this is handled in ios8 vs ios7 would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there.
I have the same problem, and its annoying. In iOS7 I was able to delete all the music that i played via streaming, and I play music like that 98% of yhe time. In iOS 8 i can only delete music that I have explicitly download but the streamed one seems to be hide.
The only solution to this, that is a waste of time is to turn of "show all music", see which music is already downloaded, downloads manually and the erase it.
Hope Apple release and update to fix this problems

  • How can I delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7) when I manually manage the music in iTunes, but it has no affect on my phone's music library?

I'm attempting to delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7). When I connect it to iTunes, and the music shows up, I delete the music from the phone. When I disconnect the phone, the music is still there. The same thing happens if I try to sync the phone before disconnecting. I have "manually manage music" checked. Additionally, when I reconnect my iPhone, the music I "deleted" from it when it was previously connected to iTunes no longer appears, preventing me from trying to delete it again.
I know I can swipe left on each song to delete it on my phone, and I have been, but that takes a long time when you're trying to delete everything on your iPhone.
    Suggestions?

    Hello Salmomma,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to connect your iPhone to your Mac.  I recommend following the steps in the tutorial below for an issue like this:
    iPhone not appearing in iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
Additionally, you can delete music directly from the iPhone by swiping the song:
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.

  • Just downloaded ios7 and my phone wont let me delete music off of it

my phone isnt letting me delete music off of it

    Hey jan131,
Thanks for the question. With iOS 7, you can delete a song by doing the following:
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
via page 62 of the iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Please note that if you have "Show All Music" enabled in Settings > iTunes & App Store, the above will delete the song from your device, but it will still appear available (with a cloud symbol to re-download).
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Cannot delete music from ipod touch, tried everything suggested thus far.

I have tried several suggestions up to this point and nothing has worked. It is my understanding that everything in My Music, (on my PC) transfers to the iTunes program, either manually or automaticlly. It is also my understanding that if I add or delete music from iTunes, that it will automatically be added or deleted on my iPod Touch, (4th gen). Well, none of this has proven to be true...at best, it is sporatic and frustrating. Any new ideas out there?

    Buy doing what?...
You need to be more specific about what you are trying. "I've tried several suggestions" tells us nothing. You've tried my suggestion (but I made two - dependant upon what you are doing), but you haven't told me how you are managing your iPod, are you using Sync or manually managing? Without that knowledge, everything else is meaningless.
If you are using Sync, and you have selected *Sync only ticked songs and videos,* then un-ticking a song and then performing a Sync will remove the song. So what are you doing?

  • I have limited storage laptop, I want to delete music from hard-disk

I have a limited storage laptop, I want to delete music from hard-disk and just leave it on my 60Gb ipod, BUT I dont want to have to log in as a guest every time.
    Any suggestions

Follow the instructions in this article and then delete the songs from your computer; they will not be deleted from the iPod automatically. You should have or make another copy of the songs before deleting them from the computer, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • Cannot delete music from iPod nano (latest generation).  Have already selected "Manually Manage music and videos" but delete is unavailable from right click or Edit.

I have done everything I've seen recommended for deleting music (jncluding "manually manage").  Thanks for the assistance!!!

Did you Apply the change after selecting (checking the box for) Manually manage music and videos?
With the latest iTunes, if the sidebar is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, select the iPod under DEVICES.  Click the toggle (to the left of iPod) to drop down the iPod's content list, indented under iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  You can select songs there, right click on them, and select Delete from the contextual menu.  You can also select songs there, go up to the menu bar, and select Delete under Edit.  You can also select songs there, and just press the Delete key on the keyboard.
If you want to use automatic syncing, which is far more convenient than the manual method, and easily manage content on the iPod (add and remove songs), please post back.

  • How can I delete music from my iPad Air other than by one song at a time? I am still on iOS 7.

How can I delete music from my iPad Air other than one song at a time? I would like to delete a few albums.  I am still on iOS 7.

You can either sync the iPhone and iPad to a computer that has your music on it and make sure the U2 album is not on the computer. Or you can delete all of the music from both devices (settings > general > usage > manage storage > music. Then redownload your music from your purchase history on the iTunes store
Also the U2 album is attached to your apple id. To remove it, you will need to go here ---> https://itunes.com/soi-remove

  • How do I stop itunes from also deleting music from my iphone or ipad when I delete it on itunes on my macbook pro?

I noticed that when I delete music or a movie from my macbook pro's itunes, the minute I connect the iphone or ipad, it automaticly removes the song from the devices. I am new to Mac so I am not sure how to prevent this from occuring. I know that when I was using my Windows PC to sync my devices, on the PC's itunes I could set it up to where I would be able to add or delete music to the devised manually without this worry. If anyone can offer me some help, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

  • How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read below that you can't. Really? Is that correct?

How do I delete music and photos from my iCloud account? I've read that you can't. Really? Is that true?

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod.  My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway.  Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store.  What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to.  You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases.  If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All.  LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

  • ITunes will not allow me to delete music off of my iPhone, is there a way to fix this?

I just updated my hard drive, and haven't synced my phone to my laptop in a while because it wasn't working until now. Now, I'm trying to delete music off of my phone/generally manage it but when I left click on a song it only gives me about 4 options, none of them are delete.

To delete a track from your phone (you are in the 'on my device' music section ?) then just select/highlight the track and press the delete button on your keyboard.

  • How do i delet music from my iTunes account?

How do I delete music from my iTunes account?

    Hello tadjellis,
It sounds like you have purchases in your iTunes library you no longer want or want to see. You can hide the purchases with your iTunes account settings, and this article will help you:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4919
Use iTunes on a Mac or PC to hide or unhide your purchases.
    To hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking on Music, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from top.
Hover your cursor over the item you want to hide.
You will see an "X" either to the right or left top corner of the item.
Click the "X" to hide that item. A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the "X."
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • How do I delete music from my device on iOS 7?

In iOS 6 all you had to do was swipe to the left and the delete button would show but in iOS 7 that doesn't seem to work! I've even tried to long press like on an android phone and nothing either! I sure hope Apple didn't disable this option because it will be a major inconvenience for me to have to connect to iTunes everytime I want to delete music from my device or delete everything and redownload!
