Deleting old address in Mac OS X Mail

When I update a persons e-mail address, it shows properly in address book, but when I access it from within mail by typing in the name, i'm shown the old e-mail as well as the new one. How do I remove the old?
David

Remove the old address from the previous recipients list under 'Window' on the Mail menubar.

  • How can I delete old addresses from the automatic fill?

I set up a new account on a G4 PowerMac with 10.3.9 installed. This computer was being used previously by one of my other users. My question is: whenever the new user wants to send a new message and she types in the address she needs to use, it is set to automatically fill the address. All of the old user's addresses still appear as choices. How do I delete all the old addresses? I've already deleted all the old addresses from the address book. But they still appear in the automatic fill. Is there a cache somewhere to empty?

  • Address change/Deleting old address??

I am having a problem deleting the "old" address when I have entered the new changed address in the Address Book. Even though the old address does not show as a card in Address Book, when entering the address for the recipient in mail, the "old" address pops in.
How do I remove all the old addresses?

In Mail, go to Window->Previous Recipients and delete the old address.

  • How to delete old addresses

Hello, I have had a good bit of time spent on this today, and with alot of input from paypal (to no avail) I have sorted it for myself. If you have loads of old addresses that are now redundant, this is how you get rid of them (its probably a bit long winded, but it is the ONLY way I have found to do it, not even 3 service representatives could do it.....). I will take you through baby steps (stick with me), its a bit odd, but it works. 1. When you have logged into paypal, click on the gear cog (near the log out button)2. Your name then appears in big letters on the middle-ish of the page3. Next to my name, it says "edit"4. Click edit.5. It will ask you if you want to change your name, click cancel6. It will then take you to a more in-depth "My Profile" page7. Third option down will be, "address" (Name, email, address). You can then see all your previous address and remove as necessary.8. Ta-dah! It should now be only the addresses you wish to keep I know its convoluted, but it worked for me. Good luck!!

Hi, I have a little more info on this topic that I'd like to share.  I thought I had deleted all the old addresses a few months ago -- my current address was the only one that showed up on the main profile page.  Today, I used PayPal to make a purchase online, and it changed the shipping address to one of the addresses I thought I had removed! I found your post, and found the secret profile page.  It still showed 11 addresses, but I got an error when I tried to delete anything, so I called Customer Support.  After fighting with the automated system for a while, I finally got a person and explained it to her, including how to find the secret page.  It took her a while, but she was able to delete all the old addresses!  Much happiness and cheering ensued. So the moral of the story is that, if you can't delete them yourself, MAYBE an informed Customer Service person can do it.

  • Deleting old attachments in mac mail

i have multiple email accounts and receive hundreds of emails everyday. a lot of the emails contain attachments which i don't really need to keep. how do i free up space in my hard drive by removing attachments of the emails already in my computer? i've tried highlighting the hundreds of emails and then clicking "remove attachments" but it doesn't seem to work. what's weird is that i start seeing outgoing and incoming mails as pop ups.

I've found that in Mtn Lion (v. 10.8.5 at present) when I search my hard drive for all jpeg files (just one example) a lot of the found items are not in a folder but rather show as being in Mail. While it IS possible to delete the jpeg manually from the hard drive, freeing up many GBs of space, I would prefer not to have them on my hard drive in the first place. Some of these attachments are from POP mailboxes, not IMAP. I do know how to stop the storage with my IMAP accounts, just not with the POP ones.
If I can't stop the POP attachments from being automatically stored, I'd like to be abie to open their location on the hard drive and delete them as a group, rather than one at a time. I'm fairly sure I've read somewhere how to access the innards of an app but for the life of me I can't remember how. I've tried every key-command combination I can think of but nothing takes me to the "folder" in which the attachments are stored. Is this even possible?

  • IWEB does not delete old pages on  .mac account when changes are made.

I deleted one "movie" page and added a different one via IWEB. I changed the name of the site. I saved it to a folder on my drive and updated the .mac account.
When I checked my .mac folder, WEB>Sites>IWeb contains a folder with the new site name. That folder contains each of the pages and associated folders, html's.
However, using a previously saved .html, I can still access the old named web site which contains the un-desired deleted page. That deleted page and the entire site funtion as though it was never removed.
This "removed site" and all its pages does not appear any place in the .mac account's file listings.
What is happening that I can't remove a page using the procedure listed in the IWEB documentation?
    Anyone have any thoughts?

However, using a previously saved .html, I can still
access the old named web site which contains the
    un-desired deleted page.
Was the old site also produced by iWeb? Why are you "saving to a folder on your drive and updating the .mac account" instead of publishing directly into .Mac?
    That deleted page and the
entire site funtion as though it was never removed.
This "removed site" and all its pages does not appear
any place in the .mac account's file listings.
Are you sure they are not in the Sites folder used by Homepage? What is the url?
If they really are not anywhere on your iDisk, then perhaps they are being cached somewhere and will eventually disappear.

  • Changing reply to address in .mac account on Mail

I use Mail with .mac for email. However, for work I have a company domain name/email address which is forwarded automatically to my .mac address/account. I want to be able to send messages where the "from" and "reply to" addresses are [email protected], not [email protected] Can anyone help me set this up please?
Hope I've expressed the problem clearly, with many thanks
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    I have a similar problem.
I purchased a domain name (we shall call it mycompany.com) and the service includes e-mail forwarding. So, anything sent to [email protected], will in fact fo to [email protected]
What I would like to do is to reply and for the reciever to actually see [email protected], instead of [email protected]
To me, the solution was very simple as to go to account information in Mail and change the e-mail address to [email protected] As it turns out, it is not as simple as I thought. Everytime I try to reply to a message with this settings, I get an error message asking me to choose an SMTP server from the list, and even after choosing the right one, the mail wont be sent.
Now, the weirdest part of all this is that with my previous ISP I used to be able to send e-mails with [email protected] with no problems at all! It worked like a charm and never had the SMTP issue.
I changed ISPs because the Cable service was getting too expensive and the tech support is horrible. Now I use DSL and everything seems to work nice, except for this little bump.
So, do you think this had something to do with Mail or is my new ISP's deal?
    Thanks for your time guys!

  • How to delete old addresses that appear in auto complete list in iMessage

    Mavericks 10.9.1
    iMessage Version 8.0 (4218)
    MBP Late 2011
When typing in the name of a contact I want to message, a list of addresses appears as an auto-complete/auto-fill list.
One address is no longer used and I would like to delete that particular address.
The address is not on the contact card.
I'm sending a message via iMessage to another iMessage verified address on an Apple device(s).
My iCloud contacts are synced correctly with iphone/ipad/MBP.
    Thanks

First, search Contacts to make sure the address doesn't appear on any card. If it doesn't, continue.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • How do I delete old addresses out of maps on my iPhone6?

There's a long list of addresses in my maps app that I'd really love to get rid of, but see no way to do it. Am I stuck going through this list of addresses every time I use maps? Is there seriously no way to delete them? I have an iPhone 6 running the latest operating system.
    Thanks,
    Darlee

On my 5s the following works: Open Maps, tap in the search/address field, tap "Favorites" then tap "Recents" at the bottom and Clear at the top.

  • My address book on my laptop will not delete old addresses and willl not accept new addresses how do I fix that?

I did receive a fix some time ago from a generous person but due to my age 75 the answer was Greek to me. So the problem still stands - could the instructions be posted once again?

  • Mail 2.1--remove old addresses?

Using Mail 2.1...how can I delete old addresses from the cache? For example, if "[email protected]" has changed his address to "[email protected]", both addressed still appear in the auto-fill-in list if I type "c..." I'd like to able to delete the old one and other addresses that I no longer use. I can easily reset Safari, but I don't see what I need under Mail Preferences.

Doesn’t typing remove old address (or remove address, or just address) in Mail Help’s search box return any useful information?

  • Deleting old mail contacts

I have old email contacts in the phone that I no longer use. They are not in my contacts but are people I have emailed before. Is there a way to delete these people from my iphone's mail?

    I have that problem
and my main concern is when a contacts Email address changes,
Mail still prompts with the previous deleted Email addresses.
This gradually makes Mail more difficult to use.
Mail needs a memory reset capability!

  • Unable to Delete OLD (prior to 2009) Addresses from the Previous Recipients List using ANY Method

How do I delete OLD addresses in the "Previous Recipients List? I am unable to delete OLD addresses (last used years, 2007 & 2008) using the button "Remove From List" or clicking on the address when it is displayed in Mail & selecting "Remove from Previous Reciopients List."

Solved:  When composing an email and beginning to type an email address, you are prompted with autofillins.  There is a small x to the right of the name.  If you wish to delete the autofillin, then click on the x and Yahoo will remove it from the options in the future.

  • Deleting email addresses recommended by mail on an iPad or iphone

How do I delete email addresses showing as recent in mail when I start to type in to the To..this is on my iPad and iPhone.  Many are a long time ago...they seem to collect forever.  Is there a way to delete these other than one by one when they show up as I type in the To on an email?  Better yet, is there a way to turn this off so that the suggestions are only based on what I have in my contacts?

You can get rid of them, but you do have to do it one at a time as the come up. You can keep scrolling down through the suggestions and delete a bunch in one sitting, as long as they come up in the suggestions.
You can only do this with email addresses that have the "I" to the right. That means that they are not in your contacts. Contacts have to be deleted in the contacts app.
To get rid of the unwanted Recents, tap the blue "I" to the right of the email adress. In the next window you can tap on Remove From Recents to delete them.
