Deleting Old Corrupt iPhone Backup Folder - Which One Do I Delete

I am getting the message "iTunes can not backup the iPhone, because the backup was corrupt, or not compatible with the iPhone" whenever i try to backup my iPhone 5s. I have been getting this message since around the end of May 2014 after updating my iOS to 7.1.2.
I have seen a couple of posts about how to go about deleting an old backup already. After some time, I figured out where to locate the iPhone backups in their original location, because they did not show up in my devices tab through iTunes. I have already located the files under:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
So I did manage to get this far, but now I have come across a handful of folders that are full of files, all named with a bunch of alphanumeric characters. There are some backups of devices that I do not need to delete, that I don't have physical access to some of the devices at the moment to just delete all of the backup folders and re-backup afterwards.
My main question is, "How can I tell which backup corresponds to the iPhone having trouble, so I do not delete another backup that I do not wish to lose?"
If it helps, I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3.1 (2).
Please help ASAP, and THANK YOU in advance!!

First, if you don't have iExplorer yet, you should download it here. Then install it. After installing it open the iExplorer. It is not necessary to plug your device in. Then click the "Browse Local iTunes Backups".
After clicking it, go to the "Browse iTunes Backup" directory. It will show you the list of backup folders on your computer with a readable folder name i.e. the names of each devices that has backup files on your computer. From there you can now identify which backup folder is yours.

Can I change an old 3GS Iphone to a new one in the apple store in Germany?

If you sell your 3GS prior to visiting the store, you can use the money gained against the cost of a new iPhone.
Apple won't just change it for you, just like any other shop won't just change any old product for a new one.

  • Iphone backup (more then one)

ok i think my backup is corrupt, now i can delete it and make a new one then itunes will add to that one right? well thats what i think is corrupting my backup (when new info is added to current backup.. how do i tell itunes to make a new backup without me deleting the other one? thnx ....

That's crappy, but your right it verywell could be my phone. setting up as new is kinda what I'm trying to avoid. That's what I had to do last time when all my Info was wrong after the first restore, that was a restore from backup and it was corrupt so I restored as new. I got lots of data, logins, and app creds.it'll take forever to put all that back in the phone. My phone is fine now but that don't last forever, if I remember correctly in previous Versions of iTunes, u could have more then one backup.
Seeing how I already restored as new and not from backup I don't even kno if the current backup is corrupt but I would like choice of two backups.
    Thnx for your input wjosten

  • HT1349 How do you get help from apple if you don't know where to find the serial number of my "product."  I don't know if they mean my itunes program, my iphone, my computer, which one, the number on the computer (is there one), or something in Windows or

How are you supposed to get help from Apple if you don't know what your serial number is?  They say to input the serial number of the "product" that you are asking about.  Since my problem is how to deauthorize/authorize computers, and they are saying I have more than 5 (which I have never owned more than 5 computers in my life), I can't imagine what serial number they mean.  Does it mean your desktop computer?  If so, which one?  Do they mean your device?  LIke your iPhone, iPod or whatever?  Do they mean the software ON one of your computers and/or devices?  If so, which program, and on which computer/device?
We have three operational computers, one does not have iTunes on it.  Since Apple is saying I have more than 5 authorized computers, and I can't imagine what they are, I am afraid to deauthorize all my computers.  See what I mean?  I just wanted to ask the question about how I can find out WHICH computers Apple thinks I have authorized, so I can decide if it's safe to deauthorize them all or not.  I only know of 2 computers that have iTunes on them, so how can there be 5?  We also have 2 iPhones and 2 iPods in this family, but one of the iPhones has his own apple id.  He may have been using mine, since his computer died.  I read that those don't count as "computers" to the 5.  Do they, then?
Help!  I can't contact apple because I have no idea what they mean about serial number.  I doubt they would help me anyway.  In order to get the serial number off my desktop computer (that has iTunes on it already), I will have to move furniture, so I don't want to if that's not it.  Is there some way to find the serial number in the software, either on my desktop or my iPhone?

You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. Apple's system would see that as a different computer, even though you don't. There's nothing to be afraid of in deauthorizing everything and the reauthorizing what you actually have. You won't lose any data. Mistimp is correct, they can't tell you which computers are authorized.

  • I cannot find corrupt iPhone backup file on my computer to delete it.

I have an iPhone 5s. It backed up to my computer (Mac) just fine until I got a new computer. I loaded all my backed up files onto the new computer (also a mac), from my airport extreme computer backup (also a mac product) and the next time I went to backup my iphone, it clearly says in the itunes window (where it would usually tell you your last backup date) that this phone had NEVER been backed up up on this computer. That would be fine with me and I would gladly create a new backup from what was on my phone currently except....When I click the backup button, it gives me the "could not back up the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. Delete the back up for this iphone, then try again" error message. I have followed every instruction of how to go about deleting these backups. I deleted every iPhone related backup through iTunes. Then I tried to find the files on the computer's hard drive outside of iTunes, but I swear there is no MobileSync folder on my computer. At least it's not at the path that is always given in every suggested solution.
I did create a separate user account (on the same computer) and was able to backup my phone through that. I don't know what that means, if anything, but I'd like my iphone to work with MY user account...
I've had a really difficult time finding the answer to this question online, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

i have figured it out, what you have to do is to restore your phone back to factory settings:
http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yBBiMy3Y6Q - youtube video to show you how incase you dont know
and then set up your phone as a NEW IPHONE instead of using iCloud
then plug it into iTunes - then i clicked on the iCloud thing to restore my new phone,   and it should work, mine does hope this helps

  • Moving iPhone backup folder to different computer

I would like to sync my iPhone 4 to my MacPro tower rather than sync it to my MacBook Pro. I was wondering if its as simple as just putting the users>my account> Library> Mobile Sync folder onto my MacPro Tower. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

It is not that simple and there is no need or reason to transfer the iPhone's backup from one computer to another that you now use to sync your iPhone with.
You can manually create a backup with iTunes without syncing - with your iPhone connected and without syncing, control-click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back up. iTunes creates a backup for each iPhone or iOS device that is synced with iTunes which is updated automatically as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
What you need to transfer is your iTunes library from your MBP to your MacPro Tower. Copy the iTunes named folder in your Music folder on your MBP and with iTunes quit on your MacPro Tower, place the iTunes folder in your Music folder. This will replace the existing iTunes folder in your Music folder and your existing iTunes library on your MacPro Tower. Your MacPro Tower also needs to be authorized with the same iTunes account as your MBP.
If you have some content in your iTunes library on the MacPro Tower that you don't want to lose, you can selective export music, movies, tv shows from your iTunes library on your MBP for import with your iTunes library on your MacPro Tower.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only including 3rd party apps. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If you don't transfer your entire iTunes library from your MBP - the iTunes named folder, all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your MacPro Tower.

  • Font folder: which one does Photoshop use?

Switching from PC to my first Mac (new 27" iMac).  I need to copy my Windows font folder over to the Mac for use by Photoshop CS6, but not sure which font folder to put it in.  I understand there are 2 Library folders, each with their own font book?  is that correct?    "Mac-speak" is  still a foreign language to me ;o)

There are two Library folders. One is at root level (you see it when you click on the Macintosh HD folder) and the other is in your drive space. Anything placed in your Library folder can only be accessed by you while anything placed in the root Library folder can be accessed by any user.
It is a good rule of thumb to place items only in your own Library folder and to leave the root Library alone - at least until you have some Mac experience behind you. Should you place something in your own library folder that chokes the computer it would still be possible to log into another account on the computer (assuming you had one - and it is a good idea to have one) but if you put something into the root Library that made the computer choke it might not be possible to (easily) fix the problem.

  • RMAN backup problems, which one first?

Oracle 11g on Windows 2008Std I've inherited. It has a nightly backup job set in Ent Mgr, the Oracle-suggested disk backup, script:
    allocate channel oem_disk_backup device type disk;
    recover copy of database with tag 'ORA\$OEM_LEVEL_0';
    backup incremental level 1 cumulative copies=1 for recover of copy with tag 'ORA\$OEM_LEVEL_0' database;
The backup fails every night with log:

I see the space limit error. The database is defined with flash_recovery_area 2GB. So I should just enlarge the flash_recovery_area to make the backup work. BUT the real puzzler before I go making changes is, this database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode. What I find in the books say don't do incremental backups in NOARCHIVELOG mode; and don't do NOARCHIVELOG unless you don't care much about being able to recover your data. So, not being able to ask the guy who set this up, "Why is it NOARCHIVELOG, especially when set for incremental backups, I pose these here:
    1. Switch to ARCHIVELOG?
    2. Enlarge flash_recovery_area to get these backups working first?

You can do incremental backups in noarchivelog mode - it's just that the database must be in mount mode. But I agree - unless the data is not important (and if you are taking backups then it seems to be important) I would have the database in archivelog mode.

  • Is it ok to delete old iphone backups

i have the latest backup for my phone and my wife's phone in itunes, prefs, devices. i also see one each from when we got our new phones on jan 5. is it okay to delete the jan 5 backup files now that i have a newer backup? is there a good reason to keep them? also, in finder, itunes, i have previous itunes libraries from 2009 to 2011, do i need these? what will happen if i delete them? thanks.

The manual iTunes backup process for my iPhone and iPad has stored multiple manual backups in my laptop's MobileSync backup folder. I thought iTunes only stored the most recent one backup. There are multiple files for each backup date and multiple backups going back for months. The iPhone backup folder has over 1.2GB of files in it. The iPad folder has .5GB of files in it. I have two questions:
    1.     Why is iTunes creating more than ONE backup for my iPhone?
    2.     Is it  OK to delete the ALL of the older backup files (prior to the most recent backup date)?

  • Use old iPhones to buy new ones

    Hi,
My name is Fernanda and I'm from Brazil.
I saw some pages saying that we can use our old/used iPhones to buy new ones with some descount.
I want to know if this is true and how does it works? Can I use my iPhone 5s from Brazil as a descount on a new iPhone 6 Plus in the US?
I'm going to the US at the begining of 2015, so if you could answer me I would be really gratefull.
Sorry if I wrote something wrong or not so formal, it's been quite a longe time that I don't write in English.
    Thank you,
    Fernanda.

Where did you see this? Apple does NOT do trade ins. They might give you some money as part of a recycling initiative which you can then use towards the purchase of a new phone.

I spend as much time in the US as in the UK, yet my Adobe account happens to be registered in the UK where the price for CC is 25-30% higher than in the US.  Since it's a pure digital product, this feels like a rip-off and I just won't stand for it.
