Deleting Old Drivers. Driver's Folder

Where can I find the driver's folder or folders in the Mac OSX leopard? I want to delete some old drivers and I just can't find the folder.
Thanks

I just noticed I have 2.76 GB of drivers in /library/printers.
Is there any downside with deleting most of these, especially for printer brands I doubt I will ever use?

  • I updated from 2.0 to 3.1 - Delete old drivers?

    Hello,
I updated from 2.0 to 2.1 to 3.0 to 3.1 as the updates came out.
I recently went to "Change/Remove programs" on my Windows system and noticed that all of the old drivers (4 copies of each driver), the newest to the oldest, are all there. Is it alright to remove the older drivers, as they are likely just taking up space. Or should I leave them? Are the updates just amendments to the previous versions?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Deleting Old Corrupt iPhone Backup Folder - Which One Do I Delete

I am getting the message "iTunes can not backup the iPhone, because the backup was corrupt, or not compatible with the iPhone" whenever i try to backup my iPhone 5s. I have been getting this message since around the end of May 2014 after updating my iOS to 7.1.2.
I have seen a couple of posts about how to go about deleting an old backup already. After some time, I figured out where to locate the iPhone backups in their original location, because they did not show up in my devices tab through iTunes. I have already located the files under:
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
So I did manage to get this far, but now I have come across a handful of folders that are full of files, all named with a bunch of alphanumeric characters. There are some backups of devices that I do not need to delete, that I don't have physical access to some of the devices at the moment to just delete all of the backup folders and re-backup afterwards.
My main question is, "How can I tell which backup corresponds to the iPhone having trouble, so I do not delete another backup that I do not wish to lose?"
If it helps, I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3.1 (2).
Please help ASAP, and THANK YOU in advance!!

First, if you don't have iExplorer yet, you should download it here. Then install it. After installing it open the iExplorer. It is not necessary to plug your device in. Then click the "Browse Local iTunes Backups".
After clicking it, go to the "Browse iTunes Backup" directory. It will show you the list of backup folders on your computer with a readable folder name i.e. the names of each devices that has backup files on your computer. From there you can now identify which backup folder is yours.

  • Weird one with my fx 5200 after deleting old drivers and installing from scratch.

Ok, now I got a weird question, but seems to be a problem. I have a MSI Geforce FX 5200 as seen here and I was having a few problems with my drivers, and I figured it was my video card since it would mostly happen in games with 3D acceleration. So, I used Driver Cleaner and got rid of every nVidia driver on my computer. Rebooted, and installed the latest of the MSI website (45.33) and now, when I look in my settings, I have an option for DOT?!?!?! as seen here
My question is, did I install the wrong drivers or did DOT become part of the 5200? (it's the one with only monitor out and s video out, no DVI or anything special, heatsinks and not fans)
Thanks for the info in advance.

That one is the one I have. And my board isn't supposed to have DOT on it, it's not in the Bios setup.

  • Enabled FileVault - 24hrs later it's still "Deleting old Home folder"

So last night I enabled FileVault and told it to securely erase the home folder. Now, I know it was big. I had probably around 90GB in my home folder. Had about that much available on the drive, too. It has been sitting on 'Deleting old Home Folder' since I got up this morning. I started the process about 24 hours ago. Could it really be taking this long, or has it hung? I have backups of everything, so it's not a big deal if I have to cancel it and rebuild my home folder. I just want to know how long I should wait before I throw in the towel.

If you have a 90 GB home folder, it'll take forever. (And also be INCREDIBLY unreliable-do you really need every single file encrypted with U.S. Department of Defense level security?)
I recommend you make individual encrypted disk images for the private files.
    Good luck!

  • FileVault: How long does "Deleting old Home folder" take?

Hello, guys. I'm comparing FileVault and PGP WDE. I enabled FileVault on my MBP about 16 hours ago with about 30GB in my user folder, and it's been ""Deleting old Home folder" for at least 10 hours now.
I've not been able to find any accounts of how long this is supposed to take. Has anyone actually waited 16+ hours and had the thing complete?
I understand the pros and cons of using FileVault, but am wondering if the thing is supposed to work.

I didn't have enough free space the first attempt, and FileVault warned me. I freed up some space and moved some of my personal files to an external drive, and it allowed me to continue, the second time around.
This is my first FileVault attempt -- I'm really paranoid, and have two backups, just in case it fails!
I just did a hard reset, and my machine booted up properly. Now, I'll see if it is working OK...

  • Changed disk for Time Machine -- delete old backup folder?

I got a bigger external drive for backups so I can use the smaller drive for data. I changed disk for TM in System Prefs, and all seems to be well; it's backing up to the new drive. Can I delete the previous TM backup folder on the smaller drive? Or does the new backup location need it for some kind of reference?
    Thanks!

If you change TM destinations, it will restart from the beginning (or, resume if a previous backup was started on that volume in the past for the computer in question). In other words, you are safe to delete the old backup.

  • My Lacie external hard drive will not back up on Time Machine. Says there's not enough space. This has happened with every single external I've purchased. Thought TM was supposed to delete old backups??

My Lacie External backed up on Time Machine after the first back up but now says there's not enough room. I thought TM deleted old back ups to save new versions. What am I doing wrong. This happens to me constantly. Every single external hard drive I've purchased for the MacBook Pro (5 of them) has not worked either initially or at the second back up. It either isn't formatted properly so I have to go to Genius bar to help me set up for the first back up, or after the first back up, it says there's not enough space and I have to go back to Genius Bar. Is there a way I can fix this on my own?

I just purchased 2 external hardrives. a LaCie Minimus and a G Drive. Each 1 TB. The guy at Apple told me that would provide 2 good TM backups for me. My internal HD has 750 GB capacity, of which I'm using 700 GB. Perhaps the ratio is not great enough. I do wish they would have told me this before I purchased the two Bummmmer! I even had them format and get the first back-ups going because of issues I've had in the past. I also just bought a 750 GB for photos.
So, I won't be able to buy another bigger external since I've just purchased 3. Ugh. Well, I'll just exclude some files and divide things up. Eventually, I just want my 20,000 iphotos on one of the 1TB externals, and a TM back-up on another so that iphoto will function once more. It really hates how many photos I have and is brutally punishing me for it.I seriously need to do some housecleaning!
Thanks for the advice. Just moved from US to Australia last week and was hoping to upload a few photos and the domino effect has lead me to this. Just went to Genius Bar in Perth today and they told me how to reformat drive to transfer iphoto library over, but I got stuck at trying to back-up my TM.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • HT5096 where is the administrator window when I drag the folder "Backups.backupdb" from the old hard drive on the new one?

where is the administrator window when I drag the folder "Backups.backupdb" from the old hard drive on the new one? At the moment when I try to do it, the window that appear doesn't allow me to continue. it only says "the volume has the wrong case sensitivity". thanks

Although the documentation says you can copy Time Machine backups in the Finder, it's very slow and sometimes doesn't work at all.
Launch Disk Utility, open the built-in help, and search for the term "Duplicate." Follow the instructions. All existing data on the destination volume will be erased. That shouldn't be a problem, because you don't want to mix backup and non-backup data on the same drive anyway. Turn Time Machine OFF in its preference pane while copying the volume.

  • No delete options of an app folder in iCloud Drive

I've install recently a File Manager app (File Hub), that created a folder in my iCloud Drive. I've deleted the app but the folder remains in iCloud Drive and the bin stays grey when the folder is selected.
    Any ideas?

I had the same issue because my multiple Readdle Scanner Pro files became inaccessible on iCloud (iPad Air and iPhone 6+).
    1. Go to Settings-->General-->Usage
    2. Select Manage Storage on "Storage" first, and then find and delete Scanner Pro (or any file). Sometimes you have to select "edit" first on the top right corner.
    3. Repeat for iCloud Storage
    4. Then, turn off your wifi and turn off and on the device (to clear cache). Sometimes you may have to reset network settings to eliminate any cache connections between iCloud Servers and background syncing on the iOS device.
    5. Reinstall the App, and then select iCloud and iCloud Drive.
This worked for me. I am not sure how to make the Scanner ".psdoc" file format re-readable by the iOS devices, once uploaded.

  • Old podcasts not being deleted from hard drive

Can anyone help me with this problem? I currently have the "keep only unplayed podcasts" selected. ITunes synchs great with my Nano. If a podcast is played, it is taken off of the Nano.
The problem is that the podcast is not also deleted from my hard drive. I have to manually delete the file and "move to recycle bin." Does anyone know a way of having ITunes actually delete the file from the hard drive? I don't want to waste so much space.
    I am using ITunes 7.

    I'm running a managed library.
Let me see if I can understand this. The problem has to do with the place I was looking at. I was looking in the pictures folder in the hard drive. Now, the pictures inside the iPhoto library are the ones that are deleted from the hard drive, and the ones in the Pictures folder are not being touched at all. So I have two separate folders with pictures: the iPhoto library folder and the Pictures folder inside the hard drive.
Since I'm going to be using iPhoto exclusively I might as well delete that other Pictures folder in the hard drive. If I delete the pictures in this folder, would that affect the pictures I have in the iPhoto Library? I'm thinking no since iPhoto has made copies of all those pictures. What do you think?
    THanks for the info TD

  • Time Machine does not automatically delete old backups when drive is full

I back up to a 1TB external drive with TM.  It will not delete old back-ups and instead tells me that the drive is full.  I thought TM was supposed to manage all of this on its own.

It will, if it can.  But it will never delete your last remaining backup.
See #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting, probably the pink box there.
Basically, if Time Machine has to do a full or very large backup, and your Time Machine drive isn't well over twice the size of the data it's backing up, there won't be room for the last backup, plus the new one, plus some workspace.

  • Time Machine almost full, can I start a new drive and NOT delete old one?

Because I had an External HD crash, I was wondering if I can start a new External Hard Drive (500 GB) from scratch (meaning I don't copy old files to it) and keep the old one as a back up to the back up??? Also, I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that. If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
Or is is simply better to copy everything over (I asssume it all remains on the old 300 GB hard drive) and simply let it start rewriting? My iMac is gettin on in years and I'd like to be prepared should something happen to it.
And as you can tell, I am not very techie so please feel free to talk down to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
    Thanks . . running out of space soon . . .

Just to be sure, do you mean your TM drive crashed?  Or an external HD, containing data that TM was backing-up?

Again, I'm not sure what you mean.   If you mean put the old TM drive "on the shelf" and start fresh on a new one, then yes.  Eject and disconnect it, then format the new one (see Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5 if you're not sure how).  Give it a different name, so you're sure which is which, then select it as the destination via the Time Machine Preferences window.  TM will do a full backup to it, so may take a while.
The backups on the new drive will be completely separate from the old ones.
If you ever need to see or restore from the new ones, use the Browse Other Backup Disks option, per #17 in the above link.
I have NOT been backing up the applications and on the new drive, would like to do that.
Yes, it's usually not a good idea to exclude System or Applications folders.
If I move the old stuff from the 300GB, won't the Applications take up most of the 500 GB??
No -- your Applications folder is probably in the range of 10-20 GBs.wn to me.
Has anyone migrated to a new External HD? I have directions from Apple, is it easy????
Again, not sure just what you mean.

  • HT4906 How do I delete old mail from the hard drive on my mac 10.9.2?

How do I delete old mail  with photoattchements
before a certain date from my mail?

Do they appear in Mail? That is are they listed in a Mail window? If so then scroll down to the target date, select the first email for that date. Hold down the SHIFT key and scroll to the last mesage you wish to delete and click on it. This should select all the messages between your start and end date. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your selection and click on Delete in the context menu.
Oh, be sure you have your messages sorted by Date Received.
