Deleting old items in TC?

Can I delete manually in TC? And how do I know what to delete? Is it so that all bundles are 100% complete? So that I can keep ex. one bundle form 2010, one from 2011, 2012 and so on? To free up space on the TC and so that the oldest copies don't get lost

TM already compacts the backup in much the way you are thinking.
See info on how TM works.
http://pondini.org/TM/Works.html
Deleting whole chunks but trying to hold onto certain years.. I think you will find difficult.
See Q12 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
IMHO this is the wrong way to do it. Because once you delete it.. it is gone forever.. and too late to restore it.
Archive off the TC to a USB drive. You can do this manually or set the TC to archive itself.
See Q18 in the same reference.
Once you have the old backups properly stored in archive on a USB disk you can slip in a drawer.. wipe the TC using erase.. and start with fresh clean TM backups.

  • Delete old calendar items on iCloud

    Hello,
we are using the calendar on iPad Mini synchronizing the entries with iCloud. We can deactivate old calendar items but this doesn't delete them. How can we delete old entries from the calendar (e.g. older than 3 months) and therefore, also delete them from the iCloud storage?
    Kind regards,
    Mike

On the next sync, you can choose to replace all events on the iphone.
This option is found at the bottom of the info tab in itunes.
Befor you use this, make sure that any events on the iphone have ben moved to the computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Auto delete old todo items and/or events

Whenever I check the "Delete todo items after..." and the "Delete events after..." options in the Advanced preferences, iCal becomes really sluggish and after a while, my Mac freezes completely... even force quit key combo wont do anything. All I can do is force reboot it.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
From iCal's File menu, select 'Export…' > 'iCal Archive…' and save the archive file. In the Finder open the file and wait for iCal to restore from it. Then turn the 'delete after' preferences back on.
Let us know how it goes.
    Best wishes

  • How to release Stock blocked against deleted line items from  Sales order.

    We have Scenario as follows.
Sales order made for  items available in stock.  Deleted few lineitems from sales order balance items delivered and invoiced. Sales cycle is complete in all sense.
What we have noticed is when we are creating new sales order / Delivery for deleted items from above Sales order it shows deleted quantity is blocked against old sales order. These line items are no longer
available in old sales order since it is deleted also it is not appearing in open sales order report (VA05).
Overall stock available is same as quantity mentioned in deleted line item.
In MD04 - Sales requirenment transaction it shows sales order / line item against which it is blocked.
                    i.e deleted line item.
How to release these stock and make available for sales. Any standard process available ? or any other solutions
    Thanks & Regards,

I got a solution for my question from other forum. for info
Go to SE38 and enter program SDRQCR21 then execute...
Enter line item which is blocked for sales order in MD04 and enter plant then check Data
transfer box and uncheck other boxes... It will pop up information and click yes...
You will get one report and Stock inconsistency will go off and then check it in MD04....

  • Why is iCloud deleting old events in iCal, older than 2 months?

I'm using an iMac, MacBook & iPhone 4 to sync my calendars with iCloud. Running Lion, everything is up to date w/IOS 5.  I initially set up iCloud to sync everything from my iMac to the cloud so all my old calendar items would be there (from several years past). It also synced to my other devices no problem.  Now I only see 2 prior months worth of events on any of them! Everything before that is gone. I though my iPhone may have been the culprit but my iPhone was set to sync the past 3 months of events so I don't understand why it's only showing the past 2 months.
What I'd like to do is sync everything one time so it's there, but on future syncs have it only sync the most recent stuff (3 months). I don't want it searching the whole database from 3 years ago to find stuff to sync, just want it to leave that stuff there, on all my devices.  Right now it keeps deleting the old stuff.
Any ideas what the source of my problem is?
If it's the iPhone setting to sync only the past 3 months, is there a way to keep old items in the calendar, but only "sync" the latest stuff? Or is my only option to select "sync all events"?
    thanks.

I think I solved it. My Macbook was set to delete items after 60 days.  Grrrrr....

  • Doesn't Time Machine delete old backups when it needs more space?

I've had time machine running for a long time now. It worked flawlessly for quite some time.
Today it gave me the error that there was not enough free space on the disk to complete the backup (the error message says something like there is 360 GB of data on the Time Machine drive already, 140 GB of free space and it would require more than that to complete my backup). I have a 500 GB Time Machine disk and my Mac has a 500 GB hard drive, so I should technically never run out of space.
The Time Machine almost acts like this is the first time I've ever backed up, which is not true. Shouldn't Time Machine delete old backups to make space for the new? What's even weirder is that if I open the "Star Wars" window of Time Machine I only see one backup from March 31, 2011, but I have been running Time Machine for well over a year now. I'm totally confused as to what happened. Any advice on how to get my Time Machine back up and running (without buying a new drive) would help!

You see only one backup in the Time Machine window because Time Machine has deleted the older backups to make space to do the current backup.
Time machine needs some working space to do its backups, and so backing up a 500GB drive onto a 500GB time machine volume is not ideal.
However, I do essentially the same thing, and what I do, when I have this problem, is exclude things from the backup.
First off, figure out what you changed. If you moved things from one partition to another, then that will cause a backup of the size of the thing that was moved. This may be why you have a large backup.
When I have this problem, I exclude large things that have changed recently from the backup. This makes the backup smaller, and means that there is less working space needed. I do this until I get a successful backup. Then I remove things, one by one, from the exclusion list, and back up after each one.
So, for instance if you just put 4 new folders on your drive, each of which s 20GB of data and they are named A, B, C and D, add all four to the exclusion list, do a backup, then remove A from the exclusion list (leaving B, C & D on it) and do a backup, and continue like this, adding 20GB of backup data each time until none of the new data is on the exclusion list and you get a completed backup.
Another possible issue, if you use multiple partitions, is that Time Machine may be keeping an obsolete backup of a partition that you previously reformatted. To see if this is the case, go into time machine (The universe interface) and go back to the most recent backup it shows. Click on your computer and see what partitions show up-- are any of them old ones that have been reformatted and renamed? You may be storing a duplicate backup because Time Machine does not realize that the disk that went away isn't coming back (because it has been reformatted as a different partition)
You can right-click on these items and remove them from your backup by sleecting "Delete all backups of...." This will free up space as well.

  • Impossible to delete an item number of a PO of the previous year

    Hello,
    I have a question.
Closing Operations (Carryforward of Open Items) were not made yet.
We want to delete in 2011 an item number of a purchase order (created in 2010 with doc date of the year 2010).
The System informs us that  It is not possible to change document in fiscal year 2011 because the document was updated as open commitment in fiscal year 2010 in Funds Management.
    System : SAP ERP 6.0 /7.0 - EHP 4 - FM BCS
In our old  system SAP 4.7 enterprise (FM) , It was possible to delete an item number of a purchase order of a previous year (when Closing Operations (Carryforward of Open Items) were not made yet).
Isn't it possible any more to delete in 2011 an item number of a purchase order created in 2010 before Closing Operations ?
    Thanks for your answer.
    Fabian

    Hi,
I believe, you have PBET activated. In this case, modification of the commitment should be indeed made in the same year.
    Regards,
    Eli

I was about to try this, but the problem was solved - by updating to ML DP3. Time Machine was able to report more specifically a UUID mismatch - which was strange as there had been no hardware changes:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: MacBook Air
Deep event scan at path:/ reason:must scan subdirs|new event db|
    Finished scan
Found 360330 files (16.14 GB) needing backup
21.25 GB required (including padding), 17.99 GB available
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2012-05-06-132701.inProgress/36723EA8-68F9-4519-A71B-426EEEE06222 containing 896.2 MB; 18.88 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2012-05-06-132701.inProgress/73A7127D-0521-46C0-AD8F-F7C6B6621F86 containing 4 KB; 18.88 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Removed 2 expired backups so far, more space is needed - deleting oldest backups to make room
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2011-10-08-102105 containing 10.75 GB; 29.63 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Deleted 3 backups containing 11.64 GB total; 29.63 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Backup date range was shortened: oldest backup is now 15 Oct 2011
Copied 2.7 MB of 16.14 GB, 106708 of 360330 items
Copied 5.6 GB of 16.14 GB, 360849 of 360849 items
    Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.
Copied 394370 files (8.46 GB) from volume
Upshot is that after many hours it's back, and the sparseimage has been verified.
If it's of any use to anyone finding this, I would say that the solution seems to have been a Mac OS reinstall - which is counter-intuitive, but if all else fails, give it a go!

  • ICal not deleting old events

When i upgraded to Leopard, iCal stopped deleting old events. I have it set to delete events older than 30 days, and it's not doing it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

It's a bug, it didn't work for me in Tiger either. I have the preference set to delete To Do items one day after they are completed. It rarely does. Sometimes it will work, and then it won't. It's flakey.

  • BADI: ME_PROCESS_REQ_CUST  Detecting a Deleted Line Item?

I have implemented this BADI for mapping and for defaulting GL Account Numbers that we read in a custom ZMAPPING_Table. All of my gl account mapping logic is in the 'PROCESS_ACCOUNT' method in this BADI. Just an FYI, there is some code in the 'PROCESS_ITEM' method in this BADI, for another process, as well.
It is important that I keep track of the line items and their related GL Account Numbers, Material Groups, and all other line item data entered data during the create and change of a Purchase Requisition in a global internal table during runtime. It is working well.
The issue is that I need to identify when a line item is being deleted in the P.R. during runtime Then,  I can delete the entry in the internal table as well.  When I delete a line item in the P.R. the logic always seems to break in the 'PROCESS_ITEM' method, and never the 'PROCESS_ACCOUNT' method.
Is there a delete line item indicator, variable, flag, or field, that I can check during runtime in the 'PROCESS_ITEM' method in my ABAP code to see if a line item is in the process of being deleted in the P.R.? it would probably be easiest to validate this in the 'PROCESS_ITEM' method during runtime since we have some code in this method, and it always enters that logic when a line item is deleted. Below are the objects that are being read. If someone has the answer, I'd sure be happy to get the OO code for it as well, since I am still getting my feet wet with OO.

  • When Time Machine deletes old backups......

My Time Machine disk is about to be full. I realize that when the disk becomes full, Time Machine will delete old backups.
I am not clear, however, exactly what this means.
    Is what are deleted:
    1. older disk pseudo-images?
    2. files which no longer are on the computer?
Or is Time Machine actually deleting files which are still on the computer (but were in the old now-being-deleted backup)?
I suspect it is #1 and #2. So if you had a computer where files are added over time (without meaningful deletions), this strategy will not help a lot---you just need to get a new disk.
Is another option to just make a complete new full Time Machine backup (losing all the intermediate backups)? How is this done?

I have no idea what that is.
    2. files which no longer are on the computer?
Yes. More to the point, files that were changed or deleted long ago.
Or is Time Machine actually deleting files which are still on the computer (but were in the old now-being-deleted backup)?
    No.
When Time Machine does it's first, Full backup, it of course copies every file and folder on your system. It also makes a folder in your backups, named with the date and time of the backup. This folder appears to contain all those copied items.
But it doesn't. It contains "hard links" to the backup copies. Think of these as extra-fancy aliases.
Thereafter, TM does "incremental" backups. It copies only the files and folders that were added or changed, and makes another dated folder for that backup. In that folder are links to the new items, plus links to the items that didn't change: so they're cleverly named "multi-links." This is how TM appears to have many full, complete backups of your system when it obviously doesn't.
When TM deletes a backup, all that's really deleted are the folder and the links.
Consider what happens when you do a normal (not secure) deletion of a normal file: OSX basically "forgets" where it was, so the space can be re-used. TM is a little fancier: as long as there's even one link to a file, it isn't forgotten, so it's available to be recovered from any backup that has a link to it, and the space isn't re-used. When the last link is deleted, the copied file is forgotten.
Thus, when you delete a backup, the only actual backup copies that are deleted are the ones that have links in no other backup. So, for example, once you've done a Full backup and a single Incremental, you (or TM) can delete the Full without losing it's copy of anything current.
Another way to look at it is, *each backup is, in effect, a full, complete copy of your entire system the way it was at the time of that backup.*
So much for "fancy." The "extra" fancy part is, TM doesn't necessarily make another link for every single file and folder that didn't change. Instead, if a folder wasn't changed, and nothing in it was changed, TM makes only a single link, to the folder. When you consider that your System folder, for example, contains many tens of thousands of sub-folders and files that rarely change, you see how efficient this is.

  • Where do I go to delete old messages and not SAVE any?

Where do I go to delete old messages and not save any?

    Hello there Ibent50,
If I understand correctly it sounds like you are wanting to delete some messages or whole conversations on your iPhone. This page from the iPhone User Guide should help you do that:
    Manage conversations - iPhone
Delete a message. Touch and hold a message or attachment, tap More, select additional items if desired, then tap .
Delete a conversation. In the Messages list, swipe the conversation to the left, then tap Delete.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Delete old files on my video ipod

I am a new ipod user and have a video ipod. I have been downloading podcasts to my ipod for a week or so. Even though in my itunes I keep only the newest episodes, my ipod retains all previous episodes. However, when I go to my ipod in the source list, all the podcast items are de-highlighted and I can not select or delete.
Can someone point me to a way to delete old files on my ipod?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
In iTunes click on "Podcast", you don't need to have your iPod connected.
Highlight the file you want to delete and press the DELETE key on your keyboard. It will ask if you want to delete the file. If you want to just remove it from your iPod and want to keep the original file on your computer select "Keep Files". If you want to remove from both, select "Move to crcycle bin". This is for PC. If you use a Mac the wording might be slightly different but the principle should be the same.
When you're all done deleting, connect your iPod and the podcasts will be automatically removed from your iPod.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do I keep iCal from deleting old appointments (after 90 days)?

For my business, I need to keep track of which clients I met on specific days. I keep notes about what we discussed in those calendar items. Also, I want to keep that record for my taxes.
I just discovered that iCal is deleting old calendar items after 90 days. I've gone into the Settings and tried to fix it, but there doesn't seem to be an option to save that data.
Has anyone else had this same challenge? Any suggestions?
