Deleting old itunes

I want to delete the old itunes off my pc so I start from the beginning with a new ipod. I have deleted the old itunes software off and then loaded the new itunes back on again. However when I go into itunes it is still showing my old catalogue of music. Can anyone help please on how to get rid of this? Many Thanks.

Unininstalling iTunes does not remove either your music files or you iTunes library database.
I assume you don't want to delete your music files.
If you want to clear your library, just close iTunes then drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music library.xml out of your iTunes folder in My music to the Desktop.
When you start iTunes you will have an empty library.

Do you mean iTunes or iPod updaters like in the .exe files? Newer iTunes install over the old ones, right??
I would burn anything off to a back up cd first.
I once Uninstall some of the older iPod updates and ran into a small problem, so nice to have a back up. Paula

  • Can't delete old iTunes after Mountain Lion install

I updated my Macbook Pro (late 2008 version) to Mountain Lion and everything was working great until I tried to open iTunes from the Dock and got a message about it being unable to open, investigated the Applications folder and discovered that I now have two versions of iTunes, 10.6.3 and 10.7. 10.6.3 is in the applications folder but 10.7 is in a sub-folder within Applications. In the past I've organized apps in folders according to subject - home office, internet, graphics, games, etc., and have had no problem deleting old versions of Apple apps after system updates by either dragging them to the trash or dragging the updated version into the applicable folder and using the "replace" function. Now I cannot move either the new or old version of iTunes to trash or between folders. I'm getting a message "iTunes cannot be modified or deleted because it's required by OS X".. I've searched these forums and googled the question, and the only solutions I've found have addressed Windows PCs.
From checking the "Get info" panel I can tell that the 10.6.3 version was installed prior to installing Mountain Lion, and 10.7 appears to have been installed either with Mountain Lion itself or in a system update shortly thereafter. I tried unlocking 10.6.3 in the Get Info panel, but that didn't allow me to move 10.6.3 to the trash.
    Thanks for any help.

Sure, but its the best you learn how to use the terminal. OS X is Unix and the most advanced tasks can't be done in the graphical enviroment:
    1. Open Terminal (You should startet in your "home" directory, this is the default)
    2. Type: mdls /Applications/iTunes.app (This will output a lot of information)
    3. Look for the last keyword "kMDItemVersion", it should show the program version (e.g. "10.7")
    4. From now on what to do depends on the position of the iTunes version you want to delete. If this is the most recent version you will leave this file alone. If this is an older version of iTunes you will want to delete it. So there is a decision to make.
    4a. Leave this file
    or
4b. Delete this file with: rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app (maybe the permissions don't allow this to do, I could not test it)
    5. After that you could use the finder to move your regular iTunes version to your desired position
    6. If you most recent version is in an other directory, e.g. /Applications/Music/iTunes.app, you have to do the steps above with this path
It makes sense to locate first the iTunes version you want to delete. You can get this information with the showed mdls command or with the information dialog of Finder. Click in Finder the particular iTunes icon once, so it is selected, show the information dialog (cmd+i).

  • How do i delete old itune account?

How dod I delete an old itunes account?

    Hi Brownlow.Jake
Many thanks for your question today.
In short Apple IDs cannot be deleted. So if you are not using it on your phone make sure you replace it with another one. If you go to: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/directToSignIn?loc alang=en_US
You can edit the primary email account for your Apple ID and this can change your mail email account associated with Apple.
If you keep getting these messages, change your primary email to your new Apple ID or do a reset on the device.
    Settings, general, reset, software reset.
Many thanks for allowing me to assist you today

  • Deleting old itunes podcasts

It appears that with the release of Itunes 11.1 I no longer have the option to delete old podcasts.  When I right click I "occassionally" get the option to delete the podcast but even then it simply chnages it's status and shows it as redownloadable. This functionality can't be right. Can someone tell me if in fact it is the case or if I'm missing something obvious.

    Hi, turingtest2, (Alan?)
I've been searching the archives for the old iTunes-11.1-deletes-all-my-podcasts solutions, and you seem to have the best handle on what's going on.
No matter what I try, certain podcast episodes are automatically deleted from my hard drive, with no evidence of them ever being there, and the cloud download symbol appears next to the episode in iTunes. Whether I am subscribed to the podcast or not. If I download the episode again, it's only a matter of time before it's deleted again.
So, I've followed your advice of recovering all the old ones from time machine backups, and storing them in a new folder. I've also reimported them back into iTunes (only to find the same episodes are only in the cloud). I've since converted all the spoken word podcasts to audiobooks, and the music-y ones to music, leaving the genre as podcast.
Now, what i'm proposing - and hopefully it's a short term solution until Apple realises that what they've done is rapidly losing them customers - is to write a small script or Automator thingy such that when iTunes downloads a new podcast episode, it is automatically converted from a podcast to a music / audiobook.
That way, all new / old podcasts can be kept away from the abominable iTunes podcast set up they've recently ruined.
If Apple ever fixes the issue, and allows you to keep old podcasts as podcasts, without the threat of having you stream them from the cloud, one can simply delete the script and convert everything back into podcasts.
My problem is that I haven't the first clue on setting this up.
They call me the ideas man...
    Cheers,
    Ed

  • How can I delete old itunes account out of phone

An old defunct email address keeps showing up on to download apps, even though it has all be updated on iTunes.  How can I delete the old email ID out of my phone?

    Hello jckinkopf,
This can be done by removing the apps that request the old Apple ID from the device, then redownloading the apps that have been removed, after verifying that the correct Apple ID is signed in on your device.

  • Deleting old iTunes folders on new computer?

I just got a new iMac and started up from the last backup I did from my previous PowerBook. Not sure this was here before but now in Finder>Music>iTunes there is a folder that says Previous iTunes Libraries. Can I delete this, why would I need? Anything that was in previous libraries is still in current one. (They only get bigger). Also, curious as to why these were/are created?
    THANKS!

"New versions of iTunes sometimes include enhancements to the iTunes library. When you open the new version of iTunes, iTunes upgrades your existing library to the new format and places a copy of the old library in the Previous Libraries folder. If everything goes fine during your upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, _you can delete_ the older iTunes Library files."

  • Deleting Old iTunes files w/ lost file locations

Does anyone know of a quick efficient way to take you entire iTunes library, identify which song files "original file location cannot be found", and then remove them.
I attempted to restore my library from a iPod I backed up, but no dice. Now I'm left with a ton of songs I can't play because the directory location is lost or they have that obnoxious by them. I really don't want to sort through the whole god forsaken library manually to figure out which ones are playable and which ones are not.
    Grazi,

Go to the Apple Developer's site and download the iTunes COM for Windows SDK zip file. When you unzip it there is a java script program called RemoveDeadTracks.js running this will do what you want

  • Deleting old iTunes and uptade de new iTunes

Hello! Actually I have a trouble with my computer, I want to download the new version of iTunes and I can`t , but I get a window that says: "the function you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.Click on OK to try again, or enter in the following table provides an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi " I don't have a MacBook, my computer is a Lenovo, I have the Windows 7, I don't know what to do :c I have tried to search the folder but is in vain, I find nothing, If someone can help me I will be grateful.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT5621 Removing and old iTunes account

I had an itunes account under a previous employer and used my work email as user name. Now, I can not delete the account and no longer have ccess to the email associated that account. How can I delete old itunes accounts???

You cannot delete accounts, you can only stop using them.  Does the account have private information in it such as a credit card number?  If it doesn't then don't worry.  Note also anything purchased through the acount remains permanently linked to the account.

  • I had to change e-mail addresses and no longer remember my iCloud password for my old iTunes account. My iOS wont let me delete the old account without the password, how can I troubleshoot this? I tried my new password with no luck

I had my iTunes account synced with an old e-mail account. I no longer remeber my password for this account and no longer have access to this e-mail account. I was able to change my information to a new e-mail in iTunes and iCloud with no trouble but my iOS device keeps asking me for the password to my old iTunes account which I can't remember. It defaults the e-mail reset password to the account I can no longer access and also says the date of birth I am entering does not match the records they have... I'm so confused, and I really dont get how my birthday is wrong? When trying to delete the account all together from iOS it asks again for the password...can anyone help me? Thanks!

  • How to delete multiple old ITUNES LIBRARY files safely ?

I'd like to clean up my Itunes LIBRARY files, but don't know what's safe to do and not to do. (I have Itunes 8.1 / OSX10.4.11)
    MY QUESTION IS TWOFOLD :
    (1) how do I create a new Itunes library file now with today's date; and
    (2) how do I delete multiple (old) Itunes library files, without risking the loss of what I've got ?
This all stems from exploring Itunes as a result of a problem I had today... when trying to import mp3's from my terrabyte drive, after about 150 successful mp3 track imports, Itunes froze and everything else on my MAC froze as well (constant spinning colored wheel). After many failed attempts to force quit Itunes, I turned off my MBPro. On restarting, Itunes tooks ages to "import" files. Eventually Itunes opened but with only half of my original tunes (1500+ songs 8.11GB) and had nothing from today's import.
I found a post suggesting to hold down OPTION while starting Itunes. Then I selected a file from my hard drive > me > music > Itunes > "Itune library" with the most recent date and shezam, Itunes once again has all my songs, as before. Nothing I imported from the terrabyte drive today appears however, but no matter.
In my "Itunes" file there appear MULTIPLE Itunes libraries ! such as Itunes library, Itunes Library (damaged), and as well a folder called "Previous Itunes Libraries" which itself contains multiple Itunes Library files and multiple "previous Itunes Library files" with dates back to 2007. These I want to clean up and delete .... should I ? ... Can I ?
I really could use some words of wisdom from the wise ! Thanks in advance

Whenever you install a new version of iTunes and run it teh first time, iTunes will create a backup of the current iTunes library file and copy it into \Music\iTunes\Previous iTunes libraries, then update the iTunes library file in \Music\iTunes\ for the current version of iTunes.
