Deleting old large updates

I have some huge update Java files that I would like to delete because they are so large. Can I do that without problems or do they build on each other?
I have both "Java SE Runtime Environment 5" (and 6) updates and straight "Java 6" updates. It comes to 900 megs!
And if they are not all needed (I suspect) why aren't the old versions automatically uninstalled when a new version is uploaded?
Thanks.

The most recent is all you probably need, but you may want to keep the latest 1.4.2 version in case you need to run code that's not compatible with later versions. You could always reinstall it later if you need it though.

Do you mean iTunes or iPod updaters like in the .exe files? Newer iTunes install over the old ones, right??
I would burn anything off to a back up cd first.
I once Uninstall some of the older iPod updates and ran into a small problem, so nice to have a back up. Paula

  • Delete old ipod updates

Is it ok to delete old ipod updates, but keep the last update.thay take up close to 1gig of space.

Yes, you can delete them. They aren't needed once they are used.
Keeping the most recent updater is a good idea.

  • Deleted old System-update directories

I am about to install ZCM 11 SP3 on our ZCM 11.2.3.a linux servers.
In an attempt to free up space can I delete the older system-updates from the /var/opt/novell/zenworks/content-repo/system-update folder.
    Thanks

There is a bug (IMO), but it's a WAD that can cause the old system-updates to remain and zman sudu won't delete anything.
Should only happen on your satellite servers though.
If it's your satellites that have the old system updates, then yes, you can manually delete the directories.
It has something to do with the content replication schedule and the automatic (hard coded) database cleanup routines. IF the database cleanup routines run before the content replication, then you end up with orphaned system updates in the system and since the database thinks it's gone, zman sudu doesn't do anything.
I had like 15 GB of system updates I had to delete on 20+ servers.

  • Deleted old iPhone update, now what?

I received an error message during the new iPhone update 1.1.1, and I read some of the discussions here about removing a previous iPhone update (iPhone1,11.1.1_3A109aRestore.ipsw) to allow for the new 1.1.1 update. I did that and the update worked, but I am not sure - do I need to keep that other update, or should I just toss it? Thank you!!
P.S. My update worked just fine after deleting the file above.

It won't do you any good to keep the old update since you supposedly cannot revert to it anyway. Trash it and empty the trash.

  • Deleting old iPhone Updates

My wife and I both have an iPhone 4 and we are using the same iMac with two accounts to update the Software (4.01. / 4.0.2).
The 4.0.2 - Update has had more than 500 MB in Size and iTunes downloaded it twice - so 1 GB of HDD - Space lost on that update alone.
Is there a way to delete the old Updates while of course not making iTunes forget that it is installed?

I believe it does incremental backups (only backs up changed data) so those older backup files contain data that hasn't changed since the date of the backup. If you delete them you will not be able to restore the data that hasn't changed in a while.

  • Deleting old JS2 Update files

I have JS2 Runtime Environment Updates, 3, 6 & 7 in addition to SE v1.4.2 using up a lot of space on my hard drive. Can I delete one or more of them without experiencing some unforeseen problem?

where is "home>music>previous itunes library folder" ?
It is in your Home folder in /Music/iTunes/Previous iTunes libraries.
Double click the *Macintosh HD* icon on your desktop. then go to Music/iTunes.
Note that these are single files of a few dozen MB. It is not a backup of all your song files or everything in your iTunes folder.
Deleting them won't save much space.

By "sending" do you mean sending email?
If so, what app are you using to take the photos on your iPhone 5? Or are the photos from a different source (saved to your Camera Roll from somewhere else, like a web page or Messages)?
My guess is that Mail gives you the option to send different file sizes when it detects you are trying to Mail a really large photo file. The size of photos on the iPhone 5 is really big and some email providers may stop your mail from being delivered if attachments are too large. Thus, Mail tries to help you by offering to resize the photo.
I suspect that if you are sending smaller files, Mail does not bother giving you options to save a smaller version. In fact, I have seen this behavior. So, if the photo is already "small enough", it gets sent as-is.
To my  knowledge, there is no global iOS setting for this. Some apps may have different rules, of course.

  • Software Update Server - Deleting old updates to make space for new ones

On Page 77 of the SystemImage_and_SW_Updatev10.4.pdf Apple recommends "deleting old updates to make space for new ones". I've looked and searched and yet to find a way to do this. The Server Admin interface and the command line options I've looked into don't appear to provide this option.
So I actually tried stopping the server, moving the updates from /usr/share/swupd/html to another location, starting the server, the server wouldn't start, moving the files back again, the server still won't start.
    1. Does anyone know how you're supposed to "Delete old updates to make space for new ones"
    2. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get Software Update service running again?

    Hello there, Syd_ma22.
The answer to how to delete a song on your phone in iOS7 is found on page 62 of the iPhone User's Manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
    Specifically:
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Can I delete old folders after updates?

Can't believe it makes one iota of difference but am using WIN7.
Is there any reason not to delete old folders in Lightroom and PS when I upgrade or install later versions.
Example:  I have 5 folders of updates (plus 4.2)  in my Adobe folder for Lightroom starting with 3.4 up thru 4.1.
Can I just delete everything except 4.2?
I have PS CS6. Can I delete the CS5 folder?
    Thanks.

Most folks leave older versions on their systems to avoid potential issues arising from uninstalling an older version after installing a new.
Those who DO want to clean up uninstall the older software.  Are you saying you've done that but folders are still left behind?  In that case you'd be safe to remove anything explicitly identified as a version you've uninstalled.

Windows or Solaris? Its no problem on Windows, under Solaris you just have to verify that no component is using it before deleting it..

  • TS4009 I deleted a large number of contacts on one iphone when i got a new one. icloud must have automatically synced to the old one, then synced my new one to that, thus deleting many contacts. can i restore them?

I deleted a large number of contacts on one iphone when i got a new one. icloud must have automatically synced to the old one, then synced my new one to that, thus deleting many contacts. can i restore them? can i retrieve a snapshot of my icloud as it existed yesterday?

When a device that is connected to an icloud account has it's contacts deleted, the same contacts at icloud.com are also deleted and then the changes propagate to other computers and devices also connected to the same icloud account.   In other words, the contacts are deleted everywhere.  Also, any iOS backup to icloud does not include contacts or any of the other Apple data, like calendars, reminders, etc.  The only way you can get that data back is if it was on a computer which has been frequently backed up.  You restore the data from the backup.  (This reference to "backup" is a local backup, it has nothing to do with icloud.)

cc updates- Am I'm supposed to delete old PS version and use ps2014?

If you need to free up the space you can uninstall Photoshop CC; it's not needed going forward if you can use Photoshop CC 2014 without problems and don't need the specific features that have been deprecated (e.g., Oil Paint, Flash Panel Support, etc.)....
