Deleting old rman backup
Hi
Let say I have a rman backup on Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday.
Would it be possible to delete only monday`s backup from rman? Note that it is not obsolete.
hi,
how about this:
delete backup completed before "19-FEB-2010";
or
delete backup completed between "17-FEB-2010" and "19-FEB-2010";
Is it correct/helpful ?

Maverick TimeMachine deletes old weekly backups with no reason
Hi,
I use 10.9.4 and I found that TimeMachine deletes old weekly backups so that there are now 14-days backups.
I see no reason.
To make it clearer: Old backups from 2014-04-18, 2014-05-02, 2014-05-23, 2014-06-13 and 2014-06-27 were deleted.
The log:

Any ideas?
MarkusI was about to try this, but the problem was solved - by updating to ML DP3. Time Machine was able to report more specifically a UUID mismatch - which was strange as there had been no hardware changes:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: MacBook Air
Deep event scan at path:/ reason:must scan subdirs|new event db|
Finished scan
Found 360330 files (16.14 GB) needing backup

Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2012-05-06-132701.inProgress/36723EA8-68F9-4519-A71B-426EEEE06222 containing 896.2 MB; 18.88 GB now available, 21.25 GB required

Deleted 3 backups containing 11.64 GB total; 29.63 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Backup date range was shortened: oldest backup is now 15 Oct 2011
Copied 2.7 MB of 16.14 GB, 106708 of 360330 items
Copied 5.6 GB of 16.14 GB, 360849 of 360849 items
Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.
Copied 394370 files (8.46 GB) from volume
Upshot is that after many hours it's back, and the sparseimage has been verified.
If it's of any use to anyone finding this, I would say that the solution seems to have been a Mac OS reinstall - which is counter-intuitive, but if all else fails, give it a go! -

when I try to delete old 4s backup from iCloud (I have a 5s) it tells me it cannot be deleted because in use. How to I fix that to delete it?
That should clear up on it's own when it times out in 3-5 days. Wait a few days, then try deleting it again.

Duplicate an old RMAN backup set on Oracle 9.2.0.8 with no catalog
Version: 9.2.0.8. We don't use an RMAN catalog
Scenario: I need to duplicate a database to the same server with a different name so I can recover some old data. The restored backup set is about 20 days old
and my RMAN retention is 1 day.
Current date: 24 March 2011
I try
./rman target sys/syspassword@pasdbt9i auxiliary /

I presume this is happening because the target database has a retention of one day and is unaware of this rman backup that is about 20 days old.
If this is true, is there a way of telling the target database about this old backup set that I now want to duplicate?
From 10g onwards you can catalog a backup piece which might be the fix for this??
I've got round the problem by restoring the database to a different server, but would still like to know if the above is possible.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? thanks.Hi C3PO,
I presume this is happening because the target database has a retention of one day and is unaware of this rman backup that is about 20 days old?Correct the backupset metadata is nolonger available.
From 10g onwards you can catalog a backup piece which might be the fix for this??In 9i you can catalog image copies.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?Another option would be setup a catalog and change the retention policy to 30 days and add extra diskspace.

Can't Delete old iPhone Backup off of iCloud backup storage
After upgrading my iPhone 4S to a iPhone 5S, I restored the 5S using the recent backup of old 4S. Now I am getting "out of cloud storage space" messages on my new 5S phone. I went into iCloud backup storage to delete the 4S backup, but, it says it is in use and cannot be deleted at this time. I have attempted to turn off iCloud backup on the old 4S phone, shutting it off, turning off iCloud backup, but, get the same failed message when attempting to delete the old backup.
What is the trick to removing this without wiping the old 4S, because I want to be sure there is nothing left on the phone, before I completely wipe it...and I can't tolerate the "No more space in cloud storage" message that keeps popping up on the 5S.
Thank you,
--kThat should clear up on it's own but may take 3-5 days to do so. Wait a few days and try deleting the old backup again. If you want to back up your phone in the meantime, manually back it up to your computer using iTunes (click Back Up Now on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings).

Apple deleted old iPhone backup :(
Hello!
I'm paying for iCloud and had an old iPhone4S backup at the cloud. Today, I decided to get back for iPhone, only to found that Apple deletes iPhone backups older than 6 months and my backup was near 9 months old.
I went very angry, because of some unique data I had with this backup.
Is there any way to restore it? Any chance for Apple support help?
Thanks for any help.Unfortunately, I doubt it. You would have to contact iCloud support to find out for sure.
I assume that Apple does this because there are some 340 million iCloud accounts and a number of them are abandoned as people sell or stop using old devices, or create new accounts to use. At some point they have to clear out the old accounts to free up server space. -
Time machine Deleted old computer backups
Hey,
I have been using a mac pro for about a year and a half now and as all computers get it has become slow and full of garbage. So i used my time machine back up and successfully backed up all my files. I put in the OS disk and wiped the computer clean and reinstalled the OS. I plugged the time machine back up in and began to copy over only the files that i wanted. A few days later I had not yet copied over all of the files that I needed, i was prompted me to set up this computer with a time machine back up. I began the process thinking that it would create the backups in a new file on the drive or append it to the current list of back up images. It stopped half way though saying there was not enough free disk space. on the 1 TB HD there was only 5 GB remaining. So I just canceled it and was going to finish copying over all of the files i wanted and they delete the old backups. However when I went to get my old backup files, they had all been deleted.
I was using this hard drive to store other media files as well as time machine backups. taking the HD into the local computer shop i was informed that that is a terrible thing to do and perhaps the reason that my backups have been lost. the tech said there was nothing to be done but reformat the drive and start again. I am hoping this is not the case. the drive still says there is only 5GB of free space however I can only fine 300GB of files on the drive. so i believe that the files are still there. Does anyone know a solution to this issue. There are many valuable things on this hard drive that i would hate to loose.
I have tried holding the option key and clicking on the icon to view other backups, but my original backups are not there.
Thanks in advance. Before I make any reply, note that you are responding to a topic that has been inactive for more than two years, on a system two versions out of date. In the future, you would do better to start your own topic in an appropriate forum, specifying what system you're running and what hardware you're running it on, among other things.
this exact thing happened to me as well and I must say that I find it totally unacceptable...
Well, without more information, it's impossible to say what might have happened or how you can recover. You may find some answers on Pondini's excellent site:
http://pondini.org
However, it's important to understand that this may or may not have anything to do with Time Machine. Perhaps your backup drive is dying, perhaps its directory structure became badly corrupt, perhaps one of any number of other things could have happened. Because there is no such thing as storage that is completely stable, it's important to keep more than one backup, as noted previously on this topic.
Carbon Copy Cloner seems like a much better solution at this time.
Carbon Copy Cloner is an excellent solution. Is it better? No. It is simply different, and that makes it better in some aspects and worse in others than Time Machine. The best backup strategy will involve two different backup programs. I frequently recommend using both Time Machine and CCC. I use TM with a Time Capsule for one backup, which has certain advantages over CCC. I use CCC for a couple other backups, one of which is in a safe deposit box at all times, and that has some advantages over TM. Using both, with multiple backups, means that I'm extremely unlikely to lose much data, if any at all... unless a meteor hits and destroys both my home and my bank, in which case I've got bigger problems!
Anyway, with regard to recovery, take a look at Pondini's site. If that doesn't help, or you need assistance with something, start your own topic in the appropriate forum for your system and provide additional details that may help us better assist you. -
How do I delete old TM backups after trying to drag to trash?
Before finding out that draging TM backups to the finder trash was a no no, I did it. Now I an not get rid of those files. I have a new TM backup . . . that's no problem . . . I just can't seem to delete the old files.
Take a look at this part of Pondini's Time Machine troubleshooting guide:

Two questions: getting first iPhone & deleting old iPhone backups?
Here's the deal.
My neighbor has 'paid' for his old iPhone 4 through AT&T and is getting a new one. He's going to give me his old one. It will be my first smartphone (and, naturally, my first iPhone). I've backed it up for him using my computer before and there are a bunch of his apps in iTunes which I would like to remove. So my first question is, "how do I get rid of that backup"?
I've downloaded the iPhone 4 manual with iOS 4.x (which he has running) and I think I know how to go about updating and resetting the phone. After I get it updated to iOS 6.x, I'll be going to the AT&T store and finding a good (cheap!) plan that fits my lifestyle.
Any help or suggestions?
Thanks,
ClintonOn the phone, follow the directions here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661
Then set things up using YOUR Apple ID. Any old backups, delete: iTunes>Preferences>Devices. Also delete any & all content, in your library, obtained with his ID. -
I need to get rid of the backups from my old MBP I have deleted lots via Time machine but available space on Time Capsule still only 45gb and backup bundle still shows 545gb how do i regain space.
I need to ultimately remove all the backup from the old MBP.
I have three computers backup up to the time capsule plus some other stuff, so would prefer not to have to erase everying on the TC.
Help anyone...Time Machine "sparsebundle" files behave differently than a normal file. A sparsebundle grows as more data is added, but if data is deleted, the apparent size of the sparsebundle stays the same.
When more data is added that surpasses the original size, the sparsebundle starts to grow again. Simple, huh?
If you want see the actual available space, you need to "compact" the sparsebundle file using Terminal commands.....not for the faint of heart.
See #12, specifically the pink box in Time Machine --- FAQ by Time Machine expert Pondini.

Can't delete old iCloud backup
Had a phone set up to back up to iCloud. That phone went dead, and was returned to Apple and exchanged with a new one. Because the screen went dead -- thus rendering the phone inoperable -- I was unable to shut off iCloud backups and delete the old backup.
Right now, I can't delete the old phone's iCloud backup, and I don't have enough space to start backups on the replacement phone. How can I resolve this?If you registered your old phone with Apple, try unregistering it by:
Going to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Loging in if not already logged in.
Clicking on ">" to the right of the phone listing
Clicking "unregister"
This may take a day or two but hopefully will then allow you to remove the backup.
If it doesn't, then one option is to create a new iCloud account and migrate your data to the new account. To do this, go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone. After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud, in case you ever want to re-use the account in the future.) Next, set up a new iCloud account on this phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to this new account. -
Is it ok to delete old iphone backups
i have the latest backup for my phone and my wife's phone in itunes, prefs, devices. i also see one each from when we got our new phones on jan 5. is it okay to delete the jan 5 backup files now that i have a newer backup? is there a good reason to keep them? also, in finder, itunes, i have previous itunes libraries from 2009 to 2011, do i need these? what will happen if i delete them? thanks.
The manual iTunes backup process for my iPhone and iPad has stored multiple manual backups in my laptop's MobileSync backup folder. I thought iTunes only stored the most recent one backup. There are multiple files for each backup date and multiple backups going back for months. The iPhone backup folder has over 1.2GB of files in it. The iPad folder has .5GB of files in it. I have two questions:
1. Why is iTunes creating more than ONE backup for my iPhone?
2. Is it OK to delete the ALL of the older backup files (prior to the most recent backup date)? -
Restore old rman backup after changing dbid?
Hi,
I backed up database using rman. then i changed dbid for that databases. can i restore backup what i backed up before changing DBID?No.
When you change the DBID for a database, it becomes a different database. All the datafiles are stamped with the new DBID.
And you cannot select a DBID value either, so you cannot choose to change the DBID back to the previous value.
A RESTORE verifies that it is restoring to the same database -- it uses the DBID to verify. Since the DBIDs for the Backup and the now-present database do not match, a RESTORE cannot be attempted.
You can remove the database with the changed DBID and do a complete RESTORE from the backup.
