Deleting old unsubscribed podcasts

Hey,
I have a 60GB 5G Video Ipod and subscribe to many podcasts. I have stopped subscribing to some but for some reason the name of the podcast still appears on my ipod. There are the names of Podcasts that I have deleted along time ago but still are on the iPod podcast libary, not the itunes libary.
The names also don't appear on the "summary" menu only on the ipod itself. Not a big deal but a bit annoying,
thanks

There is a couple ways to have iTunes remove old podcasts and they all depend on how you kept the podcasts in the first place.
1) select the group of podcasts and then click "Allow auto delete" then on the next refresh of your list iTunes will automattically remove these podcasts from your system
2) change the subscription settings for that podcast by selecting the title of the podcast in your list and going to "Settings" at the bottom of your screen and you can then set it to keep only the most <blank> podcasts, all podcasts or all unplayed podcasts
3) the method suggested by Roger

  • Deleting old itunes podcasts

It appears that with the release of Itunes 11.1 I no longer have the option to delete old podcasts.  When I right click I "occassionally" get the option to delete the podcast but even then it simply chnages it's status and shows it as redownloadable. This functionality can't be right. Can someone tell me if in fact it is the case or if I'm missing something obvious.

    Hi, turingtest2, (Alan?)
I've been searching the archives for the old iTunes-11.1-deletes-all-my-podcasts solutions, and you seem to have the best handle on what's going on.
No matter what I try, certain podcast episodes are automatically deleted from my hard drive, with no evidence of them ever being there, and the cloud download symbol appears next to the episode in iTunes. Whether I am subscribed to the podcast or not. If I download the episode again, it's only a matter of time before it's deleted again.
So, I've followed your advice of recovering all the old ones from time machine backups, and storing them in a new folder. I've also reimported them back into iTunes (only to find the same episodes are only in the cloud). I've since converted all the spoken word podcasts to audiobooks, and the music-y ones to music, leaving the genre as podcast.
Now, what i'm proposing - and hopefully it's a short term solution until Apple realises that what they've done is rapidly losing them customers - is to write a small script or Automator thingy such that when iTunes downloads a new podcast episode, it is automatically converted from a podcast to a music / audiobook.
That way, all new / old podcasts can be kept away from the abominable iTunes podcast set up they've recently ruined.
If Apple ever fixes the issue, and allows you to keep old podcasts as podcasts, without the threat of having you stream them from the cloud, one can simply delete the script and convert everything back into podcasts.
My problem is that I haven't the first clue on setting this up.
They call me the ideas man...
    Cheers,
    Ed

  • How to delete title of unsubscribe podcast off of ipod?

I have unsubscribed from some podcasts and deleted all episodes. However, the title remains on my iPod--it does not show up on my podcast list under Library only on the device itself. I have searched my computer for the titles and don't find them. Any ideas for deleting old titles? Thanks.

Isn't it frustrating?  Have you found a solution yet?

  • Cannot delete old podcast episodes after updating to ios 8

The usual way of manually deleting old podcast episodes, swiping right to left and then selecting the red delete button, appears to be no longer available. Do I need to fix something or is there a new way of doing this function?

Have you tried swiping left to right?
Try going to Settings>General>Usage>Podcasts  and select the the podcast you want to delete and tap edit in in upper left and delete the podcast.

  • Delete old podcasts?

*** please someone tell me how to delete old podcasts in the new iTunes bollocks there is no ability to highlight and delete! How can this be?

Which view are you looking at? In iTunes / Podcasts / List, there is no way to remove the items - if you mark them as played, the file will disappear from your computer, but the item will still be in the Lists pane, with a cloud icon beside it.
The "My Podcasts" or "My Stations" panes seem to be more useful at this point.
Now, if you're trying to stop them from downloading again: don't delete the podcast file in the first place. Instead, mark it as played - and that should make it disappear. If you delete it without playing it, iTunes for some reason thinks you must want it back. (Note that deleting on the iPhone still does what you'd expect it to do - delete the darn file! - but in iTunes it doesn't seem to work.)

  • How do I delete old podcasts that I downloaded directly to my iPod Touch?

I cannot delete old podcasts that I downloaded directly to my iPod Touch through its Wifi connection. Manually deleting them in iTunes doesn't work--my laptop doesn't recognize that they are on my iPod. What should I do? I want my memory back!

I have the same problem.  I usually can delete by swiping but for some reason the delete button doesn't show up on this podcast.
I don't know exactly what I did, but when I downloaded from the iTunes store over WiFi, it just downloaded a link to the podcast so I need to be connected to a Wifi network to play it.

  • How do I delete old podcasts and sync new podcasts without getting duplicates

I  have an iPod Nano.  I've enjoyed downloading podcasts and listening to them while walking my dog.  I want to delete the podcasts I've already listened to and download only those I haven't heard.  If I delete old podcasts, will iTunes be able to identify and download only podcasts I haven't listened to?

You don't have to use the Podcasts app.  If you delete it and sync to iTunes on your computer via USB the podcasts will appear back in the Music app.  You can delete them there.

  • Auto-delete old podcasts in iTunes 12

Thanks for the input! I right clicked one of the disappearing episodes, but there was no "Save Episode" on the drop down menu. There was "Remove From Saved Episodes" option.

  • Delete an ENTIRE podcast?

    Hi
Does anyone know how to delete an entire podcast? The show, the header...everything? I'm the owner-
I changed servers and upgraded extensively, but the old podcast is still out there. It's confusing for first time visitors.
We're talking about Smoke and Mirrors (www.smoke-and-mirrors.us). There is a set of stories for which the links no longer work (as I said, I changed servers, etc.) I'd like the entire thing gone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dennis M

Thanks for the input. Yes, I am aware that I can, (to an extent) locate the lost podcasts and download them again, but then "knowing" exactly what was lost becomes an issue, (?). I had renamed all of these to indicate the content in a more comprehensive way, and...using my computer to retain these things, is really the point...yes? To eliminate the necessity of remembering a lot of minutua, and free up your organic hardrive for more important things. The real issue here is that too many times I have experienced the coerced methodology of Apple, (as well as other software providers) to mandate upgrades or loose ability to utilize that which you have in good faith bought, ( and should be able to utilize until it breathes it's last breath) only to be forced into "upgrades" which don't work as well as what you are upgrading to...and round and round and round...

  • Delete old files on my video ipod

I am a new ipod user and have a video ipod. I have been downloading podcasts to my ipod for a week or so. Even though in my itunes I keep only the newest episodes, my ipod retains all previous episodes. However, when I go to my ipod in the source list, all the podcast items are de-highlighted and I can not select or delete.
Can someone point me to a way to delete old files on my ipod?
    Thanks!

    Try this:
In iTunes click on "Podcast", you don't need to have your iPod connected.
Highlight the file you want to delete and press the DELETE key on your keyboard. It will ask if you want to delete the file. If you want to just remove it from your iPod and want to keep the original file on your computer select "Keep Files". If you want to remove from both, select "Move to crcycle bin". This is for PC. If you use a Mac the wording might be slightly different but the principle should be the same.
When you're all done deleting, connect your iPod and the podcasts will be automatically removed from your iPod.
    Hope it helps.

  • I have a 3g iphone and I need to know how to delete old photos from my phone!! I need the space but there is no way to delete the pictures!! Help!!!

I have a 3g iPhone and I need to know how to delete old photos. Need to free up space and there is no clear way to delete these photos!! Can someone please let me know how to get rid of these pictures!!!! Help!!!

There are a number of ways to delete pictures from the Camera Roll.  One is to open Camera Roll in the thumbnail view, tap the arrow button (top right), tap all the pictures you want to delete, tap the Delete button ant the bottom.  Photo Library pictures are deleted by unchecking Sync Photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings, followed by syncing your phone.

  • My Lacie external hard drive will not back up on Time Machine. Says there's not enough space. This has happened with every single external I've purchased. Thought TM was supposed to delete old backups??

My Lacie External backed up on Time Machine after the first back up but now says there's not enough room. I thought TM deleted old back ups to save new versions. What am I doing wrong. This happens to me constantly. Every single external hard drive I've purchased for the MacBook Pro (5 of them) has not worked either initially or at the second back up. It either isn't formatted properly so I have to go to Genius bar to help me set up for the first back up, or after the first back up, it says there's not enough space and I have to go back to Genius Bar. Is there a way I can fix this on my own?

I just purchased 2 external hardrives. a LaCie Minimus and a G Drive. Each 1 TB. The guy at Apple told me that would provide 2 good TM backups for me. My internal HD has 750 GB capacity, of which I'm using 700 GB. Perhaps the ratio is not great enough. I do wish they would have told me this before I purchased the two Bummmmer! I even had them format and get the first back-ups going because of issues I've had in the past. I also just bought a 750 GB for photos.
So, I won't be able to buy another bigger external since I've just purchased 3. Ugh. Well, I'll just exclude some files and divide things up. Eventually, I just want my 20,000 iphotos on one of the 1TB externals, and a TM back-up on another so that iphoto will function once more. It really hates how many photos I have and is brutally punishing me for it.I seriously need to do some housecleaning!
Thanks for the advice. Just moved from US to Australia last week and was hoping to upload a few photos and the domino effect has lead me to this. Just went to Genius Bar in Perth today and they told me how to reformat drive to transfer iphoto library over, but I got stuck at trying to back-up my TM.

  • Software Update Server - Deleting old updates to make space for new ones

On Page 77 of the SystemImage_and_SW_Updatev10.4.pdf Apple recommends "deleting old updates to make space for new ones". I've looked and searched and yet to find a way to do this. The Server Admin interface and the command line options I've looked into don't appear to provide this option.
So I actually tried stopping the server, moving the updates from /usr/share/swupd/html to another location, starting the server, the server wouldn't start, moving the files back again, the server still won't start.
    1. Does anyone know how you're supposed to "Delete old updates to make space for new ones"
    2. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get Software Update service running again?

How do I clean up mail in my icloud?  I have already deleted old mail (from all my e-mail accounts) on all devices, and emptied the junk & deleted files, but it still shows that I am at max on my icloud. What do I do to free up space? (photos & apps do not take up that much room).  When I go to manage storage on any device & it will display how much room each program or app is using, it still shows that my e-mail is taking up the most room.  Is there a way to actually log on to the icloud server to manage what it stored there?  If so, how do I do it?  Also, on a related subject,  why does my mail not sync accross all devices?   ie. when I delete an email on one device, why do I still see it on all my other devices?  How can I change this?
I have an iphone5, ipad2, ipod 4th gen, ipod 3rd gen, all running on my same apple id - but I have a PC not a Mac home computer - is this part of the problem?  Looking to upgrade to a Mac sometime this year...
    Thank-you for the help!

I do have the Time Capsule and spoke to Apple Care here in Sydney about it yesterday.  They told me my mail is not backed up there unless I create a special folder. I just tried ringing them again but Apple Care is closed today...
Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule
