Deleting old versions of PhotoShop Elements

Jeez, all kinds of hoops to jump through just to get one stupid question answered.
I just installed PhotoShop Elements 12. Is it safe to delete my old version, PhotoShop Elements 8, from my hard drive?
P.S. Does anyone know why I had to submit my birthday to join the forum? With the latest security breaches on the Adobe site, giving out such personal information is dangerous. I guess Adobe doesn't really care about our security.

No, that's not true, although you might get asked for a serial number from the old version on reinstall. However, if you're using windows, you might want to read through this, about the features missing from PSE 12:

Many of them can be reinstalled from your older version. (Macs are missing the same features, but since the mac version is now 64 bits, reinstalling old bits doesn't work.)

  • I am trying to reinstall an old version of photoshop elements from a backup drive.

My computer died and I am trying to install an older version of photoshop elements from a backup drive on a new computer.  I get the following error message " Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information.  Help?

Just after double clicking or single clicking on the pse 2 shortcut hold down the Alt+Ctrl keys and keep holding the keys until you get a
Scratch Disk Preferences dialog and point the scratch disk to your portable hard drive and maybe that will work.

  • Download old Versions of Photoshop Elements (Version 5 for Mac)

    Hi,
a long time ago I got Photoshop Elements 5 free with my Webhosting account.
I still have the Serial Number but lost the CD. Is there any way, I can download
Photoshop Elements 5 preferably for Mac? All I can find is the new release.
    Thanks,
    oecherprinte

    OK. Good to know.
I also have old Windows CDs of Versions 2 and 3. Is there any chance of
a Mac Version where these old keys will work. Otherwise I have to use parallels.
    Thanks

I have been using a 2001 version of Adobe Photoshop Elements.  I have the original CD and license #.  Had to get new computer...my Adobe Photoshop won't install....says I need to Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher...and then quits installation.  Any hope to use it/install it?

  • Trying to reinstall old version of Photoshop Elements from a disk

Photoshop Elements disappeared from my computer and when I tried to reinstall from the disk, I am not having any luck getting it to work.  I am using an older version of Elements made for Windows XP, ME, 2000, 98, NT 4.0 and OS 8.6 to 9.x.  Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

What operating system are you using?
Was it working before it "Disappeared"?
Sounds like photoshop elements 1 (one)?
What happens when you try to install it?
Your sure photoshop elements is really gone?
    Have you looked in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe
    or
    C:\Program Files\Adobe
for a folder called Photoshop Elements

  • Old version of Photoshop Elements question

I have Photoshope Elements 1.0.1 (2001).  It will not install on my laptop.  Is there anyway to get an up-date with out paying again.  (The software came with my Epson Perfection 2450 Photo Scanner)

    What OS are you using?
Photoshop Elements 1 is a very very old software.
Please considering buying the latest Photoshop Elements 11.

  • Trouble loading an old version of Photoshop Elements

I have been trying to load an older version of this software and a message saying that IE 4.0 or greater is required to load the program. My IE software is current, but I can't get past this message.....
Do I need to upgrade my sofware of throw it out?
    I would appreciate feedback.

I have 1.6TB of hard drive left and I have not previously installed Photoshop Elememts on this new PC.
Unfortunately I don't know what version of the program I have, but I have had it for about 10 years. It shows 1.0.1 on the CD and that's the only indentification I can see.
As you point out I have more than 1TB of free space on the hard drive, which as you indicated is likely to be a problem.
I think I just might revert to plan B and buy new software.
    Many thanks for your time.

  • Have upgraded computer from windows me to win 8 and tried to install an old version of photoshop elements. It starts but ends with an error that I must have internet explorer 4.0 or greater. What do I need to do?

    Can anyone help?

First we need to know how much free space your windows 8 hard drive has.
Do you still have access to the computer with Windows ME?

  • Trouble installing older version of Photoshop Elements on Windows 8.1

I'm having trouble installing an old version of Photoshop Elements (I have no need to upgrade) on Windows 8.1 - it keeps saying I need Internet Explorer 4.0 or above, though I have IE 11. I've tried the regedit fix mentioned here: Elements needs version 4 or newer of Internet Explorer to install? but it doesn't seem to be working - the default was already C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE, and the Path was C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer; - I changed it to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer: but that made no difference. I can't uninstall IE 11 from Windows 8.1, or install an older version.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I used an IEXPLORE.EXE from internet explorer 7 and set the registry path to that.
Then provided your hard drive doesn't have more than 1 TB of free space, photoshop elements 1 should install and run on windows 8.1
Don't forget to set the registry paths back to what they were originally.

  • Why did my install of an older version of Photoshop Elements fail?

I tried to install a 2001 version of Photoshop Elements, but it failed to install stating that "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later is Required." I have Windows 7, so therefore I should have at least Internet Explorer 9. Also when I tried to install it on my MAC it also failed stating that "Install failed because Classic Mode is no longer supported." So why can't I install this program on my MAC or Windows 7?
I just bought this off eBay hoping to score a deal on an older program to use and get familiar with before installing a newer version and finding out I didn't like it or it wouldn't meet my needs. Any help in this manner is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
First off, you must be referring to a very old version of Photoshop Elements, not even sure it is version 1. Learning that will not help you very much when you try to go for the latest version - it will be like starting again.
The old version did not know anything of the later versions of Internet Explorer and the installer gets confused. You can trick it by doing some registry edits (see following document) but I strongly advise against it unless you are very competent with computers. Get things wrong and you could kill your system.
    Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.
In addition to the level of Internet Explorer, you will run into problems if you have large disk drives.
I'm not a MAC expert but the older versions of Photoshop Elements were designed to run on PowerPC-based computers and will not run on systems later than MAC OS 10.6.x.
If you are serious about getting to know Photoshop Elements, the best thing is to get the latest trial version. Download that and install it and you can try it for 30 days. If you decide you like it, then you could look out for bargains at your local store or online.

  • Can files for older versions of Photoshop Elements be deleted

I am running Windows 8.1 (64-bit Version). I recently purchased and successfully downloaded and installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 13. Prior to installation, I de-installed Photoshop Elements 12. I had previously owned Version 10 and 11 which have been de-installed several years ago.
I just noticed that the ProgramData/Adobe/Photoshop Elements folder on my Windows 8.1 system drive, there are at least 1 gigabyte of files still left under subdirectories for 10.0, 11.0, 12.0.
Also, under the Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Elements 12 Organizer, there are over 700 megs of files still remaining. These files are very similar to what is stored in the Program Files/Adobe/Elements 13 Organizer folder that was created during the Photoshop Elements 13 install.
Question – can any of these files associated with the earlier version of Photoshop Elements (12,11, and 10) be manually deleted as it seems like a waste of space for potentially files no longer used.

  • Which version of Photoshop Elements is best for for my old Mac G4 iBook?

Which version of Photoshop Elements would work on my trusty old Apple Mac iBook G4 14-inch laptop?
The newest Mac version of this application, Photoshop Elements 6, requires 64 MB of VRAM but my G4 only has 32 MB. (regarding other system requirements, my G4 has 768 MB of memory and a 1.2 Ghz processor, and runs Mac OS 10.4.11.)
My plan is to go to Ebay and buy some older version of Photoshop Elements but I wanted some direction as to which older version would be best.
    Thanks.

I have the same issue. My girlfriend bought Photoshop Elements 6, but her iBook G4, which is maxed out on conventional RAM, only has 32MB of video. She bought PE 6 as the Apple Store guy told her it would work on a iBook G4. He clearly did not realizing there were some  iBook G4's made with 32MB and some with 64MB of video RAM. But before we break the shrink wrap on the box, which would make it unreturnable, it would be nice to know if anyone has gotten PE 6 to run on a  iBook G4 with only 32MB of RAM. I'm more concerned with whether it works, than whether it is optimal. So, does anyone know if PE 6 will run on a iBook G4 with 32MB of video RAM?
