Deleting older versions of CS 4, CS5.5 after upgrading to CS6

When I installed CS5.5, it was only after I had installed it that I read the notes in the readme file.
It said that I should not attempt to delete the older programs from CS4, as it would probably harm the new files for CS5.5.As a result, I have had a lot odf resources tied up ever since, in disk space and memory allocation and registry info that is not needed to use the updated version.
I just received CS6, and am on the point of installing it. Will the same apply to this version?
If it does, I will have over 10gigabytes of installed programs that will not function properly.
According to Adobe chat, I have to delete the files if I just want CS6. I am loath to do that in case there is a problem during installation of cS6.
Anyone else had this problem?

In the past, when uninstalling older versions, some web sites were left hanging with a complete re-write needed before Dreamweaver could be used to edit them. I'm talking about the time when the switch from asp to PHP took place. Even now, I have web sites that were written in earlier versions of PHP and MySQL that probably could have problems with a new installation of Xamp and CS6.
When doing an upgrade, I usually do it on my latest computer and leave the old version on my older one as backup to allow me to edit older sites.
So thanks for your advice. I will uninstall the program from my current machine, and install the upgrade  on it.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

  • IPTC information reverting to older version when opening in CS5

Ok, I will try to explain this as clearly as I can. I am having an issue with the IPTC information for an image (in this case keywords) reverting to a older version when I open the tiff image in photoshop CS6 compared to CS2.
The keywords were added in ThumbsPlus on a Windows XP computer. On the XP computer the image was edited on, all the keywords are there when the image is opened up in CS2, irrelevant of whether the image is from the folder on that computer, or the version that was copied to my computer (Windows 7).
However when I open up the image in CS5 on my computer (again irrelevant of whether I open my copied version or the one from the XP computer) the keywords viewed in File Info are an older version with words missing. If I create a jpeg file from this tiff it makes it with the older version of the keywords (this might be obvious, just wanted to give all info).
I have randomly had the problem before with other images dropping of the description or again reverting to an older version.
This has only been happening since I have had CS5.

Please bare with me I am a complete novice about these things.. Here is what I did (which didn't work)..
    1. I deleted the app off my phone.
    2. Despite the phone syncing when I plugged my phone into the computer the old version of the app is still showing in my itunes library. (I am still showing that an update is available for it). If I had the new version updates wouldn't be available correct?
    3. Went to my device.. right clicked and selected "Backup".
    4. Synced phone. (Had" My device" open and synced using button on lower right side of the screen).
The sync did not add the app to my phone.

my i tunes downloads new version 3/4 of the way then says it cant delete older version.
    Someone please help

    Many thanks.
yea it wont remove the older version of itunes
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Automatically deleting older version of an item

    Hi,
I am using 9iAS R2 (9.0.2) of portal. I have enabled versioning for the items. I am using "Audit" mode of versioning so that I can keep the old copies of all the items. But as the users go on adding new versions, the repository size is increasing. I was wondering if there is any way I can delete older versions of an item automatically. For eg. I just want the last 10 versions of an item, anything older should be deleted automatically.
    Thanks

This is not currently possible. Something we're planning for a future release.
    Regards,

  • Deleting older versions of software

I'm trying to clean house. Is it safe for me to delete the older versions of iPod and iTunes software that are on my C drive, just so long as I keep the current ones? I always thought the newer software was installed over the old, but apparently not. I certainly don't want to risk losing any of my settings, playlists or music! Thanks.

    Hi Nela,
Deleting old iTunes installers, iPod Updaters, etc. will not affect your iTunes library contents (your music, playlists, etc.), since that is stored in a separate folder than the iPod/iTunes installer files.
So, if the concern is if your iTunes library is at risk or not, you can safely delete those older versions of iTunes. Anyways, if you aren't running that specific version of iTunes, your current one has overridden it already, so you're right about the newer versions installing over the old.
It's just that it doesn't automatically delete the older versions off of your computer, iTunes just runs on the latest installed version.
What you might want to take into consideration, though, is the fact that you might want to keep around a couple of older version iTunes installers, just in case a newer version of iTunes just totally doesn't work for you.
I really don't think that's much of a concern, however, since you can always find many different versions of iTunes on download websites that archive many different versions of iTunes. For example, FileHippo.com has quite a few iTunes versions, 4.8 to the current version, to be exact, up for download here.
In addition, you can find old iPod Updaters on a few websites out there, too.
It won't affect your iTunes libraries, though, to delete older versions of iTunes software (or even your currently installed program, actually) off of your computer. As long as you don't delete a folder called "iTunes Music" (which is inside a folder called "iTunes", which is set in "My Music" by default), you're fine.

  • Deleting older versions

I started off with full version Lightroom 3, then bought the upgrades to v4 & v5. I see the older versions are still sitting on my hard drive taking up space. Can I trash the older versions without losing all my photos ?

Yes. Deleting the older versions will have no impact on your images. The only way that would happen is if you had Lightroom and all of your images in the same folder, and then you deleted that folder. Otherwise, you should be just fine.

  • Deleting older versions of PS

After upgrading to PS6, can I delete the older versions going back to CS3 on my drive?

Yes and no.   You can remove them if you prefer to, but it is not required.  Just make sure you uninstall the programs and don't just delete them.  Be sure to de-activate before uninstalling, just in case you find you need to re-install the older version at a later time.

  • Deleting older versions of LR

I currently have LR 5.7 installed on my PC. I also have versions 3.6 & 3.3 still installed. Do I need to keep the older versions? How will deleting them affect operation of the program and pictures stored in the catalogs?

Open your LR3 catalogs in LR5; you will be asked if you want to convert them to LR5 compatible catalogs. When you answer "Yes" a copy of the catalog will be made which is LR5 compatible. Your edits will be in the Process Version 2010 mode, but you will be able to change the PV setting to 2012 if you wish. If you do so, LR5 will try to retain basically the same editing, but sometimes with more success than at others, so it is probably best to switch the PV on a Virtual Copy. Once you are satisfied that the old catalogs have successfully been integrated into LR5, you can delete the LR3 catalogs and uninstall LR3 (both versions).

  • Unable to delete older version of Apple Software update

hello! when i go to download the new i-tunes program (9.0) i get the following message: "the older version of apple software update can't be removed. contact your technical support". I realize this is an apple forum but has anyone experienced this on their PC? I tried Add/Remove programs and it just won't go away! Any advice?

    (1) First in this reply, let's attend to the technical troubleshooting:
"the older version of apple software update can't be removed. contact your technical support". I tried Add/Remove programs and it just won't go away!
With those symptoms, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
[Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301]
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select any *Apple Software Update* entries and click "Remove".
Next we'll clear away the leftover Apple Software Update files and folders.
Go "Start > My Computer". Open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your program files are installed on. Open "Program Files". Right-click the "Apple Software Update" folder and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
Now download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, and try another iTunes install:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that iTunes install go through properly this time? (It should also reinstall Apple Software Update for you.)
    (2) Now we'll attend to the small miracle that someone has posted *a genuine question about the Apple Software Update for Windows program* in this forum:
I realize this is an apple forum but has anyone experienced this on their PC?
*:) No, no! You've come to exactly the right place! You're literally the first person in over a month to have posted a question about Apple Software Update for Windows in this forum,* which is supposed to be a place to troubleshoot problems with the very program (on the very same PCs) you have posted about. We cherish your presence here!

  • Deleting older versions of Adobe Reader

    I have several versions of Adobe Reader (7.0, 7.0.8, 7.0.9, 8.1.1, 8.1.1, 9.0).
Can the older versions be safely removed from my computer? Without affecting the newest update version 9.0?

On Windows removing one version will break the others. Remove all,
re-install the latest. On Mac, no known issues.
    Mike
