Deleting or Editing Existing Contact Groups

I am still learning my way around the Droid 2's OS.
A. I have been trying to figure out how to delete or edit groups that I created under Contacts.
B. Home button. Sliding one panel to the right you can create shortcuts for frequently used contacts. I was able to define one of them and end up dragging the other two to the trash. How do you add additional ones?

For
A. Open my contacts>menu>display groups
B. Long press on any home screen >select motorola widgets> contact
It will guide you through who you add.

  • Cannot modify or delete an address book contact group

I created an Outlook 2010 contact group in my address book, saved it to my local contacts folder and then copied it to our firm's public Exchange based
folder so all in our company can access it for mailings.   However, once I copied it over it seemed to lock the group,  I can't add or remove contacts and it won't let me delete the entire group either.  This was never a problem before and I
can't find squat as to how to fix it.  Please help!  When I try to double click the group in contacts it says  "Cannot open this item" and when i try to delete it says "operation failed".

By "public Exchange based folder" you mean public folder, right?  Do you have rights on that folder?

  • Powershell To Locate, Create, Delete, and Edit Exchange Contacts

    Hello,
I have been tasked with creating about 160 Exchange contacts. I'm finding that some of the email address listed are secondary email addresses for other users. I am in need of assistance for the following.
    - Determine which contacts in my list have already been created.
    - Determine which addresses on my list are already in Exchange as secondary SMTP addresses for different contacts/mailboxes.
    - For the addresses that are not in Exchange I will need to mass create them.
    - For the existing contacts that have addresses in my list, I will need to delete the secondary SMTP that matches ones in my list and create a new contact for the SMTP.
Really not sure how to work this one. Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Green-Tech,
Please refer to this script to start, which can delete secondary SMTP addresses based on the string pattern "*@domain.local":
    Get-MailContact -OrganizationalUnit "domain.local/OU" -Filter {EmailAddresses -like "*@domain.local"} -ResultSize unlimited -IgnoreDefaultScope | foreach {
    $contact = $_
    $email = $contact.emailaddresses
    $email | foreach {
    if ($_.smtpaddress -like "*@domain.local") {
    $address = $_.smtpaddress
    write-host "Removing address $address from Contact $contact.name
    Set-Mailcontact -Identity $contact.identity -EmailAddresses @{Remove=$address}
    $contact | set-mailcontact -emailaddresspolicyenabled $false} }}
    Refer to:
Powershell script to delete secondary SMTP addresses of Exchange 2010 Mail Contacts
I also recommend you can post your current script and specific issue for a better response.
If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Can I edit my contacts on a PC?

Most PDAs allow you to edit/add contacts, etc. either on the mobile device or on the computer you sync to. It is far quicker and easier to type on a full keyboard than thumbing the iPhone virtual keyboard, especially if you have many to enter. I don't use Outlook, so that isn't an option. iTunes doesn't seem to even display your contacts. Is there another means (besides Outlook syncing) of editing/adding contacts info on the PC and then syncing them to the iPhone? I'd be happy with a 3rd party solution if there is one.
    Thanks in advance.

What do you use on your PC for contact info?
On a PC running XP, the iPhone supports syncing with Outlook 2003 or 2007 for contact info and calendar events, and with the address book used by Outlook Express for contact info only.
If you aren't currently using the address book used by Outlook Express - it doesn't include any contact info, enter one contact in this address book before syncing your iPhone contact info with this address book. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info with this address book, which you want to select. This will transfer all contact info from your iPhone's address book to this address book on your computer.
You choose this address book to sync with under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences.
After the initial merge, you can enter additional contacts or edit existing contact info with this address book on your computer followed by a sync, and any contact info entered with your iPhone's address book will be transferred to this address book on your computer when syncing.

  • HT201210 When I go to my contacts function for my phone and do search, or try to edit a contact, my keypad won't come up.  It seems to come up on all other apps.  Any idea what the problem is?

The keypad doesn't come up on the phone, contacts function.  I can't search by typing in a name or edit existing contacts.  Keypad works on other functions.  Any ideas what is going on?

I'll guess that you are taping into the search bar in Contacts? If so, why not try forcing closed the contacts app. Double tap on the home button and find the contacts app and swipe upwards on the thumbnail of the app. Then tap the home button to close. Next hold the sleep/wake and home button together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot and will have no affect on your data. After the phone reboots, check to see if it functions.

  • How can I move an existing contact to a group in iPad Contacts?

I have a years worth of contact information stored before the last update which added the Group option, this is great for new contacts being added but I can see no way to move the existing contact from All Contacts to Customer etc. short of re-typing 400 contacts . .
    Any ideas?

    Hey Jerry,
I've got the same question.  I've figured out a very un-elegant way (because I don't think that Apple has a way to do this with IOS) to "move" existing contacts from either 1) your iPad's Contacts "All Contacts" list to an existing Group, or 2) to add it from a Contacts list on another computer:
    1) If you haven't already made a new Group, you may need to figure out how to do that ( I don't).
If you already have an existing Group (from syschronizing with your iMac for example), but wish to "move" a Contact over into that Group, then you'll have to take that Contact file (it was probably under "All Contacts"), and "Share" it with the same iPad that you're using.  First, you'll have to go to the already existing Group, and hit the "+" sign on the lower left panel.  When the new blank Contact page opens up, merely type in the Last name of the contact which you wish to be in this Group.  Hit the "Done" button.  Next, go into "All Contacts", find the Contact that you wish to move into the desired Group.  When you are looking at the opened Contact File, you will see three active links (buttons) at the bottom: "Send Message", "Share Contact", and "Edit".  Select Share Contact.  You then either Email or Message yourself at the iPad's email address.  Go to Mail or Messages (depending upon which you chose to Share the .vcf file), open the recently received email/message, and touch the icon for the "attached" file.  At the bottom of the Contacts window that just opened up you will see "Create New Contact" and "Add to Existing Contact".  Choose the "Add" option, then navigate to the desired Group, and then the file Contact file (having only what you initially filled in, such as the last name, or whatever you used to initialize the Contact within the Group). Voila!  Although it won't have looked like anything happened, you can close the email message, and go investigate within the desired Group to see that your contact file has indeed been added to the Group.
Whew! That was pretty convoluted.  Once you've done it, you'll get it.  Once you get it you'll probably wonder out loud: "Why hasn't Apple made this simpler...or it it has, why haven't they let us in on the secret?????"
    Cheers.

  • Deleting Empty Contact Group? iCloud contact syncing issues.

I have two contact groups on my iPhone with no contacts in them.  How do I delete them from my iPhone?  They are annoying. I have read multiple threads on this topic and still can't figure it out.
Also, after backing up to iCloud - not one of my 84 contacts actually backed up?  Is there some setting I am missing? Only one contact showed up and it was my own name and email address?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Best way is to use a 3rd party app managing groups. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.
Launch it, all your groups will automatically appear
    Tap on "Edit"
Tap on red cross next to the groups you want to delete

  • Delete duplicate Contacts Groups

Previously I sync'd Contacts from My Mac, but recently starting using Mobile.me on my iPhone 3GS. Now under Contacts/Groups I have the old data from My Mac syncs and the new Groups coming from Mobile.me. How can I purge the old My Mac groups off the phone without loosing other valuable stuff like Notes, etc.

Select the  title you want to delete on your left,
go to Edit in the Menubar
    and choose
    Delete Group

  • Deleting Duplicate Contact Group

So... I sync'd my contacts "from my mac" while I was already syncing with MobileMe, and now I have duplicates of all my contacts, and as such I would like to delete the "All from My Mac" group.
In searching for a solution, I found various older posts all of which basically said that you cannot delete an entire contact group on an iPhone. But as the most recent post I found was 6 months old, I am wondering if anybody out there has any new insight they can provide to solve this mildly annoying situation?
    Lance.

To get rid of the duplicate contacts caused by syncing with both MobileMe and your computer:
    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe account > Contacts > "OFF"
    2. You will be asked what you want to do with previously synced contacts - select "Delete from my iPhone".
    3. Connect your phone to iTunes, go to device page, info tab and disable sync contacts.
    4. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe acct > Contacts > "ON"
    5. You will then get message: "There are existing contacts synced with your Mac. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?" Choose "Do not merge."
    6. You will then be asked: "What would you like to do with the existing contacts on your iPhone?" Choose "Delete."
    7. In a couple of minutes your phone will sync back your contacts from MobliMe, without the duplicate copy from your computer.
If you also have duplicate Calendar entries, do the same process with calendars - can be done at the same time.

  • Deleting Stubborn Contact Group from iPhone

I created a new Group in my contacts on MobileMe and it was synced to my iPhone 3G just fine and it also appeared in my contacts on the Mac. I then deleted the Group on MobileMe and (there were no contact in it) and it was also deleted from my Mac. However, no matter what I do, I can not get that Group name to delete itself from the iPhone for some reason. Everything else is syncing just fine.
Is there a way to delete contact groups directly from the iPhone? The group does not exist anymore on MobileMe or in my contacts on the Mac.

    Hi prosumer,
One thing to try that might help out.
Go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > your mobile me account.
Here you will be able to turn off contact syncing.
This will remove the contacts and groups from your iphone.
Wait for a few minutes, then turn contact syncing back on.
It will take a few minutes to sync back, based on the amount of contacts you have.
    Hope this helps.

  • Syncing to selected contact group wants to delete files outside of it

    Hello -
I am trying to sync my iPhone contacts to my address book in a specific way. In my address book, I have my personal contacts - friends and family. I also have mailing list subscribers (which gets into the 1,000s - people with whom I am not personally connected). I copied all of my personal contacts into a separate group and selected that group under the iPhone sync options in iTunes. I also checked the box marked "add contacts created outside of groups in this iPhone to" and again chose the special "personal contacts only" group.
However, when I go to actually sync, I get a pop-up box saying that so many contacts will be added (to my laptop), so many contacts will be modified, and so many contacts will be deleted. Which ones are getting deleted? All the ones that are not on my phone, so basically all of my mailing list, non-personal contacts.
Isn't the point of syncing specific contact groups so that you can have your phone dialogue with that particular folder and nothing else - leaving anything outside of that folder alone?
Just to test it out though, I changed the sync setting to "all contacts" to see what would happen, and I get the same message (it's basically going to delete anything that's on my laptop, but not currently on my phone). Why does this happen? Isn't the whole idea of synchronization that the two devices end up having the same file lists? How can I get the iPhone to populate any contacts I added on it to a specific group on my laptop, and vice versa. Seems like they should populate each others lists with missing pieces, rather than one taking the other one over and deleting, well, anything (unless I tell it to).
And no, I do not have any of the advanced overwrite functions enabled.
Does anybody have a solution to this problem? I'd like to sync my contacts, but obviously don't need 2,000 names of people I don't personally know taking up space on my phone.
Thanks for any advice you all can provide!

I think MobileMe is all or nothing--I asked a chat agent a few months back, and that was the case, haven't seen any reports or UI changes.
Send them feedback--it would be great to select Groups and Calendars.
