Deleting Original Pictures Question?

I just started using iPhoto. Prior to that I had all my pictures organized in folders by event. I imported all my pictures in iPhoto and almost everything was correct. For about 500 photos they dates we wrong causing the events to be out of order. I changed all the dates to the correct dates. I looked in the package contents on the iPhoto library file and noticed that there is a modified folder and an original folder. My question is relating to that... I compared the two folders and found that when I modified the date it created an entire new file in the modified folder... but it did not delete the original. I can understand keeping the original if you ever want to revert back or something... but all I did was change the date. I don't see the point in having two copies of the same picture, only with different dates.
Is there anyway to delete those originals without manually going through original directory and comparing the files to the modified directory???
Thank in advance!

Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • Problem deleting Original Pictures in ApertureDatabase

Since installation of OS-X Leopard I can no longer delete any picture inside may projects in my Aperure database. Neither in my old library nor in a completely new one.
Has anybody made the same experience?
Can anybody give me a useful hint what I can do?
    Tx.

1 - I'm not clear on your question but remember the primary rule of iPhoto (and all database programs) is NEVER use the finder or any other program to delete or modify the contents of the database (the iPhoto library) - DO NOT use the finder to delete anything in the iPhoto library
2 - if you select a photo in an event in iPhoto and delete it (press the delete key or drag it to the iPhoto trash) and then empty the iPhoto trash and teh system trash the photo is totally gone from the system
If this is not happening then you have a corrupted library and need to Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
If the "originals folder" you created is outside the iPhoto library then you are in chare of it and must delete form it - iPhoto never does anything to anty think that is not in its library
In the iPhoto preferences have you unchecked the preference to copy imported items to the iPhoto library?
as to Lightroom - it is totally sepearte from iPhoto and does basically the same thing in a different way - to use photos in it you export tehm from iPhoto and import to LR - do not have LR directly access the contents of the iPhoto library - or have iPhoto directly access the contents of a LR library - they must  be seperate

  • How do I delete "original" pictures?

Is there a way to delete the original picture that iPhoto has? When I make changes (brightness, contrast, red-eye reduction, etc...) it keeps the original in the library and makes a copy with the new image. (I believe this is called non-destructive editing???)
Anyway, I don't want all this wasted space with the original photos I will never use. How can I clean up my library and regain that space?

    Tim:
That's not easily doable in iPhoto 7. iPhoto is set up so that you always have a copy of the digital negative, i.e. original file. If you really have to do that then you can do the following (but it's not recommended as you can damage the library if done improperly):
1 - open the iPhoto library package and locate the modified file in the Modified folder.
2 - copy the modified file to the Originals folder containing the original version of that file and replace it.
3 - in iPhoto select that file and execute the Revert to Original.
This deletes the modified file and takes you back to the original which has been replaced by the modified.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Deleting original pictures

Is there a progam that allows me to delete the originals of pictures? I have tried iphoto diet, but that does not allow you to delete individually. Also it is too time consuming to go through the iphoto library folders to find the originals.

  • Is there a way to Quickly organize, consolidate & save the Original (Pictures, Movies, etc.) yet delete all duplicate (Pictures, Movies, etc.)?

Is there a way to Quickly organize, consolidate & save the Original (Pictures, Movies, etc.) yet delete all duplicate (Pictures, Movies, etc.)?

I wanted to first thank you for this, as this is the only workaround literature that seems to be floating around out there.  With that said, I know it is a big ask, but is there any way that you could create a video showing step by step how to do what you do?  I have several tracks that are stuck in waiting mode, and if left in itunes, will never upload or match...they only cause the upload process to hang up and restart.  I've tried leaving it for days...I've tried converting the files, signing in and out of itunes (and itunes match), updating itunes match, and I tried your technique...unfortunately to no avail.  Perhaps I didn't do your technique correctly.  I used audacity to reverse the audio.
ANY help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
    Thanks

  • Original Pictures Deleted?!?

    Hello,
I have a very bad problem...not too long ago I put a lot of pictures on my iPod nano and they everything worked fine! But then I plugged in my iPod a few times to chance some songs...now I wanted to look at some pictures I took(5000) and they are all gone! somehow itunes deleted those pictures! Did anyone have had the same prob as i do?? I want my pictures back...what would be the best solution?
Im waiting for quick responses! THanks!
    luc

the programm somehow deleted the ORIGINAL pictures!!
Where are you saying it deleted the originals? From your iPod or from your computer?
The original pictures should be on your computer.
Are they still in the folder you selected in iTunes prefs -> iPod - Photo tab?
The originals are only copied to the iPod if you open iTunes prefs -> iPod - Photo tab and check Copy full resolution photos to iPod.
If this box is not checked, to save space, iTunes will only load a small version of the picture onto the iPod.

  • IPhoto for iOS : Impossible to delete modified pictures ! Bug ?

    Hi everyone,
Just downloaded iPhoto for iOS yesterday. Amazing apps except for one thing.
It seems that it's impossible to delete a modified picture and the modified pictures album !
I even tried to delete the original one in the Photos app but now I can't see my original (which is fine) but I'm still seeing the modified version !
Do I really need to delete the app and reinstall it in order to delete the picture ?
    Thanks.

    Are you sure ?
Couple of questions if so :
-> every time I make a change to a picture there's the "modified pictures" album that gets created. If I delete the original picture, the modified one stays here forever even if I revert to original. Impossible to delete ?
-> I you only have one picture in your library and you hide it, it's impossible to acces it again. I had to take another picture to show the first one ! It's not a bug ?

  • Delete original file (from camera)

    Hi all,
I use iPhoto and Photoshop on my Mac for different purposes: iPhoto for family events and travel that I won't be doing much (if any) editing to, and Photoshop (Elements 7) for my hobby photography pictures.
I got on Photoshop this morning to import some recent photos from my camera, hooked things up as always, opened Bridge CS3, and selected File>Get photos from camera.
For some reason, I can't find the Delete Original Files checkbox in the Photo Downloader screen (whereas it shows up here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Bridge/2.0/help.html?content=WSEC378273-AF69-4a1e-9CD8-10 8420C556ED.html). I could be totally wrong, but thought I've always done things this way in the past to reduce a lot of tiny-camera-button-clicking through tons of photos.
Did this button disappear with a version update? Do I have some other option set incorrectly to not allow this one to appear? Or has the button never been there, and if not, is there a way to delete photos in mass from my camera?
Thanks for any & all help,
    Lori Ann

    Lori
What you saw was a screenshot of Bridge CS4, somewhat misleading regarding the URL mention Bridge 2.0 in fact it is Bridge 3.0 that comes with CS4. And for some strange reason they added this option to Photodownloader CS4, IMO that energy could have been used better...
However as per Ramón, using this way is also in my opinion not the best way to work. If you don't want or have a card reader (again, not wise :-) ) then only download image from the camera and after this disconnect the camera and use the camera menu itself to format the CF card and start with a fresh and empty CF card.
BUT, don't do this before you have checked if the files you have copied to the computer are OK to open and again a wise thing would be to first make a back-up (if you study the downloader options a little you will see that this is also an option you can (or in fact should) use.

  • Deleting a picture in iPhoto AND the file in the finder at once

How can I delete a picture in iPhoto and also delete the file of that picture in the finder in one step? In iTunes the program asks the question if the real file should be deleted also.

If you're running a Managed library then put the pic in the iPhoto trash and empty it. Note to do this you have to be viewing in an Event or Photos view, not in an album.
If you're running a Referenced Library, you can't. When you elected not to have iPhoto manage the files on import, you also elected not to have it manage the files on deletion.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • How can i delete a picture from camera roll without deleting everywhere

how can i delete a picture in camera roll without deleting everywhere

You can't, when you 'copy' a photo into an album that you've created directly on the iPad then you are effectively just creating a pointer to the photo and not creating a second copy of it - so if you then delete the original photo from your iPad you will also be deleting all pointers to it and therefore removing it from other albums.

  • How can i find the original picture in the correct event folder from an album folder picture?

how can i find the original picture in the correct event folder from an album folder picture? I can find the link to the original event folder, but is there a way to get right to the picture without having to search visually the event folder?

    Depends on whatr you mean
Deleting from your phone does not delete from anywhere else
HOWEVER deleting from your Photo stream does delete from the Photostream so anyone looking at the PS from any device will no longer see the photo
But if your Mac iPhoto is set to automatically impor tphotos form PS or is you have manually imported photos from PS then onc ethey are imported they are on your Mac and change to PS will not affect them

  • In iPHOTO it won't let me "choose any of the original pictures to include in an email or even copy and paste them else where? Why ?

In iPHOTO I can highlight a photo to include in an email, but after I select the a photo, the "choose" box will not darken to let me choose that photo or any of my original photos to put them in an email or even to copy and paste them else where.
The only changes I have done is the original photos were taken with a different digital camera from the one I use currently.  The newer digital cameras photos can be selected and emailed just fine.  What is not being recognized by the iPHOTO programing as to not let me select (choose) to older photos taken by the older original digital camera?

Thanks for the response to my query on emailing photos from iPHOTO.  To answer your questions:
    1. When I first connected my new digital camera to my iMAC and installed it's program from it disk, all went well and that program with Icons are currently on my desk top.  When I down loaded pictures from this new camera into iPHOTO, I was asked if all pictures from this camera were to be down loaded into iPHOTO only, I answered yes.
    2. I did nothing to the photos in iPHOTO, they are my original pictures setup in various groups and are not thumbnail copies of the originals.
    3. And yes, I have tried to attach photos from iPHOTO directly into an email message in both Apple's MAIL program and even through my AOL service provider account to no avail. I get the same issues of not being able to choose older pictures for insertion in an email message, only newer pictures taken with the new camera.
    4. I have even gone back into my external back files and restored older versions of iPHOTO and the same thing happens.
    5. I have even thought of uninstalling the unused new camera's desk top files, but since there is nothing in these files and both my new and older cameras are Canon models, I can see no issues for removing the new camera files?
I hope this extra detail is lear to you and again tell for your assistants.

  • How do i get the original picture of a song on itunes?

I replaced the picture of a song on itunes. I can't find a way to get the original picture back. Any ideas?

    Seelct the song.
    Get Info.
    Click the Artwork tab.
If it has the original AND the new, click the new to highlight it and press "Delete" on your keyboard.
If it doesn't have the original, Google the album cover, delete the new one as above, and drag the original to the Artwork box in the Info pane. Click OK and you've reset the artwork.

  • How do you permanently delete iPhoto pictures in OS X 10.9?

A few months ago we upgraded our 2010 Macbook Pro to the latest software.  We moved a bunch of stuff to an external harddrive, reinstalled the disks, and upgraded it.  When we deleted pictures off of it then, you went to the pictures folder and deleted everything.  Well, my computer is getting full again and I'm trying to make some space.  I moved 80gb of photos to my external hard drive.  When I deleted those pictures from iPhoto (and iPhoto trash), they're still on the computer somewhere.  I can't find them, but I have no more space on my computer.  I tried finding my iPhoto cache in my iPhoto folder but couldn't seem to locate it the way it was explained online.  All I want to do is delete these pictures.

Silly question but are you seeing the source Mac's drive mounted on the server?  What connection type are you using for target disk mode?  Thunderbolt?  Firewire?
To be honest, building a whole NetRestore setup for 5 more machines is likely not worth your time.  Unless this is a lab and you are going to be frequently re-imaging the devices, you might be better served by simply cloning your master to the remaining 5 machines.
Network Image Utility is also notoriously slow.  Even a modest 20 GB image over TB will likely take two hours to complete.  In that time you could easily clone a DMG of the master and lay it down on the remaining machines.  Assuming that you only need the NetRestore for this initial imaging round, this would likely be faster.
Start your master system from its recovery partition or from the thumb drive or other boot volume.  Use Disk Utility and select your master drive.  Press the New Image button and create a compressed DMG of your master drive, saving it to another location like an external drive.  When the DMG creation is complete, select the DMG from Disk Utility's sidebar and go the Images menu and choose Scan Image for Restore.
Once complete, you can use the Restore Tab of Disk Utility to clone the DMG to the other machines.  Drag the captured DMG into the source field and then the drive you want to clone it to to the destination.
You will likely finish all 5 machines before Network Image Utility would capture the net restore image.

  • Deleting original images in referenced library

Stupid question - but how do you delete original images in a referenced library?  I have used the function "File>Delete original image and all versions" and I thought that this had permanently deleted some originals that I didn't want - but when I look in finder, they're still there on the hard drive, they just don't display any more in Aperture.  I can't believe you have to go and find the original file in finder to delete it...?  What have I missed?
    Thanks!

OK, have worked out that when I empty the aperture trash I need to tick the little box that says 'move referenced files to system trash' or something like that...
So...next question: how do I get the files that I've failed to delete properly back into Aperture so I can delete them properly - given that I don't know what files they are...
