Deleting photo from photostream = gone from my PC?

1. If I delete a photo from my Photostream album on my iPhone or iPad, will it delete it from the Photostream directory on my PC?
2. If I delete or move a photo from the Photostream directory on my PC, will it delete it feom all my iOS devices?
3. What happens to photos in the Photostream on my iOS devices after 30 days?  Does it dissappear from my iOS devices?
If "yes", then will it dissappear from the Photostream directory on my PC too after 30 days?
Thanks.
Any document that describes these sync behaviors?

Now you've taught me something!! I just tested and you are correct.
#2 I tested and the answer is still NO.
#3 I've got pics in my photostream album on my iPhone that are more than a year old.
My original understanding of how this worked was from the first link I sent you:
Master photo library. On your Mac or PC.
Keeping a complete set of your photos on your Mac is as simple as turning on Photo Stream in iPhoto or Aperture. Every new photo you take appears in a Photo Stream album just as it does on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. But since your Mac has more storage than your iOS device, it automatically imports every picture from your Photo Stream into your photo library so you can edit, delete, and share the ones you want. Want to get the photos you’ve taken on your point-and-shoot or DSLR camera into your Photo Stream to view on all your other devices? The photos you import to your library from a camera or SD card are automatically uploaded to your Photo Stream. If you have a PC, you can auto-import and upload pictures, too. Just turn on Photo Stream, grab a camera, and start shooting.

    Hi all,
I plugged in my phone, went to my computer, iphone, storage, and deleted photos from there. But in my phones photostream, they are still there. Why is that?

  • I still don't totally understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4.

I  don’t  understand the difference on my iPhone between PhotoStream (with iCloud icon), Photos (the icon) and Albums and Camera Roll (under Photos icon) and and Camera Roll (under Camera icon).  They seem to be more or less the same thing, but deleting photos in one place does not delete them elsewhere.
When I tried to import from my camera to my iMac computer the computer would not recognized 900 of the 920 photos on the camera so I had to (successfully) use the Image Capture application to import them.
I want to delete photos from my iPhone 4 in order to free up storage (I only have 8GB.)  But in synching I do not want to delete any images from my iPhoto on my computer.
Is there a way that I can Delete All under Edit in either Photos or Camera on my iPhone and check about 20 ijmages to remain on the iPhone?  I could find no command to Select All and then uncheck the 20 photos I want to keep.
I have the 8GB iPhone and the iMac with OS 10.9.2 and iPhoto '09 Version 8.1.2.
    Help!

I have Version 6.1.3 because the clogged storage will not allow me to upload Version 7.1.  Catch 22.  This is basically a storage issue, I believe.  I cannot delete enough stuff on my iPhone to allow me to either back up or upload the new OS 7.  I am unwilling to pay for more storage in iCloud, so I want to delete stuff I don't need.  But I haven't yet figured out how to successfully do that.  I synch my phone and computer.  I want to delete mail on the Mail app and photos and still keep my photos on my computer on iPhoto, but not on my phone.  I seem unable to do that.  Any advice?

When deleting photos from the camera rol, sometimes the delete action triggers the deletion of the photo in the photostream as well, sometimes not.  What triggers this and how to prevent the photo to be deleted from the photostream as well ?

  • I can't delete photos from photostream

I'm totally freaking out because I have some really BAD photos on my photostream.  I don't even know how they got there.  I deleted them from my computer soon after uploading them and I deleted them from my camera, but when I try to delete them from my photostream by selecting a photo and then hitting "delete" I just get an error beep.  No message, no disappearring photo, nothing.  What is wrong?  I don't have any other photostream enabled devices.

    Kari,
what is your MacOS X version and  iPhoto version?
If you cannot  delete photos from the iLifeAssetManagement folder, then you have a permissions problem. You should be able to do that. Try to fix the permissions for that part of your User Library.
Navigate again to the  iLifeAssetManagement folder as described above. Then select the Folder and press ⌘I (clover leaf, capital letter I) for "Get Info". You shoud see an ifo panel like this:
Disclose the "Sharing & Permissions" brick by pressing the disclosure triangle. Press the padlock in the lower right corner and enter your administrator password. Make sure your user account .....(Me) has Rad &Write permissions, change the permissions if necessary. Then click the padlock and select to apply to enclosed items.
Then try again, if you now can delete photos from the Stream.

I have had nothing but problems after downloading Lion and turning on ICloud. Can anyone tell if I can delete photos from Photostream and if not why not! it is infuriating

PhotoStream is purely a conduit for transferring pictures added to or taken on one device onto all the others seamlessly. Photos are held there only for 30 days. There is no way of accessing, viewing or deleting individual photos; you can reset the entire Photostream, erasing everything.

  • 3.2.3 Update To delete photos from photostream

All the software is updated. Aperture 3.2.3. iOS 5.1.
Aperture updates suggests that you can delete photos from photostream and it will delete the same pictures on all devices.
I can delete the pictures, but it doesn't delete the pictures on my other devices.
    Any suggestions?

As Clem says... but if that doesn't fix everything, some people have had to go to iCloud.com and clear the Photo Stream (you can only clear the whole thing there). But if you need to do this, first make sure all your Photo Stream images are saved somewhere. You can add them back once you've cleared it.
This ApertureExpert thread describes what I'm talking about.

  • Deleting photos from photostream

Prior to Yosemite I could delete photos from my camera roll and they would remain in photo stream (or "iCloud" when working with the computer vs the iPhone).  I liked that option, but now when I delete a photo from camera roll, it also deletes it from photo stream.  Is this the new default?  Is there a setting I can change?

This is screenshot when thumbnail is tapped. There's the edit button! But...
There's NO delete button. Can't even delete them one at a time

I mistakenly deleted photos from my photo.  Any way to recover them?

You may be able to find them:

    - your computer if they were imported
if they are noty in either of these locations then I'm sorry they are gone.

  • With icloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from camera roll. I run an older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. Can I transfer pics from i stream to camera roll to allow a non-icloud back up to my PPC? Precious photos are close to 30 day cut-off

With i cloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from Camera Roll to make space knowing I would have them backed up on icloud via Photo Stream. I now find that my older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. I have an ipad3 too, which of course does. I want to copy photos from Photo Stream back to Camera Roll on the phone so that I can back up "old school" to iphoto on my ancient mac. The controls seem to suggest that as an option but when I select multiple photos in Photo Stream and select "Save to Camera Roll" the photos do not appear on Camera Roll as expected. I am running close to the 30 day limit and do not want to lose hundreds of precious photos (or have to email them to myself individually). Can the ipad3 help at all? Any ideas good people? Dan

If only it were that easy Winston. I connect with a USB cable, iphoto opens and I can only see the photos in Camera Roll, not Photo Stream. There does not seem to be a way of aceessing other files in the phone from iphoto and, as in my initial message, I can not transfer the photos to Camera Roll on the phone. My iphone and ipad software is up to date, but my iphoto is '08 version 7.1.5 with my mac running 10.5.8 which is the best I can do on the PPC without messing everything up.  I dont have the dough for a new mac or I would have gone for that option...am I stuck?

The only way you can do that is to import them into your library first, but you may have done that already.
The easiest way to tell is to select a photo from the photostream album in iPhoto and ctrl-click on it, if it gives you the option to import it isn't in your iPhoto library, if it offers you the option to show in library it has already been imorted.

  • Deleting Photos from iPhone

How do I delete synced photos from my iPhone? I don't have any problems deleting photos from my camera roll, but the "Devices Downloaded Files" and "My Photos" Folders i can't delete from. I've gone into iTunes and unchecked "Sync Photos from", and it says it will remove the photos from the iPhone when it syncs again but it hasn't yet. Any thoughts?

One thing that might help out.
When you sync photos via itunes, it tries to make a mirror copy of the source.
So, if you are syncing photos from a folder, this might help.
When you add photos to the folder and sync the iphone, itunes copies the new photos to the iphone.
To remove synced photos from the iphone, remove them from the folder you are syncing from.
    Then sync the iphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Deleting photos from HD

I see a lot of threads concerning deleting photos from the HD via iPhoto, but they all seem to be for previous versions of iPhoto, and none of those solutions seem to work for iPhoto 08.
So... Does anyone know how to delete a photo permanently from the HD through iPhoto 08? The command - delete - empty trash thing does not work here!
I have the photos stored on my HD in the Pictures directory under Places in Finder. Deleting them via iPhoto seems to be an impossible task!

    jkluker:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you determining that the photos are not getting deleted from the library? Is your library a managed library (i.e. the photos are copied into the iPhoto library during import) or a referenced library (photos are not copied during import and only alias files are created in the library). If it's the latter you have to manually delete the "source" photos from the HD. If it's a managed library then you have something wrong with the library.
First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and see if that makes any difference. Next, if needed launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
If neither of the above helped create a test library, import a few photos and see if you can delete the photos from it and from the HD in the process. You'll have to open the library package to verify is the photos are truly gone. If they do delete properly your primary library is the problem.
If you're still having problems log into another account, create a test library and see if photos get deleted completely there. If they do your primary account is the culprit. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how you can check it out:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

they are still there. I now know about the recycle bin thanks to you. Does
this get rid of them from the computer.?
Another puzzeling factor is that when refreshing thumbnails I saw many of
them had tag symbol, something I ve never used! So don’t understand that.
Further point... when I looked in windows -my pictures there were some
pictures in file-folders and most of them not. How do I get them all into to
those yellow folders to organise them better.? Thanks for help, much
    appreciated. S.
Files exist in the Windows "Recycle Bin" until you empty it. To do that, you would right click on the icon, then select "Empty Recycle Bin", then they're gone forever, no turning back.
Tags, once written to a photo are forever. The only explanation I have for this, would be one; if these are downloaded photos, tags may have been set by the originator, or possibility two; a data base faiilure in PSE may be picking up tags that are actually on another one of your photos. If the tags are in fact, not a tag that you've created, then the former is likely the explanation.
As far as creating individual folders for photos, that's rather easy to do. First you pick a location, whether it is another drive , or a separate folder within "My Pictures", the copy the pictures from the camera card directly to there with Windows "copy and paste". After that, you can drag them into the organizer, or use "File" > "Get Photos from Files and Folders" to import them to PSE.
That being said, once a photo is where you want it, and has been imported to PSE....DO NOT further tamper with it in Windows.
IMO, you need to learn a bit more about negotiating and creating the files and folders in Windows itself, before you try to set up a file and folder system for your images. PSE is the "great babysitter" when it comes to guiding inexperienced users to their images.
That said, when PSE screws up, we still wind up answering a lot of paniced user's questions, all of whom think the PSE has "lost all their images".

Nope I am using the same Photo Library, not the camera roll and by the looks of it you don't have your iphone updated to the newst version because I have an extra field in the bottom bar for photostreaming.
