Deleting photos from Photo Stream?

I've updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 and delete some photos from my Photo Stream. Why it is still appearing in my MacBook's iPhoto's Photo Stream? Is there any way to delete them from iPhoto?

The new deleting from Photo Stream feature in iOS 5.1 will only only delete it on the device itself, not from iCloud.
To delete in iPhoto, just right click (control + click) on a photo and click Delete from Photo Stream.

  • Deleting photo stream from iPad but not other devices

I created a photo stream last year to share pictures with my relatives. It shows up on my iMac, my wife's MBP and my iPad as well as the relatives computers and phones.  Now another relative has created a stream for this year and it currently appears on all of those devices.
I would like to delete the old photo stream from just my iPad  to free up some much needed space while leaving it on the other devices. I also want to keep receiving pictures in the new photo stream which appears to mean I cannot turn off iCloud. When I click edit and click on the X at the corner of the old photos stream, it says it is going to delete it from all devices.
How can I just delete the old one from just my iPad?

This is not possible as far as I know. The best option would be to save the photos from that photo stream to a computer using iPhoto or Aperture and then disband the photo stream (giving the other shared members plenty of notice so they can nab those photos to local storage as well).

  • How do I delete Photo Stream from Win XP PC

I have turned off Photo Steam on one of my 2 iPads, and both iphones, and should only have 30 pics in Photo Stream from the 1st iPad. However, when I look at photo stream on Apple TV, I have all of the photos that were ever in photo stream (hundreds). I have reset my iCloud photo stream online to empty, but I can't get rid of all those phoptos that I don't want. I can't install iCloud control panel, as I only have an XP, and I don't find the photos in the C dive/Users.
Where would I find the photos?

    Maybe it is answered here

  • If I delete photo streams on my iPad, will they also be deleted from iPhoto on my Mac?

WWill deleting photos on my iPad also delete them in iPhoto on my Mac?

Yes, unless you either enabled automatic import in iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud (see below), or you select the photos in iPhoto, then control-click and choose Import before deleting them from your iPad.

  • How do I delete Photo Stream photos that are taking up hard drive space in my Masters folder, but not actually appearing in any event, or on the interface at all?

A couple months ago, I activated photo stream using my apple ID. I was under the impression that all the photos uploaded to my photo stream would only use server space on icloud and wouldn't actually utilize disk space, or at the most, the option was available to only download specific photos to my hard drive. My hope was that I could upload the photos to a specific drive, and view the uploaded thumbs or low-res comps on any device as a reference.
    This is not the case.
What I have found is that iphoto has been automatically downloading any and all photos uploaded to my photo stream. Not just the thumbnails, the entire thumbnail + all resolutions. I shoot RAW photos so in my case, the original averages about 15-25MB per photo.
I have been uploading directly to an iphoto library on an external hard drive specifically designated for handling all my RAW high-res images.
What has been happening is all those RAW files are also being uploaded directly to my iphoto library on my iMac and eating up memory which I cannot reclaim, even after deactivating my Photo Stream in preferences. We're talking almost 100 GB of memory is tied up right now.
I don't want to just go in and start deleting files and folders in my Masters folder, since I have heard this will break iphoto, but the photos in my photostream do not show up in any event and I need to reclaim the hard drive space.
How can I safely delete them?

If the files are loose inside the iPhoto library package here's one way to get them out:
1 - open your library, select all of the photos in the library and add a unique keyword, XXXX,  to all of them.
2 - Rebuild the library with  iPhoto Library Manager  as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
3 - open the library, create a smart album with the criterial "Keyword is not XXXX".
4 - the smart album will include those photos that were not visible in your original library. Select them and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move them to the iPhoto Trash bin.
5 - empty the iPhoto Trash bin via the iPhoto ➙ Empty iPhoto Trash Bin menu option.
6 - empty the Trash bin in the Dock to remove the files from your hard drive completely.
Be sure to read Note 1 above.  You can use the new library without your books, slideshow, etc. and it will not  contain those errant files.  Of course delete the original library if the new one is satisfactory.

  • HT204022 How to restore photos deleted photo stream???

I'm a bit of a newbee to forums and macs....
I have an iphone and have always manually used the USB and copy & paste photos onto my PC.
A couple of days ago I installed iCloud onto my PC which installed Okay and created a new photo steam folder as part of the installation.
Unfortunately, none of the existing photos in photo steam stored on my iphone moved across to my PC photo steam folder.... I read a forum that said you need to go into the photo steam folder on the PC, right click into properties and unselect the tick box for read only, which I did .... it still didn't start adding photos onto my PC, so I thought it was fair to say the icloud program wasn't working on the my PC like it should be.
Given that I thought it was pointless having a photo steam folder on my iphone and on the icloud site, so I deleted the photo stream photos off my iCloud account as I thought they wouldn't upload on my PC anyway so what was the point in having them using up my free 5GB of storage.
The next day to my horror I've discovered iCloud has deleted every single iphone photo I have (including the birth of my first born child) off my PC!!!!!!! These are photos I have always manually used the USB and copy pasted photos onto my PC so thought there was no way these would be effected by iCloud anyway ..... how wrong was I.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
Is there anyway I can  recover these deleted photo steam photos?

Open you photo stream photos in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to delete, then tap Delete.  This will delete them from your phone and from your photo stream and any other devices that are connected to your photo stream.

  • HT201317 How can I delete photo stream photos on specific device while keeping it on others??

I am trying to clean up my iphoto because my computer is a snail due to too many photos & I've transferred my photo stream photos onto a thumb drive but now want to delete them from iphoto BUT I DON'T want them to be deleted from my iphone & ipad??  Is it possible to specify that? What are my options??
    THANK YOU!!

Welcome to the Apple Community Katie.
It is the purpose of photo stream to sync all photos to all devices, the only way to remove the photos from the computer without affecting other devices is to turn photo stream off.

  • Delete photo stream

    I have an iPhone 4.
I want to delete the hundreds of photos clogging up my phone.
I have a folder called photo stream which has hundreds of photos, all of which I have removed from my camera roll.
There is not control for deleting photos within the photo stream.
I discovered this is a 'feature' (unwanted) of icloud (also unwanted).
I have followed the apple instructions to turn of photo stream on my iphone and reset the whole thing via icloud.com.
This has had no effect at all and the several hundred photos have gone nowhere.
    I want these photos removed.
How do I do this? And while we are on this subject, why is this so difficult???
    Thanks,
    Jason

How do I delete photos from My Photo Stream?
You can delete photos from your photo stream the same way you delete other photos from your iOS device or Mac. Just select the photos you want to remove, then tap the trash icon or click Delete. On your PC, select the photos you want to remove from your photo stream, right-click, then select delete. When you delete a photo from My Photo Stream on one device, it will be removed from the Photos tab and your albums and iCloud. Photos imported from My Photo Stream to other devices won’t be deleted. Learn more about deleting photos.
What happens to my photos if I turn off My Photo Stream?
If you sign out of iCloud or turn off My Photo Stream on an iOS device, all the photos in the My Photo Stream album are removed from that device. Any photos from My Photo Stream that were imported to the Recently Added album and the Photos tab will also be removed. The photos from My Photo Stream on your other devices aren't affected. Photos from My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days from the date you uploaded them to My Photo Stream. If you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID and turn on My Photo Stream on another device, those photos will automatically download to this device.

  • Does deleting photo stream save iphone space?

I see all my photos in the photo stream are in my camera roll.    I am fine with icloud space but not iphone space.

When you take a photo or video, or save a photo from another source such as a webpage, text message, FaceBook, etc., it is saved to the camera roll.  If you have photo stream enabled on your device, these camera roll photos (not videos) are then uploaded to your photo stream in iCloud when your device is connected to wifi, has the camera app closed, and has at least 20% battery life remaining.  Photo stream then streams these photos to any iOS devices or computers that are syncing with your iCloud account with photo stream enabled.  This allows you to take a photo (for example), and have it automatically added to your other devices.  Since your iPod is one of these devices, it will also receive a copy of the photo in the my photo stream album.  See http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486.
If by "user name" you mean your iCloud account ID name, if it isn't an @me or @mac, you can change it as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40.  After changing it, to change it on your device you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the changed name.  When you delete the account it deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

  • IPhone will not backup or delete Photo stream

So, this all started because I was trying to update my phone with to the iOS 7.1.2 but I wanted backup my phone to iTunes first. It would give me an error that it could not backup because of some unknown error. I thought maybe it was my pictures. I had over 5,000 pics from over the years. So I copied all of the pics to my computer then deleted them off my phone. Then I noticed that my photo stream still had pictures. I turned photo stream off in my settings and it asked me if I wanted to deleted all. I clicked delete. The pictures are still in My Photo Stream album on my phone and now I cant even access the album to manually delete them. It force closes every time I click on the Photo Stream album. All I really want to do is back up my phone. I have the iPhone 5S 32GB. It will not backup to the cloud either. I have tried to reset the lockdown folder, deleted all previous backups on my computer, deleted all photo stream pics on my computer and other devices.  Let me know if there are any solutions other than restoring my phone to factory settings.

I have deleted all photo stream photos on my computer and other devices.
You only need to delete them in one place because they are only in one place.
The Photo Stream cache on your iPhone has not been cleared.
    Quit the Photos app.
Double tap Home then swipe up on all icons (to close them all).
    Then reset the iPhone.
Press & hold both Home & Power until you see the Apple logo (about 10 seconds).
Now go back to Settings > Photos and see if you can turn Photo Stream On then Off.

  • HT204022 I want to delete photo stream with deleting my other albums. Is it possible?

Resetting photostream has nothing to do with your locally stored photos.

  • Deleting photo stream photos

How do I delete photostream photos

You cannot actually delete photos a la carte from Photostream unfortunately. I am sure this is a huge request for Apple, but right now, it is an all or nothing deal.
What you can do is completely reset Photostream to clear out everything that is there. Make sure that you save your images to an album or event in iPhoto, the Photo app, or a folder in Windows so you don't lose them.
You can then go to iCloud and click the "reset" button in Photostream to purge the images form the server. Then go to each device an turn Photostream off and back on to purge the local cache.

  • Deleted Photo stream Photos

I accidentely deleted photos from my photostream that weren't on my camera roll. Can I get them back?

Photostream only includes photos that you've taken with your iPhone since you turned Photostream on.
Simply find the photos that are missing from Photostream by looking on your computer, since you've been copying your iPhone photos over to your computer on a regular basis....  but if you haven't been doing that, then you've learned an important lesson about how to properly safeguard your photos/videos.
