Deleting photos in cs5 bridge - external hard drive

I am trying to delete large numbers of images from an external hard drive through Adobe Bridge. I have tried dragging the images to the trash can. I have tried simply hitting the delete button with no luck. I have hit the delete button while holding the command key and nothing.
I really need to do this. If i can not in Bridge i will be disappointed but i will move on.
Please help in any way.
thank you in advance for you help.
david

Sounds like a good suggestion
On a Mac select the drive in the finder (either in the finder window or the
finder window side bar and choose cmd + i (or the menu file/get info)
At the bottom of this info window you can see if you have all the read and
write privileges.
On a Windows machine it is a permissions issue.  Start Bridge by right
clicking and choose "run as administrator".  This sounds a little stange if
you are a single use computer with full administrative rights, but it works in
a Windows machine, perhaps in a Mac also?

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

  • How to move i photo events to an external hard drive

My Mac is nearly full so i need to move some old i photo events to an external hard drive, how do i do this?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • After iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive, after iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive

I was just about to order a photo book, using photos stored on an external hard drive. I organised the book and pressed 'buy'. IPhotos instructed me that I needed to upgrade and so I went on the ASpp store, bought the upgrade and installed as directed. I then used the iPhoto Library upgrader as directed.
After the iPhoto upgrade I can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive. I am able to access the photos stored on my internal hard drive - the remainder (including the photo album) seem to have vanished into thin air.
    Any suggestions please?

What format is the external drive?

  • Hello, I need help to retrieve deleted information to partition an external hard drive. What should I do?

Hello, I need help to retrieve deleted information to partition an external hard drive. What should I do?

I'm not about the question, and giving you the right answer requires me to ask a few more questions.
Do you want to retrieve deleted information for future usage, or to completely delete a partition? The latter is straightforward: simply erase the partition. The former is more complicated: it's very difficult, even using available commercial software, to recover deleted information. If the data is important, you may want to contact a professional like DriveSavers. It won't be cheap.

  • Cannot Delete .trash file of an external hard drive

I am having issues deleteing a .trash file from my Western Digital external hard drive.
I moved 500GB of my photos from that hard drive to a desktop hard drive, they copied to that hard drive and then went to delete the files off my WD. Half way through the deleting it I knocked the hard drive and it ejected. Now it is showing a .trash file that is about 400gb on my WD and if I go to right click delete I get an error saying "cannot delete an unexpected error occured (error code - 50) I had a bit of a look and it looks like I only have the permission to write on it, so I went into get info and change it and the file size went from 400gb to 0kb.
    Any suggestions?

Try holding the option key and Finder-Empty Trash
Try repairing the disk with Disk Utility

  • I want to store my photos on a portable external hard drive.

I want to move my photos from my laptop to an external hard drive.  I already own a Seagate which is formatted for a PC, with photos already on it.  I do not want to lose those photos and have been told by Apple tech that the seagate can be reformatted for mac.  How do I do this without losing the PC photos already on it.  Is there any difference between photos transferred from a PC or a MAC ?

Yes, you can format the external drive for Mac but then you can't use it with a PC.  There's a way round this tho', if you format the drive to FAT32 or exFAT you can use the drive with both Mac and Windows PC.  Formatting the drive will erase everything on it so you should back up the data that you want to keep prior to formatting it.  Simply create a folder on the desktop and transfer the contents of the drive to it, format the drive (having verified that the data is in the desktop folder), then copy the contents of the desktop folder back to the external drive.  You can then delete the desktop folder, having verified that all your data is on the external drive.  There should be no difference between photos on PC or Mac so long as you're working with the image files.  However, if you're using iPhoto on the Mac then I think iPhoto stores everything in a monolithic database.  So that's a potential difference to consider.  Some PC software does the same but the database structures will be different and incompatible.  One caveat, if the external drive is holding the only copy of your photo library I would consider getting a second drive to keep a backup on.  If that drive fails you risk losing your whole photo library otherwise.

  • Iweb not finding photos after move to external hard drive...

so I moved all my photos by copying the iphoto library to a external hard drive, deleting the old library, and telling iphoto to look to the external to find the photos and iphoto works fine.
I launched iweb, tried to go into media, and it said please launch iphoto 2 or later to show photos...I did so and nothing.
How do I point iweb in the right direction in order to work with my photos on the external hard drive?
    Thanks so much,
    Steve

Might be a job for symbolic links!
I thought there used to be a GUI way to create symbolic links, but maybe there never was.
    Anyway, here's a "little" background.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2001110610290643
And, if you're comfortable in the terminal, what you want to do is create a Pictures symbolic link that points to the one on your external drive (not sure what problem this might cause iPhoto... may want to point it to the symbolic link as well).
    Something along the lines of
    cd /Users/username/Pictures/
    then
    ln -s /Volumes/name-of-external/iPhoto\ Library iPhoto\ Library
    or something like that.

  • Transfer/back-up photos from iPhoto to External Hard Drive

I have an External Hard Drive to which I wish to transfer/back-up my photos (from iPhoto). My External Hard Drive though has documents and photos that are in Microsoft Word. Please help me with the step by step process of transferring/backing-up photos to my ExHD. Can I still keep my MSWord files, or do I need to clear up the whole ExHD? My main concern, is really to free the memory of my MBPro because I have so many photos already. Thanks

Copy your entire iPhoto Library as a unit from the Pictures folder in your Home folder onto the external drive — just drag the iPhoto Library onto the external drive's icon or into its open main window. Do NOT try to copy your photos any other way than this.
After the copy is finished (it may take a while if your library is large), open iPhoto while holding down the Option key, and select the library on the external drive for iphoto to open. If it opens normally and everything seems to be in order, you can delete the iPhoto Library file from your internal drive. Don't forget to empty the trash afterward.
REMEMBER THIS: Now that your iphoto Library exists only on the external drive, it is not backed up! Back it up on a second external hard drive, or sooner or later you will lose it to a hard drive failure. The one sure thing about hard drives, like all other mechanical devices, is that eventually every hard drive will fail. Don't wait for it to happen and then think about the backups you should have been making all along!

  • Transfer photos from iphone to external hard drive

I have limited space on my MacBook hard drive. I do not use iPhoto, I use Aperture, and like I said I'm out of space. I want to transfer the photos and video directly from my iphone to my external hard drive. Either I'm blind or this is the most unintuitive thing Apple has done. Help please!

    UPDATE:
I have just realized that when you do this, on the bottom left of Image Capture you can scroll down and adjust the setting so that when plug you iphone into your computer that image capture automatically pops up and not iPhoto or make it so no import program pops up at all. At the very least I am glad to have the option to not have iPhoto automatically pop up because I don't like it.
Also- you can select the box below this to have photos automatically deleted from your phone after they import. I was doing it manually on my phone and obviously this takes a while.

  • Backing up photos on iMac using external hard drive and time machine

How do i back up photos from my imac using an external hard drive and time machine
    Thanks in advance

Apple explains how to use Time Machine in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427.
Setting up and using TM is very simple to do, connect any external HD (format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility ) and your computer shoudl ask if you want to use that EHD for a Time Machine backup. If you have any questions visit your local Apple Store or reseller and they can answer how to setup and use TM and also should be able to offer suggestions on EHDs. My personal preference is OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro due to the build quality and OWC's level of support.

  • Cannot delete Time Machine file from external hard drive

    Hello,
I'd like to delete my original Time machine file from an external hard drive ( Lacie mini ). I move the file into the trash bin and it constantly "deletes". At one time I left it deleting overnight and the file still wasn't trashed.
I am going to hook up Time Machine to a different, dedicated external hard drive, but I'd like to gain space on the drive that Time Machine is currently on.
I currently have Time Machine turned off ( I do have everything backed up with my home folder on another external HD ). Should Time Machine be turned on for me to trash the file? Is there a better way to delete the file?
    Much thanks in advance.

But what if a person doesn't want to erase the TM drive? My MacPro came with tiger installed, but since tiger-intel-retail discs don't exist, my copy of tiger is what i have. I was all manner of foolish directing TM to that drive, but damage is done. What can someone in my position do?
