Deleting photos than don't display in finder - just an icon not image

Hi
I have plugged in an old hard drive today I have not used for a while to get some old photos from. There are thousands on the drive, but I notice in finder than many of them display as .jpg icons in finder and not with an image of the photo. To no surprise, they don't open either. I think it might have been a problem with the drive they came from, but do have copies so not concerned.
Is there any quick way of deleting these thousands of non-working images from my hard drive to clear out the debris so I am only left with working photos.

"Adobe-only environments". Nope, sorry; that doesn't exist. Adobe makes software that runs on OSX and Windows.
I will bet $50 that buried in the OSX Lightroom code is reliance upon Quicktime. Adobe could rectify this. It's a lack of will, not technology.
I can be angry and upset but I will still use Lightroom because, in spite of this setback, LR produces DNGs that are smaller than TIFF and lossless PNG and produces better photos easier than other apps (including Aperture).
...and yes, I still believe Adobe's marketing is either fraudulent or just doesn't understand the technology.

I think i deleted photo booth and now i cant find it

Ok so one day i was messing around with my computer and i pulled somethings out from the bar at the bottom of my screen (the bar with all the apllications on it), so i retrieved some of the other thigns that I pulled out of that bar, but I couldn't find the photo booth! And i downloaded a new app from my computers app store but unfornutaly it had only pictures and you can't even snap the picture you just save it and it has no video and for what you pay for this computer, you should have AMAZING customer service but when i called the woman was really rude and said my warranty had expired a few weekes before which is CRAZY!!! Someone please help me thanks!

I didn't even know this was possible. I just uncheck my holiday tracks so they won't be on my iPod until I want them there, then I recheck the songs.

Photos (JPGs) won't display in Finder Icon view

Ever since upgrading, many folders (including new ones that I create on my Desktop and elsewhere) have problems displaying JPGs that are added to the folder when using icon view (thumbnails). Basically, the window appears empty. If I change the view to list, column, or cover flow, then they appear fine. This has happened with about 80% of my folders.
Anyone else have this issue? Any known fixes?
It drives me crazy since I use the thumbnail (icon) view all of the time and never had problems with Mavericks.
The only workaround (which works sometimes) is to copy all of the JPGs to another folder. This seems to regenerate the thumbnails for some reason. But later the same folder ceases to work again. So I'm not sure what is going on. Using a mid 2012 macbook pro retina, 2.7 i7 and 16GB of RAM.
Apple needs to fix this if it is a widespread problem.

Great suggestion! Unfortunately it didn't make any difference.
However, I have more details on this bizarre issue:
If I reboot the Mac (safe mode or regular mode), the icons do appear. But if I copy or move the files to a new folder, they are invisible again.
Also, if I copy the folder full of JPGs into a new folder, then open the new folder, the subfolder is also hidden in icon view.
If I choose Edit > Select All, the Finder window shows the correct quantity of files in the folder that are selected (even though they are all invisible).
I've tried changing from discrete to integrated graphics, changing the display resolution, but so far nothing works (except the temporary fix of rebooting).

When I joined Facebook, and clicked on the person's pictures, I didn't realize I was downloading those pictures. I went to the Finder today and under Searches I went to all images. Could not believe how many pictures etc. were there. I am trying to get rid of them but even when I put it in the trach, the image still remains. I want to get rid of them. Help. I am not computer savvey.

Find my device icon not showing up

I have a macbook air and when I use find my device on my ios device, the macbook air shows up, but where the icon is suppose to be, shows a pink box.
Any idea why this is happening?

Make sure the device is turned on and Find My iPhone is switched ON.

Sudden finder freezing. menu icons not loading. slow performance

Please help. My Powerbook has suddenly started acting strangely. After restarting the menu bar icons take around 5 minutes to load up. The airport cannot pick up any signals. The compiuter has no startup sound. The computer tends to freeze from the finder forcing a hard restart. I would like to re-install the system or run a diagnostic but am overseas without the disks. Have zapped PRAM and fixed privelages, trashed pref files. nothing.
Hoping I can get someone with some idea? i've run out.

If the machine has always taken 12 minutes to start up, since it came out of the box, then it was and is defective. There's nothing to do in that case but to take it in for service.

How do I delete photos from my ipad that have been imported directly from a memory card.

I have searched loads of forums and they all talk about using itunes to delete photos, but this seems to only apply to photos that orginated from a PC. The photos I am trying to delete were loaded directly on to my ipad from a memory card and don't appear in itunes. I know I can delete photos individually on my ipad but I have hundreds of them, The only option I have found that comes close to what I want to do is back-up ipad, delete photos I don't want to restore (not sure where to find back up or how to delete), rebuild ipad and restore - this seems a long winded way of doing something that would take less than a minute in windows. I have an ipad1 and am running windows 7 on a standards Windows PC.

Photos copied to the iPad via the camera connection kit (and those taken with the iPad or saved from emails/websites etc) should appear in Windows Explorer on a PC so you should be able to delete them from there - those types of photos should make the iPad appear as a camera to your computer. You should also be able to delete them at the end of the photo import process via, for example, the camera wizard.

IPhoto Library showing old (previously deleted) photos?

I was looking to reset the faces in iPhoto and this required going to the iPhoto Library in the finder, while looking for the file to delete I came across previously deleted photos
Why is this?
If i deleted them I would expect them to be deleted and not lying around gathering space on my mac?
Is there a way to permanently delete photos?

1 - NEVER use the finder to make any change to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - tere are o user serviceable parts in it
2 - deleting from iphoto is simple - select a photo in an event and press the delete key then empty the iPhoto trash - do not reorganize events before emptying the iPhoto trash
3 - try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Apple has to have the worst phone I've ever had the misfortune to use not because of the phone, the phone itself is a pretty solid device but because of apple lacking any sort of ingenuity or technical finesse in their software design other then turning everything into a marketing kiosk

Essentially i'm trying to add more music to my phone but i don't have enough space, WHY? because apparently the phone has withheld 1100 photos from existence. See when i use the photo browser on my phone we all know how we cant just look at a feed of our photos anymore instead the dullards at apple decided you can only have a 350 cap on most recent shots and its impossible to view any previous shots without delving into the god awful time consuming collections feature. There's about 5 maybe 600 photos on my phone, i'm not a big picture taker but iTunes says there's about 1100 at 1.75gb how can this be?
I can't even see all the photos on my phone let alone see them if i tried to back my phone up...
Even looking at my photos in collection i can confirm there isn't even that many there, I've had the phone for half a year for pete sake
I can't get over how unintelligent a multi-billion dollar company can be, my apologies but bear with me my non-apple associates!
So what do i do? I know i could clear up more space by delete photos i don't need but i cant even see them, **** i cant even back up photos in a clean jpeg format without plundering a handful of oddly named folders on the windows file explorer and even then i wouldn't have my space back.
How do i delete or even access this hidden cache of said "Phantom" photos

When you double click on of the these blank thumbnails to view the photo in a larger size do you?
First make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot and the option to rebuild the small thumbnails.

I've got a Mac Book and have ran out of space.
How to I delete photos i don't want any more from my hard drive? It seems that if I only delete them from iphoto is not enough.
I don't see individual photo documents stored in my hard drive as would have seen in Windows environment.

You won't actually see the pictures deleted. They are stored in User/Picture/iPhoto Library. When you delete pics in iPhoto, the size of that library should be reduced
If you right click on the library, select "Show Contents", and you will be able to see all your images in the "Master" folder.

IPhoto does not delete photos.

I'm having some trouble deleting photos from iPhoto. My steps for deleting photos are this.
1. Find the photo I want to delete in events (have tried this in the 'photo' tab also)
2. Select the photo and press cmd - backspace to delete the photo.
3. Empty the iPhoto trash.
4. This is where I get confused, I check back in events/photos and its still there.
Why does it not delete from my computer?
I am running snow leopard = 10.6.2
And obviously iPhoto '09.
The same happened on my parents Mac Mini downstairs running the same version of snow leopard and iPhoto.

By backspace you mean the Delete key, right? Do you or have you confirmed that the photos are in the iPhoto Trash before emptying it via the IPhoto->Empty iPhoto Trash menu option?
If yes to all the above you may have a damaged library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.

When I first synced my iPod Touch with my laptop, it uploaded a lot of photos onto the iPod. I now wish to delete those but it does not seem as a straight forward option!

For photos synced to the iPod you have to unsync them:

Deleting Photos From HD When 'Copy to iPhoto Library' Not Selected

I have followed and searched on this discussion.
How do I physically delete photos from the hard drive if I have told iPhoto NOT to make duplicate copies of my photos that I have organized into folders myself? Even if I delete a photo using Option-Command-Delete and empty the trash the photo is still on my hard drive. Do I have to use a script for this?
