DELETING PROGRAMS - how to do so properly?

Hi - Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to
completely remove unwated programs from my mac book -
with Windows it was as easy as clicking on Uninstall.
I have scraped few programs but lots of files
related to it still linger around.
Any imput is greatly appreciated:)
The situation in OS X is different from Windows. It's usually good enough to just drag the application to the trash if you want to get rid of it. Most application 'files' in OS X are really directory bundles that gather together all of the important parts of the application. When you trash the app you are actually trashing the entire bundle.
In Windows this isn't so easy because an application may also alter system level resources like the windows registry. These registry changes are virtually impossible to undo without a good uninstaller.
It's true that dragging an app to the trash in OS X will leave behind preference files and occasionally a library or cache file. But I've never seen a case where this causes a problem. As someone else suggested, if these really bothers you, try using Spotlight to track them down. But my advice is to not make your life complicated. Just drag the app to the trash and forget about it.

Try booting up in Safe mode (holding down the Shift key while booting). If the software came with an unistaller, use it to remove alll traces of the software - it's nothing that you need and, as you've experienced, can do more actual hard than good (as is the case with most software of this type). When you're booted in Safe Mode, if you can't run an uninstaller, at least check to make sure that there are no Trend Micro items that are set for automatic log in, at least.

Most apps may be simply deleted to the trash; all have a small file in ~/library/preferences associated to it, e.g. company.com.name-of-app.plist, may or may not be deleted. Some apps have their uninstaller, if their creator is scrupulous (some are not), if they spread files all over the system.

I need to delete programs that have been duplicated after the software update has been done. The computer won't delete them. Anyone else having this problem and if so, how do I delete the old program after it's been updated.

Sig is right — reclaiming space on your hard drive should be a matter of looking for the largest files you can delete, not starting with applications. I have 200+ applications on my hard drive, and altogether they occupy less than 14GB of space. Just a handful of them — Acrobat Pro, iPhoto, Aperture, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Adobe Media encoder — are larger than 500MB apiece, and if I disposed of all of those, I'd only get 5.6GB back. My Utilties folder contains 78 apps, and it only amounts to 1.1 GB.
If you have any feature-length movies on your hard drive, those should be the first things you trash or move to an external drive.

I have the same issue. When I use fotostream, there will be automatically generated projects for each month. So I deleted all fotos inside the project and now I have empty projects. When I delete them (with or without empty trash), they will reappear after opening Aperture again.
If I delete them, close Aperture and start iPhoto with the same library, the projects will not reappear, but after the next start of Aperture, they reappear.
I've tried to put fotos into the project and deleted them with the fotos inside, but this didn't make any difference.

I could not find a suitable forum for this, hence posting it here. I need to know how the ZARIX tables get filled in SAP Archiving. As far as I know, they are filled automaticlaly when the delete job runs, but I could not find any code in SD_COND_ARCH_DELETE program.
My issue is that my delete program did not fill one of the infostructures which was active and this infostructure corresponds to the zarix table. On the other hand, this infostructure got filled manually(verified in zarix also).
Wondering how this could have happened. Can this be because multiple delete jobs are running creating various sessions. This is mainly with reference to the SD_COND archive object.

There is a separate program to fill infostructures as when you fill them manually (Transaction SARJ, Environment -> Fill Structure) a new job is triggered. Have a look at the job that ran when you filled your infostructure manually and analyse the program that ran.
There should not be any problem in filling the infostructures due to several archiving sessions running at the same time. If you face the same issue again, see if any of the archiving jobs (write, store, delete) failed for any reason. If all the jobs finished successfully but an infostructure didn't get filled then have a look for any OSS note related to this issue. If you can't find anything, raise an SAP message as the infostructures have to get filled automatically as otherwise there will be no access to the archived data.

With a corrupt disk, the install procedure is most likely going to fail.
How old it the disk?
You might be able to reformat it to fix the problem. Of course that means you lose all of your data.
The other alternative is to get a new disk drive and put that in your Mac and install OS X
Then put the old disk drive in an enclosure and see what can be recovered from it.
