Deleting quicktime

I'm trying to delete a previous version of quicktime however everytime I try to a window pops up then disappears within a second. Whats going on?
I'm trying to install the newest version of itunes however during the middle of installation it states "itunes could not install quicktime completely. itunes requires quicktime." I'm trying to uninstall my previous version in hopes of not getting this message again. Any ideas????

This could be permissions related? Try to remove QT from the add\remove control panel, then do a search for all files and folders that get left behind and delete them. Also try running windows installer cleanup utility and remove any QuickTime installation that may be in there.

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:

• My dad deleted quicktime!

hey my dad deleted quicktime and now my itunes wont open and it says,"itunes required files are missing". also my dad tried the system restore and that didnt work either. i tried deleting itune and reinstalling it but still wont open. i dont know what to do! help please!!

Go here and download the stand alone version of Quicktime http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
If that does not work follow the Instructions here to uninstall/reinstall itunes and other things to get it working again, make sure you have antivirus disabled and any other security software like Norton or Mcafee disabled during reinstalls of iTunes and Quicktime

• Deleted QuickTime 10 so I could get QT7 Pro, but now I can't reinstall ANY version of QuickTime.

I purchased & tried installing QuickTime 7 Pro on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. I already had QuickTime version 10. The instructions said I needed to download QT7, but it wouldn't install. So I tried deleting QT10 by moving it to the trash & emptying it. WIth that gone, I downloaded & installed QT&, but it wouldn't show up in the Applications folder, even after it said it was successfully installed. I even tried installing it from the DVD that came with my computer. Once I did get it to show up, the icon was different; it was like a notepad & a paint brush or something, but it wouldn't do anything. When I double-clicked on it, it would appear, then instantly disappear. Next, I tried copying a working version from another computer to my MacBook. Now, the QT7 icon is right, but it still won't open. What do I do now? I don't even care about QT Pro now; I can't even WATCH videos on my laptop. The QT7 icon is in my Applications folder & I was able to drag the icon to my dock, but it immediately closes/disappears when I try to open it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get QuickTime working again on my computer? Thanks in advance!

You've messed things up by deleting QuickTime X and trying to install the wrong version of QuickTime Player on your Snow Leopard machine.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
QuickTime Player 7.6.6 installs in the Utilities folder and QuickTime X is installed in the HD/Applications folder.
You can run two versions of QuickTime in Snow Leopard and Lion.
Delete the wrong one from the Applications folder and open QuickTime Player 7 from the Utilities (after the download and install) to enter your registration.

• DELETED QUICKTIME AND NOW iTUNES wont work

I recently had to delete quicktime to install other software for my cell phone. After completeing the download and deciding it unworthy of my attention. I wanted to put quicktime back on. when i go to download the software back on the the computer it says:
The plugin did not initialize properly
Also when i click the short-cut for iTunes this pops up:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've contacted customer service and they instructed me to delete iTunes and Quicktime and re-download them. I still cannot access iTunes.

Here's what worked for other users; perhaps it will work for you (I've never had this problem so I can't say for sure):
1) Uninstall QuickTime from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. If you have difficulties, try Microsoft's Installer Cleanup Utility.
2) Clean up the Windows registry with http://www.ccleaner.com/ (freeware)
3) Restart your system.
4) Delete the QuickTime folder
5) Reinstall QT from the standalone installer.
Hope this helps.

• Accidentally deleted quicktime

while deleting files on my laptop I deleted quicktime. I can't open itunes without it. the error message says to reinstall itunes. If I do that, will I lose my existing itunes library? thanks

Perhaps let's first try a standalone QuickTime reinstall:
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
If that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly this time?
(If you get an error message on the QuickTime reinstall, let us know what it says. Please include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

• Deleted quicktime x, now I cant download quicktime 7! Can anybody help me

I deleted quicktime x, I'm a video editor and a friend told me not to bother with it. Now I cant download quicktime 7 because it's saying that Quicktime x is already installed! When I try to search for any old remaining quicktime x files to delete, I can't find any. I'm on a deadline, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

have you trashed the com.apple.QuicktimePlayerX.plist in home/library/preferences ?
In fact, before trashing, just move it to your desktop, keep it and if that does not work, do the same with your com.apple.quicktime.plist (you may find one on the same folder, and there may be another one in your startupdisk/library/preferences.
This is always a good solution before deleting anything for good, as you can see if everything works normally (if not, just move the plists back into their respective positions one by one).

I deleted Quicktime 10 and I want Quicktime 7.
I want more options when I export out of Quicktime. How do I get Quicktime to run on my iMac when my computer won't let me install it because it says I have Quicktime 10 on my computer already?
Right now, I don't think I have QT on my system in any form but the installer (when I tried to install 7) said I do.
Thank you in advance for your help.

• Can't uninstall / delete quicktime

I've been trying to delete quicktime to re-install it and itunes as itunes stopped working ( I couldn't open it at all). a reinstall didn't work, coming up with error code 2330, and when trying to uninstall quicktime it said could not delete zh_CN.lproj. I've tried both uninstalling and manually deleting, and have deleted all except this folder. when I try to open it, it says C drive requires formating (which I can't do without losing all the content). Help! I'd be really grateful if someone more computer literate than me has any ideas. Katie

This error message usually indiactes a corrupt file, try running chkdsk.
You can do this from My computer.
Right click on your C: drive, select properties>>tools>>Error checking.
It starts after a reboot, and takes a while so do it when you don't need access to your PC.
Once you have done that, try a cleanup and reinstall as follows:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

• Can't open / delete QuickTime

I keep getting the following message everytime I try to open quicktime, Quicktime failed to initialize with Error # -2095'.
I have tried to delete quicktime but get this message:
'The following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file. C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime\Uninstall.log'.
I think because of this I can't access iTunes as when I click on this it says that iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Any ideas?

• Accidentally deleted Quicktime and it wont install again

Hi, I accidentally deleted Quicktime X from my computer and emptied the trash. When I went to install Quicktime again from Apple, it says it wont let me. In the Install window is says, "Quicktime cant be installed on this disk. This version Quicktime 7 cant be installed on this disk because Quicktime X is already present. Please use Software update to install the appropriate version of Quicktime for your Mac."

Use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.6 DVD and then run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater.

• I deleted Quicktime X from my iMac

I have been experiencing problems with movies in iTunes. So, I had a genius idea to delete QUICKTIME X and reinstall it from Apple's website. Shortly after deleting it, I found that I could not download it (only Quicktime 7 is available).
Other sites have told me to download a program called PACIFIST and try to extract QUICKTIME X from my Snow Leopard boot disk, however, that does not appear to work either. For some reason, Quicktime 7 is the main media player on my Snow Leopard DVD.
If I bring my iMac to an Apple Store, can someone there assist me?
Can anyone post a link so I can just download Quicktime X? PLEASE HELP!
