Deleting recent calls, by selection

Question

i just got an iphone, and am trying to delete recent calls, but the only option i get is to clear the whole log. Any one out there who knows how to delete calls by selection, as oppossed to the whole list ? on my previuos phone, Treo 700p, i was able to select the calls i need to delete, and leave the ones i chose to keep, or even add them to my contacts list, but i cannot seem to figure how to do that with the iphone.
2. another question i have is, can you be able to access your contcats via the keyboard to make calls on phone mode, without having to scroll through the whole contacts list ? if there is a way to access the keyboard directly to type in the name, or first letters of the name your looking for, on phone mode, please let me know.
3. i have not been able to use my iphone directly without it being on speaker, and i have not used the headphones, either. i bought it with its bluetooth earpiece which works well,but how do switch back to the iphone, incase my battary goes low on the earpiece ?

Here's what I know, maybe it will help...
1. Right now clearing recent is an all or nothing proposition. You might use the feedback forum to voice your need for a selective deletion feature.
2. You cannot access contacts via the keyboard, but on the right side of the screen, you can narrow your search by selecting the letter you want to look at.
3. If you are using bluetooth and want to switch back to the handset, an option appears on the touch screen to do so while you are in the phone call.
