The only apps that continue to run, and might be profitably quit from this list are those which are still playing the music you will be listening to, or GPS apps.

All you have to do is double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view, then swipe up on the screenshot of the app you want to exit.

Yes, it is possible. When you are in the relevant inbox, tap the 'edit' button on right hand top corner. now select the mails you want to delete by tapping in the small circle next to the mail. keep selecting and in the end tap the red delete button that will show you how many are being deleted

If you are referring to the individual text message itself with the contacts name, follow the steps below to delete it.
(1) Click on "Menu"
(2) Click on "Messaging"
(3) Click on "Inbox"
(4) From your inbox, scroll down till you get to the contact's text message that you wish to delete and click on the "Options" button.
(5) Click on "Delete"

I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my hard drive, setting etc to an SSD to replace in my MBP. When I placed the SSD in and went to "About This Mac" I came upon this in the Storage section. My question is where can I find my Backups and delete them?

If Tools > [[Clear Recent History]] is grayed then that means that you are in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.

How to restore an app to recently used app bar after deleting it from bar?

I frequently have to kill an app (GPS Drive) in order to get it to work properly alongside another app (HiDef Radio). Reason being: When I use the two apps at the same time, the HiDef Radio frequently renders the live voice guidance on GPS Drive inoperable. A customer support representative for GPS Drive advised me to kill GPS Drive, using the recently used apps bar, and re-open it when this happens. (The representative also said that they just submitted a new version of GPS Drive to Apple, which should hopefully fix this problem, but in the meantime, I'm stuck not being able to listen to the radio and use live voice guidance at the same time.)
To kill GPS Drive, I followed the instructions in the iPhone 4.1 manual:
"Remove an app from the recents list: Touch and hold the app icon until it begins to jiggle, then tap [the red minus]."
The manual then states, "The app is added to recent apps again the next time you open it."
Problem is, contrary to what the manual says, GPS Drive is not added to recent apps again the next time I open it. And since it's not added back to the recent apps bar, I can't kill it next time I have this conflict with HiDef Radio. So the problem remains.
Is this—the fact that the app is not added to recent apps again the next time I open it—some sort of bug? (And, if so, is the bug Apple's, or GPS Drive's?) Or am I missing something? (And, if so, how do I make the app re-appear in the recently used apps bar after removing it from said bar?)
If anyone is wondering how I know that removing an app from the recently used apps bar kills it, see this, from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 :

I just discovered the answer to my question. Apparently, when you're in an app, that app does not appear in the recently used apps bar. This is logical in one sense: You can't switch to an app that you're already in. However, in another sense, it is illogical: In most operating systems, when you want to kill an app, you can kill the app without exiting the app (which is necessary in cases in which a freeze prevents you from exiting the app) by using a keystroke or directly entering a task manager. Given that the recently used apps bar serves two purposes—fast app switching and killing problematic apps—what makes sense for one purpose doesn't make sense for the other purpose. Anyway, the moral of the story is this: If you want to kill an app using iOS 4, you have to exit it first. Problem solved.

Where, oh where did I see that?
Two email addresses are suggested when I type the person's name. I changed it in the address book - but forget where to eliminate the old one in the recently used list.

First off, you CANNOT set recent documents to zero. The absolute minimum it will accept is 1. And on my MacMini, (I just checked it to be 100% sure) I opened seven documents with Recent Docs set to 10 - they were ALL listed. I set it to 1 and all but the most recent cleared. I then closed Reader and reopened it. The list was 1 item. I reset Recent Docs to 10 and there was still only 1 item in the list.

Can anyone explain what the other section section in the HDD usage description is for ? I recently used iphoto to send a mail and this "other "section inrease the usage by about 1GB....any ideas why ?

The Recently Added playlist is a Smart Album that has specific settings to automatically add new content to that playlist. It can be recreated manually if accidentally deleted, you can use this article named Archived - iTunes: How to create a Smart Playlist found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1801.
Choose File > New Smart Playlist.
To have iTunes add songs that match specific criteria, make sure to select "Match the following rule," then make your selections from the pop-up menus.
For example, you might want iTunes to only add songs that are by a particular artist, or songs with at least a four-star rating.
To add additional matching criteria, click the Add + button.
Here are the parameters to use when you create the new Smart Album:
1. Check the box that says Match the Following rule:
2. Change the first set of criteria to Date Added, In the Last, 2, weeks.
3. Add another line for criteria by clicking the + button
4. The second set of criteria should be as follows. Media Kind, is not, podcast.
5. Uncheck Limit To, and Match only checked items, and check Live Updating.
That when that is done you will have a new smart playlist that you can rename to Recently Added by double clicking the smart album name.
