Deleting rejected files

I want to delete large numbers of Master Images from a project. I should be able to select all "rejected" images for instance, and Delete them all in one move. However I always get a default to Delete One Image. I don't think it has always done this, could it be a bug in an update? Currently I move all the rubbish into a Project titled 'Rubbish" then delete the project but it's a bit of a pain.
Mac Book Pro 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If you mark the images as rejects, they move to the Library>rejects folder.
I then click on the first one in the folder, and hold down shift whilst clicking on the last to select them all - Then Ctrl+Del to remove them permanatly - Seems to work fine for me.
I am using 1.1.2 on 10.4.7

  • Problem when trying to delete rejected files in LR 5.2.

When I try to delete rejected files I enter the library module, select all photographs by their rejected flag status and using the cmd and backspace keys, I get the usual message offering me the options of canceling, deleting from the disk or remove from catalogue.  Choosing delete from disc I then get a pop up window that says there were (x amount) of files that could not be moved to the trash folder.  It does this whether I try to delete all images flagged as rejected at the same time or go file by file and delete them in ones and twos.  I am using a mac.  The trash folder is empty.

Got it sorted so I thought I would share the solution here:  The problem wasnt related to LR 5.2 but was to do with Mac OS X 10.8.5 AKA Mountain Lion.  I had also noticed that I was having an issue around deleting anything on my MAC.  When I tried to delete a file from anywhere I was asked to submit my password.  The message I got was finder wants to make a change please submit password.  I checked through the mountain Lion forums and found a solution here; https://discussions.apple.com/message/20499360#20499360%2320499360
I implemented it and the problem has dissappeared.

  • I can't delete rejected files from events!!

Just started working with iMovie. I completed editing my first event (i.e. rejecting, marking favorites, etc.) and created a project. But I'm unable to delete the rejected files from the event...I hit the button at the top and nothing happens, the rejected files remain. The option to delete under the FILE menu isn't highlighted. Only the SPACE SAVER option is highlighted. Tried everything, but nothing happens. My rejected clips remain. What am I missing??

No, unfortunately that is not the case. They are clips imported directly from my Canon HV30 camcorder into iMovie 08. This morning I simplified the procedure to see what would happen. I downloaded half a soccer game, went through it immediately, rejecting all portions that were out-of-bound balls, etc., and then tried to "Move Rejected Clips to Trash." These clips have been manipulated no other way. I haven't even started a project related to them. The progress bar showed activity until it reached the end (about 25 minutes for 20 minutes of rejected clips). Then the beach ball spun for about twenty minutes. Eventually the ball was replaced by the pointer, but moving the mouse made the beach ball reappear. This continued for another twenty minutes or more, with the beach ball returning to the pointer over and over. (It took all of the patience I could muster to sit and watch this time waster, but I was afraid that if I left and didn't keep moving the pointer so that it returned to the beach ball, nothing would be happening in my absence! This is probably what happened when I waited for hours away from the computer yesterday.) The upshot is that the window finally closed and the clips appeared in the trash can. I was able to empty the trash this time, because I had no project associated with the clips. My experience leads me to these conclusions:
    1. It is best to delete footage you know you aren't going to use before you ever begin a project.
    2. Deleting clips is a lengthy process, probably roughly the same amount of time or more that it took for importing the original footage, at least on my G-5.
    3. Do NOT use Force Quit when the beach ball spins forever after using Space Saver! I most definitely experienced *completely unrelated clips* being put in the trash by doing this! On two separate occasions! In case you are wondering why I would do something stupid twice, I figured out how to retrieve the clips from the trash and put them back in their proper folders, so I took the risk the second time in the name of science. I couldn't believe it could happen, but it did. I haven't yet tested whether this is a glitch related to Force Quit or Space Saver because I haven't had the time to watch the spinning ball of death for hours again. But until I figure out which one is responsible, I won't be using Space Saver either.
    4. This may seem like overkill to those of you who have oodles of projects, but I will always either check my projects before I empty the trash or go through the trash to make sure there are no clips with dates that shouldn't be deleted.
    5. Learn how to read the label on the clips being trashed. If you find a project with the caution exclamation and you haven't yet emptied the trash, look for the clip in the trash. It will be in an "iMovie temporary folder." Open the folder and drag the clip back into its correct event folder and replace the thumbnail in the corresponding thumbnail folder and all will be well.
I guess there is irony in all of this: When I first began using iMovie, I thought it was a miracle that it could manipulate such huge HD video files. Then when it doesn't function just right, I feel it is a travesty. Its all good, if not perfect.
Thanks, rloo, for trying to help.

  • Bridge on Mac deleting/rejecting/filtering not working!?! HELP

Ok seems as if I am having a problem only windows users have run into in earlier versions of CS.  I was using CS5 on my PC and for many reasons I had to dump the dead weight of the PC world and move to a Mac... FINALLY! But that also ment purchasing a new CS5 for Mac.  I thought this would be flawless... CS5 to CS5. WRONG. I store my photos on a 2TB external, same one i used on my PC. Now, I can not do any sort of "editing" of image info like "delete, "reject", "star" or anyother rating within bridge. It does not work with key commandes or from the menu.  After researching this issue for two days it seems as if this issuse has been reserved for PC users and earlier versions being upgraded to newer ones.  This is not the case for me.  They said to "use as Administrator" I am the adminsitrator, and have made sure the permisissions have been set to read and write. That has not made a difference.  Others have said that there seems to be no solution. Things they have tried include:
    ~Uninstall/reinstall of CS
    ~administrator settings
~setting it to open automatically at start up
~deleting pictures and reloading them through the new software version (this also seems to be an issue reserved for photos that have already been uploaded, I do not know if this will change with new images loaded through the new version as I have not had a chance to try it, since I'm trying to resolve this first)
I need to have access to my previously loaded files and this is a huge hiccup!
PS I can open the files to Photoshop, and edit, and the changes seem to stick, its just any organization, deleting, staring etc actually in bridge DONT stick. another issue that the PC users seem to have is error messages and pop-up windows when tring to exicute these tasks. I have no error messages.
    PLEASE HELP! thx

I am read only on both of my externals! when i tried to find a way to set permissions, it says that I should be able to find a "lock" once I have gone to "get info" there is no "lock" so that I may enter my password and change permissions.
First thing that comes to my mind is that you have used the same external disks as you did for Windows. And that you did not reformatted them for a Mac using MacOS Extended (Journaled) formatting.
Without knowing your situation I assume you have a back up disk with the same content as your problem disk. If not it might be wise to buy a new back Up disk. There is one thing sure about disks, they all have an end date, some sooner most later but they all die and often at a moment you did not expect it nor could use it...
Make sure you have a proper back up and the reformat the disk (or the new disk) using Mac Disk Utillity
Personally I always use the safety option to overwrite the disk once with Zeros but that takes a bit longer.
Give it a proper name and use the default format as mentioned above. Copy the content back to the new formatted disk and try again
If in doubt try another older disk or buy a cheap one for testing if this method is working for you.

I previously had PS CS5 Trial installed but removed it using both Control Panel Programs and deleting all files from the CS5 directory on Program Files.  I then installed a purchased product from Adobe disc using the serial number on the case.  But when I try to launch it, I get a screen headed Photoshop CS5 Extended Trial.  It asks for the serial number and says that my trial has expired.  It rejects the serial number from the Adobe case saying "This Serial Number is not valid for this product".  It thinks that I still have the expired Trial Version installed.  How do I convince it (the program) that the Trial Version is long gone and the currently installed product was installed with a valid and accepted serial number????

Let me know how it goes. Go into your Adobe account and register your serial number asap.

  • How to delete raw files while keeping original jpgs/later versions?

I'm using Aperture currently, which apparently can't do this -- if Lightroom can, I'm switching.
What I'd like to do is shoot everything in raw + jpg (using Nikon D200), and then keep the raw files only for the important shots.
I really like having the option of raw processing, but the storage demands are obviously very big. If I could just make a selection of multiple photos, and have a command to delete all the raw files from the selected photos, while keeping the original jpgs, that would be great.
Also, it would be great to be able to manipulate a raw file, and then when I'm satisfied with the image, to generate a full-size jpg & ditch the raw file. The jpg then becomes the master for that image.
Basically, I want the raw file safety net for everyday images, without gobbling up gigabytes of disk space every time...
    Can Lightroom do this?

I am unable to hide RAW files in Bridge.
And I can't delete or rename them in Windows Explorer.
    I'm using XP SP3.
Rejected RAW files appear in Bridge as unlabeled files. They are not hidden. "Show Hidden Files" is not checked; "Show Reject Files" is NOT checked. I've got the Label settings on. I created a subfolder and moved a batch of rejected RAWs there. They still show up, but at least they're labeled "Rejected."
Delete: I have a big sort to do, and I'd even be willing to delete these RAW files to avoid seeing them in Bridge.
I tried deleting them in Bridge using several methods, but I get an error message that tells me I don't have the "sufficient permissions." This happens even when I try to delete just one file.
I also tried deleting them in Windows Explorer. There, I got an error message that theyare in use by another program. I cannot re-name them in Explorer either. I got the same error message even when I shut down my computer and opened ONLY Windows Explorer. In Properties > File Attributes, neither Hidden or Read-Only are checked.
This is a big and important project, and I'm TOTALLY STUMPED!

  • Can't 'Delete Rejected Photos' (since Lightroom 5.6?) - just removes from catalog, not disk

I use Lightroom 5 (64-bit) on Windows. Recently (possibly since the 5.6 upgrade?) I can't delete rejected photos from the catalog. Instead of asking if I want to delete from the disk or just the catalog or cancel, like it used to, it now asks if I want to remove from the catalog or cancel. The files are left on disk. This happens if I Ctrl-Backspace or choose the Photo > Delete Rejected Photos menu.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions please? My daughter borrows my camera so I delete a LOT of pictures - without this option I don't have a quick way to do that.
    - cheers, Barney

I had a similar problem, and here is what I think is happening.
It depends on how you are viewing your pictures.  If you are viewing a collection, Delete Rejected Photos will only remove them from the collection.  There is no prompt to remove the files from the hard drive.  Instead, you need to view the entire catalog (All Photographs).  This time when you selected Delete Rejected Photos, there is a prompt asking if you want to remove the files completely from hard disk.
I have recently switched from Bridge to Lightroom, and I'm used to organizing and sorting my photos by directory.  This is another adjustment I need to make in my normal workflow.

  • "Unabe to delete rejected clips"?

...tried "moving rejected clips to trash...
    ...got Error message...
    "Unabe to delete rejected clips:
    The operation could not be completed.Error writing file: /Users/donrex/Movies/iMovie Events.localized/Family 56/iMovie Thumbnails/clip-135-02-05 05;27;15-1"
I now have 2 Event Libraries with problems.
On one, the Project Library shows a triangle symbol with a exclamation sign, and, won't show clips in the Preview screen. On another, much of the Event now has grayed clips.
I also experienced the unplanned deletion of some clips, and, some clips being combined with another clip.
    Any help?
    Don

iMovie will only delete clips that it "owns". To delete iPhoto clips, you must delete them in iPhoto. I don't know any way to delete partial clips in iPhoto.
You could export the clips from iPhoto and convert them to an iMovie compatible format using a tool like MPEG Streamclip. Then import into iMovie. Then you can reject clips and delete them.

  • How to delete when file in use by the finder?

I have two files in my trash which won't delete. I get the error that they are being used by another program. Holding down option, using secure empty trash, using the terminal method of deleting the trash.. none of them work.
So I did the terminal command: lsof /path-to-file and found out it was being used by Finder. I don't think I can exactly quit the Finder process in Activity Monitor.. so how can I get these files out of my trash?

Thanks. Unfortunately, when I quit finder and try to delete the files in the trash by the following command:
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
It tells me "Directory not empty". Argghh..
I feel like I've tried everything. Can someone give me some other suggestions? Thanks

I am getting above error while deleting a file which is in a folder which inturn in workspace

Here is the problem I have with deleting my folder. I had created a WD project TaxTool and and added the DC to my SC. There were obviously some checkedout activities. Being new to this, I deleted the project directly without checking in the activities. Now I have folder TaxTool/_comp with nothing underneath on the DTR server and on my client. I am unable to checkout TaxTool for delete but the checkout of _comp folder fails in NWDS with the following error:
<b>EDIT  (FAILED: server response: Conflict [(pre||post)-condition failed: x:no-exclusivity-with-existing-checked-out-resources])  comp   (C:\JDI\JDIDEMO1\intelJDI_TEST\dev\inactive\DCs\intel.com\TaxTool\_comp\)</b>
If I try the same from the DTR shell, I get this following error:
<b>Unexpected problem occurred during executing command.Lockfile "C:\Documents and
Settings\bvedamur\.dtr\.syncdbs\5b0d8b2110a7a29883734c0407462df8.syncdbM.lock" is already in use by another process.</b>
I am the only user in the system (doing R&D) and I have tried Sync and Delete. Nothing works. Help appreciated.

  • When using a Seagate 1T external hard drive and Time Machine to back up hourly, if I delete photo files from the Mac hard drive before the next back up, are these retained on the Seagate drive or will they be lost (overwritten) in the next backu in the ne

Does Time Machine erase previously saved files if, say, photos are deleted from the Macbook upon the next update, or will they be stored indefinately despite the current status of the files stored on the computer? Eg. can I bckup photo files to a Seagate 1T disc and then delete them to make more room on the computer in the knowlwdge that they are always going to be on the Seagate disc? Sorry if this is very elementary but I have not used a back up before like this, and am not sure how successive backups are overlaid or retained. Thanks!!

TM is not designed to do what you ask. As Allan wrote TM is an incremental backup not an archival solution.
If you delete a file from the HD it will eventually be removed from the TM backup (if it ever makes it on to the backup at all).
How long before it is removed depends on a number of factors, TM disk drive size being one factor but not the only one.
Material that is impossible to replace and is important to you (image files usually fitting that description) need to be backed up to as least one other drive and preferably more for long term storage.

  • Deleting individual Files from trash folder

This should be a simple question...Is there a way to permanently delete individual files/folders from the trash folder instead of emptying the entire trash folder? TIA, Scott

As Allan says, no... the trash *should not* be used as a repository for files you're not sure you want to trash yet. Not only is this extremely hazardous, as it's easy to accidentally empty the trash, but it also puts all those questionable files outside the reach of Time Machine, so they will not be backed up. If you need a "Pending Trash" folder, create one on your desktop, and then put files in the trash only once you are truly ready to delete them.

  • Why does iTunes create disk errors when deleting movie files?

I use a Macbook Pro, OSX 10.7.5. When I delete movie file from my iTunes library I get disk errors. I need to option boot select the recovery disk and repair the disk.  Deleting a movie file I have placed on my desktop with finder does not create any errors.  Most of the movie files are created as .m4v movies. They all play just fine with my Apple TV. I have tried turning off the Apple TV and rebooting before I delee files but nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?
    Lance

If you let iTunes organise your media folders then that is the way it is. An option would be to change the Media Kind to TV Show which would gather them togther in one folder, but in a different part of the library.

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?
