Deleting remembered email address in Mail

Hi
I have many email addresses that Mail has remembered that I no longer need, or want.
How do I remove them. They are not in my address book
Thanks

Open mail, in the finder bar select window> previous recipients. Then delet the ones you don't need.

  • How to delete an email address in Mail

A friend of mine has just changed his email address but I cannot remove his old one from Mail. I have added his new address and removed the old one from my Address book but his old address still comes up as the default when starting a new email to him.
    Any ideas would be appreciated...Cheers...

Biggest apologies thought I was writing about iOS!?
Am I also wrong about that too in iOS?

It appears because your mail app remembers a history of addresses.
It cannot be deleted but I think it will disappear after a certain time.

  • Want To Delete Incorrect Email Address In Mail.

I typed an incorrect email address in a new email.
I immediately corrected it, but every time I start typing the address, the incorrect one as well as the correct one appears.
I would like to delete the wrong one as I am worried that on some future occasion I might accidentally choose it.
Can it be deleted? (Note - it is NOT in my Address Book).
    Ian.

Check the list of Previous Recipients in Mail.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients.
A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address.
You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.

  • After deleting an email address from Contacts is there any way of preventing it from popping up in the To: field of Mail when one starts to type in a contact name.

After deleting an email address from Contacts is there any way of preventing it from popping up in the To: field of Mail when one starts to type in a contact name?

if you are not on ios 6, then all you can do is wait.  if you have deleted the address from your contact list, then it will live on for a while in your 'recently used' addresses.  as you use new addresses, those older ones fall down the list, and eventually fall off altogether  (unless you use them again).  Have patience, it will go away.
    Or do the update....

  • HT201320 how do i delete the email thats on mail now to put a new email address in?

how do i delete the email address thats already in mail on a ipad to a new email address?

You should be able to delete an email account from the iPad by selecting it on the right-hand side of Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then tapping the Delete Account button on the popup, and there should also be an Add Account button on the right-hand side of that Settings screen

  • In Mail, how to delete an email address that automatically comes up as a ch

I have deleted one email address from Address Book, and it is gone in the address book. However when I start an email to this person, that deleted email address still shows up as a choice below the current email address of this person. How do I delete the old email address from this location?
Thanks to someone who can answer this

Eva, I found where the previous recipient information is actually stored, unfortunately I don't have a solution yet though.
Mail's "previous recipients" list is actually stored in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data. However, as the name suggests this is actually where all your Address Book information is stored. Deleting the file AddressBook.data got rid of my entire Previous Recipients list, unfortunately it deleted my entire Address Book as well. Dragging the file back to the Application Support folder caused every Address Book entry to be duplicated... so I don't recommend this strategy
I reverted to an Address Book backup to set things right again.
So it would appear your mystery addresses are probably in the AddressBook.data file, unfortunately I still don't know how to excise the ones you don't want.

  • Mail: How to delete an email address in the "To" field that is no longer valid

How to delete an email address that is no longer valid but still appears as an option when typing that person's name in the field "To"; in MS Outlook this simply works by deleting that email address in the field "To" or "Cc" or "Bcc". The old, non-valid email address has been deleted in the address book and replaced by a new valid email address. When typing in the "To" field both email addresses appear as an option. Is it possible to achieve that only the valid email address is offered as an option so to avoid any confusion.

well, when the "false" address is in the "to" field, you should see a littl' arrow pointing down and a "remove from previous recipients list.
It should fix the problem. (and so, only keep the "good one"
    (oops, too late)

How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

  • How can I delete an email-address from an old Apple ID-account?

I need to delete an email-address from an old Apple ID-account, but the Apple ID seems to be deleted (but not by myself), to use it as a validated mail-address for communicating via iMessage from my new Apple ID.
I already tried 'Find my Apple ID'.

but the Apple ID seems to be deleted (but not by myself), to use it as a validated mail-address for communicating via iMessage from my new Apple ID.
If that AüpleID has been disabled for security reasons, you may not be able to access it. Then you need to give Apple Support a call:  only they will be able to help you. See this webpage on how to contact Apple Support in your country: There are either telephone numbers given or an email form:
Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security
Explain, that you need help with an account security problem.
You can also try to email the iTunes Support using this form:https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html

  • I recently purchased a new iPad. I would like to delete my email addresses from my old iPad so I can give it to my grandson. Can I do that without deleting the apps?

I recently purchased a new iPad. I would like to delete my email addresses from my old iPad so I can give it to my grandson. How do I do that for just the old iPad?

If you want to remove your Apple ID from the iPad you can just sign out in Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. That will not delete the apps from the iPad. He will not be able to update the apps without your username and password and he will have to sign in again in order to that.
If he is going to use his own Apple ID and he begins to switch and back and forth from one ID to the other - and if he downloads anything again using your ID, he will lock himself out of his own ID for 90 days.
If you are asking how to remove your email account from the iPad go to Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>your email account>Delete account. That will not cause you to lose any apps either.
You should probably explain exactly what you want to do in order to clarify.

  • How to delete unwanted email addresses from Mai

How can I delete out of date email addresses from Mail, in Yosemite. This no longer seems to be an option.
Thanks in advance for any help!

There is the window->previous recipients that you can open and delete them from there.
Other than that, Mail will auto-complete based on addresses you have in the Contacts application. If you have out of date emails for your contacts in Contacts, update them

  • Can't delete Unwanted Email addresses, Auto-fill in saves them all !

How do I delete Unwanted Email addresses?
Auto-fill in saves them all !
When I start a new email, every email address I've
ever written to pops up (To:) This greatly increases my
chances of sending a new email to the wrong person.
.....there's got to be a way to delete just the addresses
    I don't want !....but where & how ?

I am also looking for a way purge the email addy autofill of old contacts that no longer exist. Many a family and friends have since changed their E-mail addy's, I have deleted their old addy's from contacts, yet the iPhone autofill still manages to hang on to those in some stored cache that is NOT accessible to purge or delete! This is something I've struggled with regarding the iPhone since my first iPhone months after it originally released years ago, have since owned a few other iPhones as they progressed, currently an iPhone 4, on os 4.01, same issue persists. Have restored my phones, started from new during some restores, etc, those old defunct E-mail addy's still autofill!
I sync with my iMac yet do not even have my mail client set up on the iMac, never have since we bought the iMAc, web based E-mail only, so this issue has nothing to do with mail client on the computer it syncs to.
It would be nice if someone from Apple would reply with acknowledgment that they are indeed aware of this and hopefully it is on their to-do list.
    Regards,
    Paul

  • Hi Guys, i mistakenly synced my iphone and all my email contacts appears in my contacts list. its mixed up. can someone please assist me on how to delete the email address ONLY?

hi Guys, i mistakenly synced my iphone and all my email contacts appears in my contacts list. its mixed up. can someone please assist me on how to delete the email address ONLY?

Don't understand your problem... Contacts sync with a compatible address book or cloud service. Contact records can contain names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, notes, or any combination of these. If you have records you don't want in your address book that you don't want in your contacts, then segregate them into groups in your address book and only sync the group(s) you want. If you don't want them there at all, then delete them.
