Deleting song from nano second generation

I can not seem to delete a song(s) from my nano. I tryed to follow the instructions in Itunes but could not figure them out.
Also I wanted to install an Audio Book that I own in the Audio Book Catagory but all I could seem to do was get it to install in the Music Catagory.
Any help would be great!!!!

There are several methods of deleting songs from the iPod and/or iTunes, and the method you choose depends on the settings you have selected for your iPod.
If you have the iPod set to automatically transfer songs, and you no longer want a copy of those songs on either the iPod or in iTunes, simply delete the songs in iTunes. Highlight the songs you no longer want then right click and select "clear", or from the edit menu select "clear". Next time you connect the iPod, the songs will be deleted from there also.
Only do this if you no longer want the songs on both the iPod and your computer.
You can also use the "only update checked songs" method in the iPod options (right click on the iPod in the source list in iTunes and select options, then select "only update checked songs"). With this preference checked, you can remove the check mark from the songs in iTunes that you no longer want on the iPod. The next time you connect the iPod, those unchecked songs will be removed from the iPod whilst still being retained in iTunes. You can check and uncheck songs as you change your mind about what songs you want to put on the iPod.
If you have the iPod set to manually manage your songs, and you want to delete the song from the iPod only, then select the iPod in the source list of iTunes, or click on the "music" option underneath it to show all your songs. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear", or use the edit menu as previously mentioned.
This method only deletes the songs from the iPod, so if you no longer want the song in iTunes also, you'll need to delete it from there separately using the method above.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, all these settings can be found in the summary screen.
If you want to delete everything from the iPod and completely erase the hard drive and start from scratch, then you can restore the iPod to factory settings.
Only do this if you have the songs in your iTunes library, or a back up somewhere other than the iPod itself.
Don't know the answer to your audiobook question. I don't use them.

  • Deleting Songs from Nano 7 - Problems!

What should be a simple matter is made so complex by Apple that it is pure torture.
Why is it so complicated to delete songs from Nano 7?
I've tried the "uncheck the boxes" and re-sync nonsense.  Yes, it got rid of some songs -- but it ADDED songs I NEVER checked!
And after multiple re-syncs, without those songs checked, these ghost songs keep appearing.
Frustrating with a capital F -- and a reason this is my last Apple product.  Ever.

Are you loading songs using automatic syncing?  It sounds like it, but I'm not sure.  Using the checkboxes next to songs is not the appropriate way to remove songs.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons going across, near the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music, if it's not already checked.  Since you want to select what does and does not go on the iPod, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, select the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres you want on the iPod.
If you want to make this simple, you can try this approach for setting this up.  Create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  You can call it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  To this playlist, add ALL of the songs you want on the iPod.
Back on the iPod's Music screen, select "iPod Songs" under Playlists; you can select other things if desired.  When you click Apply, all of the songs in your selection, including the "iPod Songs" playlist, sync to the iPod.  Going forward, when you want to remove songs from the iPod or add songs to the iPod, just update that playlist in iTunes.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), the same changes are automatically synced to the iPod.
That should solve your problem with deleting songs.  Just maintain the playlist in iTunes, and iTunes maintains the iPod automatically.  You can, of course, maintain more than one playlist in iTunes, and sync them all to the iPod (up to the capacity limit of the iPod).  Be sure to checkmark all of those songs you unchecked in your iTunes music library.
Note that there are other buttons next to Summary and Music.  Those are for setting up automatic syncing for those other types of iTunes content.
If you are using the manual method (dragging songs to the iPod in iTunes to load), and not automatic syncing, please post back.

  • Deleting song from nano

How do I delete song from my nano?
I'm even willing to do a complete 'system re-boot, if necessary.

To remove songs from your nano (automatic transfer mode) you should go to you library uncheck the boxes at the side of the songs you want to get rid of, then connect your ipod and it will update without these songs. If you are on manual transfer mode, connect your ipod, wait for it to register in itunes, then click on "Your Ipod" find the songs you dont want, right click and go to clear.
    Hope this helps

  • Delete song from Nano

how do I delete a song from my Ipod Nano, 7th generation?

Remove the song from the list of items in iTunes set to sync with the iPod, and then sync it. If you're syncing it manually, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, find that song, and press Delete.
There is no way to do that from the device itself.

  • Deleting songs from Nano

Even though I have the boxes
"Open I Tunes when this iPod is connected" and "Manually Manage music" ticked, itunes does not launch when My Ipod is mounted.
I open iTunes from the dock. Although The summary page is indicating that the ipod is full, I can see no record of what it contains so I don't know how to delete some songs to make more room.
    I would appreciate some suggestions

    Thank you Zevoneer
When I mount the iPod I sometimes get the message - your Icon is full etc.
If I double click the ipod icon, the contents are displayed as calendars, contacts, notes, photos but no mention of music.
    I then launch iTunes.
The iPod is selected and the summary window is showing.
If I double click the small iPod icon to the left on the selected iPod under devices, the normal iTunes music list appears. The summary window remains on the screen also.

  • I want to create a playlist on an old iPod Nano (I think it's from the second generation), but the computer it was originally linked to via iTunes died years ago.  How can I make a playlist out of existing songs on the iPod?

    Hello there,
I have an old iPod nano which I think is from the second generation (model number A1199 if that helps) with software at the latest version it can accept, 1.1.3.  I wish to make a playlist out of the songs currently on the iPod, but I can't see any easy way to do that from the iPod itself.  The next logical thought is to do it through iTunes, but the iTunes that was originally synced to the iPod died several years ago now, so I can't access that to make a playlist through (it's a very old iPod).  I do have iTunes currently on this computer, but that's synced with my iPhone and stores different songs which I don't want to be mixed with those from the old iPod (due to the mostly nostalgic nature of the iPod songs).  Is there any way I can either create a new playlist from the iPod itself, or through iTunes without having to sync?  Also note that most of the songs on the old iPod were uploaded to iTunes from CDs and so aren't connected with any iTunes Login.
Thanks for any help you can give.  Also, I sorta need to create this playlist ASAP so any advice you could give would be much appreciated

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen... Deleting Songs from iPod while connected to iTunes

    Hello,
There are some songs on my iPod Nano that I want to delete from the iPod but still keep in Library...
When I connect my iPod to my Mac, all of the songs show up that are on my iPod but I am unable to click the song and delete it from my iPod.
All of the songs are not bold like when I look at them in my library.
I can't click on any of the songs... when I hold the control button and click my mouse the only thing that pops up is a menu that features:
    Get Info
    Reset Play Count
    Reset Skip Count
    Show in Playlist
    Apply Sort Field
    Can anyone help me????
    Thank you very much!

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for 1st and 2nd generation iPod shuffles, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the these). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD or an external drive:
How to back up your media in iTunes
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod Nano in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

    I have MBP 13 late 2011:

Secondly, if i delete a song from itunes,is that song removed from the mac and is the space freed up?If not then what should I do to free up space when i delete songs from itunes?

Your MBP will support a 3T HDD provided it is formatted correctly and has sufficient power.  Most large HDDs require an outboard power source.
When you delete songs from iTunes you will get a message if you want to send it to trash.  If you send it to trash, space will be freed up only when you empty trash.  An individual song does not consume much space so if your HDD is becoming full, more drastic action s should be considered, such as moving an entire file to an external HDD.
    Ciao.

  • Why won't my laptop recognize my iPod nano second generation when I plug it in via USB? It does recognize my ipad mini. I was hoping to transfer music from my iPod to my ad mini

Why won't my laptop recognize my iPod nano second generation when I plug it in via USB? It does recognize my ipad mini. I was hoping to transfer music from my iPod to my ipad mini

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. You can use some third party software like this iPod file transfer, it can help you copy files from iPod to computer, and then you can use iTunes to sync the music to your iPad mini.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • How to delete songs from iPod touch 5th generation

How do I delete songs from an iPod Touch 5th genration. We tried many other forums with the swiping method, but when we tried it, a picture of a cloud with a red arrow appeared after tapping the delete button appeared and the song remained.

Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and turn off Show All. That way only downloaded songs will show in the Music app.

Please if anyone could reply to the possible ways of fixing this error I will be grateful.
I have tried to provide as much information as I can .
-Yes , my iTunes is updated to the latest version.
-My iPod is a Silver Ipod Nano Second generation 4GB's
-It is fresh from the box
-My computer is a Windows XP Pro.
    Thanks for your time.

For this, first try going through the dll fix outlines in article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304508
If that doesn't work, try doing a selective startup through MSCONFIG (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538), and then updating the iPod.

  • IPod Nano Second Generation Freezes Every Morning

I bought an 8G iPod Nano second generation about a month ago. I love it! I use it with Windows XP. Every morning when I turn it on for the first time, it freezes up when I play a Podcast or Audio book. It also does it with songs but not as much. I push the reset buttons for 5 seconds until the Apple symbol comes up, it resets and then it works fine for the rest of the day.
It seems like it gets messed up after I connect it the iTunes library on my computer. Does any one else experience this problem?
    Dell   Windows XP

I'm not sure you were experiencing the same problem:
    1. Sync iPod.
    2. Let iPod fall asleep for some period of time (a few minutes doesn't cause the problem; beyond 15-20 minutes does).
    3. Awaken iPod and play a podcast -> iPod freezes.
I and many others have experienced this same problem. Yet, I don't have any life updating smart playlists referring either to podcasts or to playlists not on the iPod.
Sometimes, playing a song track before playing a podcast will work. If the song plays, subsequent podcasts will, too. However, the song track often freezes, too.
Also, if you reset the iPod at any point between synching and playing the podcast, the problem is averted.
Apple has yet to acknowledge this bug despite the multiple threads. I presume that the scenario required to reproduce it is still rare (synching podcasts yet waiting for some time before playing the first one).

  • Possible little glitch with the Nano(second generation)

It may just be my iPod i'm not sure, but if I select a song by author then go to my songs directly it dosn't show that that song is playing with the "<))" icon. This leads to other smaller glitches with song selection. Again, this is only minor so it's nothing to freak out about. Just wanted to put it out there. Has anyone noticed this besides me??<br>

Do you mean this by any chance?
See: Some songs don't don't show under artist on my iPod.

  • Can delete songs from iPod shuffle automatically but not podcasts

Suddenly when I delete songs from my iTunes library they will also be deleted on my iPod shuffle, which is what I want, but when I do the same with podcasts (delete them from my iTunes library) they do not automatically get deleted from my Shuffle.
Any ideas on what's wrong?  Thanks.

    Hi, Jixx0615.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When you try to delete from a device running iOS 7, make sure to hold your finger on the song for a few seconds before swiping to the left. This should expose the red Delete button.
    Try Again,
