Deleting songs completely from iphone 4 (ios5) and re-syncing.
I am having the same issue as what is metioned here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3380792?start=0&tstart=0 with my iphone 4. I have tried following what it says there but unchecking and syncing does not remove the songs. The same thing just keeps happening. I have over 2000 songs on my iPhoneand only a handful of them work. What else can I do? Can I delete them 100% completely off the phone? And then try syncing again? Does the "restore" button remove apps and songs? I am not sure where to go from here. I have looked at a few articles and nothing helps.
I am having the same problem. I want to be able to manage my podcasts on my iPhone without syncing them to iTunes. I want to have them available on iTunes, even though I rarely listen to them there, in order to view the descriptions of the podcasts - Fresh Air is one podcast that you can't tell what you want to download without viewing a description.
If I say, "don't sync podcasts" it deletes all the podcasts on my phone when I sync.
If I sync them, it deletes the ones that I've downloaded that are older than # specified "most recent." This is a problem because I listen to a sequential language learning series and am about a year behind "most recent."
I would like to manage my iPhone podcasts and my computer's podcasts completely indepdently of each other. How can I do this?

The you would ned to use the backup copy of tht computer to put everything on the new computer.

You do not have to restore it, but you cannot access the music at all from this other computer until you sync it, which will erase the content.
"And just to clarify: I don't have any problems with playing the content that remains on my iPhone, it's just the managing and deleting of this content."
I understand completely.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -
I have purchased some songs on my iPhone and my iPod and when I sync them to my iTunes account they get duplicated. Both songs work. I can't deselect one, when I try it deselects both. Same if I try to delete one. I can delete it from my iPhone or iPod, but when I sync them it gets put right back on there.
There is an issue with the way the account is set up. Songs cannot download "from" a phone or iPod. But the settings can be set for auto download from the account.

How to remove songs/albums from Iphone 5 S and itunes library inorder to add new songs
I have an Iphone 5, 7.1.2 model. I have been attempting to add new songs onto my phone but do not have any available space. Although I have deleted and removed apps and other space eating products from my phone, I still do not have enough space to add the new songs that I would like to include on my phone. The final option would be for me to remove some songs from my phone that I no longer listen to. Problem is, I can't seem to find a way or any direction on just how to do that. Wonder if anyone has successfully removed songs from their phone and/or library as a way to free up space to replace them with new songs?

After deleting songs manually from my phone, (say, I have a song on there twice and only want one or I realize I don't want a song on my iPhone) when I try to manually pick a song in the music app on my phone, the song that plays will be one that is a number of songs above the one I chose. If I delete a number of songs, it may be four or five songs above the one I want to play. It continues after I sync it in iTunes. How do I stop this? Thanks, Gregg

Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

I tried this, firstly de-clicked the title in iTunes and syned with my iPhone4 but the title is still there on the phone. so deleted the title from iTunes and re-syned but alas the title is still there.

I have a friend who switched from iPhone to Samsung and I am only one that has to turn off iMessage to send a text! I have deleted her then readded and nothing seems to work and she has turned off iMessage on her other apple devices. Is there a solution!

Yes, but be sure she is on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID before deleting anything. Be sure there is nothing that you want to keep on your device too. When you delete the data from iCloud it will be deleted from all devices signed into the account. Then you can delete the data from the existing account by doing the following:
To delete the contacts, go to iCloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For Calendars, open the calendar on icloud.com, click Edit on the bottom left, then tap the minus sign to the right of each calendar to delete it.
For Notes, open notes on icloud.com, click on each note on the left, then click Delete at the top to delete it.
For Reminders, open reminders on icloud.com, click on each reminder and press your Delete key to delete it.
For Mail, open your mail on icloud.com, click each folder on the left (such as your inbox), click on a single message to the right, press Control-A on your keyboard to select them all, then press your Delete key. Repeat this for each of your mail folders except Trash. When finished, click on the actions (gear-shaped) icon on the bottom left and select Empty Trash.
If you also want to delete your iCloud backups you can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage on your device, tap the name of your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup. -

I deleted a photo from iphone 5 in october. however, all files were backed up to icloud. now i want to restore my phone to an earlier date in october, but it only showed me back up made yesterday and 2 more back ups which were made 20th dec abd 19th dec. my phone backs up automatically. want to know how will i restore my phone to an earlier time back in october?
Connect your iPhone to Computer. On iTunes left Pane, under "Devices" right mouse click iPhone and select "Restore from Backup..." then select one of the three backup (Date and Time)

Not if you're using iTunes Match. You can only delete all downloaded music by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music, then tapping Delete. Then redownload the music you want from iCloud. If you aren't using iTunes Match, you can try swipping the album/songs to see if Delete appears; not sure if this works in iOS 6 or not. (It doesn't with iTuens Match anymore.)

Based on visiting previous discussions on this subject, I've tried "resetting network settings" and "turning airport mode ON, deleting messages, then turning airport mode OFF" -- to no avail. Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only wipe your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely. -

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
