Deleting songs downloaded to my iPhone...

Hey all,
I had to sync my iphones itunes library to another computer and I downloaded all the purchased songs to my phone (didn't really thing ahead here) and now I can't get the songs I don't want off phone even though they aren't checked to be synced to my phone.  How do I get the songs I don't want off without having to erase the whole thing and start over?  I have a lot of contacts on there I don't want to lose, and I don't know if doing a 'restore' will just put me back where I was in the first place.

Simply swipe across the song and tap "delete."

I download apps directly to my iphone.  When I sync with my laptop, how do I avoid having sync delete apps, photos/vdeos, songs downloaded on my iphone?

If you are syncing to the same computer that you always sync to, and have each of the items in itunes that you want synced then you shouldnt have an issue. The only way you would have an app come off your phone is if you uncheck that app from syncing in th apps location in itunes.

  • How do delete songs download from iCloud on iPhone 5?

I have iTunes Match and I turned this on within my iPhone 5. I also have the option to show all music that is on my iTunes match, these are the songs from my computer.
I want to point out that I have an iPhone 5 64GB with iOS7. When I stream a song via iCloud on my iPhone, and not download the song by pressing the song title and not the iCloud icon, I am not able to delete that song, by swiping on the song from the right. If I downloaded the song by pressing the iCloud download icon, I am able to delete that song, after it is downloaded.
So how can I delete the song that I streamed from iCloud on my iPhone 5? Can I do this from my iPhone?
I do believe that I am able to remove this song by syncing my iPhone to my computer, but I should not have to do this to remove a song that is on my phone.

Emails from iCloud cannot be lost.
Emails from other accounts are not backed up via iCloud, only the settings for those accounts.

  • How do I delete songs directly from my iPhone 5s?

How can I delete specific songs directly from my iPhone 5s? I do not have a personal computer to download the iTunes app. I need to make room for the new iOS 8.0 update.

You can delete individual tracks by swiping/dragging across them from right-to-left on the song selection screen in the Music app. But check that the single/album is still available in your country's store, if the rights-holder has removed it then you won't be able to redownload it (and similarly if you delete any apps, films etc, they could also have been removed from the store)

  • HT1849 After I delete songs manually from my iPhone 5s, when I try to pick a song, it will not chose that song but some song above it.  How far up depends on how many I've deleted.  How can I stop this so I can pick the correct song the first time?

After deleting songs manually from my phone, (say, I have a song on there twice and only want one or I realize I don't want a song on my iPhone) when I try to manually pick a song in the music app on my phone, the song that plays will be one that is a number of songs above the one I chose.  If I delete a number of songs, it may be four or five songs above the one I want to play.  It continues after I sync it in iTunes.  How do I stop this?  Thanks,  Gregg

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.
    Cheers,

  • On Ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the iPhone

on ios 7 how do you delete songs directly on the phone

    i think i stumbled onto a solution.
the upgrade to os7 brought a bunch of music into my phone i didn't care to hear anymore.
(free downloads from the itunes twitter feed..some of them are good, most of them i normally delete immediately)
i had 3 pesky songs that would not allow me to delete.
every other song in my library gave me the option to delete, just not the ones i never wanted to hear again.
..super frustrating when the song keeps starting over everytime you touch it while scrambling for a delete option.
they were purchases which i'd hidden.
i plugged to computer and tried to use iTunes to delete but they did not appear.
all "show all" options for music and video were off.
    itunes match was off.
    all automatic downloads were off.
    "show all music" was off.
i logged out of my apple ID for several minutes.
i think this may have given time for my account to resynchronize the items i didn't want to see anymore.
i've logged back in and they're still gone.
i don't care if i hear a new eric clapton song again for the rest of the year thank you.

  • I can't delete songs off of my iPhone while in the "On this iPhone" tab in iTunes?

Well what I'd like to be able to do is to delete songs while in the "on this iPhone" tab. It's the one that allows you to add songs straight to your phone without going through the trouble of syncing or selecting playlists and all that. I believe it is more convenient to do this than to have only certain things sync because I can add or delete only a couple songs at a time. The issue is that there does not seem to be a delete option in this menu. I've searched and can only find solutions that talk about going through a whole syncing process. Hopefully there is an easy way to delete so I don't have to go through the giant mess of syncing everything.

    Hello bval2016,
Thank you for the question.  If you are not able to manually sync music to your iPhone 4s, I recommend checking if you have the "Manually manage music and videos" option enabled in the Summary tab:
To delete songs from the "On this iPhone" section, highlight the songs and press the delete key on your keyboard.  You can find all the steps to manually sync music in the following article:

  • Deleting songs downloaded from cloud?

Is it possible to delete songs I downloaded from my purchase history on my iPad?

ok, appologize for that i read both responses to this issue and figured people were wanting to be able to delete directly from the ipad/ipone.  So by you saying "i have tried to sync it up....." that you are syncing to itunes.
so i have tried to duplicate the proplem you are having and here's the results, please if you want let me know if i have steered away again from what your problem is.
I have my itunes as "manualy manage music and videos" so i downloaded a song from the cloud to my ipad. I then plugged in my ipad to my mac and view my ipads library. I was able to highlight the song in itunes on the ipad library and successfully delete it.  I then unpplugged ipad from my mac and the song was gone.  I was also able to delete the song from the itunes library itself. Once i deleted the song i went to my ipad and went to the itunes app and redownloaded the song i deleted.
The only thing i can think of is which may or may not be the case in your situation is that you have sync checked songs and videos selected under your sync options in summary. In this case then you will lose control over your ipad music in itunes program but still you would be able to uncheck a song in the itunes library itself and then syn and it should be gone on the ipad.
I hope something in my succsesfull experiance of deleting a song from my ipad that was downloaded from the cloud and then redownloading it from the cloud will help in some way.  My environment is ipad2 and mac os. It shouldn't make a difference if you have ipad1 or ipad2 but you never know if your using a pc it may have problems i know i had some problems when i used to have a pc not necesarily THIS problem but some other big headaches once i got a mac (im not advertising here just the facts) those problems are a thing of the past.
If you need to give me a little more details about your problem that i hav'nt been able to discern please do so i will rerun the cenario and see what i can come up with. If indeed what I've done is exactly what you've tried then i would call apple on the issue. They don't have an "Itunes support division but tech support would be who would help you. you can also do the chat with one in itunes store support on the computer.

  • Is there any way to delete songs directly from my iPhone without using iTunes?

I'm trying to delete music directly from an iPhone 4 in iTunes on the device rather than using my laptop to delete and then sync it. Is there any way to delete music completely from my phone without using my latop?

I tried this, firstly de-clicked the title in iTunes and syned with my iPhone4 but the title is still there on the phone. so deleted the title from iTunes and re-syned but alas the title is still there.
    any ideas?

  • I need help deleting songs from my new iphone.  The songs don't show up in library, they're unchecked and I've synced only the checked songs, but they're still on my brand new phone.  I've swiped my finger to the left, and that doesn't work.

They have the icloud symbol beside them.  Does that make a difference?

    Hello Jensones,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with music on your iPhone 5s.  It sounds like you're seeing your iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
The items you see with the iCloud icon next to them are purchased songs that you can stream from iTunes in the Cloud and do not have a delete option because they are not actually on your device.  You can hide all these songs in Settings on the iPhone:
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud: Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
These steps are from the iPhone User Guide:
    iPhone User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph6e2dfb83
If there are just specific songs you would like to hide, you can hide them using the iTunes Store on your computer:
    To hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking on Music, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from top.
Hover your cursor over the item you want to hide.
You will see an "X" either to the right or left top corner of the item.
Click the "X" to hide that item. A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the "X."
Once you hide the songs on your computer, I recommend quitting and relaunching the Music app on your iPhone.  You can find more information about hiding purchases here:

  • ITunes Match song download error on iPhone

All songs matched or uploaded sucessfully.
I've tried to download just 1 playlist after enabling match on my iPhone 4, but 3 songs are stuck in download queue in iTunes (phone).
They say 'download error, tap to try again'
When I tap the progress bar shoots up really fast then at processing they fail.
    Anyone any ideas?

The only way that worked for me was deleting the songs in iTunes (both iCloud and Mac while keeping the files). Then updating iTunes Match. Next, drag and drop the album back to iTunes and update Match.
Next, on iPhone, the only way that worked to download them is to actually playback each song in the album NOT "download all" button or even individual download button. If I use the buttons, it downloads part of the song then I get the error message or it stops midway and you can't delete the song from the download queue. Again, the only way that worked for my iPhone was to playback each song without skipping any of them and they easily downloaded on my phone. Hope this helps
PS: The check downloads on iTunes did nothing to me as it never showed the iOS queue items, only my undownloaded purchases from iTunes Store.

  • HT1725 Deleting non downloadable movie from iPhone 4

I tried to redeem digital copy of movie. Apparently. There iOS not enough storage to download it  how do I delete it?

        Hi finsup317,
Let's get your text messages flowing! If you have access to your previous iPhone please ensure that it is connected to internet via WiFi so that changes will sync with you Apple ID. Now go to Settings>Messages>Move iMessage to off. If you have other Apple devices (iPad, iPod, etc.) registered to same Apple ID as your phone, you need to deactivate iMessage on all of them, otherwise your messages will continue to go to your Apple ID instead of your new phone.
If you do not have access to your previous iPhone go to http://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do Log in with your Apple ID and password. Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example). Click ‘Unregister’. You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again.
**Important ** by unregistering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless you reregister it.

  • How can I delete songs downloaded from Limewire on my 3rd Generation iPod Nano?

I have a friend with the 3rd Generation iPod Nano that downloads music from Limewire on her iPod. She does not have an iTunes and wants to erase all the music tracks on her iPod but does not know how. What does she need to do?

Your friend will have to do this via iTunes. All she needs to do is connect the iPod to the computer the click the link to iTunes on the side bar, click "Restore" and everything will be restored to original (factory) settings and all songs will be deleted.

  • Undoing iTunes Match songs downloads on my iPhone?

I have over 48,000 songs in iTunes Match.
All of my songs showing on my iPad are in the iCloud. But some of my iTunes Match songs on my iPhone are downloaded onto my phone and I don't want them to be.
How do I reverse them into just being in the iCloud?

That approach works when I am loading new music.
I have found it doesn't work for music that has been loaded much earlier in time. For those songs, the swiping my finger to the left approach doesn't work.
I noticed recently that sometimes the songs that appear to be downloaded on my phone - that show no cloud by them - will subsequently show a cloud, which might mean that they actually aren't downloaded on my phone but something isn't working or efficient with iTunes Match.
Has anyone had that happen to them? Are some of my issues potentially due to the number of songs I have on iTunes Match?
