Deleting songs from a single iTunes library?

I recently got a new laptop, and transferred many of my songs off of my desktop computer to my new one. I have home sharing turned on between the two. I want to delete songs from my laptop's library that I don't want, without deleting them from my main desktop. Every time I attempt to delete a song, it pulls up with the option of deleting it with computer's synchronized with mine, as well as from iCloud. I don't want to delete it from the computer synchronized with mine (Desktop) or from iCloud. Even if I turn off homesharing and try to delete music, it won't remove the music without my checking of the 'Remove from iCloud' box, only making a little cloud download sign next to the song. I'm trying to get organized and I need help.
Thanks!

Regarding the feature to reduce the files to 128k... is it possible to change this setting to something like 192k or 256k?
not in iTunes, but you can use this:
Lossless to AAC Workflow v2.2
Two scripts assist with importing/managing Apple Lossless or AIFF audio files and sending converted AAC copies to a mounted iPod set to "manually manage songs and videos".
Lossless to AAC Workflow (CD->iPod):
Imports each enabled CD track as an Apple Lossless or AIFF file Makes a converted AAC copy of each imported file Adds the AAC file to iPod, deleting the original AAC from iTunes.
Lossless to AAC Workflow (iTunes->iPod):
Makes a converted AAC copy of each Apple Lossless or AIFF track selected in iTunes Adds the AAC file to iPod, deleting the original AAC from iTunes. In this way you can keep archived lossless files on your hard drive, and manageable AAC files on your iPod.
Yes, iTunes 9.1 will auto-encode tracks to iPod, but only 128 kbps AAC; these scripts enable use of your Custom AAC encoder setting.

Your question has probaby been answered already because it was posted a month ago but anyways what you do is you plug your phone into your computer. Next you want to open iTunes and click on File. Then you go down to "Transfer Purchases from *your name* iPhone". Then just wait for it to sync and you should be good.

can we copy back songs from iPhone to iTunes library, once if deleted from iTunes library ?

Have you not got a backup of your content ? iTunes will only copy back purchases that you made from Apple. For music from other sources you will need to find a program from another source which can copy them back from the phone - if you do a search on google you might find some. Or depending from where you got them from can you re-download them from those sites ?

  • Delete songs from comp not itunes

Just wondering if i can delete songs from my computer but keep them in itunes so they stay on my ipod. It would help alot to get rid of 2g of songs.

"if i can delete songs from my computer but keep them in itunes
If you delete the song from your computer then only a reference to it and it's original location will be in iTunes so there won't be a file to load onto your iPod. iTunes is only a database to manage the songs that are on your computer, the song file has to be somewhere on the computer to be able to play it.

  • How many apple tv devices can stream personal videos from a single iTunes library

I'm doing some initial investigation on the matter and I've not been able to get a definitive answer to this question...
Is there a limit to the number of Apple TVs that can stream videos from the same iTunes library, and if so, what is the limit?
I'm not talking about content purchased over iTunes, I'm thinking exclusively homemade video content encoded in the appropriate video format for use with iTunes.

disregarding the bandwidth limitations, is there a limit to the number of devices one could use for this? If I understand this correctly, the device limit only applies to iTunes content, and not so much a personal (non-iTunes store purchased content) library.

Not a good idea at all to only have info in one place.
You could try , at your risk, purchasing a third party program that may extract info ( not supported by Apple).

  • How can I transfer songs from Ipod to Itunes library?

I recently lost my entire Itunes library but still had songs on my Ipod. Now when I try to rebuild my library by transferring songs FROM my Ipod TO the Itunes library, I am unable to. There are a million help subjects of how to transfer your songs from the library to the ipod but none about how to transfer them back and I can't figure it out. Please help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do i upload ONE song from my pc itunes library to icloud?!!!!

    Hi,
I just recently imported a song from a cd to my pc into itunes. I need to access it on another one of my Ios devices. The status of the icloud status of the song in itunes on my pc says waiting. Does anyone know how to upload that one particular song to icloud for access on my ios devices?
    Thanks!
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Hello there mmmnl5,
You may need to quit iTunes, perhaps restart the computer and use the Update iCloud function outlined here.
Some songs appear to be missing from iTunes Match
Songs purchased from multiple Apple IDs
Songs containing DRM (Digital Rights Management) may not appear, or may appear grayed out in iCloud. This can occur if your computer is not authorized for playback of that content. Try authorizing your computer, then manually update iTunes Match.
To determine what Apple ID your computer needs to be authorized for, locate and select the song in your iTunes library.
    Choose File > Get Info.
In the Summary tab, locate the Account Name field in the right column and write it down.
    Click OK.
Choose Store > Authorize this Computer.
Type in the account name from the Summary field and its password. Click Authorize.
Choose Store > Update iTunes Match.
From: iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4054
Since your computer is already authorized you can skip that part.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • I DESPERATLY NEED HELP TRANSFERING SONGS FROM IPOD TO ITUNES LIBRARY

hi my computer crashed downstairs and i need help moving all my songs from my ipod to my itunes library, on the other computer...will someone please help me?

    Hello Markatkis,
Make sure your not connecting it to more than one PC. A new iPOd is set to "Auto Update" by default. With this setting all you do is plug the iPOd into the PC and iTUnes automaticly opens, loads all the songs it has listed in iTunes to the iPod, and after its done, ejects the iPOd.
If you connect it to another PC tho with iTUnes on it you usually get a promtp that in short says "iPOd library linked to another PC, do you want to link to this one" if you click yes, it wipes the iPOd clean and loads only whats on that PC.
Since your new to all of this a great place for you may be the "iPod 101" site. It will show you all the bacis ropes of using your iPOd, using iTUnes, and using them both together. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/

  • How to move songs from ipod to itunes library?

i recently rebooted my laptop and saved my current itunes library to my hard drive. i installed itunes after the reboot bu cannot get my old library back into itunes. is there also a way of sending the songs from my ipod to itunes?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

There is a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
