Deleting songs, not playlists

I've read how to delete playlists but how do I delete individual songs?

Are you talking about a song in iTunes or on your iPod?
If it's iTunes, then simply select the song, and press "Delete" on your keyboard.
If it's with your iPod, then connect it to your computer, click on it's name, and the same goes for the iPod as I said above; select the song or songs, and press "Delete".

  • Delete songs in playlists

How do I delete songs in playlists? I have doubles/duplicates in some and would like to clean up my lists.

Select the song(s) and press Delete.

  • Tired of paying for Apple's continued failure. Give us option on phone (NOT thru itunes sync) to MANUALLY delete songs from playlists or the iphone altogether.

It happens every time I make iTunes music purchases: entire playlists get wiped out, and all I can sync onto the iPhone 5 is what I just purchased, UNLESS, YET AGAIN, I completely restore it to factory and rewrite everything all over.
    So sad, Apple.
Yes, I have looked thru the forum threads yet again, and found no other working solution.
Yes, I tried backing up the phone 1st but still get stuck with (expletive) I wanted off the phone, and stuff I wanted on there, ISN'T there.
For whatever (insert expletive of choice) reason, it will NOT sync my old playlists.
For whatever (expletive) reason, if I check "manually manage music" under the Summary tab, then go over the music tab, something (expletive of choice)  up in the software decides to uncheck the "Manually manage music" box under the Summary tab, and it just creates a zero-progress loop where I can't sync the old playlists, or even new ones I create, onto the iphone.
Worse, songs I tried to take off of it long ago seem to manifest the (expletive) right back onto the iphone out of nowhere, and unless I completely restore, LIKE I'M DOING AGAIN, there is no working option I have found that removes the song(s) I THOUGHT I GOT RID OF.
PLEASE, Apple, is it asking too much to create a music sync that WORKS CORRECTLY all the time?
It is ONLY ever the music that does this.
App syncing, photo syncing, all of that functions properly each and every time.
And yet, oh look, it won't accept any playlists off my AUTHORIZED computer.
GIVE US THE SIMPLE option on the next iPhone update so we can manually remove/delete unwanted songs from playlists on the iphone, or from the iphone altogether, WITHOUT needing to connect it to a computer thru a faulty iTunes software that obviously consistently fails to properly sync the correct music on and take off what we don't want.
This is the final time I'm making the mistake of iTunes Store purchases until a sensible fix is implemented that addresses this fail sync issue.
Again, WHY is it ONLY and only ever the music syncing that (expletive of choice to get the point across) fails, yet apps and photos and mail & phone contacts sync correctly every time?
Yes, I read in the forum threads and customer support responses what needs to be checked and/or unchecked, yet all too often some software fail decides to revert those selections right back to where they were if I click another tab and come back to it (no, it's not an administrator thing, I am the only authorized user on the computers in question).
I'm tired of the hassle of having to redo my music library all over again, restore the phone, and hope that once more it will have the correct songs I told it to sync and NOT have a bunch of crap I never checked for it to have on there in the first place.
    FIX THIS PLEASE.

    You're welcome.

  • Cant delete songs or playlists

everytime i click on a song and press the delete button, itunes quits unexpectedly. I always relaunch it and no matter how much ways i try to delete a song or playlist, itunes always quits. the same goes for imovie and ical. i just recently installed ilife 08 so im guessing that is what caused this. can someone help me please.

Thank you both for your replies.
In addition to having to physically select and delete each and every song, I learned that you have to go up to the toolbar and select "eject". It's not a physical disconnect, but I guess that completes the removal process from the iPod's memory. It's the only thing that works.
I wish Apple's owner's manuals were updated to reflect this kind of stuff...now my iPod won't turn off unless I toggle it back and forth between Menu and Play. I will never buy another one, and will be looking for alternative MP3 players for two Christmas gifts I was going to buy for young 'uns.
    Thanks again.

  • How to synchronize iPod without deleting songs not in library?

    hello all,
I have a problem. I would like to synchronize my iPod to iTunes but I have some songs on my my iPod that are not present in library (Cd's that I have deleted from my library etc.) I am assuming that if I synchronize the two, then iTunes will delete any songs on the iPod that aren't present in the library. So I ask you, how do I get iTunes to only add songs present in the library and not delete songs on the iPod?
    Regards,
    Glen

Did you set your ipod to automatically synchronize?
This is from the 'Keyboard Shortcuts' in the Help menu:
    iPod shortcuts
Prevent iPod from automatically updating when you connect it to your computer
Command-Option as you connect the iPod to your computer (hold the keys down until the iPod appears in the iTunes Source list)
Next, set your iPod to manually update or update selected playlists in the preferences.

  • Delete song from playlist and library: only by Shift+Delete ? No right-click menu ?

Am I missing this function somewhere in the drop-down menu, when you right-click on a song from a playlist ?
I see only the "Delete" action, which only removes the song from the playlist, not from the library.
Same as pressing the Delete key on the keyboard.
Shouldn't there be both actions: "Delete From Playlist", and "Delete From Library" (the second one implies it is
also deleted from this playlist and from any other playlist).
And why is Shift-Delete not documented in the Help / Keyboard shortcuts ?

If you are deleting from a playlist and you want to delete for the library as well, you have to press shift and delete.

  • Installer deleting songs, not installing

Ever since I got my iPod, I've had problems with updating music to it, but mainly when trying to update with more than 100 songs. Recently, I updated to iTunes 5, as well as updating my iPod software. Now, it says that it's loading the new songs, but freezes in the middle, and when I disconnect, it has removed songs rather than uploading them. Anyone know what is the cause, and the solution to this problem?
    Thanks

Ok, I got around the problem, here's what I Did:
    Make iPod update manual
Then load only a few songs at a time (no need to delete any as it won't make duplicate songs)
go through your list of songs until the end
after thats done, include the play lists you want
Now I have all my songs and playlists.

  • Delete songs not downloaded from store

deleting songs never downloaded from store (just listened to)?

Is there a question here I missed?
If they were not downloaded, how did you listen to them?
Previewing them in the iTunes store does not add them to your library.

  • ITunes deleted songs/videos/playlists from iPod touch and won't sync them onto iPod, but songs can still be played on iTunes however I just can't transfer them back onto my iPod. HELP!

Hey, so I'm wondering if any of you can help me with this issue, I'd be unbelievably grateful for any help, I can't resolve it and I dislike my long commute without my iPod to listen to! Thanks in advance
HOW IT HAPPENED: I had my iPod touch (32GB, 3rd generation) plugged into a speaker charging whilst playing music, and simultaneously I had iTunes (latest version for windows) open on my laptop (Dell - Windows). My iPod started to sync wirelessly with iTunes on my laptop and my music suddenly cut off.
WHAT HAPPENED: Once the sync had finished, all (almost 4000) songs (and videos) had been wiped off my iPod (including any playlists) with the exception of less than thirty songs, all of which I'd noticed were songs I'd purchased on the iTunes store, a seemingly random selection though - some from a couple of months ago, some from a couple of years ago.
I closed down everything on my laptop and restarted both laptop, iTunes and iPod then plugged my iPod in to sync. My iTunes library on my laptop is fully intact, complete with playlists, and I'm able to play songs normally from there, however despite numerous attempts, they just won't sync onto my iPod. Interestingly, no apps were deleted from my iPod. There's plenty of room on my iPod now, and even when everything on my iTunes library is synced onto it, there's still around 3GB space, so it can't be an issue to do with lack of space. I have no idea why it's happened, and the settings are for everything on iTunes to be synced to my iPod (I checked again) so it's not an issue with selective items to sync only either.
A huge thank-you to anyone who can help me!

I have the same problem!! only thing is that i have the ipod touch 5th generation and a mac. I've been trying to find a way to get all my music to play cuz it will only play on itunes but when i try to play it on my ipod it'll just show a circle with a red square in the middle next to the songs i cant play.

  • Right Click and deleted Song from Playlist and want it back

I had duplicates in my playlist so deleted seconds...Now the one left won't play... Have tried to add the song back to the playlist and it shows up but still won't play.  I've deleted the playlist and then restored but the song(s) still won't play.  I can get another artist's version but not the artist I want.  CAN I GET THE SONG(S) BACK? If so, how?

As a user, you only have the option to restore entire playlists. If you want specific songs to be restored, you'll have to get in contact with the staff via an online contact form; if you get a no-reply, just reply and it will be send to a staff member.

  • Delete songs from playlist, library and off the hard drive at the same time

I have playlists full of captured radio streams that I keep briefly for discovering new music. But periodically I want to clean them out. I know I can delete the files from the playlist, then go in and delete the song from the main library, and the authorize iTunes to go ahead and move those songs to the trash. But since these songs are nice and efficiently grouped by playlist, I want to have the option to delete the songs from the playlist and at the same time remove them from the main library and move the actual files to the trash. Any way to do this?
I know the idea is to keep you from accidentally deleting your original song files just because you want to take them out of a playlist, but I want the option to get rid of them all together.

Answered: Select the song in the playlist, hit command-option delete, and you'll get a dialog box with the option of leaving the song in the main library or moving it to the trash.

  • Can't delete songs from playlists

While transferring my library to a new computer, songs were put into the wrong playlists. In trying to correct this, I find that itunes won't allow me to delete any songs from existing playlists. Nothing happens when you hit the delete button and delete is shaded out in the edit menu. What do you do (besides curse)?

    Nevermind....

  • How do I permanently delete songs not on my computer but are showing with a cloud (available to download).  Do not subscribe to iTunes Match.

I have songs showing with a cloud that my son at some time purchased that I want permanently deleted.  They are not on any computer but can be downloaded by clicking on the cloud.  I want them permanently deleted not hidden. Do not subscribe to iTunes Match.

Managing app updates with more than one Apple ID is overly complicated as you need to sign in and out of each account in turn, so you may want to avoid creating more accounts it either has been used to purchase apps. For media it isn't quite so bad, but Apple devices are limited to holding protected content from up to five Apple IDs so again I would caution against creating new accounts unless you really have to. I doubt that is the solution in this case. As given, if you hide the purchases in question, sign out, then sign in again, they should no longer appear unless already downloaded to the device, in which case delete them from it directly. In extreme cases where the device "knows" it has some piece of content on it that it won't let you access or delete the resolution is to backup the device, restore as a new device, then restore the backup you made earlier.
See also Use Parental Controls in iTunes to set content restrictions and Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing. I don't use either of these features so I don't have any practical expereince over and above what is in those support documents but perhaps they will help.

  • Deleted song not synced

IIt seems that some songs manually deleted on an ipod touch 4 with ios 5.0.1 are not resynced when ipod is synced from itunes again.

I've been struggling with this same problem for months.  I haven't solved it but one thing I've learned along the way is that if the song is appearing as grey letters instead of black that means its only partially downloaded to the phone.  If you go in and redownload it on your phone it should be selectable/uncheckable, etc.  The problem I'm running into now is after I download, then delete said songs they just show up again.

  • Deleting songs from playlists

I want to get rid of podcasts episodes in my top 25 playlist. Is there a way to keep the podcast but remove it from the playlist?

If you auto-sync your iPad, in iTunes just right-click on the playlist name and select "Edit smart playlist".  Then click the "+" to add a new line of criteria "Media Kind is not Podcast" if you want to exclude Podcasts from this playlist.  Then re-sync your iPad.
If you manually manage content on your iPad, either do this playlist editing on the iPad while connected to iTunes, or delete the playlist from your iPad and drag over the edited copy from your iTunes library.
