Deleting space between events in IMovie

How do you trim the space between events? I am trying to take a video that was emailed in 3 parts and put it together again and I need to just remove the spaces between the selections.

I am also puzzled by this loss of disk space when iMovie imports iPhoto for the first time. Would also like to reclaim that space back.

Hello everyone!
first of all sorry if this questions is in the wrong place!
Anyway, I was wondering if there is ANY way to remove the spaces between video clips in imovie 10? The Spaces look like little black vertical lines... I'm trying to sync my video with a song that im using, and this proves to be very hard when i cant see where my video clips ACTUALLY start in the timeline....
ANY help is apreciated! let me know if i need to be more specific!

The black lines are just placeholders for adding transitions. If there is no transition the skimmer will jump to the start of the next clip. Easy way to find start of clip is to turn on snapping in view mwnu or hit the N key. Basically you can ignore the black lines unless you want to drop in a transition.

I guess you r aware of this syntax: &symbol(Z)& use this it will supress the spaces between and even use this and c &symbol(c)& here symbol is nothing but the string u want to supress.

How do I delete space between clips in the timeline.

I am adding several hundred photo's to the timeline. When I add them as a group, the the duration of each photo differs. I select a group of photo's, change the duration to 4.00 seconds and the clips change to 4 seconds but then there is a large space between each clip. Is there a way to select a group of clips in the timeline and have them connect to each other? How can I remove the space between clips?

What you are describing happens when you have the position tool selected.
Hit 'A' to make sure you are using the select tool (also known as the 'Arrow' tool, hence the 'A' shortcut).
Unfortunately, your screenshots do not show which tool is active, but I am pretty convinced that that is your problem. Like Russ said, their look pretty similar to each other. But they work very differently.

How to delete spaces between each characters of a string in a file

In my program, I have a string, for example: str='abcdefg', when I print the string in command window, there is no space, everything is Ok But when I use the following method to write the string in a file(Mystring.txt):

when I open the file, between each character , there is a space, like "a b c d e f g", how to solve this problem? any idea or method?

The spaces appear because you are using a DataOutputStream.
In fact, a DataOutputStream uses a specific way to encode primitive types. Moreover, data written through a DataOutputStream are supposed to be read back using a DataInputStream.
You should better use a FileWriter (or an OutputStreamWriter) instead.

Deleted events in iMovie 10 does not reduce used space on hard drive

The used space on my hard drive doesn't reduce when I delete big footage (events) in iMovie 10.0.1. The deleted events were not moved to system garbage like in iMovie 11.
Any exlanation for that?

It depends on how you migrated from iMovie 11. When you convert your Events and Projects from iMovie 11, you have the option to keep your iMovie 11 Events and Projects. If you do, the iMovie 10 Events are created by using Hard Links to the files. This means that iMovie 11 and iMovie 10 both can point to the same file. Therefore, it does not take up any more space to have events for both iMovie 10 and 11. On the other hand, If you delete an Event from iMovie 10, but do not delete the corresponding event from iMovie 11, you do not gain any disk space back.
Also, note that if you ever move or copy these events to another drive, the hard link will not carry over. At that point, both the events will take up space (basically doubling the space needed.)

Will Deletion of project & event impact movie already sent to .Mac Gallery? - I want to free up drive space on my MBP (120 just doesn't cut it!), and deleting my multiple projects and events will help immensely. FYI, I have saved all the media DV clips on my external for future use. So I already broadcast / sent medium sized movies to .Mac Gallery, and I assume that since the media files (assuming quicktime .mov) are already on the web gallery (in my iDisk?) that I can delete the iMovie assets without any impact. Is this true? What is a good workflow, given what I have described above?

WORKFLOW
1) import clips into iMovie 08
2) create movie and share the quicktime to my hard drive (for viewing, posting, whatever) ... and broadcast to .Mac Gallery
3) move video assets (DV files) to external hard drive for future use, posterity, whatever
4) delete projects and events in iMovie
5) Run import into Foottrack for a compressed version of the clips on my Laptop
Sounds good to me. Not that familiar with FootTrack as I use iTunes for management of the "portable" files (i.e., single file compressed for iPod, iPhone, TV, and/or web use).

How do you move events and projects between Libraries in iMove 10

I am running OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks) & iMovie 10.0.5.
I am trying to free up space on my internal 1TB hard drive and want to archive events and completed projects onto an external hard drive, which has a second iMove v10 Library on. Under V9 of iMovie this function was easy, but I am struggling under V10.
What is the correct way to move events between libraries in iMovie.
When I attach the external drive containing my second iMovie Library, open it I can see all existing events stored (by move) under version 9 of iMovie.
Reading the Help (extract below) for this function it implies highlight the Event to move & then drag & drop into the second Library.
Shift+CMD with drag and drop onto the second library at the library name level will move Events that are not tied to a project, but for completed projects (Finalized under V9 or shared for example with iTunes in V10) it seems these can not be moved, the above function only copies them to the second library.
I have tried all different combinations of the Fn, Ctrl, Option CMD keys etc with and without SHIFT and the ones that work for this function only copy the event. I can not seem to get an event moved once attached to a project. File - Move Event will also move Events not tied to a completed project.
I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events. Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
What I have also not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
I have been able to move Events not tied to a Project to the second Library, then create a new project within this Library. This helps with all new projects & future import of Events. But does not help me free up current space by archiving.

Further to my original post below; I have done further analysis and it seams that if you have events tied to a project (mine are all finalised) you can not move events between Libraries. However, events that are not tied to a project can be moved. Either by Shift CMD or by using File- Move event.
What I have not been able to find is how to move a finalised Project to another Library and then see if events attached to that project would then move.
Copy works for events attached to a project. I have also tried copy to a second Library & then to delete the original events. Again it appears you can not delete events tied to a Project.
Does anyone know how to archive (move) Projects and/or events in iMovie 10.0.05 under Mavericks 10.9.5 to a second library on an external drive.

Can't delete event in imovie

So I was messing with imovie, and I deleted the content, but the event itself won't delete. It keeps saying I have an event from 7/23/14.

Deleting iPhoto events in iMovie

I do want to delete my iPhoto events / movies from the list in iMovie. For some reason I can only delete events / clips that were imported other than from iPhoto.
Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I checked the filestructure to possibly delete manually, but I cannot pinpoint files in either the iPhoto package (which increased tremondously after the initial import) or other places were these thumbnail files etc. are storted.
Anyone got a hint how to go about?
Note: I am aware that getting into the files manually poses a risk and I do keep backups to restore... in case. So risky hints are also welcome

Deleting an event on iMovie

I am trying to delete an event off my iMovie and for some weird reason, it won't let me. I have tried to go to 'File' and 'Move to Trash' but it comes up with a message saying 'The Library must contain at least one event' I looked it up and someone said to add another event. But i don't know how to. Is there any way to get that event off my iMovie?

iMovie, as it mentions in that error message, must have at least one event in its library, so before you delete that event you must create a new one. See this article for the steps to create an event -

Extra space between paragraphs: is there a way to delete that?

I am importing text from a word document to format in InDesign. It' 150 pages of a book that I'll layout.
I made a mistake when writing the book with word by creating a space between every paragraph, which I now want to get rid of.
Is there a way to automate this with InDesign? Is there some way to automatically delete the extra space betwen my paragraphs and add an indent instead?

You can do it by by seaching "^p^p" in find and replace "^p^t" with Find/Replace window. This will remove the extra line and set a tab to indent the text.

How to delete several spaces between clips on timeline

I have hundreds of clip selects in my timeline pulled on a particular track. However, they have spaces between all of them. How do I delete all of the spaces, so that I can view the clips back to back. I don't want to have to click on each space & hit delete a hundred times. In FCP you could just pull a clip to a separate track at the end & higlight the space from the beginning of the sequence to that clip + hold down the delete.. It would delete, delete, delete quickly, closing the gaps on other tracks where possible.
How can I do that efficiently in PremPro?!

Where do deleted events in imovie go?

it says "trash" but apparently there is no dedicated trash for imovie and the deleted events do not show in my mac trash. what is up? where are these deleted files? i have seen others ask this question on boards but no one seems to know where they actually go and if they are, in fact, deleted. anyone?

Just so there is no mistaking my question..i delted an event in imovie 10.0.2 on my macbookpro which i updated to maverick last week. the event was gone from my imovie library but never showed up in my finder trash. i DID NOT empty the trash before i looked there. i tried a few experimental deleting events from imovie and it never shows up in my mac finder trash. question: anyone know if, indeed, the event was deleted and if so, how (since i did not empty the trash, nopr did it even show up to empty)? And if not, where did the deleted events go?
