Can you select them? Do you see them in the Comments List? Is the file secured or digitally signed?

  • Disappearing Sticky Note Comments in Acrobat 9 PDF Reviews

I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.3.2) and the reviewers are using Reader 9, and all of us are on Windows XP SP3. I'm distributing PDFs for online review using a SharePoint site (SharePoint Server 2007).
We've observed the following behaviour if you Show Comments List and enter comments for a sticky note using the comment field in this list:
If your cursor is still in the comment field when you publish, you'll get a message saying that a new comment was published, but the contents of the sticky note are missing from the other reviewers' views. They can accept the new comment and the metadata for the sticky note will appear, but the comment will be missing.
If you publish again, you'll get a message saying that a comment was updated, and then the other reviewers will see the contents of the sticky note.
If you enter comments in another sticky note (and leave the cursor in the comment field) before you publish for the 2nd time, you get a message saying 1 comment has been updated and 3 new comments have been added when you hit Publish. Why 3 new instead of 1?
If your cursor is in the comment field, and you haven't published yet, and you do any other activity (such as sorting, filtering, collapsing the discussion), then whatever you had typed in the comment field disappears.
This same behaviour has been observed for replies to sticky notes.
Comments do not go missing if you type in the sticky note pop-up, or reply in the pop-up.
The obvious workarounds are to enter sticky notes in the pop-ups instead of the Comments List, or click elsewhere on the List before doing anything else, or hit Publish twice. However, I don't think we should have to work around this. So, before I ask Adobe to fix this behaviour, has anyone else seen it? Or is there something about how to use the interface that I'm missing?

I'm having no luck trying to add comments/sticky notes to a large pdf file in a trial version of Acrobat 9.3. I'm assured I have document rights enabled. I can't access the Navigation toolbar. I can't access the sticky note cursor. My email is [email address deleted by host]   Thank you. Adrian

    Yes,
Adobe Reader does not provided comment & mark up functionality by itself.
    It is simply a "viewer".
If a PDF is "enabled" or "extended" with Acrobat Professional (8 or 9) then Adobe Reader can permit a user to make comments.

  • Reader 9.1 won't print Sticky Notes/Comments

I had recently updated my organization to version 9.1 of Adobe Acrobat Reader from 7. I had to perform the reg hack on 7 to be able to let my users print the Sticky notes, but that does not work in 9 and I don't see a setting. How do I get around this? We can view the notes just fine, via screen, but who would have thought, we actually need to print these comments on our proofs from our customers.
Anyway, hope someone has an answer so we can continue on 9 and don't have to roll back.
    Thanks.

I'm still getting emails relating to this issue, so I thought I would post an update here...
I've now created a tool for Reader that allows you to print the contents of sticky notes as a part of the original document, without needing the expensive File Attachment right. All you need are the standard Commenting rights, which can be added in Acrobat.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.6 Sticky Note Icons are huge and can not resize

My coworker is having a problem with the size of the Sticky Note (comments) Icon.  It is huge and we can not resize.
When you open the icon, it takes up the whole page.  We can change the Font size, but the actual icon will not resize.
The same document opened up from someone else, the icon views normal. We all have Adobe Acrobat Pro V9.4.6.  Any suggestions on a fix?
    Thank You.

    JimJSC,
Your reply also helped fix a problem I had with not being able to resize sticky notes. My original display resolution meant that the resize symbols in the lower corners of the sticky note weren't accessible. In Acrobat X, the setting is under Acrobat, Preferences, Page Display, Resolution.

  • How to combine typed text from several pdf files into 1 (not comments)

I have a fillable pdf form that people can type answers to questions into, then save the pdf into an electronic file. Sticky notes are not used, as this pdf was created using Adobe LiveCycle Designer's text field (that is what they type into). I am wondering if there is a way to combine all peoples' answers from the text field all into one pdf document just like you can do to combine all sticky note comments into one single pdf. This is not a LiveCycle Designer type question. Thank you for your help!

You would have to flatten or print each filled form to a new file and then combine. If you try to combine multiple filled forms directly, you will end up with all of the pages having the same information since all the fields on each form have the same name. Since the form was create in Designer, you may only be able to print in Acrobat. Otherwise, you would probably have to do the changes in Designer. Once you have a file in Designer, you can no longer edit it in Acrobat and that is why the Acrobat route would probably require a print to the Adobe PDF printer for each form.

  • PDF's sticky notes batch sync

    Hello!
Is there any way to syncronize sticky notes (comments) betwen two copies of the same pdf file?
I know, it is possible to do it using 'expot/import comments' function, but i need to do it in batch mode, i.e. i have 100 pairs of pdfs and i want to join comments in each pair to one file.
I think it is posible to do it programically with some Acrobat API manupalation...
    Have you any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance, Ben

So, you think I have to post this question at Adobe Acrobat forum?

    Stampede, welcome to the forum.
Go to "Start", Search programs and files, type gadgets and Add gadgets to desktop.  You should find Sticky Notes.  If not, I am not certain that you will be able to reinstall it.

  • Printing Comments (Sticky Notes) in Adobe Reader 9

    Hi,
I know this question has been asked several times before, but I haven't seen any resolution to this problem. Does anyone know if Adobe is working on a patch/ fix for this problem?
In any case, my question is this: how do I print comments (sticky notes) using Adobe Reader 9. The following are the responses I have already tried and that have not worked:
    1. Select "Document and Markups" in the print menu. I have already tried this. It makes no difference. The document still prints without the comments.
    2. Go to Edit > Preferences and choose the "Commenting" tab. There is no "Commenting" tab in Reader 9. You are probably thinking of Acrobat 9.
    3. Edit the registry key. Too risky, and since we are working on the client's machine, this is not really an option.
Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Alas,
"Commenting" is not an available category in Adobe Reader's Preferences.

  • Comments (Sticky Notes) Compatibility Across Platforms

If I "Enable for commenting and analysis in Adobe Reader" whilst in Acrobat Pro running on a Mac, I can open the subsequent PDF file in Adobe Reader on a Mac and add Sticky Notes without a problem.
If I open the same file on a Windows platform, using Adobe Reader, I get an error message and am unable to add Sticky Notes.
I can't find any information about this error message or what it actually means.
    Is this a known problem?

@Amboos and @George Johnson: Thank you both for your input. The version of Acrobat I am using is the latest in both cases - Mac OS X : Acrobat X; Windows XP and 7 : Acrobat X.
But I have discovered what appears to be the key factor causing this problem.
As I am a Mac user, my testing on Windows platforms (XP and Windows 7) was taking place under 'virtual machine' conditions, with Windows installed on Macs running under either VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox.
It appears that under these conditions the error occurs, whilst under 'vanilla' Windows installs on pure PC platforms (XP and Windows 7) it does not.
This is the only instance of incompatibility I have discovered in using Windows installed on Macs, but one worth noting nevertheless.
Something does obviously happen to the Acrobat files during the transfer between pure Mac OS X and 'virtual' Windows running on Mac platforms.

Is it possible to right down comments directly on a page without the sticky notes?

However, you will be able to do this with updates to iOS 5 which will be released this fall. You will still have to use your computer to update to iOS 5, but all incremental updates after that will not require your computer.

  • Sticky notes in Acrobat X default to off-the-page and extremely large

    Hi!
I'm fighting an issue where sticky notes that I add to any PDF will always default to the far right (off of the screen) and they tend to be large (as in, the size of about 2 letter pages).  Everytime I add a sticky note to a PDF I must zoom out such that I can see multiple pages on my screen in order to get to the corner of the sticky note and proceed to make it smaller.  This is getting unbelievably tedious as I often review 100's of pages of PDF documents and make comments throughout.  I've tried deleting all of my Acrobat folders in C:\Users\<me>\AppData but the problem persists.  I did not have this issue in Acrobat 7.
I'm on Windows 7 Profession 64bit and am using Acrobat X Standard.  I hope I do not need to reinstall acrobat as I will have to get IT invoved to do that.
    Thanks for any help.

What is the OS and Acrobat language?

  • Can Sticky Notes be Moved Between PDF Documents?

Is it possible to distribute a PDF document to which recipients add sticky notes. Revise the initial documents (without adding sticky notes) and distribute it, and have the recipients move to the revised PDF document the sticky notes they applied to the initial document?

    Thanks Dave,
Is there any way to link a comment (sticky note) to a specific object rather than a page number, so that if:
    1) Comments are exported as data,
    2) The document is edited in Word to add or delete pages (ignoring all comments)
    3) A new PDF is created from the edited Word document
    4) Previously exported comments are imported to the new PDF so that they attach to the corrent objects, without being confused by pages being added or deleted?
Your additional help will be appreciated.
