Deleting the Gap

I am using final cut pro x and during my edit I want to use the blade tool and delete without creating a gap in my footage. How do I delete the gap or stop it from occurring? Thanks! - Jon

Use the delete key next to = not any other.

• How can I delete the gap tool from the tools panel?

I find it useless and I want the type tool where it has always been.
I'd like the pallets to be layed out like indsign CS3.
Thank You.

You can disable or remove it from the Extension Manager, but you can't remove the Page Tool that I know of and when you remove a tool from the toolbar things don't shift upwards, so you just have a gap where the Gap Tool used to be. Not all that helpful. If you do your toolbar as single column rather than the dual column that I prefer it's a non-issue.
Hope that helps.

• "Delete and Close Gap" on Premier 13 will "delete" a photo but will not "close the gap". How do I correct this?

The area just goes dark in the finished product for the time that was there before and the gap remains.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
Many of these Delete and Close Gap failures can be traced to content that is directly above or below the area of interest.
Depending on the circumstances, you may be forced to select the clip or clips in a group and do a manual close gap
with the mouse.cursor.
Please review the following as one instance of Delete and Close Gap Failure.

• *HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY*

HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY
I have set the RMAN CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY; on my physical standby server.
My archivelog files are not deleted on standby.
I have set the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default on the Primary server.
I've checked the archivelogs with the FRA and they are not beign deleted on the STANDBY. Do I have to do something for the configuation to take effect? Like run a RMAN backup?
I've done a lot ofresearch and i'm getting mixed answers. Please help. Thanks in advanced.
J

Setting the Policy will not delete the Archive logs on the Standby. ( I found a thread where the Data Guard product manager says "The deletion policy on both sides will do what you want" ). However I still
like to clean them off with RMAN.
I would use RMAN to delete them so that it can use that Policy are you are protected in case of Gap, transport issue etc.
There are many ways to do this. You can simply run RMAN and have it clean out the Archive.
Example :
#!/bin/bash
# Name: db_rman_arch_standby.sh
# Purpose: Database rman backup
# Usage : db_rman_arch_standby <DBNAME>
if [ "$1" ]
then DBNAME=$1
else
echo "basename $0 : Syntax error : use . db_rman_full <DBNAME> "
exit 1
fi
. /u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/env/${DBNAME}.env
echo ${DBNAME}
MAILHEADER="Archive_cleanup_on_STANDBY_${DBNAME}"
echo "Starting RMAN..."
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / catalog <user>/<password>@<catalog> << EOF
delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';
exit
EOF
echo `date`
echo
echo 'End of archive cleanup on STANDBY'
mailx -s ${MAILHEADER} $MAILTO < /tmp/rmandbarchstandby.out
# End of ScriptThis uses ( calls an ENV) so the crontab has an environment.
Example ( STANDBY.env )
ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
ULIMIT=unlimited
ORACLE_SID=STANDBY
ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0.2
ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
LIBPATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib
TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_BASE/dba_tool/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:$HOME/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin:/usr/lbin:/GNU/bin/make:/u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/bin:/home/oracle/utils/SCRIPTS:/usr/local/bin:.
#export TERM=linux=80x25 wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
export TERM=vt100
export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_SID ORACLE_TERM ULIMIT
export ORACLE_HOME
export LIBPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH ORA_NLS33
export TNS_ADMIN
export PATH
export MAILTO=?? your email hereNote use the env command in Unix to get you settings.
There are probably ten other/better ways to do this, but this works.
other options ( you decide )
Configure RMAN to purge archivelogs after applied on standby [ID 728053.1]
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/rman-dataguard-10g-wp-1-129486.pdf
Maintenance Of Archivelogs On Standby Databases [ID 464668.1]
Tip I don't care myself but in some of the other forums people seem to mind if you use all caps in the subject. They say it shouting. My take is if somebody is shouting at me I'm probably going to just move away.

In trying to edit a track - I want to "Delete and Move" the track to automatically fill the area that I deleted - However, after selecting a section to delete - the "Delete and Move" option is grayed out. How do I fix this?

Thank you for your attempt to help me. I appreciate that.
I think I figured out how to fix it-
I found that if I only delete a small amount at the beginning and at the end of the section that I want to remove - and then highlight that section - Then (and only then) does the "Delete and Move" function work to remove the unwanted section and automatically close the gap between the surrounding sections. I was trying to select a whole section and could only delete it - and then manually move it.
Problem solved.

• I can't get the gap tool to work right

Hi,
I just bought InDesign which I'm attempting to use to create a book with 500+ pics. A big selling point was the new gap tool which was supposed to make the interface significantly more practical for working with lots of images. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work right. It looks to me like a bug in the gap detection algorithm.
What's supposed to happen according to the video tutorials is that when you position the cursor between frames, the space between them changes to a brown color and the cursor changes. This allows you to click and drag to change the gap. In my documents, when I try this, it rarely detects the gap between frames. So the cursor remains a circle with a slash through it. If I keep moving the cursor around the frame edges for 30 secs or more, it sometimes briefly detects the gap and indeed allows dragging. It's very frustrating and time consuming because if the cursor is moved just a pixel or two, it loses the gap and the cursor reverts to the circle/slash before I have a chance to click/drag the gap.
I've tried using different kinds of objects, different frame thicknesses, colors, different spacings between frames...all sorts of things. It seems a little harder for it to find vertical gaps than horizontal gaps. Anyway, does anyone know if this is a known bug?
I'm running XP Pro SP3 on a 3.4 GHz P4, 4GB, Intel chipset. Just ran the latest Adobe update to ID CS5 7.0.3.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Update:
Thanks for the tips, folks. I think I solved the problem, or at least came up with a work-around. I manually rebuilt the preferences as folks suggested. This did not fix the gap problem at all, for my existing document. But interestingly, it seemed to fix it for any new photos/frames I added.
After several more hours of troubleshooting, I traced the problem to some graphics on my master page. My master page has a rectangular border running around the page, composed of four lines, intersecting at the ends. Most of my photo frames touch at least part of this border. It seems that this structure was interfering with ID's gap detection algorithm, causing it to get flakey and intermittently miss gaps. After trying many things I was able to get the gap tool working reasonably reliably by moving the ends of the lines so that they no long touch each other. Now the border rectangle is four lines which don't form a seamless shape. This allows it to work around 95% of the time. Of course, deleting this border fixes it 100% but I need that border (it's on a non-printing layer but I still need it for guide purposes). This fix works even with my old preferences restored.
So the lesson is, if you want to use the gap tool on frames, make sure they're not near or touching other graphics like lines or rectangles or the gap tool will act flakey. As a footnote, fixing this did not solve my other problems like Auto-fit, Alt-drag not copying single pages and the duplicated pages being shifted left and right. One down, three to go. Thanks again, folks.

• Produce a range of numbers with select from the gaps of ID column

(1)
Suppose I have a table t which has rows like this:
A B
2 4
6 7
I would like to use select to produce rows with numbers ranging between A column and B column inclusive
for each row, like this:
select ... from t ...
2
3
4
6
7
(2)
Suppose I have ID column which has gaps, I would like to get lowest <N> available numbers between the gaps.
I did research, and I can find the range of the gaps, but I cannot have the numbers listed individually, that is why
I ask question (1). But is there a direct way to get the list instead of going through ranges and the list.
For example, I have ID column which has
2
5
6
7
9
2000000
I would like to get a select query that produces
select ...
3
4
8
10
11
I have a way to get a list from 2 to 2000000 and then minus what we have to get all the
gap numbers, but that is not efficient and could runs out of memory.
PS: Before I post to this group, I did research already on "connect by", with recursive queries.

First of all, I would like to thank jeneesh and Frank for helpful and correct reply. However, due to the a bug of this forum,
when I mark jeneesh's reply as correct, I cannot mark Frank's reply as correct anymore. Therefore I would like to formally
state here that I have tested both solutions and they are both correct. jeneesh and Frank use different approach, connect by
and less join ( <=, I do not know what is the proper name for it ).
Secondly I would like to report my small findings: use connect by, you control the level from 1 to the max number, so you
do not need to use order by, and the performance is better (0.37 seconds version 0.92 seconds). And also it performs better
if I use an intermediate view to limit the result sets. One line of code is worth one thousand words, now I am posting two
versions of the code and highlighted the points I mentioned here.
I am sorry that either I do not know how to format the code or I do not have the capability when posting on this forum.
The code listing does not look good, but I hope you get the idea. I have "plain text" and I am not if I can use fixed width font
and preserve space. After I used the spelling checker, it becomes double spaced and I have to manually delete the blank lines.
/* I learned about { code } after the post and edited the original post */
Thanks again to both jeneesh and Frank.

• TWO clips snap together after deleting the one between them without command

Hi,
Someone at an Apple store workshop asked today about a gap in a timeline which one usually closes by clicking "close gap", but in this case, the gap is closing immediately after the deletion without a command being entered. Does anyone know if this is a pref or a glitch? We tried (the Apple dudes and I) to find it but couldn't.
Thanks.
Mike

If you use the small Delete key (forward delete above the arrow keys), it will perform a ripple delete, closing the gap as long as no other clips interfere with that operation.
If you use the large delete key (backspace delete, located above the backslash key)), it will perform a lift delete without closing the gap.

• Can anyone help me about deleting the repeats by java??

My subject is to write a static method called deleteRepeats that has a partially filled array of characters as formal parameter and deletes all repeated letters from the array.And when a letter is deleted, the remaining letters are moved one position to fill in the gap.This second formal parameter cannot be changed by a Java method, so have the method return the new value for this parameter. For example;
char a[10];
a[0] = 'a';
a[1] = 'b';
a[2] = 'a';
a[3] = 'c';
int size = 4;
size = deleteRepeats(a, size);
After this code is executed, the value of a[0] is 'a', the value of a[1] is 'b', the value of a[2] is 'c', and the value of size is 3
So I did it like.Is it true?
public class deleteRepeats{
public static int deleteRepeats(char[] a, int size) {
size=a.length;

• Delete the last two seconds of every track on a CD.... Can i automate?

Hi, I have a larger number of lectures on CD I would like to turn into Audiobooks. My problem consists of a 2 second gap (exact) at the end of each "track" (~ 10 tracks per CD -- each CD ~ 1 hr) even when I play it on my stereo. When watching the timescale after importing a CD "unjoined" I hear the stop of the person's speech (sometime in mid-sentence) with 2 seconds to go before the end of every track. I've even imported the CDs as WAV files, opened them in Audacity, and noticed a "flat line" at the end of every file.
(Just trying to convey that each track actually has a 2 sec portion of silence inserted at its end, and after importing them 10+ different ways (both "joined" and "unjoined" in itunes) I can't seem to get rid of it.)
I know I could open every file in Audacity, delete the last two seconds, and then copy/paste all the tracks together and export... but I have around 500 tracks total so I was wondering if someone knew how I could automate the process. I have QuickTime Pro, Garage Band 4, Audacity, and/or Automator at my disposal so if anyone has some advice/experience I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Have you tried simply changing your burn settings? Go to your iTunes prefs > Advanced > Burning > and set "gap between songs" to none.

• Does not delete & close gap in Premiere elements 10

Hi I have made a video in Premiere elements 10 and now I want to remove or trim some clips in the middle of the video but it leaves a gap. If I select the gap and right click "Delete and close gap" nothing happens. How can I trim it without leaving a gap?
Thanks!

With the Audio Clip, how would you like PrE to handle that?
Would you like for the program to Cut the Audio too, and Delete that portion, or do you wish for the Audio Clip to not be affected?
If the latter, then I would Delete the Audio Clip from the Timeline, edit the Video, then drag that Audio Clip back to the Timeline.
As I do not do "music videos," I only do edits to the Audio portion of my Timeline, until after the Video has been edited.
Now, if you wish to keep the Audio Clip, as it is, then try this. You can Delete but NOT close gap, as that will not work. Just Delete that part of the Video. Then, Select (drag the cursor around the remaining Video Clips, past the gap, and with Snap ON, just move all of the Video Clips to the left. Do NOT "bang" the Video Clips against the preceding Video Clips, or "shearing" can happen, and you do not want that.
Good luck,

• Delete the space between multiple clips, at once, on the timeline?

Is there a way to delete the space between multiple clips on the timeline with one click?
I trim clips on the timeline, so I can have a couple hundred clips with space between on the timeline. Is there a way to delete all the spaces between the clips at once?
Right now I have to ripple delete the space between each clip, big hassle and a lot of key strokes. Is there a better faster way to trim clips in general? Or delete the spaces on the timeline?

I have not used the source monitor much. Can I use the sourse monitor to make a lot of cuts "clips" out of one big clip? Say I want to take the highlights out of a long wedding ceremony? Or do I need to do this one the timeline. Edit clips on the timeline is very intuitive to me and I can do it fast, except for all the spaces betweent the clips.
Absolutely ( and I wouldnt do it any other way because it is designed for ease and speed)
Try it:
1.Target a Video and Audio track in the timeline
2. Place the long source file in the Source monitor.
3. Locate the first highlight and Set In and Out Points ( KBD Shortcut "I' and "O")
4.Then Insert it to the timeline ( KBD "," )
Note: there are a number of ways of sending the selection to the timeline (eg.Insert / Overlay buttons, drag it to the Program Monitor, drag direct to the timeline). You can also take video only, audio only, both. Darg options have modifier keys for insert / overlay ripple-ing
Back to the source monitor (step 2) and mark next highlight selection....repeat steps...etc.....
Ensure your CTI (playhead) is always at the end of the last clip in the timeline. KBD short cut "End" and you will have no gaps to deal with.

• CS6: divide a clip and deleting the first piece at once?

Hi,
to delete some seconds within one clip I make two cuts and delete the first piece of clip together with closing the gap.
Is there a possibility to combine these steps eg by holding a key combination?
Thanks, mtemp

... sorry, new answer ...
Shift+Delete or Alt+Delete
But watch this screen recording: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo5IO7aD-sg
after trimming the clip from the beginning (okay, instead of ripple trim) I am deleting two parts of the clip, each time by cuting the clip 2x and deleting the middle piece.
It would be cool to make only one cut (the second one) together with deleting the part before.
... because I have to do this very often

• How to delete the members in one dimension use the maxl script

i have question that i want to delete the members in one dimension useing the maxl script, but i do not know how to do it. can the maxl delete the members in one dimension? if can, please provide an sample script, thank you so mcuh.

MaxL does not have commands to alter an outline directly, except the reset command which can delete all dimensions but not members selectively. The best you could do would be to run a rules file (import dimensions) using a file that contains the members you want to keepload rule for the dimension. As typical the warning is to test this first before you do it on a production database

No don't restore your iphone. I've done that several times & it has never worked. -I still have deleted contacts in my iphone texts. *However if you do restore it you will not lose all your data, pics, text messages etc if you backup in iCloud. It restores back to original phone. Very nice :). Anyhowwww....
I JUST figured it out!! :))). Remove the contact from recents.
Start a text. You should see the deleted contact. All the way to the right of the name is a symbol. The symbol is a circle with "i" in the middle. Click that symbol then in red lettering click "remove from recents".
