Deleting Transitions in a Multiclip

In a multiclip how I do I delete transitions so I can choose new ones?

You need to load the Multiclip button bars...not at my system, but they're in one of the last drop downs of the main menu.
These will help.
RE: your current situation...have you not been able to use command-z to undo any of this work? What are your preferences set for number of undo's?
The fact that you're cutting a multiclip shows you're functional, but you might want to go back over the multiclip section of the manual for a better grasp of it's features/processes.
As I posted earlier, I'll usually only let a couple of 'cuts' happen, then stop the multiclip, so I can 'undo' any cuts I don't like, or make switches or add different shots...etc.
I guess i'm not sure the proper term, but i'm switching between my three camera angles in the viewer<</div>
BTW...you're actually 'cutting', not switching. Switching allows you to run the mclip and make shot selections live, without the 'cuts' happening for real. Again, read up in the manual for optimal workflow(s).

  • Cannot Delete Transitions

I've just opened up a project that I haven't worked on for a while, and for some reason I'm unable to delete transitions, or anything for that matter. In addition, when I click on the "Photos" tab, it says that I need to open iTunes 3 or later to populate the list. I have no idea what is going on, but can anyone offer some advice? Thanks.

I tried all of the suggestions in those documents, but unfortunately nothing works. What's weird is that when I click on Photos, it asks me to open iTunes 3 or later, instead of iPhoto. Secondly, when I click on Audio, it populates the iTunes list just fine.
In addition, I tried opening another project to see if the same problems persisted. I was able to delete transitions and photos on this other project, but the same problem with the photos occurred.
Anyone have any advice?? Thanks in advance!!!!

  • Deleting Transitions without offsetting video clips

I just loaded up Final Cut Studio and in the older versions there is a way to delete transitions between clips without having the video clips shift to the left. How is this accomplished in the new program.
I working with a series of video clips put down to music. That is why I need the video clips to stay on there origanal spots
    Thanks

As I read your post I wonder if you are working under a misunderstanding of how transitions work and are displayed. What was said above is true if you are removing a clip. Things do not move when removing a transition - this is why.
If you have two clips next to each other on the same video track and drop in a transition, the clips do not change position or timing. Lets say in this example the transition is centered, that is, the transition is using equal length handles from each clip. The transition is drawn showing the area or length of time that the overlap occurs using the handles available. At the center of length of the transition is the cut line even though you can not see it now.
When the transition is removed, It VISUALLY looks like the the the clip end point (the end of the clip in the timeline) moves, however, the cut remains where it has been the whole time.
If this isn't what you're asking - sorry for my misunderstanding.
    good luck.

  • Can't delete transition

I have many projects that I have saved and when I select a transition, I can not drag the transition to the trash. It makes no difference whether I am in timeline or clip view, same problem. I can edit the transition by changing the length and updating but I can't get rid of it. For example, I somehow made two fade outs after one clip. Now I am stuck with them. Even if I select one transition and press delete or command-delete, I just get an error beep. What is the secret to making iMovie release a transition and let me be in control again?

Thank you adamb529 for your very good guess. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't help. I checked the permissions and I am the owner with read and write permissions for the project. Anyone else have a guess? By the way, I found out I could delete the clip that was connected to the transition, add the exact same clip again, add the same type of transition again and it was fine. I just think I will run into this issue again some day and need a better solution than simple "start over".

  • Problems with deleting Transitions

For some off reason, when I try and delete some dissolves they don't delete. It's almost as if the transition is part of the timeline. Even after I delete the clip and scrub the timeline, the transition effect is still there!
Anyone have a fix for this.Or a reason this is happening?

....but why would you want a blank space of nothing in your movie?
A blank space can be pretty useful.
    1. To create a temporary placeholder.
    2. To create a clip with a colored background. Creating a blank space — actually called a Black clip — is the first step towards creating a green clip, a pink clip, or whatever color you want.
Let's say you want to make a gold title over a green background.
    • Set the timeline to Timeline view (not Clips view).
    • Drag a clip right to create a Black clip.
    • Switch the timeline to Clips view. the Black clip will appear.
    • Double-click on the Black clip to open the Clip Info window.
    • Click on the color box and change its color to green.
    • Add the title.

  • Premiere 9 unable to edit replace or delete transitions

    Hi
    Really struggling with this:-
I have created a slideshow in Elements 9 containing stills and clips which I need to edit further in Pre. 9 to include scene markers and edit some of the clips. I right click the slideshow and select "edit in Pre. Elements" and then from the timeline again right click and select "break apart elements organiser slideshow" so far all ok. Unfotunately in the transfer it appears that transitions have been added where there arn't any in the original or have replaced a link between an additional pan/zoom on a still.  I have not been able to clear/delete or edit any of the transitions. The transitions look like they have been deleted or changed on the sceneline but when previewed the old ones are still there. I have also noted that some of the transitions are not compatible e.g. Gradient Wipe has a different effect in Elements that it does in Pre. Please help I really need to get rid of these unwanted transitions!!!
    Keith

Thanks for the advice, that looks to be the only way round it as I have
not found any of the transitions from Organizer Create Slideshow,
including "None" that PRE can change/remove etc. As far as I can tell
whatever options I select in the Create Slideshow (transition type and
duration and slide duration) seem to be set in concrete as far as PRE is
    concerned.
What was really bugging me though was that PRE was inserting an unwanted
transition between linked slides, i.e. where an additional Pan&Zoom is
added to a still (which BTW is a super effect great for highlighting
multiple details on a photo). If I select all transitions in Organizer
Create Slideshow and change it no problem here, the links are left
alone, however PRE will apply that transition to the link i.e overwrite
it.  Workaround is to add any additional Pan/Zooms only AFTER setting a
    default transition.

  • Ripple delete, transitions collide

When I ripple delete why do the 'cross-fade' transitions of the bordering clips collide rather than becoming on nice transition? Can I change that setting?
    Thanks.

Thanks much. One thing though is when I join clips this way, it seems like the cross-dissolve I apply between the clips does not apply to the audio. Ideas?

  • Transition deletion problems

In completed iMovie I cannot delete transitions without it creating a short duplicate clip of the same photo - is it something to do with getting into edit mode - it was working fine before creating a quiktime movie for export. Now having problems in the original iMovie timeline. Anyone have this problem?

    Welcome to the forum, Ossie!
Most — all? —transitions are built by borrowing
frames from their adjoining clips. Later, if you
remove a transition, iMovie returns those borrowed
    frames to the project.
That can cause the source clip(s) to be restored to
their original length. Or, I suppose, a "new" clip
might appear which contains the borrowed frames.
(Exactly what happens may depend on the editing
you've done after adding the transition.)
If this sounds like it, that's normal.
I doubt, by the way, that exporting to a QuickTime
movie would damage the project in any way. That's
probably not affecting the behavior you see.
If this doesn't sound right, say more about the type
of transition it is. Test adding it, then removing it
    to see how everything behaves.
    Karl
Thanks Karl, The program seems to have locked up and I cannot change anything! Cannot add titles or delete dissolves or pictures. Even after saving the program to a new title and rebooting, I have the same problem?????

  • Transitions -- Cross Dissolve: FLASH FRAME

When I insert a Cross Dissolve, 15-20% of the time there is one frame black at the end, ruining the transition. (Black flash frame).
Tried deleting transition, reapplying - no luck.
How can I be rid of this?

This is a total shot into the blue, so please be patient...
Have you looked at what all those clips that exhibit this problem may have in common? Perhaps all of them have an odd number of frames? If so, you may be onto a way to work around the problem.
If it's just the last frame, you may try to simply 'split at playhead' at the final transition frame, and delete the last frame, not the whole transition.
I know that this is annoying at best, but maybe woth a shot.
    Hope this helps,

  • Transitions broken in iMovie6

I can't add any transitions. I get a message saying "You cannot apply a transition between two very short clips. They must each be at least 3:49:16 long." Of course, that is ridiculous - that means they have to be almost 4 MINUTES long in order to have a transition.
In fact, my clips are each over a minute long, and I have never had a problem adding cross dissolves in the past.
There was a similar post that is now listed as solved, but of course it isn't solved- I don't need to add more footage for a two second transition to 60+ second clips.

I'm having the same problem. I like to add transitions between slides with viewing lengths of approximately 5 seconds one each side of a transition. iLife5 made that possible. Now, as I add new photos within existing sequences I am forced to delete transitions and cannot add new without setting the viewing length to absurd lengths of time. I certainly hope they find a fix for it.

  • How to make Premier Elements 8 work...

As many may have figured out by now, Premier Elements 8 is not exactly pristene...  Hopefully Adobe will get us all a working version in the next few months.  In the meantime here are a couple of tips:
First if you're using a 64bit Operating System, Premier Elements 8 does not support it and may not work properly no matter what you do    However, if you are using Windows 7 Professional 64bit or Ultimate 64bit you're in luck... you can set up Premier Elements 8 to run in Windows XP mode which runs under a 32bit virtual machine.  If you're using Vista or XP 64bit you're pretty much stuck with what you've got...
Now for everyone using a 32bit Operating System (including those using Windows XP mode inside Windows 7), here's the best way to get a working Premier Elements 8 working... bypass the welcome screen / organizer.   Now the file names may be different depending on when you got your version of PrE8, and the locations may be different depending on which OS you're using.  These instructions are for Windows XP 32bit versions:
1> delete your desktop shortcut for Premier Elements 8
2> use "my computer" and navigate to the folder  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements 8.0
3> find the two application files that begin "Adobe Premiere Elements".   The one that ends in 8.0 opens the welcome screen / organizer which you do not want to use, right click the one that does not end in 8.0 and select "Send to Desktop"
4> now sitback & enjoy using your crash free version of Premier Elements 8.0 *
    * Okay, that won't fix EVERYTHING, but it has fixed 95% of my crashes and has helped several others.
Also, if you find PrE8 taking excessively long amounts of time to complete certain tasks including saving your work, adding or deleting effects/annotations/transitions, etc... dissable "background rendering" by going to Edit Menu > Preferences > General & uncheck the box marked "enable background rendering", you may also want to go to the "Auto Save" portion of the preferences & change your auto save settings, I have mine set to save every 5 minutes, though for the average user 10 minutes is probably plenty unless you continue to have problems despite the steps above.
Oh & for those also using Photoshop Elements 8.0 the same bypass can lead to happier photoshopping   but with PhotoshopElementsEditor as the file you want to create a desktop shortcut for...

I'd like to blame your failure on Vista... as I recall, you're running Vista 32bit... but since my only experiences with Vista are from fixing other peoples computers that have Vista installed... I'll refrain for now
The delays in actions (deleting transitions, etc...) could be from background rendering hogging resources... It does the same thing on my pathetic old PC, which is why I mentioned it as well in my OP.
But beyond that, I'm not going to be much help for a Vista user cause I have no real-world experience with that plague...

  • Multi-clip Question

I'm using Multi-clip in FCP 7 to edit a two cam shoot. I've noticed that after rendering a Multi-clip video track, the independent camera views no longer show in the Viewer. They show when playback is stopped but when playback starts, the Viewer appears just as the Canvas appears and the two run in sync. There is no way to, that I know of, to get back the independent camera displays in the Viewer.
Is there a way to get the Viewer to show the multi-cam displays in the Viewer after a Multi-clip video track is rendered in the timeline?

    Delete your renders.
Multiclip timelines should NEVER be rendered. For a good explanation why, read through the section on multiclip editing in the manual.

  • UTILIZING iMovie's non-destructive feature

K, I've seen dozons of post regarding the dislikes and work arounds for iMovie's non-destructive default functionality. However, the true purpose of this feature im yet to take advantage of, and would like to do so if possible.
New to iMovie, just started using it last month. Dig it. I've popped in some sound trax and am now editing the timing of the clips to the music. What Im finding is that I'm left with small gaps of dead space in the timeline pane where I'd like to 'extend' or add the rest of the clip to soak up that .24 sec. (or whatever) between the two clips. Can the non-destructive element 'add' in this missing time from the native clip?
Timing would'nt have been much of an issue if I didn't have to delete transitions constantly to splice in clips n' pic's, which consequently shifted the timing a bit. Now that the montage is done, and the clips are timed to the music, I gotta fix them gaps!
Any help, much appreciated. Thanks all.

pixel punk, the non-destructive editing feature of iMovie isn't really intended to help you 'add' stuff to fill gaps. But it DOES let you re-lengthen a clip that's been shortened. That may be all you need.
Basically, it lets you restore a clip to it's original length (or something less) if you've shortened a clip. So if you change your mind after shortening a clip — even after emptying the iMovie Trash — you can restore the clip to (up to) its original length.
That means that Yes, if you have shortened a clip on either side of a gap you can use Direct Trimming to lengthen the clip to fill the gap. The non-destructive editing feature guarantees that the "stuff" removed from the clip is still there in the clip. You can re-lengthen the clip to get it back.
If the clip hasn't been shortened, then you must fill the gap some other way. If the gap is small, one way is to fill it with a picture of the last frame seen before the gap. Don't use iMovie's Create Still Frame command to fill the gap for the image quality is poor. Rather, use the Save Frame command, save the frame as a PICT, then re-import the PICT back into the project. Use Direct Trimming, if necessary, to shorten the PICT clip to fill the gap.
The gap will look good. If the view notices anything, he will assume the videographer simply paused.

  • IMovie HD crashing problem

I got iLife 08 on my new mac but as I wanted to continue using iMovie HD I downloaded the free version available on the Apple site. The program is very unstable and crashes frequently, especially when trying to drag/amend clip lengths in the timeline, or adjust/delete transitions.
I tried a fresh download of iMovie HD and have even completely totally reloaded the machine's OS (on advice of Apple help desk) but still have the same problem. Any advice anybody? Thanks.

    Hi many thanks !!!
I found now that Czech Apple has also localized iMovie6 HD, I'm sure that this will solve the problem and will be installable.
Seams is better to check local pages rather then seek in US pages anyway it would be nice if Apple will not ignore localized versions of software a let users know also through official pages.
So if somebody else has this kind of problem localized version of iMovieHD 6 is available here:
    http://apple.lokalizace.com/downloads/cs_iMovieHD6.dmg
This link contains all other localized software:

    Thank you again!!!

  • DVD Studio Project too big for DVD

Well, I've exported my video and audio out of FCP through compressor and got into DVD Studio.
The movie I'm making is a compiliation of the years 1991-2007 (family film), thou there were no film from some years. So I made a main meny with the buttons "Play Movie" and "Chapters", the "chapters"-button opens an other meny with buttons for all the years. The year-buttons is linked to the different chapters. ie. 1991 is chapter 1 and 1992 is chapter 2 etc.
So there are two menues, the main and the chapter. There is also a "return-to-main-meny"-button in the chapters meny. There are about 15 buttons total and I used the apple simple button for all of them. Then there are some backgound images and of course there is the video and the audio track.
The size of the video is 4,4Gb and the audio is 190Mb, so without the menues they fit on a DVD (4,7Gb) but the menues seems to take up too much space.
How can I make all of it fit to the DVD?

You can build the project and use VTS view to see how much they are taking but if you are applying transitions they can take up room since the transition is being built for each button. So in other words lets say you have picture 1 as a background on menu 1 and picture 2 as background on menu 2 with 15 buttons on the menus, 15 seperate transitions are being made even if each transition is identical.
In other words if you are using 15 transitions on each menu back and forth (or even less) you can go over the 20 Megs rights there (and if they are longer transitions in terms of time that will add more size.)
You can get around this by using dvdafteredit or other editor but not in DVD SP itself
You are pretty close even without the menus, so it can be pushing you over. Anyway what was the AC3 rate? Could get you under there also (and maybe deleting transitions in menus can also help.)
Also keep in mind that filling a disc fully (or very close) can cause issues.
So (depending on how you want to go)
1.) Delete transitions if you do not need/want them
2.) See if there is any room to knock down the audio at all
3.) Encode the video at a lower rate. (If you go this route I would suggest not trying to thread the needle too closely - meaning if the average rate was 5, let's say, in the original code, do not drop it to 4.9 or something, bring it down so you know you have some room, perhaps 4.75 for example, so you do not have to go back through the process.)
What was the total running time of the video? Check this out for calculations http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm, then bring it down a tad to be safe.
