Deleting unused video tracks

I inherited a FCP project from another editor. This one sequence has six video tracks, but there are a couple video tracks that only have one or two clips in them. Is there any benefit to moving those clips down to more populated tracks and deleting the empty tracks?
I'm not clear on the rendering pipeline of FCP and if there'd be any playback or rendering performance boost.

If there are performance issues, they're negligible. The real thing here is sloppiness. Sometimes in the heat of battle one creates extra tracks to park stuff on, sometimes they get left there for no good reason. I always park my timeline on the other monitor, with the browser so that I can expand it vertically and see all the tracks because a lot of my work has a lot of video and audio tracks. Every now and again I'll collapse as much as I can.

  • How can I delete the video tracks from an iDVD project?

I try to use "canc" botton: the video track is deleted on menu, but when I try to insert a new video, iDVD (7.1.2) alert me:  "The maximum number of tracks (presentations and movies) is 99. You can not create other tracks."
Then, how can I delete the video tracks (or presentations) really?
    Help me, please!

    Hi
What is Your original material ?
Did You create Your movie in iMovie/FinalCut ?
iDVD is limited to 99 Chapters (in a movie) or 99 Photos in a SlideShow.

  • Deleteing Unused video files

In Premiere Elements 9, I can delete unused clips displayed in the Organizer, but when I delete the original video file, Premiere 9 still asks for the unused file when loading a project. How do I tell Premiere 9 the file is no longer needed and to remove it from the list of needed video files?

Get into the project.prel with the missing media by clicking Skip All on the Missing Media messages that you encounter trying to open the project.
Then delete all instances for the missing file or files in all of the following locations:
    a. Timeline
    b. Organize Header Media Tab in row below the Organize
    c. Organize Header, Project Tab in row below the Organize Header
The files that you seek should have the characteristic red green arrows which form a circle look.

  • Create a sequence with no video tracks?

How can I create an audio-only sequence? That is, how do I create a sequence that, when I drag it to the timeline, does NOT include a video track? I can always just delete the video track after inserting it, but I figure there's just an easier way to do it that I'm missing.
    Thanks in advance!

To the left of the Video tracks are jig saw looking icons. Click on one and it breaks apart. In this state no video will be added too that Video track. Unpatch V1 and V2.

  • POLL: does TRACKS DELETE UNUSED work for you?

I'd like to find out how many other people experience this behavior:
    a) if my arrangement contains empty and/or duplicate tracks, sometimes using the Tracks > Delete Unused function won't delete any of them. Or, it will delete of the empty and unused/duplicate but not all of them.
    b) if the arrangement contains tracks assigned to "no output", Tracks > Delete Unused can't be used to delete them.

StaSh, thanks for your reply. There are some things I don't understand here. If you could clarify it would be great!
the future only works on things that are in the
project but not not on the arrange window
I'm talking about the function that's under "Track" in the arrange window -- "delete unused", for deleting empty tracks in the arrange window. What feature are you referring to? Not familiar with this...
so even without output set on the channel its
considered as a used file in the arrange window
    Not sure what you mean
    1) if you you record a midi region then decided to
delete it, that track is stored in the trash but not
    off the drive
Right. But if deleting the region results in an empty track, that track should be delete-able from the arrange window using this command I'm talking about. I'm not concerned about recovering the region -- I just want the track to go bye-bye.
    2) if you record an audio region and you decide to
delete but keep in the project, it'll be deleted off
the arrange but still be kept in the audio window
Correct. I know this behavior, but it's not the same thing I'm talking about.
    3) if you create channels then also decide to delete
but keep in the project, it'll be deleted off the
arrange but still be kept in the trash
You mean audio channels? I don't think that audio objects (or really, anything other than tracks and notes) are ever moved to the trash, and AFAIK you can't access an "environment" of the trash. Can you confirm?

  • Behavior of "Delete Unused Tracks"

    *DELETE UNUSED TRACKS*
    A. When invoking a key command for the "Delete Unused Tracks" function, as in L7, it takes multiple key presses to cause all unused tracks to be removed from the arrangement. (This behavior applies when deleting tracks that never contained any automation data). +Not a terrible problem, still somewhat annoying.+
    B. If automation is written to a track but that track ends up being unused (contains no regions), Logic doesn't recognize this track as an unused track and thus cannot be deleted using the Delete Unused Tracks function. +Understandable operation.+ However...
    C. If automation is written to an unused track, but then all automation (and any existing regions) are erased from that track, Logic doesn't recognize this as an unused track and thus it cannot be deleted using the Delete Unused Tracks function. +I find this behavior problematic.+
Furthermore, this behavior remains even if the associated audio object is deleted from the Environment; in this case the resultant track, now assigned "No Output", cannot be deleted with the Delete Unused Tracks function.
    Comments?

This has been going on a for a while in my experience. The behaviors you mention were happening for me in Logic 6 & 7 as well. It is weird, but I must admit, I kinda got used to it... As you said, invoking the commands multiple times eventually achieves the result... Kinda strange, as it makes you think a bit about what 'might' be contained within the track data.

  • Why can't I delete this video file from my trash can?

I have a video file that I will not disappear from my trash can when I click the "empty track" button. I managed to move the folder containing the video file from documents to the trash after a lot of effort, but it kept telling me that I didn't have the privileges necessary to delete the video permanently. Now the video file is sitting inside a folder inside the trash can where I can't move anywhere else. If I try to move it anywhere else, it simply copys to that folder but stays inside the original stays in the trash can as well, but I can still delete the copy and the original stays sitting in the trash can. Can anyone help me so I can get rid of this file once and for all.

ho yeah .. i know that, but i tried even in a low quality and it's not worked.
Maybe it's related to the TimeQuick?

  • How to delete multiple music tracks

how to delete multiple music tracks?

I think rendering the audio has to do with the way I import to FCE. This is how I bring video into FCE because it seems to be the only way I can get it to work. I run my video camera through a digital coverter which runs a firewire into my Mac. I then import the video into imovie. After that is done, I do a drag and drop of the imovie into FCE. I have to render the audio because it just beeps if I don't when I play it back in FCE. I tried using the video capture in FCE but it keeps telling me it is unable to capture (my gues is the cameras are too old and the digital converter in not compatable with FCE or Mac). So once the video and audio footage is in FCE, if I click the green button on the left hand side, my rendered audio becomes a red line. However, I can click the same button on the upper video portion, and it drops the video out so I can see video clips on the lower levels and not just the first one on top. So that's why I render the audio. I can see all twelve audio tracks already. Tom- would making the change you suggest still help? Great book by the way also.

  • HOW TO Delete Unused Media from FINAL CUT PRO

*HOW TO DELETE UNUSED MEDIA FROM HARD DRIVE IN FINAL CUT PRO.* Keywords: disk disc drive space remove compressor
    SUMMARY:
Say your original clip is 10 gigs, you can use only what you need and delete the rest from your hard drive. I know people on the forums say to just buy another hard drive, NO! It took 2 days to figure out but here it is!!! Email me if needed at [email protected]
    QUESTION:
I captured 1 hour of video at a time and now want to delete from my hard drive all the parts I don’t want to use. I have 300GB of junk on my hard drive and I only want to use a few scenes using a few megabytes, so that I'll get most of my 300GB back!!!!
    ANSWER:
In final cut on Mac, click on one small clip (to get familiar with process), go to “file”, “export”, then “using compressor”. This will open compressor software. Your file will open in the left top window. Then you need to batch the job or jobs. IMPORTANT: I’ve also solved the Compressor problem when you press “submit” to a batch and it states “Cluster: None”. Search forum for “In compressor you experience what I have”.

Part of the problem could lie in the fact it's an imovie project coming into FCP, wouldn't rule that out. Second my be the terms you use and what you expect to happen. For example, a subclip is just a smaller clip subbed from a larger clip. It has nothing to do with media management. But you can media manage a subclip and delete the unused media.
Try this (be sure to back up the original clip first). take a long clip into the viewer, make an IN and OUT duration of like 30 frames and then subclip that, Modify > Make Subclip. a new subclip will appear in the browser with a torn clip icon and the name Subclip. Right click on the subclip and choose Media Manager.... Check the Delete unused media from duplicated clip. As you toggle that the green Modified bar at the top change from the full clip size to a tiny modified size. If it does not then one of two things ... user error or the system is screwed up. That's the easiest way to test media manager.

  • Is there a way to see the waveform of the audio in the primary video track?

Is there a way to see the audio waveform of the audio in the video (primary) track?
Scrubbing to determine precise edit points is useful, but seeing the dialog audio waveform would be much better.
You can see the audio waveform in additional audio-only tracks, but for cutting to dialog you really need to see the primary audio waveform that's in the video track.
    Any thoughts?

    msimpson,
No. The waveforms are only visible in the two separate audio tracks.
A work around would be to use Advanced>Extract Audio command.
This command, in spite of its name, copies the audio to one of the audio tracks and sets the volume level of the audio to zero in the video track.
Now you'll have the waveform to use in editing. When you're done with it, you could delete it and raise the volume again on the video track.

  • Deleting unused media in Media Manager not working

This is one of those cases where I get really frustrated with Apple...
I've captured some footage from VHS using 'capture now', and the media that was created has a bunch of blank frames at the beginning and end. I'd like to remove the excess media from the clip to save space.
I'm following the directions EXACTLY as shown in the section "Creating Independent Media Files From Subclips After Capturing" from the Final Cut Pro User Manual on page 377 selecting subclips I want to keep and using Media Manager to delete unused media, but my media hasn't gotten any smaller, and the blank frames in the original media are still there if I reconnect it.
Furthermore, I've tried using media manager to copy the referenced media (from a subclip) to a new clip, and it just copies the whole file.
How can I get rid of this excess waste of space!!?

Well, does this footage have timecode? A REEL number? If you captured as NON-CONTROLLED device the footage might not have timecode, and without timecode the Media Manager cannot track exactly what you want to remove...what footage you want set aside and copied as the rest is deleted. This is also the case if you don't have a reel number. You might have 5 clips all with the same starting timecode but no reel number.

trying to sync the audio and video but the tracks do not show anything. i;'ve had this problem before months ago and i started a new session and the problem was resolved. not this time. i started a whole new session and it did the same thing. i can't see the video tracks in time line...i've messed with the stuff to the left and nothing works. where it says "shows how video will be displayed".... doesn't work. how do i get my tracks back visually?

Please remind me, in your present project, are you ripping VOBs from a DVD-VIDEO format on a DVD disc? If so, how are you doing that? If not, what are the properties of the source media that you are importing into this project?
And, could you also verify the situation so that I am not taking anything for granted....
In spite of the fact that you cannot see your video at the Timeline level, can you still see it in the Edit Mode monitor when you move the mouse cursor from left to right across the Timeline?
If this issue is just confined to the Timeline displays, could you post a screenshot of what you are looking at when this situation exists?
At any time have you tried deleting the Premiere Elements 10 settings file? I had a problem with Premiere Elements 12 yesterday. When I went to preview a disc menu in the Preview of the disc menu area, there was no main menu page displayed in the project. I tried in a new project and got the same. Deleting the Premiere Elements 12 settings file resolved the issue. The settings file deletion continues to be one of the best tools for getting at issues that defy resolution by other means.

At this point, I am not sure if the issue is related to a matter that is not revealing itself in the questions and answers. That is one reason a screenshot might help to pick up on a detail that is being missed.

  • Deleting unused footage in the Event library?

I always make an edit of my videos and therefore end up with a fair amount of footage in each event which is not needed any more.
Is there a way of deleting unused footage from a specific project from it's event?

Use the Reject Tool to drag with your mouse over the frames you don't need. They will be marked with a red bar underneath. If you want to reject a whole clip, you can right-click and reject the clip that way too.
Then, select "Rejected Clips Only" in the selection box at the bottom.
Finally, click "move rejected clips to trash".

  • How do I invert a selection in iMovie 11/ delete unused portions of clips

I want to delete unused portions of clips:
In iMovie 11 an orange bar appears at the bottom of a clip to show that that portion of the clip is being used in a project.
If I click on the orange bar, the yellow clip selection extends to that portion of the clip.
I want to invert the selection so that the portion of the clip that is not used is selected so that I can reject it and later delete unused portions.
If there is another way to do that then great...
    Thanks
    David

I think it might be easier to first finish the project with all that extra video clip lying around and then use the Space Saver to tidy things up. It's under the File Menu and is always done at the very end when you have already Finalized your project.
    From the iMovie Help:
In the Event Library, select one or more Events.
To select more than one Event at a time, press Command as you click Event names.
    Choose File > Space Saver.
The File menu appears in a light gray bar across the top of your computer screen.
    Select any of the following:
To reject all of the video that hasn’t been added to an iMovie project, select “Not added to any project.”
To reject all of the video that you haven’t marked as “favorite,” select “Not marked as Favorite.”
To reject all of the video that you haven’t marked with a keyword, select “Not marked with a keyword.”
Click “Reject and Review.”The view changes to show only the rejected clips in the selected Events.
*Note: This is not the full listing of Help for the Space Saver function but you get the idea. It seems as though Apple thinks it's a much better use of your time to put off the house keeping tasks like cleaning up unused video until after you have Finalized the project.

  • Delete unused footage in iMovie 10.0.6

I have used previous versions of iMovie and found that I was able to delete any unused footage in a clip.  For example you had a video clip that was 2 minutes long, but you only used a 10 second snip of it in a project you could delete the remaining 1 minute and 50 seconds which was great in clearing your hard drive. I was able to do this by selecting a folder then holding down command and delete buttons, delete unused footage. In iMovie 10.0.6 I can't seem to be able to do this or find a simular feature.  Any ideas?

    Hello Yanuar Tourniquet,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! The new iMovie interface includes a few video effects that may achieve what you want. For information on how to apply these effects to your clips, check out the following resource:
Add video and audio effects - iMovie Help
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0.6/#/movd17f56aaa
Add a video effect to a clip
    1. In the browser or the timeline, select a clip or range.
    2. To show the effects controls, click the Video and Audio Effects button.
    3. Click the Video Effect button, and then click the video effect you want to apply to the clip.
To remove a video effect, select the clip or range containing the effect, click the Video Effect button, and click None.
