Deleting via Mac 'preview'; trash?

Hi
I've just transferred about 1700 pictures from my iphone to my mac using preview, as I wanted to put them in a folder of my choice.
I then used preview to highlight and delete these 1700 pictures and videos.
I now can't locate the deleted files in trash. If deleting via preview do they not end up in trash?
I only wanted to locate them in trash to remove them permanently/save memory/housekeeping etc.
Thanks in advance

100% sue it was via preview; link to article about it here:
http://www.iskysoft.com/topic-ipod/transfer-photos-from-iphone-to-mac.html
I wanted to have the ability to choose the destination folder and this was the first simple solution I found via Google; not really used iphoto, got an old folder structure and like to store things where I want them, within work/home/holiday folders etc.
Would preview behave in the same way as iphoto with regard to trash if used in this manner? Why?
Thanks again.

  • Private shares permission can't always save or delete via Mac Win 7 ok

I have two macbook airs 14 models and one Imac a 14 model Running Yosemite 10.0.4. I also have a 4 year old Windows 7 Toshiba Laptop. I have a Western digital My Book Live duo, with the latest firmware updated 17 July. This NAS has a number of private shares with full admin rights and accessed via wifi and or lan through a static ip address set in the NAS drive From my Windows 7 I just mapped the drive through the IP address and everything works I can open delete save any type of file I want in any program, create directories and for a small NAS drive on a home network it is very fast. However on my Mac’s there are huge problems, none the least is the slowness of accessing files and the drives. It is like watching grass grow, to see and access files in the various private and public shares. The biggest problem is not all files can be saved over e.g. word for mac 2011 save as and not all can be deleted "due to naming and permission’s errors or access rights to delete or modify"  "Word cvannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error." This is incorrect according to the NAS drive admin page and from the Windows 7 machine that allows it to save. Name changes don’t matter no does assigning user rights to the specific file. It is the same with some videos and other files randomly. I have created a start up script for the apple that runs in the user login items. This is the only way I have found to log into the private shares with Macs. I understand you can do something at a terminal level but I have no understanding of this delay 10tell application "Finder"               mount volume "smb://Networkname;usernameassword@Networkname/User1"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /Photos"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /User"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /Scanneddocuments"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /Scannedphotos"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /music"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /General"               mount volume "smb:// Networkname; usernameassword @ Networkname /Videos"               delay 2               set desktop shows connected servers of Finder preferences to falseend tell This script mounts the shares and keeps the folders hidden on the desktop. Turned ssh back off.  Drive behaves normally. However when I follow this it only brings up the login page no check box to move to the next steps. This may be simple to those who understand these things but alas I don’t.” I am at a loss on how to sort this as I have little knowledge of Apple systems or how to have a WD network share operating like a network should. Is this a Western Digital problem of Apple. I see other posts talking about similar issues relating to file and folder privileges. I saw an earlier post regarding the same issue and a contributor recommended Thank you for any info you can provide

  • Mail is no longer deleted on ISP's  server once received via mac mail- why is this happening?

Why is mail no longer deleted on ISP's  server once received via mac mail?
The box to delete message from ISP's server once it is downloaded is ticked in Mac Mail account's prefrences and this option in the past did delete it from the ISP's server. It no longer does this, it only moved the copy from the ISP's in box to the trash so now the recived message has to be manually removed from the ISP's trash.
Does Apple need to supply a patch to put this right?

  • Can't send cntrl-alt-delete to start PC remotely via Mac

I am using Symantec PC Anywhere software and even when I try the Mac equivalent of cntl-alt-delete the PC I am trying to connect to doesn't recognize the command. (Once I am in, the connection works fine). Any suggestions? Is there a better program out there to connect to a PC remotely via Mac?

I am using Symantec PC Anywhere software
Are you running Windows on the Mac (via Boot Camp, or Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion) or is pcAnywhere CrossPlatform Remote (or something similar) used under Mac OS X?
    the Mac equivalent of cntl-alt-delete
Just guessing here (I do not know whether the command in question will work at all when used via said remote control program). Would it be correct to assume that you have noticed the difference between the delete keys on a PC and a Mac (the delete key on a Mac is the same as backspace on a PC). You may want to have a look at this article (and perhaps this one).
Is there a better program out there to connect to a PC remotely via Mac?
When working under Mac OS X, could something like this (or maybe one of the programs here) possibly be of interest?

how can I delete previously itunes synched photos from my ipad 3 now that I use the cloud instead of synching via mac/itunes?

You will need to connect your iPad to your computer, and on the Photos tab de-select those folders that you no longer want on the iPad - they can't be deleted directly on the iPad. If you no longer want any synced photos on your iPad then you can select and sync just an empty folder.

    Hi k:
That file is in your home folder ~(symbol for home)>library>preferences.
A preference file may (rare, but it happens) become corrupted. OS X rebuilds them as needed. You will need to enter any personal preferences that differ from the default settings.

  • Deleting messages on iPhone won't delete on .Mac

I have an issue where if I delete an email on my iPhone and then log in to .Mac mail, I still see the message there. Further inspection shows that the message is in the .Mac trash AND in the inbox - almost like the message was copied rather than moved. Not sure how to get the sync to finally take effect. I think if I check mail via mail.app it will force the sync. Also, if I delete one of the many messages in the .mac inbox, it will suddenly delete all the messages that should have already been deleted.
Anybody else see this? I have a buddy who is also able to reproduce this "bug".

Make sure the settings in your iphone and on your computer match for where deleted messages go. On the iphone, go to settings>mail>yourdotmacaccount, tap advanced, and it should show you that deleted messages are being put in "Deleted Messages". On your mac, if you don't have a mailbox that says "Deleted Messages" you're fine, because that means that you've told it (or it automatically chose it) that the mailbox "Deleted Messages" is your Trash. On the computer it shows just "Trash" for whatever mailbox is chosen for deleted messages.

  • Mail is no longer deteted on server once received via mac mail- why is this happening?

mail is no longer deteted on server once received via mac mail- why is this happening?
even though box to delete mail once recived is ticked in mac mail account preferences

This box has always been ticked and in the past no copies remained on server, now for no reason I can find the copies are put in the trash folder on the server and have to be manually removed.
Maybe your isp changed what "delete from server" means and that's what they do now.  I would check with your ISP before blaming a mail program local to your machine.
If you want to try a "controlled experiment", set up another mail program,  e.g., Thunderbird, and send a message to yourself.  See if the message is treated the same way.  Note, Thunderbird, like most (all?) mail programs also has an option to delete messages from the server.

  • If I delete my songs from my "Downloads" folder, have them in my "Trash" and then delete them from my "Trash", will I still be able to play the songs on my iTunes or will they be deleted on my iTunes as well?

I want to clear some space on my Mac since it is filling up and I don't have much room left on it. I want to delete all my songs from my "Downloads" folder and then delete them from my "Trash" to free up space however, I'm worried that if I do this then iTunes will not play any of the songs I deleted.
Will I still be able to play my songs on iTunes even if they are not in my "Downloads" or "Trash" folders?
    Thank you.

All tracks in iTunes (if you use default settings) should be in various artist and album folders in the main media folder in the iTunes folder. You can right click a track to reveal its location in Finder.  If there's a copy there then it doesn't really matter what you do with other copies.
I have never downloaded from iTunes but I thought it placed files directly in the correct locations, or is this some other downloads folder to which you are referring?
Normally if you download a file from another source and add it to iTunes by dragging it there, or using the Add To menu item, it places a copy of the file in iTunes.  You can discard the original, but if you're concerned you can check which copy iTunes is actually using as above.

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.

  • How can I permanently delete subfolders in email Trash?

I have been getting duplicate email messages in one of my email folders for several weeks.  I think it started when I upgraded to OS X 10.6.6.  I have RoadRunner as a mail server and have not had this problem before on either my iMac or a previous PC.  I read many many support messages regarding duplicate email messages from this board and tried many of the hopeful fixes but none of them worked on a permanent basis.
I do not have any other electronic machines that hold or try to access my email.  I did, however just order a new laptop and would really like to get the duplication problem fixed before I receive the new computer.
I have 2 email addresses on one server (RoadRunner).  They each have their own folder in Mail Inbox,  one is labeled Personal and the other is labeled Business.  I can send and receive email from my Personal address but I can only RECEIVE mail from my Business address.  I receive the duplicate messages in my Business Inbox folder.
I have deleted messages only to see them reappear the next time I open the folder.  Some of the 'fixes'  I tried caused me to have 3 or 4 duplications.  I noticed that all the instances of a message and its duplications would go to the Trash folder when I used the delete feature.   My Trash Folder also has 2  subfolders, one for Personal and one for Business.  I noticed that when I try to drag a deleted message from the Trash/Business folder it would not allow itself to be placed back in the Inbox/Business folder.  But when I dragged the deleted message from the main Trash Folder to the Inbox/Business folder it would allow itself to be deposited.  So, I deleted the subfolders under the Trash Folder and all seemed to be great.  No more duplicated.  But - the subfolders keep reappearing when I reopen mail.  I have deleted the subfolders each time, but they won't stay deleted.  How do I permanently delete the Trash subfolders?

You are seeing an intentional but strange feature of GMail...  nothing is ever deleted, and instead remains forever in All Mail.  You probably want to just hide All Mail from Mail, so that you don't have to see it and don't have all those messages syncing back to your Mac.  See Hiding GMail’s “All Mail” from Apple Mail.  There has been one change on GMail since I wrote that, though...  you no longer have to go to Labs and turn on Advanced IMAP.

  • How do you Control Alt Delete on mac Book Pro keyboard when using VM Ware?

This must be the stupidest question I'll ever have to ask...but....normally in the office I have a separate mac keyboard/screen/mouse and log into Windows via VM Ware. I am using the latest Mac Book Pro model. I have to click on the window and press Control Alt Delete before I log in. This works fine until the day I was out of the office and had to press Control Alt Delete via the Mac Book Pro's own keyboard and nothing happened. I passed the laptop over to 2-3 other mac friendly people and we all were left scratching our heads.
Can anyone shed some light on this??
    Kris

    Google is your friend!*
Turned up another Apple Discussions post that said to press  + U at the ctrl-alt-del prompt to bring up the 'visually challenged' tools, and to turn on the on-screen keyboard. This should allow you to log in, then once you are in, remap the keys to something more convenient, maybe assigning the right-hand-side command key to DEL. Unfortunately, I haven't used a Windows PC in ages, so I can't tell you how to do this.
On a related note, I've just discovered that I don't have an  key on my MBP. You learn something new every day!

  • How do I get iPhone to store deleted messages in MobileMe trash?

Here's the scenario: I have a Mac Pro, MacBook and iPhone 4. I use IMAP MobileMe with Mail.app for email while at home, and while I'm away and don't have my MacBook with me, I use the MobileMe web interface. I want all of my deleted messages from these different sources to end up in the same Trash mailbox on the server. I thought I had all of my devices set up to do that, but what's happening now is that when I delete a message from the iPhone, it goes into a folder called "Deleted Messages" in my MobileMe folders list.
On my Macs I have "Store deleted messages on server" checked, and "Erase deleted messages" set to "never". On my iPhone I've set the trash to "On the Server > Deleted Messages (.Mac)". This description appears next to the trash can icon, which I assumed would be where my deleted messages from Mail.app are going. But this doesn't seem to be the case.
    Any ideas?

I haven't tried this, but browsing in private browsing (Tools > Start Private Browsing) while doing will probably keep Firefox from storing which sites you visited. Clearing the last hour's history will probably do the trick too.

  • How to access the e-mails which are stored in different folders via Mac

Hi guys, I am new to Mac. My problem is about the setting of Mac Mail.
There are 8 folders with my hotmail account in order to automatically sort e-mail into folders. I only can get the e-mails of inbox folder via Mac Mail software. I am wondering how to access the other e-mails which are stored in other folders.
    Thanks a lot!

I don't think that things have changed going from 10.5 Mail to 10.6 Mail in this regard (I need to log on to my laptop more often). So, assuming that my premise is correct, in the left hand column of the mail window, underneath your inbox, drafts, sent, trash, and junk mailboxes, there should be the descriptive name of your mail account, written in gray capital letters, with a gray triangle to the left of that name. If the gray triangle is pointing to the right, click on it so that it points downward. That will expand the account view of mailboxes on the server. You should be able to see all of the other folders.
