Deleting years of old iCal entries

I'd like to get MacBook to delete all iCal entries more than 200 days old, to free up space in both my hard drive and my iPhone. This is probably simple, but I can't find anywhere to do it.
I've already been into iCal preferences and entered that I only want the last 200 days, but it hasn't worked - the entries are still there!

I tried the Automator thing too ... not .. as you say above .. locks the system .. nothing happens and things freeze up .... sigh .... well .. all that being said, I have to say I am enjoying MAC since the switch from PC, I am just finding some of the problems REALLY basic ... like ridiculous oversights ... Can anyone answer this one:?
When I first import a photo, the thumbnails work fine when using scrolling through ... though, if I modify the photo in anyway or change the size, the thumbnail in icon view works well, but if I want to use the scroll feature where they are all displayed like dominos on the top window area, any changed photo is now pixely and blurred. Any answers there? Also ... I am wanting to take all my folders in PC and import them to iPhoto, but am wondering if when I change the size of a photo to save space, does iPhoto keep them in the large size in the /originals/ folder? or can I pull them from that folder and resize them modifying the original? Then of course, I have my thumbnail problem as a result .... (Sorry, realize it's a different thread, but, I was here when I thought of it)

  • Ipad deleting old ical entries

I have an ipad and a Mac for work and use icloud to sync ical. What is infuriating is that the ipad is only retaining details for the preceding month and wiping anything before that. Why is it happening and how do I stop it?

Check your settings are not forcing the calendar to only sync events for the last month.
Settings > mail, contacts and calendars, scroll down to the calendar section and check that sync option is not set to "events one month ago".

  • Delete and Archive iCal entries

    Hi,
With other agenda/ToDo programs I have used, things get full and sluggish after a certain amount of entries accumulate. Typically, there is an option to delete and archive more distant entries from the past, along with ToDo items that have been checked off. These can be opened and searched separately, and I have typically archived ~ yearly.
Is there any built-in option to do this with iCal? I know there is an option to backup the database, but I thought this was mostly in case of corruption or loss of the file. If there is no built-in option, is this necessary, or will iCal operate without slowing or problems no matter how many entries I have? I prefer to have the deleted entries saved and able to be searched, to help track down distant past appointments and tasks.
As a last resort, are there any separate programs that allow this? I have been unable to find anything thus far.
Thanks in advance for any answers or advice on this matter.

I just explored the gmail site and found the Archive button but no file. I selected a message and clicked Archive, homing the Archive file would appear. No luck. Nor can I find in the phone's Mail settings that I want to delete rather than archive. One would think Apple would have a document to suggest ways of managing email. One would think.

I discovered how to enter the track titles onto my newer MacBook Pro, and was so pleased!  But when I tried to do the same with the other laptop, it failed.
What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?
My older laptop is a 2.6 GHz Core Duo; it has 36 GB of "memory available."  The newer one  a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 284 GB of memory available.
Both are using the same version of Snow Leopard--10.6.8.

  • Old calandar entries being deleted

    Hi,
My Blackberry handset has been deleting old calendar entries.  When i synchronise with my desktop, i lose the old entries.
    It's a Pearl 9105, OS6, T mobile.
I've checked in 'calendar' 'options' on my handset and checked that it is set to 'keep forever' (it has always been set to this).
I don't know what else to so and can't synchronise again until I know how to sort this out as i don't want to lose any more old calendar entries.
    Please advise - thanks
    Sarah

There are settings in the Destop Software that control that. Connect the device, dont sync it, and then adjust the settings for calendar sync.

    Hi MMD,
Please see my response to your questions below.
    a. Is it safe to just delete the old files and just create a BDoc Type entries for BUPA_MAIN and BUPA_Rel so that we could apply the DO NOT SEND resolution?
Ans: It is not advisable to delete the BDocs as it may cause data inconsistency but if you are ready to do some extra work and your business allows you to initiate the initial load then you can surely delete the queues. Use the DIMA tool to find out the data inconsistency and resolve it.
    b. If we set up the BDOC types and apply the DO NOT SEND resolution, will it be safe to reprocess all the pending CSA* queues even if its old already (May 2008) to clear the SMW01 queues as well?
Ans: You can restart the queues any time it does not matter how old it is.
    Thanks,
    Vikash.

  • ICloud is randomly deleting iCal entries

At several points over the past week, I thought my calendar appeared unusually "thinned out". Then last night I noticed an appointment I had been delaying for a while was nowhere to be seen.
At first I thought it may be somewhere on my calendar, a week back or so.  This is because I had been rescheduling that appointment often, so I had moved it back, a day here and a day there, every week for the past month or so. I knew the exact title of the entry so I did a search for it.
It was gone. Apparently deleted. I refreshed everything and even checked my iPad & iPhone calendars for it Nothing...
I blamed myself, re-created the entry, and moved on. At this time I also made several new entries and planned my week. Then today I went back to my calendar on my Mac, opened iCal, saw the appointments for today, that I entered last night, disappear before my very eyes. I then picked up my iPhone to view the calendar there, and they were gone.
Next I picked up my iPad and turned off Wi-Fi as quickly as possible. Once Wi-Fi was disconnected and I was no longer online, I opened iCal and there were my appointments. There were five different instances of appointments scheduled last night that we're now deleted and gone. This is important because it rules out an accidental deletion. I took a screen grab to preserve my data, and went looking for answers. I found none.
I'm freaked out. I live & die by my iCal and I'm worried this has happened before where maybe I didn't notice.
The only recent change I can possibly link to this iCloud synced iCal, is that I allowed an app called FlightTrack Pro to "Sync with iCloud". Which is relatively reassuring, only because it was a fairly new addition, therefore decreasing the likelihood that there were problems in the past. IF its this access causing the deletions.
    Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing happen several times. I too independently concluded that it could only be the updated FlightTrack Pro App feature as you stated. It was the only new thing on my devices.  My Apple tech support expert told me to read your entry. I agree and disabled the 'SYnc with iCloud' feature. But I'm still allowing the 'SYnc with Calendar' option. But if the iCal entries that I just made disappear again, I will then disable that button on FT Pro. A major pain.

  • My BB Storm is deleting all of my old calendar entries in Outlook! HELP!

I've seen this raised a few times with different handsets, and different email/calendar clients, however, I've yet to find a BB Storm messing around with Outlook 2009. However, am guessing that its a generic BB problem that messes up ALL email/calendar clients!
In short - I've followed the advice on the Vodafone website, to reset the sync settings in the DM, and then set them back up again - DIDN'T WORK.
I've also ensured that on the Handset/Calendar options, that they are set to be kept - FOREVER, makes no difference!
I don't know what to do next. I really, really need to keep all of my old diary entries for client reference and notes etc. I can't have one-way sync, as I often make appointments when out and about, and its CRUCIAL that the handset then updates the laptop the next time they are sync'd, so that both diaries are always showing all information, all of the time, as well as having the full history.
Can I make this work, or should I be resigned to the fact that in all these years, RIM hasn't worked out that business people need to keep records of important stuff like this!?
    Richard

I am faced with the same issue and reluctant to sync my calendar now.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • ITunes deleted all my iCal entries on syncing

Turned on syncing for iCal and with no prompting or nag asking "Do you really want to do this?" it promptly wiped out all my iCal entries on my iPhone.
    How exactly is this user-friendly?????
What happened to the concept of do no harm?
Since when did sync mean delete?
    <Edited by Moderator>

Did you have any entries in iCal on your Mac? If so, you would have been prompted to Merge the data, unless you have very few calendar entries - the default is a prompt is more than 5% of the data will be changed. But, if iCal was empty, events on the iPhone are simply deleted. Even one event would have been enough. Next time, you know.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Accessing old calendar entries

Hi - I am new to the forum - hoping someone can help me. Doing my taxes and I put all of my appointments in my BB and didn't write them down for last year. Does anyone know how to access events that are older on our BB calendar? I see nothing on my calendar for the months of last year... HELP?!

inside the Calendar application, in the options, there is a setup to delete old calendar entries after some time. Please check how many days you have allowed before deletion. Mine is set to "forever".

  • ISync deleted a calendar from iCal

I'm very new to the Mac world. My PC died at Thanksgiving and I'm still getting used to my new iMac. I am using iSync to sync between my new iMac and my very old Handspring Visor Prism. Things are going remarkably well except now that I have moved all my (11 years worth) calendar appts/events to the iMac, I'd like to stop storing and syncing them to the Visor, since I'm worried that it will fail if it gets too full.
My bright idea was to create a separate calendar with all events from 97-08 and then use the "home" calendar from 2009 going forward. So on my next sync, I only checked "Home" to sync so that there would be less on my Visor. Doing this, iSync successfully synchronized the Home calendar (w/my newer events), but deleted my "old" calendar from iCal. I don't understand why that happened. I thought unselecting a calendar in iSync would do the same thing as the "Do Nothing" option in HotSync (literally, don't sync, but also, don't delete!).
Is there any way to keep some events in an iCal calendar but not on your handheld device?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

The deletion of your unchecked iCal calendar would or should have only occurred if you first deleted the the matching calendar on your Palm device prior to the next synchronization event, and did not opt to reset the framework as described below. The appropriate 'reaction' of the Sync Services framework on your machine is to delete matching calendar event and task information in your truth database, and distribution those deletion changes to all other synchronized applications, devices and servers.
If you had simply unchecked the calendar in your drop-down iSync device configuration pane then reset the framework using the option in the iSync Preferences… dialog to do so and subsequently overwritten the contents of your Palm device—as opposed to merging data with it—your calendar would have remained in iCal but matching data would have been removed from the Palm device.
Whenever you seek to make a substantial change such as you did, you should back up your iCal and Address Book records using the built-in options in each application to do so, BEFORE you next execute a synchronization event. In that way, it's easy to 'recover' data when an unexpected result occurs.

  • Old calendar entries disappear

I use the calendar on both the iPhone and iCal on Mac OS X and have them synced. This works fine except for one thing. Old calendar entries (over a month ago) are deleted when I sync.
There is an option to do this automatically in iCal on Mac OS (it is disabled) I assume a similar option is enabled on the iPhone and they disappear when I sync because they are deleted from the iPhone version. Any idea how I disable this on the iPhone?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but under Mail, contacts, calendar settings and all the way down at the bottom. There you can select how far back you want your calendar to sync.

  • Year view in iCal

Hello, Is there any possibility to have a whole YEAR VIEW in iCal. I need this function and I'have to copy all my entries twice in a spreedsheet that's so boring what is the benefit to have our data in a computer if we cannot display it the way we need? Apple people, please!

    Anybody listening?
Well, not Apple developers, they don't read these user-to-user forums. Try OS X Feedback

  • How do i transfer 2011 Birthdays to this year (2012) in iCal

How do i transfer 2011 Birthdays to this year (2012) in iCal?
It seems I have to do it manually at the moment?

iCal and the Address Book are integrated.
If you want the birthday for each one of your contacts that you want to track birthdays for entered automatically in iCal every year - year after year without having to do anything extra, enter the birthday for each contact you want this for in the Address Book. In iCal preferences, select to show the Birthdays calendar. Done.
If not, keep doing it the way you have been doing it which will require copy and paste each birthday in iCal from last year to this year. Repeat for next year and the year after that. Or go into each Birthday event in iCal one by one and select repeat every year for the event. Have fun with that since your question is based on iCal only and you are not interested in learning anything new that makes this process easy and automatic. A contact's birthday should be entered with the rest of the contact's info in the Address Book, and Apple includes a simple option with one mouse click in iCal to bring the birthday entries for each contact in the Address Book over to iCal automatically each year - year after year. But pay no attention - your question is about iCal only.
    Good luck.
