Deletion of Artist/Songs after Addition of Additional Songs by Artist

I initially added only some of the songs on a CD I "ripped." Then I decided to add the full CD. (In the interim, I updated my iPod software, as instructed by Apple.)
When adding the new songs, I received the message (to paraphrase) "some of the songs on the CD already exist. Do you want to replace?"
I said "Yes."
Now, I only have the songs I added secondarily by that artist. E.g., I had seven songs by Tori Amos, from three CDs. I added 4 songs from ONE of the same Cds. ALL of the pre-existing songs are gone from my iPod, including those on entirely different CDs. The songs are still on my Library on my hard disc. Only four songs that added have been added to the iPod; the seven Tori Amos songs that were already on the iPod are gone.
No matter how many times I update my iPod, the old songs (that are still on the library) will not go back on to the iPod.
What have I done wrong?

I don't know why it works that way. Wether it's intentional or a glitch I have no idea.
Anybody know how to get them to all show up if I only want to list one album?
Unfortunatley, it has to have a second album listing.

  • Playing songs after end of previous song when waiting some minutes

When I played a song and don't play straight away another song within a minute or 2, the player ópens at thebeginning of the next song I have selected, but don't start playing. It looks like that it is froozen. I have to close Itunes and start-up again to solve the problem. If I select songs direct after the previous song has ended, then there is no problem. Does anyone know a solution to this problem??
    Many thanks for your assistance

Have you tried letting it sit for a while and see if it finally starts the next song after a LONNNGGGGG delay?
I recall someone else having a problem like this some time ago and the issue was anti-virus software. Apparently it was monitoring the iTunes folder. When the song ended, iTunes increments the play count one and updates the date and time of the last play. Well when it would go to update the database file in the iTunes folder the anti-virus software would kick in and slow the process down from being almost instant to taking a couple minutes. After a couple minute delay the next song would start.
So the solution ended being to tell the anti-virus software to EXCLUDE the iTunes folder from monitoring.

  • IPad deleted all my music after I bought a song in iTunes.

I purchased a song on my iPad, and once it completed downloading, the song would not appear on my iPod. I restarted my iPad and all of my music was gone aside from the songs I purchased on my iPad, including the song I had just downloaded. Any idea why this occurred?

It may be hidden still on your iPad, but if it's truly gone, you can contact the iTunes Support site for help. First, authorize your computer, then sync your iPad. Many times, the song(s) can be found and they'll be transferred to the computer. Now, if this doesn't fix it, iTunes will often give you a download exception:
www.apple.com/support/itunes has a "Get Customer Service" section with gray boxes below them. Click "Music Purchases" 3rd from bottom. Then, click "Lost or Missing Items". You'll see an "Email Us" link that appears on the top-right.
Click that, and you will be sending an email directly to the iTunes Billing department. Tell them that the songs were NOT backed up after downloading directly to your iPad. List all the songs that are missing (at least, the ones that came from iTunes). You can find your Purchase History here, and even use iTunes (on the computer) to Report a Problem.

  • Can Play Next continue playing songs after it's "next" song?

I've always liked the idea behind Play Next, but don't understand why it doesn't continue playing from the "next" song that I added.  It goes back to the previous playlist once the Next song is over.  Is it possible to Play Next and Continue On?  In other words, if I'm on song 4 and add song 15 to Play Next, why can't it continue onto song 16 instead of going back to song 5?
Also, is Play Next (or some kind of queue system) possible on the iPhone?  So I can queue up songs as I'm listening.

Anyone?  Is this not a possibility?

I have an ipod nano and use one click digital to download books from my library.  My nano says I have 2449 songs which is about 65 books.  I have deleted all my playlists after I listen to the audiobook.  Now I get a message saying I don't have enough room on my nano to transfer new books to it.  My nano is 16 GB and my operating system is Windows 7.

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

Some of my songs didn't transfer to my cloud.  How do I put these songs on my iphone so that I can listen to them in addition to the songs that made it to my cloud?
Right now, I can't transfer songs from my laptop to my iPhone unless I turn off iTunes Match 1st.  Once the songs are on there, I turn iTunes Match back on, but then the songs that I just transferred over dissapear...
    Please help!

I'm having the same problem, some of my songs will transfer but not all of them. It seems there are alot of people having this problem and apparently Apple doesn't know how to fix it. All my songs were purchased through itunes so they all should upload to any apple device. Sorry I'm not any help, maybe Apple can finally do something about it.

Using Firefox 3.6.20 and Windows XP Home SP3. Firefox sporatically deletes bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar. Additionally, when I try to import from a saved HTML file, Firefox does not import the complete file. Results are inconsistent.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Is there a way to uninstall Legacy and Compatibility Content after installing with Additional Content?

    Hey Antonio,
That's a good suggestion, and it's something that we're already planning on addressing in the next release, probably via a service that you can use to view information about patches and notifications -- not only the ones that were known at the time that you installed, but also ones that might have come into existence since then.
In case you're still looking for the link to that CVI 2009 notification, you can find it here.
By the way, my world cup sympathies to you -- your guys were robbed.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation keeps deleting my music even after restoring it and I can't sync new songs anymore

Hello, I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8GB that I purchased brand new in January 2013. The device is currently running iOS 6.1.6.
It worked perfectly fine until today, when I tried to sync one single song on it.
While i was syncing it, I noticed that on the iPod screen, the song menu begun scrolling without me touching the display, some song titles became white (as when you're syncing a song) or disappeared leaving blank lines, until the music app crashed.
When I opened it again, it said that there where no songs in my library.
I tried copying my music on the iPod again, but it only copied one song, after that when I tried syncing more songs, iTunes kept saying "preparing synchronization" (or something similar) but nothing happened.
I tried restoring the device, and initializing it as a new iPod (without using any backups) and then I started copying my songs on it again.
But after the 15th song, the problem occurred again.
    What can I do?
Is it possible that it's the case of an hardware failure? My photo library wasn't affected, and except for the music problem, my iPod is running fine, it's not even an old device and no accidents even happened to him (like falling on the ground or something like that).
    Any tips?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm having the same problem with my 4th gen iPod touch. After the update my iPod synched and wiped all my music off - apps & podcasts weren't affected. Restored it a couple of times and that didn't work.
I tried copying a couple of albums over and it would do a couple of songs then the rest of the album would look like it had copied instantly. I tried playing the songs and it would play the first couple of songs once, then it came up with ! Beside every song (including the ones I'd just played and said they weren't on my iPod.
I've removed iTunes from my laptop and downloaded the few iTunes bought albums over WiFi to my iPod. The rest of my music is from cds or mixes/podcasts downloaded from soundcloud so I've had to use a different program to copy some of this music to my iPod for the time being until I can see how to sort this out.

  • Why does my music from one album show up as two separate albums: one with all the songs in it, and another with two or three. Why is it that when i delete the incomplete album it takes the same songs out of the complete album also?

When I first imported music from my CDs onto my iTunes library, all the songs appeared, but those with the album artist and guest/additional artists they appeared in their own album under the same album name. After searching through iTunes help and support, I learned how to put all the songs under the same album (part of a compalition) and add the additional songs information, artwork, lyrics, etc. After getting all the music (imported from my CDs) onto the iTunes library and in their album. I synced my music onto my iPhone. (My iPhone is a 3GS)
Once the music was on my iPhone i noticed that the albums appeared in 2s again. One was the complete album with all the songs, song info, etc. together (solo tracks and/or one with multiple artists) and another album of the same name, artwork, etc. with 2-4 of the songs from that album. Since all I saw need for was to have the completed album on my iPhone, I deleted the album with only 2-4 of the songs. When I went back and selected the completed album, all the songs I had deleted from the incomplete album were also deleted from the completed album too! I just couldn't figure out why it did that and my my friends with iPods and iPhones said they didn't know what caused it either. So now I'm here with the idea how to fix this problem.
If anyone has a solution to this problem, please reply. It will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why this happens, but I found a workaround. Below the album title it will list the artist(s). The issue seems to happen when there are multiple artists. For example, an Album titled "Over the Sea to Skye" has The Chieftains and James Galway as artists. Some tracks (for whatever reason) will list only one of these and result in the playlist showing what appears to be multiple albums. You can click on the artists and it will highlight. Paste in what is appearing on the other "albums" and it will then show as one:
Hope that is somewhat clear enough to help. Doesn't fix whatever the issue is but it is a workaround. For me this is only happening with CD's that I have imported.

  • My ipod touch 4gen is showing songs but shows nothing under albums or artists. iTunes shows album data. Both iPod and iTunes have up to date software

I have an iPod Touch 4gen. 32gb running iOS 6.1.6. I am seeing only "Songs" on this device the "album" and "artist" are both showing empty. I am running iTunes 12.1.26 and am showing both album and artist information in addition to songs. I have tried syncing with iTunes without success. I'm sort of a noob at this so please be specific. Thanks

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • De-cluttering tip: Is there a way to prevent a track from showing up under "Artist" while still being able to view the artist info when I play the song by Album?

    I asked this question here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15312099#15312099
It was suggested I re-post in this forum, seeing as the problem may be specific to the Touch.
So, I have lots of "compilation" albums that include songs by various artists (for example, Pitchfork's top 500 singles of the decade). I usually select my music by "Artist," and now my ipod is super cluttered, because now I have hundreds and hundreds of artists listed, many of which I only have one or two songs by from this compilation.
One solution: simply delete the artist information for these large compilations, and then the songs from the compilations will no longer show up under "Artists." Problem is, I would like to know who the artists are when I play the compilation (I simply don't want to have the artists listed under "Artists")
Another solution: I could manually delete the artist info, but paste that info on to the song name. For example, a track that once looked like:
    Artist: Nirvana
    Title: Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
After my editing, would look like:
    Artist: [blank]
Title: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
This would solve my problem...but it would literally take hours to do for each and every individual song. Not practical.
Does any one have any other suggestions? It seems like there would be a way to just check a box for what info you want to be listed (ie, I could un-check "Artist," and then the song would no longer be listed by Artist, even though the Artist information would still be retained for reference). Does this option exist?
In the prior thread, someone suggested I mark it as a "compilation" in iTunes. But that did not prevent the individual artists from being listed under "Artists." Someone suggested that I may need to turn "Compilation" to "On" on my iPod. But that does not seem to be an option on the Touch.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!!

I usually select my music by "Artist," and now my ipod is super cluttered, because now I have hundreds and hundreds of artists listed, many of which I only have one or two songs by from this compilation.
Why not set the iPod to show Compilations?
In Settings select Main menu (or Music menu) and check Compilations. (You can do so for both if you desire.)
Now all of the Artists that only appear in compilation albums won't appear in Artists.
To get to the Artists that only appear in compilation albums open Compilations in your Main Menu or Music Menu (or either).

  • ITunes Partial Playback of Songs after Library Transferred from PC to Mac

I recently attempted to transfer the individual iTunes folders of music from my PC running Windows XP using a flash drive to my new Macbook Pro. I imported the songs via iTunes directly from the flash drive into iTunes. After doing this the songs will only play partially before changing to the next song. The entire track is there and will play if I manually click the playback scroll beyond the stopping point. Is there anyway to fix this bug in iTunes?

See Make a split library portable. A portable library can be stored entirely on an external drive and moved between Mac and Windows computers. iTunes takes a little longer to open the library the first time after each switch. If your drive is currently formatted to NTFS then you will need an additional driver to enable OS X to write to the drive, or simply clone the library to an HFS+ drive.
