Dell 1815dn and Mac OS 10.8.4

the mentioned printer is not working any via more WiFi after having updated to 10.8.4. The printer is connected to the router via Ethernet. It is shown in the printer dialog to be added via Bonjour but after having sent a print job it is not found. The same printer works when directly connetced via Ethernet to the MBP.
The latesr drivers provided by Dell as of April 2012 are for Power PCs only
Can anyone help - thanks in advance!

Thanks!

  • Dell Laptop and Mac Mini HD swap?

I've got myself a Mac mini Intel, 60 gig hard drive in it running on empty and I've also got a Dell Inspirion 6400 Laptop and was wondering if it is at all possible to swap the two? Anybody know?

They both use SATA hard drives, so chances are very high that you could swap the drives over successfully. Of course, you may need to repartition, and would nee to reformat and reinstall both with the correct operating system, and you would loose functionality of the recovery partition (if it has one) on the Dell's hard drive once it was not longer in the Dell, and have no easy way to put a similar recovery partition on the mini's hard drive once it's in the Dell - which would make recovering that system rather problematic if it needs it and you don't have complete reinstall disks.
All in all, unless money was a real problem, I'd be more inclined to buy a larger (and possibly faster) hard drive for the mini. http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Criteria=SATA%202%2E5%20Hard%20Disk% 20Drive&sort=a is a good place to check out the options, with the 7200rpm drives being particularly notable for the potential performance benefits to the system as a whole.

  • Dell printer and Mac OS

Hi, we just switched over to Mac and am trying to get my Dell 2130cn printer to work with these computers. Many thanks to the help in this forum, i was able to find and download the recommended pxlmono driver and can now print in color. However, i'm not able to use the duplexer, second tray, and printing photos takes forever. We are using the comps/printer in a business application, and printing newsletters, envelopes/graphics etc is a necessary daily event. Does Mac offer a translating software that will allow me to install the Dell drivers to run the printer as I did on our PCs, or should I buy a new printer?? Many thanks

Thanks for the replies guys. Just to double check--would it work if I installed Windows with a Mac program that allowed me to run Windows parallel to the Mac os (i'm sick of windows) just to run the printer? I know it seems like an easier solution to just buy a new printer, but frankly I'm not excited about the options out there--really like this printer and have $500 of toners we just bought for it. But i don't really want to compromise--I'd like it to work like it did on a PC. Thanks again

  • Mac pro (late 2013), Dell UP2414Q and windows8.1 bootcamp

I bought mac pro (late 2013) and Dell UP2414Q.
Monitor is set on DP1.2 and works normally in OS X. I get 4K@60Hz, I can switch to lower resolutions like 1920x1080 and it works.
Then I Installed windwos 8.1 which I need for some testing and I have aproblem here:
When DP 1.2 is enabled, and I switch to 1920x1080 resolution, I get 2 pictures on screen squeezed together - totally useless and I can't work on that.
If I disable DP 1.2 and revert on monitor to DP 1.1 it works normally. But I switch to 4K with only DP1.1 enabled I can get only 30Hz out.
As it seems under OS X I can use any resolution with DP 1.2 enabled, but not in windows 8.1 via bootcamp.
I would really really love to get this working, I tried next things, but nothing worked:
    -update bootcamp support
-update AMD gpu drivers from their web page
I already wrote on Dell forum and I got redirected here on apple forums.

which model  rMBP 13"  or rMBP 15"
the 13 will support it with the latest intel drivers.
the 15 will support it with the latest nvidia drivers.
i have both models and both are working correctly.

  • Macbook pro with retina difference in image quality of Pc(dell) and mac quality

Ok this is my dilemma. I have had a dell for about 5 years now never calibrated or anything(never even knew what that was).
So there are some photos I upload to my flickr account from my macbook and I looked at the same flickr account on my pc and the images were dull, lacked color.
I went to the apple store and they suggested that maybe i have been looking at the wrong quality all along from my pc lol!
I know flickr should not be the basis on how I view photos but even when I take one photo from the mac and view it on my pc regularly it still looks horrible.
Please help Im scared that when I give people their photos aside from print that the images on their flash drives will come out dull and lacking bold color.
    Also I edit with photoshop.

Are you saving images with the correct color profile? Normally for web you would use sRGB. Make sure you are being consistent on Windows and Mac.
You can have a different working color space. For example I use Pro Photo RGB as the working space in both Lightroom and Photoshop, but I usually export in sRGB (web; email) or Adobe RGB (printing)

  • Windows Quickbooks and Dell Printer on Mac

Hi, we recently purchased new Macs and made the switch from PC. Love them. A couple of questions: we have a Dell 2130cn printer (I asked about in a different post a month ago) who's drivers are incompatible with the new Macs--based on the info I got from my last post I am able to use the basic functions of the printer with a generic driver but can't print envelopes or quickly print pictures, for example. Question 1: will installing windows on the macs allow me to load the Dell Driver and operate it as normal in Windows mode. 2: if that will work, can I print Mac based programs, like Pages.
Different Question: If the above doesn't work, do I have to purchase and install Windows in order to use Quickbooks Pro or is there a program I can install that will translate and allow me to use Quickbooks in Mac OS?
    Thanks in advance, Birch

will installing windows on the macs allow me to load the Dell Driver and operate it as normal in Windows mode
    Yes
can I print Mac based programs, like Pages.
    No

I went to Dell Website and there were no listing for Mas so was unable to download anything to help. Any other ideas????

If you have already downloaded it, have you installed it yet? I know the most recent Flash plug-in isn't optimized for Chrome, but Safari works just fine with it. There should be an arrow pointing down in your upper right hand corner of the screen. If you tap on that, it will list your downloads. Tap on the Flash download and you should be able to follow the prompts to install the plug-in.

No, it will sync the ipod to the content of the MBA which presumably has nothing on it (= erasing content of iPod and replacing it with nothing).

  • Any EASY, simple to use external hard drives that are PC and Mac interchangeable?

I have a new Mac Book Pro, running Mountain Lion.  I am new to Mac; my old laptop is a Dell running Windows 7.
I would like to move over ALL my pictures and files from the Dell to an external hard drive (EHD) that is also Mac-compatible.  I want all the pictures and documents SAVED and easily retrievable on the EHD, but probably don't really need *ALL* of them on the Mac.
Does anyone know of an EHD that will do this?  One that is really super easy to use and won't need "reformatted".  (I don't want to have to try to deal with that!)
I just want to put ALL my stuff from my Dell on an EHD, then move over SPECIFIC items from that EHD to my Mac.
    Any advice?  Recommendations?  THANK YOU!

    Bob,
I'm sorry, my message was unclear!  No, I'm not looking to hook up two computers at one time to one EHD.
I'm just looking to be able to use one EHD, and go back and forth between it and the Mac or Dell, getting stuff off one, and putting stuff onto the other.
I have all my old Dell files and photos already on the EHD.  I was afraid that once I formatted the EHD that those files from my Dell that were already there would somehow no longer be accessible to transfer to the Mac?  But it sounds like this isn't so?
So, to clarify: I would like to continue to have access to the files on the EHD (from the Dell).  Once I format the EHD, will those files still be accessible to me, to either leave "as is", or transfer to the Mac, now or later?
    THANK YOU!

  • Sync iPhone between iTunes on PC and Mac?

My brother-in-law is a paraplegic and I am trying to help him sync his iPhone (original) with his iTunes. He has a MacBook (Black) but when his hard drive crashed he started using his old Dell laptop and iTunes. Apparently, this is what he originally sync'd his iPhone to. He now has his MacBook back and wants to sync his iPhone to this. This is not a problem with his purchased iTunes music library but he has some music from his CDs on his Windows iTunes and this machine is in Florida and he currently is on Cape Cod.
When I connected his iPhone to his MacBook, a dialog box popped up saying that there was new software for the iPhone and his iPhone music library will be erased.
Question: Is there anyway to sync his iPhone to both his Windows iTunes and his Mac iTunes without erasing the entire music library?

    No, there is not.
The iPhone can only be synced to one iTunes library at a time.

  • Connect dell s2240t to mac mini

can i connect dell s2240t to mac mini and there are any drivers?

    The specs:

only lists Windows 8 as being compatible. Unless you can find drivers that support OSX, the touch feature will not work.

  • Difference between PC and mac?

With the Intel-based macs, we can install Windows on a mac and run it as if it's running on a PC. That leads me to a question. What exactly is the difference between PC and mac? I know they are different on the OS, but that's just on a software level, which I don't think constitutes the difference. The hard drives are formatted differently on both machines, I know, but we can still use the same hard drive for both a PC or a mac, we just have to format it the right way. So what really is the main thing that constitutes the difference between a PC and a mac? Putting it this way, I can run PC on a mac, can I do it the other way round? Can I install a Mac OS 10.5 on a pure PC made by companies like hp or Dell (or I can easily make one on my own) with an Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad processor, and run the machine like it's a mac?

    Allan Eckert wrote:
While some have managed to hack things so that they can install OS X on a PC, the results have been not very reliable. Generally OS X has many part that do not function properly.
It doesn't work well because the Mac hardware itself is different from what is found in any other Intel-based computer. Even the CPU's & support chips are not off-the-shelf Intel parts but variants optimized for Macs that are not available to other computer makers or to DIY enthusiasts.
This is probably why for a time in 2007 the 'fastest Windows notebook on earth' was a MacBook Pro, as tested by PC World, a fact touted for a while in Apple TV ads. (It lost that title to a more conventional Wintel laptop about a month later, but the new champ cost over $5000, had "almost nonexistent" battery life, & weighs over 11 pounds, which should give you some idea of the advantages an Intel-Apple collaboration has over the competition.)

  • Will PC and Mac be able to get together this Valentine's?

    Hello!
My flatmate has an Apple eMac and I have a Windows 98 Dell Dimension XPS R450. We have just signed up to NTL Broadband and have the modem connected to the Windows 98 PC. Broadband is running fine on the PC.
One of us is a student and the other an impoverished musician so we want to try and get both computers running internet independently as cheaply as possible. Is it possible to buy a cable (not wireless) router and connect both computers to this? Are there any types of router that are PC and Mac friendly? Or is Airport Extreme the only way the Mac can connect up? If so what would we need for this to work?
Thankyou very much for your help, you may just have played cupid to two lovely shy creatures!
    The Admiral

    Welcome aboard, Admiral.
Routers are pretty much platform independent, since they "talk" ethernet, and configuration is usually done via browsers. Some come with Windows wizards to assist with setup, but this doesn't mean they won't work with a Mac. Macs can connect to pretty much any router.
You might check with your provider- sometimes they can provide a modem with a built-in router, which might be cheaper for you. Otherwise, you should watch the web or local newspapers for router on sale. In my experience, you might get a wireless router cheaper sinced these seem to be "loss leaders" at many stores; these generally have wired connections as well, so you don't need to connect wirelessly.
BTW, Admiral, do you know what one calls a musician who has just broken up with his partner? Homeless.
Hopefully this brings you closer on this Valentines Day; we wouldn't want you to be sleeping rough.
