Dell 20.1 Inch UltraSharp LCD 2007FP Widescreen

I've found several postings that this will work with the MBP. I've got one on order. Does anyone have any recommendations for setting this up? I plan to use the DVI connection, laptop lid closed, BT mouse and keyboard.
I did try this out at work using a Dell 19" display. I didn't have time to fool around with adjustments as the user of the Dell 19" display need to put the machine back in service.
Any recommendation on picture adjustment would be appreciate. Can you use Apple's software to make these tweaks, or is it all going to be done using the Dell LCD's front panel buttons?
Wanted to go all Apple, but just can afford it right now. I hope I don't live to regret it!

I have that exact same setup, the Dell Widescreen 20.1 inch and the MacBook Pro, and you can adjust settings in Preferences as well as on the display menu (fine tuning), but you shouldn't have to. the monitor is designed to be automatic---it sends the display info to the computer for auto setup.
Starting with the MBP and the Dell display off, I connected them with the DVI connection, turned on the display and then turned on the MBP. The MBP automatically recognizes the display, and if the MBP lid is open, the display is extended, if you close the lid, everything goes to sleep. Leave the lid closed and use an external keyboard or mouse to wake it up and the Dell display will become the main display. To mirror the displays, you have to go into Preferences; otherwise, it will remain either one display or extended.
I connected an Apple wireless keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse and it all works great.
The Dell display is just beautiful, and the extra widescreen room makes photo and video editing so much easier. The other thing I noticed (that I couldn't see on Dell's website) was actually how well the black and aluminum case matches the MBP. Looks very nice together.
The pluses to the Dell display, besides the price, compared to the Apple Cinema display, are that it is thinner, adjusts up and down the full length of the stand, so you can have it up pretty high or down close to the table, instead of just tilted, and it also has a VGA connection for a second computer. On the front is a button to switch between inputs---VGA or DVI---so with two computers attached, I can switch between them without changing cables and connections. And, then there is picture-in-picture if you want to see both at the same time (haven't tried it yet though). And, finally the four USB ports, which are very handy since the MBP only has two.

  • Intel iMac 17 inch replacement lcd???

    hello all,
i need a new lcd for my 2006 c2duo imac 17 inch, the lcd is a LM171w02-TL B2 but im have trouble finding one anywhere for a sensible price. Ebay maybe the last option!
Does anyone know if a compatible PC monitor lcd would fit? I know that lost of LG screens don't seem to work...
it seems it may need to be a LM171w01-TL B1 or B2...
    thank you

    hello,
disassembly of the imac is not an issue, i have worked with PCs and macs for years. Ive had the screen out already to get the model number and easily refitted it. its an easy procedure to be honest. As for an external screen, yes im using a 19 inch LCD at the moment via the DVi out but its not something i really wish to do for long.
Your correct about the cost, it seems some Apple resellers think that a 17 inch LCD is some how worth the same as a 24 Inch LCD!
I had hoped that someone could tell me of a compatible screen , HP and Comqac laptops use very similar LCDs and they cost a third on an Apple screen which is made by LG/Philips as is the HP, Compaq type.
    the Apple part is a LM171w02 - TL-B1 / B2
the hp and others use LP171xx - TL-B1/B2 and variants of it..

I bought a 15-inch MacBook a month ago, I would change the MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display in MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display... is possible? and how much will it cost?

Thanks! but there is a problem, I'm Italian and I live near Milan, and certainly I find it hard to send my mac. An Apple Store will not do this type of intervention?

  • Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best

Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best value and price?
Hi, I was wondering if I replace my current standard graphics card for a MacPro Early 2008 for a graphics card for a 40" HDTV, which was is the best for the price and value? My current card when used with such a large monitor/ TV isn't very good, I think? So thinking of updating...

This sounds like a price match question. Without knowing all the details, it sounds like a yes for the Westinghouse, but I would encourage you to read the price match policy link here:

If all you care about is 1080p definition and an HDMI input at a $300 price point then this tv should suit your needs. (As a bonus it has 120Hz refresh for smoother action scenes.)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Westinghouse+-+40%26%2334%3B+Class+-+LCD+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+HDTV/5772998....

  • Using a Mac Pro with a 52 inch Vizio LCD

Hello all. I have hooked up my Mac Pro to my Vizio (52 inch LCD). DVI to RGB (using a converter). My Vizio says it has no signal. I called Vizio they said to call apple. I have not called apple yet on this was wondering if anyone else out there has hooked a Mac Pro to a Vizio with success and if so how they did it. I have the NVIDIA GEForce 7300 card.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey Tom, Thanks for taking the time to respond. I was losing my mind on this one! Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

  • Did any of the 17-inch Studio LCD displays have an S-Video input?

The subject line says it all.
I know that years ago I had an Apple LCD display that had an S-Video input, but I don't remember which model and size it was.
    Thanks for the help.
Macbook, Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I finally got the 17 inch display apart.
I took some pictures while it was apart, and I will put them on my iDisk as soon as I get around to it.
    Here are a few pointers:
    1. The 17 inch display is completely different from the 12 and 15 inch displays. Don't waste your money on any take apart guides for those models. They won't help you; they will only confuse you.
    2. The main source of difficulty in separating the back from the display is that it is held on by these fiendish spring-metal fingers that actually tighten their grip when you attempt to pull the back off.
    3. Don't use metal tools to pry the back off. You will scratch it, bend it, and damage the cables that run just inside where the case opens up.
    4. Wrap the cable ends in tissue and secure with tape to prevent them from scratching the screen while you wrestle with the display.
    5. Start working from the hinged end of the display. The fingers down at this end come loose fairly easily, and the hinge prevents the screen from flexing as you pry the back away, thus preventing the screen from cracking.
    6. Use plastic putty knives , popsicle sticks or tongue depressors to pry the back away from the screen and shim the opening. Slide them along or insert new ones as you go.
    7. As you open up the gap between the aluminum back and the gray plastic trim ring, look inside for the bright metal spring clips. They will be hidden behind tabs projecting from the gray plastic trim ring. Take a small jeweler's screwdriver and carefully pry the edge of the spring clip outward and towards the back. Be careful not to pierce the Airport cable which is strung around the outside of the display very close to these clips.
    8. Once you have release the spring clips from the bottom and both sides of the display, slide the back up and off of the display assembly. Set the back aside and place the display assembly face down on the work table.
    Whew!
You are now ready to proceed with repairs to the display assembly.

  • Has Anyone Used Dell's New 23" SP2309W LCD Flat Panel?

    Good afternoon,
I'm looking to buy a new external monitor for my soon to be purchased MacBook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008) model. I have also asked if anyone had any user info. about an Acer monitor, but no one replied. I'm serious about purchasing this new monitor by Dell, as it's features are quite amazing for its price. However, since it is fairly new there isn't much feedback on it, and I kinda want to know what experiences others have had with it. Thank you.

    Good morning everyone,
I have had the pleasure to use this monitor since I got it on Wednesday, and all I can say is WOW! This monitor is an absolute dream. Setting it up was a real breeze and my MBP recognized it right away without installing the drivers that came with the included disk. The touch sensitive power and menu sensors are awesome and are easy to use. The noise created by touching them annoyed me, but I was able to quickly go into the menu and turn it off. The adjusting features are very effective. I have used this monitor both as a split screen and as my main screen with no issues. I have played movies and games on it, and using the preset screen modes everything looked very good. I also used it to browse the internet and to do some graphic work with no issues. I still need to check out the camera, mic, and audio connections, but like I said before I didn't buy this monitor for those features. The only negative thing I have to say for this amazing monitor right now is that it is really inconvenient that in order to use the supplied USB connections on this monitor you have to connect the monitor to your computer with the supplied USB upstream cable. I will give another update no later than next weekend.

You have only about 10 percent free drive space left. 50gB is enough to run the computer but, if it gets much smaller, that can slow how Virtual Memory (VM) works as the system has to more carefully search the remaining space for qualified blocks to which to write data.
Adding RAM will reduce the writes-to-disk by VM but you should probably consider a little holiday disk cleaning of stuff you no longer use.

  • 40 inch Samsung LCD White Horizontal lines running up the screen constantly

My brand new Samsung 40 inch tv (purchased in mid-December) has white horizontal lines running up the screen constantly.  From what I heard, the electricity in my house my not be grounded, but no other tv in my house does this, so I doubt this is the case.  Has anybody else had this issue and is it too late to return the tv?  Thanks.

Does it do it on other sources like a DVD?  If so you may have a TV problem. Have you tried to do a factory reset or restore? Have you tried plugging it into an outlet in a different part of the house? As a last resort have you tried taking it back to the store and see if it works there? Also have you tried a filter on the AC plud in? Just some suggestions to try and help you out.

  • Insignia 32 inch 1080p LCD NS-32L450A11, computer hook up to tv not working

I hope someone here can help. I purchased this tv over a week ago and just picked up a vga cable to hook up my computer to it. My computer is a HP Pavilion a6300f and was purchased back in 2008. So it only has a DVI and VGA hookup, and I'm using the DVI for my monitor. I followed the directions in the manual to the letter, and made sure that the cables were screwed in tight, and the TV was not detecting the VGA hook up. And I've tried to do some searching for this problem, but no luck so far. If someone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You must use the Function keys on the HP computer to extend the desktop to the TV.  The TV must be on and connected when the computer boots.  Use the appropriate Function key combo to cycle through the various desktop modes...You'll be able to clone your desktop to the TV, extend your desktop to the TV, or make the TV your primary video monitor.

  • Dell Ultrasharp 2707WFP 27" and G5

Hi there, hoping someone can help.
I am interested in the Dell Ultrasharp 2707WFP 27" widescreen LCD monitor but I need to know if it is compatible with my computer (I contacted Dell but they said to try the Apple forums). Here are the specs for my computer: 1.8GHz Power Mac G5, 1GB DDR400 SDRAM, 160GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm, *ATI Radeon 9600 Pro*, operating system is Mac OS 10.3.9.
    Thanks!!

Yes, it'll work just fine. That monitor only needs a single-link DVI port which your ATi Radeon 9600 will have.
The built-in card reader will also work, as long as you plug the monitor's USB plug into your Mac.

  • Sale on Dell UltraSharp U2711 and U3011 Monitors

I noticed while over at the Tom's Hardware site a decent sale on two of the top-of-the-line Dell monitors.  I know this looks like spam but I'm not affiliated with Tom's hardware in any way; I'm just passing on what looks like a decent price, for any of you who might be ready to buy a monitor...
    U2711 - $807
    U3011 - $1196
    Both are with free shipping.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/deals-ultrasharp-lcd-monitor-sale,16180.html
The U3011 is the one I'd get if I had a spare $1196 handy right at this moment.  Maybe I can find a way to scrape enough together in the next day or so...  2560 x 1600 could replace my current dual monitor 3200 x 1200 desktop nicely I think.  If only there was something actually wrong with these old Dell U2001FPs...  Where's my coffee cup...
Here are some pretty good in-depth reviews on these monitors:

It's just 100 ppi on the 30 incher, Trevor.  That's the beauty of it being so big.  As it turns out the dual 20 inchers I'm running now are 100ppi, and I find it to be a very sweet resolution (not that I wouldn't like 200 ppi).
I suppose that's a possible downside to getting one of these monitors now...  It could end up that right around the corner are super high resolution monitors that would make one regret purchasing "old tech".
I got to thinking about video cards yesterday evening, and I almost worked myself up to pulling the trigger on the U3011 plus a new VisionTek ATI Radeon 7850 (2 GB) with 3x the performance of my current video card.
I'm quite used to my 3200 x 1200 desktop, so changing to a 2560 x 1600 desktop might be just a bit of a challenge...  When not doing Photoshop I often tend to put reference materials on one monitor while actively working on the other.  Of course, I could retain one or both of these perfectly functional 20" monitors turned up sideways as "ears" on both sides and just add the 30" unit in the center...  THAT would be an amazing desktop!
Lundberg, I appreciate your skepticism, but the Dell U3011 to me right now represents the most attractive offering out there.

  • Streaming video from Macbook Pro to 46 inch LCD

I am trying to stream video from my 13 inch Macbook Pro to my 46 inch Samsung LCD TV. I am using a HDMI cable to a DVI cable to attach the computer. When I play videos from iTunes, the picture looks great, however when I am streaming video from an internet site such as Netflix, the picture is not great (it almost looks pixilated). I am wondering, is this an issue with my computer (video card, etc) or does it have to do with my internet connection (I currently have the lower DSL connection)? Is there any other way to make the picture look better? Thanks for your help.

Yes, forget streaming that way, .....the ANSWER youre looking for is the APP BEAMER
you cannot stream youtube, rather ON COMPUTER video and movie files.
    free trial to test it
